Welcome to our weekly round-up of forthcoming releases. Jo and I are off on our annual trip to Leipzig for WGT tomorrow. We will be trying to answer as many emails as possible and place orders with suppliers whilst we’re away, but inevitably there will be some delays. Please bear with us, we need a holiday too (and to meet suppliers, etc.). Many thanks.

RAMMSTEIN kick off this week with “Haifisch”, the third single from acclaimed sixth studio album “Liebe Ist für Alle Da” – a record that has topped the charts all over the world – and follow-up to the much talked about “Pussy” and “Ich Tu Dir Weh” singles and videos. It’s available in three luxurious formats.

By releasing this exclusive picture vinyl edition of NITZER EBB’s latest album “Industrial Complex”, BLACK RAIN continue their successful vinyl series. This special edition includes an exclusive remix by FEINDFLUG of “Once You Say”, featuring the backing vocals from MARTIN GORE! Strictly limited to 500 numbered copies, and we have been allocated very few, first come first served!!!

“Breakthrough” is a single taken from MARSHEAUX’s latest album “Lumineux Noir”. Featuring eight remixes plus the unavailable elsewhere “How Does It Feel?”. This collector’s edition is strictly limited to just 300 copies. Previously only available through UNDO RECORDS or the official MARSHEAUX Forum.

UBERBYTE’s third album “EXS” stands as a defiantly different, brutal beast of a record. Far heavier than their prior work and possessed of a supercharged attitude that propels their music into unexpected realms of twisted weirdness and aggression.

Synth pioneer and former ULTRAVOX singer JOHN FOXX marks the 30th anniversary of the release of his solo debut “Metamatic” with a new 2CD+DVD retrospective called “Metatronic”, focusing on the darker, electro material from his solo career and featuring 21 singles, remixes and other cuts chosen by Foxx himself.

“Varieté” is MARC ALMOND’s first studio album of original self-written material for 10 years! The limited edition of the album comes with a bonus acoustic CD of all-new compositions from the “Varieté” sessions.

Recorded in Hamburg as part of SCOOTER’s “Under the Radar Over the Top” tour in March 2010, “Live in Hamburg” is available as both CD and DVD.

“Alive” is the brand new single from GOLDFRAPP, available as a strictly limited shaped picture disc and includes a remix from JOAKIM.

“Conscriptvm” is a double CD of rare, new and unreleased material from German legends VON THRONSTAHL! The sounds range from orchestral, industrial, neofolk, military pop and and martial rock.

The second unholy union of Lord NORDVARGR and GOAT (GOATVARGR) is “Black Snow Epoch”. Industrial loops and analogue keyboards merge with sheet metal and chains to create a solemn winter hymn where the cold steel stings your flesh.

“Immortel”, DERNIÈRE VOLONTÉ’s fifth studio album, has been four years in the making and marks their fifteenth anniversary as a band. It is a huge development from the former style which redefines the term ‘military pop’ to a more homogeneous, less neo-classical, but much more modern sound. More electronic but organic at the same time, the new album re-invents this style of music.

TENHORNEDBEAST’s third album for COLD SPRING, “Hunts and Wars”, was recorded over a three year period from 2006 to 2009. This album introduces subtle changes to the established sound with shorter, delicate interludes separating longer tracks that range with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism.

Only a few months after the band’s creation in 2005, JOY/DISASTER released their first self-titled demo, which immediately received very good feedback. Now they are back, even more melodic and powerful than ever! “StäyGätôW” mixes 80s post-punk and modern indie rock in a way that brings to mind musical references such as EDITORS, INTERPOL, PLACEBO and THE CURE.

Gothenburg based duo KOPFER KAT are without a doubt the hardest release PROGRESS PRODUCTIONS has ever unleashed. Their music can be described as noise-driven club music, similar to early SONAR, WINTERKÄLTE, IMMINENT STARVATION, MANUFACTURA, ASCHE and TERRORFAKT. One of the hardest, most straight forward, no bullshit rhythmical noise albums in a loooooong time!

In DUAL DENSITY, the German electropop label CONZOOM RECORDS have discovered a great new band. The Swedish trio do fresh and very melodic electropop. Every song of their debut “Soul Ecstasy” is a hit!

RHOMBUS are regarded as one of the finest goth rock bands to emerge from England in many years. Mixing male and female vocals with swirling guitars and driving bass, they combine some of the best elements of traditional 80s/90s UK goth with their own, more modern, distinctive approach. The latest album “Open the Sky” takes the band to a new level.

“Transmission – 30 Years with(out) Ian Curtis” is a great compilation of songs, many of them specially recorded for this the third volume in Infrastition’s “Transmission” series. Entirely dedicated to Ian Curtis, legendary leader and singer of JOY DIVISION, who passed away 30 years ago. Whilst “Transmission Nederlands” is a similar Dutch compilation.

The brand new “Electropop” compilation (number four in the series) again features thirteen previously unreleased tracks in wonderful extended versions. A must for anyone who is interested in fresh synthpop and electropop sounds.

We’re very pleased to announce that we will now be selling tickets for The Corporation in Sheffield; the best place for us northerners to see bands in England. Upcoming gigs include FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY and FEAR FACTORY.

Rammstein Haifisch £5.00
Review
Third single from RAMMSTEIN’s acclaimed sixth studio album “Liebe Ist für Alle Da” – a record that has topped the charts all over the world – and follow-up to the much talked about “Pussy” and “Ich Tu Dir Weh” singles and videos.

Since starting out 15 years ago, RAMMSTEIN have built up a reputation as a controversial, no-compromise, hugely successful and entertaining outfit, with a fiercely loyal and genuinely international following. Today, they stand head and shoulders above the competition as the greatest (musical) showmen on earth, with an incendiary stage performance that generally results in tickets for their concerts selling out in minutes.

In keeping with the RAMMSTEIN tradition of delivering top quality, value-for-money packages, the CD single will be a digipak housing an exclusive selection of bonus mixes.

Nitzer Ebb Industrial Complex £15.75
Review
By releasing this exclusive picture vinyl edition of NITZER EBB’s latest album “Industrial Complex”, Black Rain continue their successful vinyl series, in which there are some great and well-known predecessors to this release, like WELLE ERDBALL, FEINDFLUG, DIE PERLEN and more.

When Douglas McCarthy and Bon Harris formed a band in 1982 and started to record their first demos, they didn’t yet know that they were writing music history. Their sound was raw and unpolished, an electronic adaptation of the dying punk movement. With minimal funding, drums, a sequencer and McCarthy’s penetrating voice, they quickly came to stand as a synonym for a significant new musical genre: Electronic Body Music (or EBM for short). Through seminal albums such as “That Total Age”, “Belief” and “Ebbhead”, they continued to beat their own unique path, until they parted company after ten years.

However, this was not the end and recent reunion shows have proven that there is life still in the old ghost. As brilliant and relevant today as ever, they are now back with a brand new studio album, “Industrial Complex”. Opening with a rousing bassline, reminiscent of the wonderful “Murderous”, the opening track “Promises” sets the tone. McCarthy’s voice varies from offensive to fragile, with an arrangement rich in detail, edginess and energy. This album is like a bridge back in time to the 80s. Without doubt, this is the work of NITZER EBB, with the same level of complexity that characterises all their work, traversing the years to create a new modern sound for the present.

This special edition includes an exclusive remix by FEINDFLUG of the NITZER EBB track “Once You Say”, featuring the backing vocals from Martin Gore! Strictly limited to 500 numbered copies.

Uberbyte EXS £12.00
Review
Nothing exceeds like EXS. Or so Brit-Industrial mavericks UBERBYTE would insist.

Their third album stands as a defiantly different, brutal beast of a record. Far heavier than their prior work and possessed of a supercharged attitude that propels their music into unexpected realms of twisted weirdness and aggression. Without a doubt one of the most controversial and devisive records of 2010.

Citing punk ethics, powernoise aggression and electro grooves, UBERBYTE have gone out their way to create an unpredictable collection of material that swaggers between the tongue-in-cheek and rip-snorting psychosis. Raw and personal, and unwilling to play by any rule book, be prepared for a release that will pummel the listener into submission through a vicious streak unlike any other.

There’s never quite been a record like it. Economic and imaginative by turn, this is uneasy listening of the most disturbing kind. Powered by one of the scene’s most deranged imaginations and leaking bitterness, rage and insanity, “EXS” is here. Prepare to feel the pain.

John Foxx Metatronic £18.00
Review
Synth pioneer and former ULTRAVOX singer JOHN FOXX marks the 30th anniversary of the release of his solo debut “Metamatic” with a new 2CD+DVD retrospective called “Metatronic” – as well as a special ‘analog’ concert in London next month with guest DJ Gary Numan.

“Metatronic” focuses on the darker, electro material from his 30-year solo career and features 21 singles, remixes and other cuts chosen by Foxx himself – including “No-One Driving”, “This City”, “Burning Car” and a new mix of his first single, “Underpass”, by MARK REEDER – as well as eight live tracks recorded in Sydney in 2008 and a DVD containing seven promo videos.

On June 5 at London’s Roundhouse, Foxx will headline and curate the electronic music festival Short Circuit 2010. Following a DJ set by Numan and co-producer Ade Fenton, Foxx and ‘a one-off group of special guests’ are billed to perform ‘a unique analog synthesizer show’, playing the Moogs, ARPs and drum machines Foxx used on 1980’s Metamatic. Foxx’s set is expected to include cuts from “Metamatic” as well as early ULTRAVOX songs, plus some of the musician’s current work, including a brand new collaboration with LEFTFIELD’s Paul Daley and songs from this autumn’s JOHN FOXX & THE MATHS debut album, an all-analog project with London musician Benge.

Goatvargr Black Snow Epoch £13.50
Review
The second unholy union of Lord NORDVARGR (MZ.412, FOLKSTORM, TOROIDH, etc.) and GOAT (USA).

Time, pilgrimages and bloodlines have been born since the first testament of GOATVARGR was witnessed in this era of false knowledge. The first covenant of GOATVARGR was baleful, lycanthropic and lethiferous. A rejection of the techgnostic kingdom and circuitry idols which seduce our era. The downfall of light has brought a world of coldness. This “Black Snow Epoch” is a time to honour our forbearers such as MZ.412 and the elements of flesh, wood and alchemical steel.

Industrial loops and analogue keyboards merge with sheet metal and chains to create a solemn winter hymn where the cold steel stings your flesh. The wolf instinctively hunts through the frost, and the goat is blamed for human transgressions, yet during the “Black Snow Epoch”, the true hunters will pursue.

Derniere Volonte Immortel £15.75
Review
“Immortel”, DERNIÈRE VOLONTÉ’s fifth studio album has been four years in the making and marks their fifteenth anniversary as a band.

It is a huge development from the former style which redefines the term ‘military pop’ to a more homogeneous, less neo-classical but much more modern sound. More electronic but organic at the same time, the new album re-invents this style of music, which has been a huge influence on Geoffroy D since his early days. The themes on “Immortel” are affected by Geffroy’s books, movies and personal experiences, but also reflect in general his personal feelings about beloved people and their spirits – that which is, and always will be, present in our souls and memories.

“Immortel” is another milestone in the ouevre of one of France’s most interesting bands from the underground scene and will certainly attract fans from the early days as well as appealing to a lot of new fans from other musical scenes.

TenHornedBeast Hunts and Wars £13.50
Review
TENHORNEDBEAST’s third album for Cold Spring was recorded over a three year period from 2006 to 2009. This album introduces subtle changes to the established TENHORNEDBEAST sound with shorter, delicate interludes separating longer tracks that rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism. The use of leaden, sub-tuned bass guitar creates rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire.

Heavily influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany, “Hunts and Wars” seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these writers and is presented in a lavish digipak designed by noted American graphic designer Kevin Yuen, to its full grotesque glory. The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise, monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest steps as we are swept on to the eternal “Hunts and Wars”.

Joy/Disaster StäyGätôW £14.50
Review
Only a few months after the band’s creation in 2005, JOY/DISASTER released their first self-titled demo, which immediately received very good feedback from promoters, radio stations and web/magazines all around the world. From the very beginning, this band has been incessantly touring all over Europe, summing over one hundred gigs at various clubs and music festivals, and gig after gig they became well known for the quality of their music and their live performances full of punk energy and rock’n’roll attitude. Their first full album was released in 2006 and the equally successful “Paranoïa” in 2007, and now they are back, even more melodic and powerful than ever! “StäyGätôW” mixes 80s post-punk and modern indie rock in a way that brings to mind musical references such as EDITORS, INTERPOL, PLACEBO and THE CURE and is sure to be every bit as successful as its predecessors.

Kopfer Kat Skrammelpop £12.75
Review
Gothenburg based duo KOPFER KAT (Michael Andresen and Jimmy Andersson) are without a doubt the hardest release Progress Productions has ever unleashed. Many people will most likely know them from the well known label compilations “Born/Evolve/Progress”. Even though KOPFER KAT were actually one of the first bands to be signed to Progress, the debut album has taken a long long time to be produced and recorded, as these guys do not compromise over the quality of their material! But finally it now sees the light of day.

KOPFER KAT’s music can be described as noise-driven club music that truly hits you like a fist straight in the face. The uncompromising driving beats and rhythms will knock you for six. Fans of early SONAR, WINTERKÄLTE, IMMINENT STARVATION, MANUFACTURA, ASCHE, TERRORFAKT and similar acts will have the feast of their lives… One of the hardest, most straight forward, no bullshit rhythmical noise albums in a loooooong time!

Rhombus Open the Sky £10.00
Review
RHOMBUS are regarded as one of the finest goth rock bands to emerge from England in many years. Mixing male and female vocals with swirling guitars and driving bass, they combine some of the best elements of traditional 80s/90s UK goth with their own, more modern, distinctive approach. The songs are well crafted and catchy, possessing both depth and a sharp sense of humour.

The latest album “Open the Sky” takes the band to a new level. Now with a settled line-up bringing an additional songwriter to the group, this album was written and produced by all four members together over last year. Each of the four brings a myriad of different styles to the melting pot with plenty of light and shade, poignancy, power and passion. The production is the best RHOMBUS have delivered so far, thanks in no small part to Stephen Carey (THE EDEN HOUSE) coming on board to handle the mixing duties.

Rhombus play Goth Rock and are proud to do so. “Open the Sky” is definitely set to be one of the most exciting releases of 2010.

Various Artists Transmission – 30 Years with(out) Ian Curtis £14.50
Review
A great compilation of songs, many of them specially recorded for this the third volume in Infrastition’s “Transmission” series.

The third volume is entirely dedicated to Ian Kevin Curtis, legendary leader and singer of JOY DIVISION, who passed away 30 years ago. These eighteen recordings the result of deep devotion from the participating artists to the work and life of a singer who died at far too young an age and who left a lasting hole in the music scene.

“Transmission” 3 is a sort of ‘French incarnation’ of this deep devotion to a musician and to a band who have influenced the dark and electronic music scenes for over 30 years. Many big names from the French alternative scene contributed and the tracklist reads like a “who’s who” of the French coldwave scene of the 80s and 90s!

Various Artists Transmission Nederlands £14.50
Review
The Netherlands, Holland to some (though incorrectly – Holland is just a part of The Netherlands), the lowlands by the North Sea. Clogs, windmills, tulips, dikes and (semi-)legal soft drugs. And in the 80s, mass unemployment, a strong anti-nuke campaign and squatting: the perfect, solid basis for making your own music. No pressure for time or money. As the Dutch writer Martin Bril once noted: “in the 80s we were all on the dole, bought a record, made cassettes of it for all our friends and did a nice hand coloured cover around it” – which is perhaps a happier remembrance of the 80s than something grey and dull.

If there is anything that connects the musicians on this collection, it’s this shared background. The ‘do-it-yourself’ ethic, an aesthetic of (post-)punk which runs through all of this, and not just in regard to music, but also in organising your own fun. NEXDA with their cassette shop and stage Studio 12 in Haarlem, or YOUNG LIONS’ Harold Schellinx with Wally van Middendorp of MINNY POPS and their “Ultra” series.

After twenty-five years hardly anyone on this compilation creates music like this; everybody went on to pursue other interests, inside or outside music. But then lots of these musicians started in a completely different place too: THE VISITOR were once a folk band, members of MEKANIK KOMMANDO played jazz rock, while members of NEXDA were busking in France (and after NEXDA went back to just doing that).

Following mass unemployment and nuclear threat, we all went on to get a job, a house and shares. But it’s hardly a surprise that this compilation arrives at the lowest economic ebb since… well, the 80s. It’s the paradox of the new economy, the job, the house and the shares. This is hardly a movement as such, hardly cold wave, but mere garage music (rather than the home tapers in their bedrooms), side-stepping pop music. Cold wave? It’s no longer the 80s, it’s 2010. The coldest winter in years, still a cold Dutch wave.

Machinefabriek Daas £13.50
Review
The tracks on “Daas” have been carefully picked to form a provoking, haunting journey. What they all have in comon is a sense of nostalgic graininess. As with the music of PHILIP JECK, THE CARETAKER and WILLIAM BASINSKI, these tracks are full of degrading melodies and dusty ambience.

“Daas” is the previously unreleased opening track of the album, and feautures contributions by the great RICHARD SKELTON. This track was made as a reaction to the piece “Koploop”. “Flotter”, “Koploop” and “Grom” were previously available on small run self-released 3″ CDRs. Sold out for some time now, these tracks deserved a wider audience. They seem to have come from the same galaxy, making perfect sense when put together. “Onkruid” was a track previously released on “A Room Forever”, as an expensive and extremely limited 12″ boxset – also now brought to a wider audience.

Packaged in a four-panel matt digipak.

Fire In The Head Confessions of a Narcissist £13.50
Review
Quite possibly the final release for this tumultuous force in U.S. power electronics. This release features artwork created specifically for the disc by Nick Blinko (RUDIMENTARY PENI). F/I/T/H was conceived as a cathartic outlet to explore and ratify the delusions and social perversions resultant of psychosis and the darker side of man’s conflicted dual nature. Guest artists include Nick Blinko (RUDIMENTARY PENI) on vocals and J. Randall (AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED) on additional electronics.

Taste of Decay 1984-1986 £14.50
Review
The Mannequin and Infrastition labels are always searching for forgotten and truly awesome gems from the 80s underground. Here, they introduce this great post punk band, based in Harrislee (Germany) which was in existance from June 1984 until August 1986 – splitting after a few live appearances in Flensburg and Kiel. TASTE OF DECAY recorded two Tapes, but their most important publication was “The Calling”, a self-produced 7″ EP with five tracks, nowdays nearly impossible to find. This CD is a re-issue of that EP from 1986, plus their first demo tape from 1984.

NOW AVAILABLE
Rome Nos Chants Perdus £16.75
Review
Over a series of remarkable concept albums, the Luxembourgish band ROME have developed a totally unique ‘poetry of longing’ which rings out from a dark melancholic mist of rootlessness and which gives expression to a comprehensive feeling of modern forlornness.

The protagonists of ROME’s music are the unintentional ‘rebels’ of Camus (“The Rebel”; original title “L’Homme Révolté”), contemporaries from the turbulent epochs of the 20th century: the banished and the hunted; the despised and the misunderstood – always enemies of dictatorship. This is what the songs of Jerome Reuter are about, firmly in the tradition of his declared heroes JACQUES BREL and LÉO FERRÉ, (on earlier albums also TOM WAITS and NICK CAVE). As regards content, ROME are inspired by world literature and the observant listener will be able to detect references to and quotations from Albert Camus, Marcel Proust, Jean-Paul Satre and Jean Genet serving to create a new kind of intertextuality between word and sound.

Following on from their EP “L’Assassin” ROME assiduously develop their sound further on the minimalistic, simple singer-songwriter album “Nos Chants Perdus”, slowly leaving the apocalyptic realms behind them. Catchy melodies, which exude the timeless atmosphere of the metropolis on the Seine, impress themselves on the memory. The sonorous voice bears the weltschmerz as well as the yearning for freedom and peace. Despite the French songtitles the lyrics are primarily performed in English, while the music is constructed primarily with acoustic instruments: piano, guitar, touches of strings, accordion. The band have largely relinquished electronic elements, which marks this album out as a further stride in the work of this act.

“Nos Chants Perdus” by ROME is an exceptional and valuable example of the art of singer-songwriting, the likes of which hasn’t been heard in this concentration and with such gravity for a long time.

The strictly limited first edition comes as a CD in digibook format – a hardcover book bound in linen with special black hotfoil debossing, a 40-page additional booklet, plus a semi-matte art print on high-quality paper and with elaborate “Singer” thread stitching. Includes all lyrics and photographs by Achim Webel.

Eldar Amaterasu Shiroi £14.75
Review
All work that appears on this album has been re-recorded and re-mastered from early demo recordings from 2007/2008, originally entitled “Ama Terasu” and “Solve et Coagula” and both long sold out. ELDAR re-recorded almost all the instruments and voices that make up the album, and in addition, various features and sounds/samples of songs have been re-composed, with exclusive extra tracks added. The result is a completely new album by this band that is now signed to Cold Meat Industry. This album is based on the relation of philosophy and society and is dedicated to all those who have fought and are still fighting for the idea that philosophy is a social ideal and the only way for humanity to evolve. We pray to the deity Amaterasu to make this possible.

A must for fans of TRIARII, TORIODH, A CHALLENGE OF HONOUR, and STALHWERK 9 – quite simply the finest of industrial martial/dark ambient music.

The Lovecrave Soul Saliva £13.25
Review
The story of THE LOVECRAVE was born amongst the metropolitan ashes of the big city, Milan, united with the ancient and silent atmosphere of Venice. What THE LOVECRAVE were looking for during the recordings was a rough, elegant and new sound, but at the same time taking inspiration from a wide range of artists from IRON MAIDEN to the eighties sound of DEPECHE MODE, curing every detail but trying to leave that instinctive and rough edge untouched. They created in their minds a sort of Blade Runner-like world and tried to put music into it. All this can be found on their 2006 debut “The Angel and the Rain”, which was an instant success with fans and media alike and for which the band was awarded “Best Italian Band” on International Ground at the MEI (Independent labels meeting in Italy). Since the release of that alubm, THE LOVECRAVE have toured in Germany with Canadian labelmates THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE, played as headliners at the famous Camden Underworld in London, recorded four acoustic tracks for Total Rock Radio in London, played as headliners at the Alcatraz, the biggest club in Milan, building up a very solid fan base.

Now, four years later, THE LOVECRAVE are ready for the burst with their new songs and more tours and festivals planned for 2010 and 2011. Yes, THE LOVECRAVE are back, with a brand new album, “Soul Saliva”, a masterpiece of original modern rock with great personality and awesome songwriting. After three years of hard work on the production the band is ready to take a higher flight with their original bursting sound, which has become much more compact, powerful and mature through the years, thanks to the tours, the festivals and the friendship that binds the musicians together in a very solid way.

With “Soul Saliva”, THE LOVECRAVE will show that no other band sounds like them and will bring you into their world like a hurricane! Get ready to bleed with rough hard rock riffs and get ready to cry with magical sounds hanging from the sky – all of this is “Soul Saliva”…! Deep, modern, angry… and rock! A real must-have for your CD collection and for your heart.

Decoded Feedback Aftermath £12.50
Review
During the past five years DECODED FEEDBACK have gone through the most difficult time in their history. After release of their last album release “Combustion” on Out of Line in 2005, the Canadian duo had to venture forth along a twisted alley full of private setbacks. But as is often the case, personal crises can trigger the strongest creative energies.

Crackling with such renewed powers, DECODED FEEDBACK now unleash “Aftermath”, an utterly remarkable and intense album. We stand in awe of their unmistakable combination of pulsating basslines and angelic synth melodies (as witnessed on “Silent Killer” and “Proteus Syndrome”), as well as nostalgic references to the old school dark wave of the 80s (“Dark Reflections”, “Shelter Me”), and sprinkling of electropop (“Affliction”). Full-bodied and varied, “Aftermath” stands between feelings and moods with unexpected sonic landscapes. Never before could it be said that DECODED FEEDBACK have been this melodically oriented as they are now in 2010. Even in this project’s 17th year of existence, there is no lack of innovation or variation. It should also now be obvious to everyone that this project are at the top league in sound engineering, as is the case with most ensembles from the Canadian electronic scene.

Faithful fans will be delighted to hear on “Aftermath” exactly what they expected to find on DECODED FEEDBACK’s latest album and will undoubtedly also be won over by its enriching new influences. This release is also certain to gain the admiration and accolade of new listeners unfamiliar with the band, and in so doing, will bolster their popularity by several more orders of magnitude.

Rummelsnuff Sender Karlshorst £13.75
Review
Berlin-based muscle man Roger Baptist is RUMMELSNUFF, a combination of testosterone-laden body building aesthetics, brute maritime romanticism and comic-book hero; a strange, yet fascinating icon who spawns a steadily-growing fan base and has generated quite some buzz in the press.

Two years after releasing his debut album, the captain is on the air again with fifteen songs of even greater stylistic and instrumental variety than on his first outing. Be it the sad but beautiful shanty “Salzig Schmeckt der Wind”, the synthetic rockabilly sound of “Donnerbolzen” or the rough electronic culture of songs like “Eindruck schinden”, “Pumper” and “Winterlied”, Baptist is happily ignoring all standard genre boundaries while sporting a thoroughly identifiable and unique sound.

Basing his music on a minimal electro foundation that he effectively garnishes with all sorts of sonic experiments, a healthy dose of weirdness and his trademark hoarse voice, RUMMELSNUFF is one of the most unique acts in German-language popular music. The pre-album release digital single “Freier Fall”, for instance, sounds as if MAX SCHMELING, TOM WAITS, DER PLAN and RAMMSTEIN have come together to record a collaborative song. “Sender Karlshorst” will be broadcasting its raw “Strom-Musik” on all frequencies from May 14!

Axodry Feel It Right £8.75
Review
AXODRY is one of the well known names when it comes to electropop made in Germany. Produced in the studio of Axel Henninger (CAMOUFLAGE, MOSKWA TV, DE/VISION and more) AXODRY was the brainchild of Ralf Henrich aka RA/HEN – well known for other musical projects such as TWO OF CHINA, MOSKWA TV, ROBOTIKO REJEKTO, MICRO CHIP LEAGUE, WHIPSPERING COLORS and many more. Definitely one of the main forces on the German scene, based at the legendary Westside label. Geomatic 64 Light Years Away £12.00
Review
The second-coming of this Dutch project after their well-received CD “Blue Beam” on the French label M-Tronic.

Here, GEOMATIC continue to evolve their sound into a slow-burning, beat-driven, and atmospheric display of futuristic complexity and epic sound architectures. “64 Light Years Away” presents a vast aural journey through a cerebral universe, melding industrial-like rhythms with enormous atmospheres and tribal beatwork.

One for the headphones, “64 Light Years Away” is a truly awesome jaunt into the fantastic realm of post-Industrial soundscapes. A filthy, complex, and gripping listen all around to say the least. For fans of FLINT GLASS, ZENTRIERT INS ANTLITZ, EX_TENSION, TOTAKEKE and MLADA FRONTA.

Sweet William Brighter Than the Sun £14.50
Review
After a long hiatus of twelve years without any official new releases, German cult band SWEET WILLIAM (known for acclaimed releases on Hyperium and Dion Fortune) strike back with a splendid new CD! It is packed with 68 minutes of all-new material, in the form of fourteen tracks of dark electronic rock music combined with typical SWEET WILLIAM psychedelic elements that take you on a journey through the depths of the human emotional condition.

The music changes from track to track – telling stories of lost souls and stories of hope, followed by songs that let the world shine again by creating warm and shimmering atmospheres. Electronic elements, loops combined with real drums, guitars, driving bass lines, strings, pianos and the characteristic vocals come together to form to a musical experience that is hard to find these days. You’ll hear slow, smooth pieces spilling over into fast electronic numbers, tracks of longer than six minutes as well as pop-art songs of just three and half. The new SWEET WILLIAM album “Brighter Than the Sun” shows the many faces of this band, the ability to surprise the listener with new elements while never leaving the typical sound that they’ve forged during their long existence. Don’t miss this great and surprising come-back!

Blackhouse 25 Years Anniversary + Hope… £18.75
Review
BLACKHOUSE are an oddity on the industrial scene, because their music features Christian themes and lyrics. The duo of Ivo Cutler and Sterling Cross come from the heart of Mormon country, Salt Lake City, and have baffled the scene since they began opposing the libertine power electronics of WHITEHOUSE with their Bible-obsessed messages. Unlike bland Christian pop, BLACKHOUSE preach the good word over the wicked sounds of raw beats and harsh electronix. They see no contradiction in their art, because as they say: “There is no war more holy than the fight for peace.”

In order to celebrate the 25th birthday of this legendary American act, M-tronic is proud to release a double CD including the classic slab of industrial vinyl from 1984 “Hope…” re-born into a new dimension 25 years later, as well as a full NEW “25 Years” CD, including new and unreleased tracks, speeches by Brian Ladd himself, collaborations and remixes by BRUME, LE SYNDICAT, HYPNOSKULL, PBK, ORPHX, PACIFIC 231 and more, plus some special surprises… The “25 Years” album was produced by Patrick Stevens of HYPNOSKULL.

TWO compact discs: ONE vision. This is a MUST HAVE for every industrial collection, and is stricly limited to just 500 copies in a 3-panel digipak in special matte varnish paper.

Premature Ejaculation A Little Hard to Swallow £15.75
Review
Third release from “Rozz Williams – The Lost Recordings” project.

“A Little Hard to Swallow” ends ROZZ WILLIAMS’ initial foray into experimenal music. Made in 1982, Rozz returned to some of the sounds and live recordings included in the earlier PREMATURE EJACULATION works and edited them in with many new recordings and samples. He had become more confident in his abilities and as a result “A Little Hard to Swallow” is much more structured than its predecessors and can be considered the first truly classic PE recording.

The album consists of a long sequence of untitled tracks spread over two sides. Since the original cassette recording featured few, if any, distinguishable track breaks it was felt important not to arbitarily separate each single piece of music for the CD release. Rozz had obviously intended for the music to be enjoyed as a continous listening experience rather than for each piece to be listened to in isolation. This would not be the last time that Rozz used such tactics. “A Little Hard to Swallow” also incorporates the use of samples and there are some vocalisations and spoken word sequences as well as live jam recordings.

The original cassette sleeve for “A Little Hard to Swallow” still survives and is in the possession of Ron Marrs. It features a black and white image and above it are the words ‘A brain operation, showing a bone drill boring through the skull’. In addition, Rozz superimposed an image of an eye to complete the artwork. The design of the artwork for this release has been kept as faithful to the original as possible.

Premature Ejaculation Living Monstrosities/Descent £15.75
Review
Fourth release from “Rozz Williams – The Lost Recordings” project.

ROZZ WILLIAMS returned to his interest in creating experimenal music in 1985, following his departure from CHRISTIAN DEATH. He had met Chuck Collison the previous winter and the pair immediately made plans to work together under the moniker “The Happiest Place on Earth”. “Living Monstrosities/Descent” would appear to be one of the first recordings Rozz made at this time as it is said to date from 1985. The listener will instantly be aware how the music has matured since the first recordings in 1981 and 1982. Rozz would have learned much during his time spent at recording studios with CHRISTIAN DEATH, working with such renowned producers as Thom Wilson and Eric Westfall. These are very complex, structured pieces and both are previously unreleased in this full, unedited form.

The recording consisted of two separate pieces of music on each side of the cassette. “Living Monstrosities” makes use of various repeated sound effects which gradually builds into a crescendo, and a repeated vocal sample of ‘the most astounding living monstrosity of all time’. “Descent” is a purely instrumental recording, which again relies on repeated sound effects forming a very dark, menacing composition.

The original cassette sleeve for “Living Monstrosities/Descent” still survives and is in the possession of John Collins. The sleeve features a black and white image of a screaming child being held down by an unidentified adult, presumably a doctor or physician of some kind. The original cassette artwork is quite dramatic, and the only change made for this release was to rotate the image 90 degrees in an anticlockwise direction so that the child’s face is the correct way up.

Dark Orange Clouds, Paperships and Fallen Angels £13.00
Review
After amazing new albums from ARCANA and PETER BJARGÖ on Kalinkaland, the label has another surprise in store, with the unexpected return of a legendary heavenly voices act from the 90s: DARK ORANGE!

DARK ORANGE began alongside bands like STOA, LOVE IS COLDER THAN DEATH and CHANDEEN, one of the first heavenly voices spearheads of the cult label Hyperium. With their former albums, the band toured all over Germany as support for AND ALSO THE TREES, PINK TURNS BLUE and LOVE LIKE BLOOD and were able to develop a significant fan base. Much time has passed since then, but DARK ORANGE never really let us go. And it seems that singer Katrin Elna, bandleader Dirk Odu and sound designer Olivier Goyet have just popped up to the attic to retrieve their hidden song diamonds – a sparkling and fresh sound with amazing new songs. Also participating as guest musicians are Steven Burrows and Emer Brizzolara from AND ALSO THE TREES and the final gemstone sound for the new album “Clouds, Paperships and Fallen Angels” was done by Robin Guthrie of the COCTEAU TWINS.

DARK ORANGE have never been this irresistible and sensual before. This is an album full of fascinating sound paintings, limitless spherical walls of guitars and bittersweet vocals. It is exactly this kind of music that remains immortal, which appeals to the romantic side in us and, beneath all stories of pain and melancholy, shows us the brightly lit glimmer of hope.

Iberian Spleen Dracula Vampire Hunters Club Versions £10.50
Review
Club versions of one of the soundtracks from Francis Ford Coppola’s film “Dracula (Vampire Hunters)” produced and created by IBERIAN SPLEEN – a well known electro-EBM project from Spain, who have previously released an album and two singles on Memento Materia. IBERIAN SPLEEN reached the top ten of German DAC with the single “I’m So Afraid”, and now return after some years of absence with an original idea: making versions not of songs but of the soundtrack to a film, merging classical music with intelligent and very personal electronic music. These versions not only recall parts of the original track but they also try to keep the full essence and great composition of the master Wojciech Kilar. All the classical arrangements have been newly performed without using samples from the original soundtrack. Powerful versions that invite us all to sweet dreams: LOVE NEVER DIES!

Tying Tiffany Peoples Temple £13.75
Review
Exceptional musician, prestigious supermodel, revolutionary DJ, actress, venerated muse of countless artists… there is practically no end to the list of achievements of the Italian icon TYING TIFFANY. Right in the middle of provocative catwalk appearances for Diesel and similar designers, riotous live performances and the glamorous world of uncounted magazine covers, the posh artist has created her own unique and dazzling universe which she is about to expand even further with her new album “Peoples Temple”.

Nothing less than the resurrection of traditional goth music from the perspective of today’s decadent lifestyle lurks within TYING TIFFANY, a hot-blooded artist who is ignorant to attributes like ‘half-heartedness’ and lives out her urge of musical fulfillment as convincingly as very few artists before her. When TYING TIFFANY enters the scene with her musical visions, British goth godmother SIOUXSIE SIOUX comes to ones mind as inevitably as THE VELVET UNDERGROUND femme fatale Nico or Andy Warhol’s muse Edie Sedwick. The legendary spirit of early JOY DIVISION, paired with a boundless devotion to the melancholic monotony found in BAUHAUS and a powerful influence of rushing electroclash frame the ring in which the Italian gothic queen runs riot like a possessed sex symbol and in which she unleashes an energy painfully missed in most other contemporary female solo artists.

Be aware, though: there is a monstrously creative beast hiding behind those endless legs and the coquettishly twinkling eyes, a snarling fury which couldn’t be further away from high society’s expressionless girlies and which really has something to say. Tracks like the erupting “One Breath” or the biting opener “3 Circle” show TYING TIFFANY delivering a vocal tour de force that effortlessly competes with EMILIE AUTUMN in terms of intensity and charisma. The Victorian goth violinist and the dark-haired beauty TYING TIFFANY also share a dominant urge to self-fulfilment as well as an inborn sense for perfectionism that turns “Peoples Temple” into a modern goth manifest not to be missed, a release that creates something furiously original out of past day braveries and the possibilities of our modern world.

True to the roots of the genre, the irresistible goth vamp delivers a lesson in punkish attitude, revolutionary gusto and a lot of electronic reinforcement, strengthening her reputation as a truly exceptional artist of our time – as a legitimate SIOUXSIE SIOUX descendant and long-legged muse combined in one person whose interpretation of danceable, gripping goth tunes is among the most aesthetically convincing musical outputs this scene has witnessed for many years.

Eldar Amesha Spentas £12.75
Review
ELDAR (Marc Merinee and Merce Spica) return with a new album and with their significant mixture of dark ambient and bombastic martial music. As always they chose the title for their album for its philosophical and mystical meaning. On “Amesha Spentas” the songs have been based on the work of Goya, from the conceptual point of view, viewing these works through an occult philosophy. Each song is placed in a specific historical moment. All sounds and instruments have been chosen specifically for each song’s individual concept, using a multitude of synths, samples, tools (metals, knives, bowls, pipes, wood, etc.) together with field recordings and creating that special dark haunted atmosphere that has become wellknown as the ELDAR sound.

Cinderella Effect Cinderellicious £14.75
Review
After the rather spherical debut “Pearls” that was comprised entirely of cover versions, BLUTENGEL singer Constance Rudert embarks on a dark romantic adventure full of magical moments on her second album. With Marcus Seiler and Jonny Glück, she has found two partners in crime, making CINDERELLA EFFECT anno 2010 a full-blown band. The influence clearly shows on “Cinderellicious”, which sports a versatile blend of virtuoso piano sounds, strings and alternative rock influences, thus creating a unique sound that falls into place somewhere in the wide open field in between trip hop, new wave and the melancholy rock ballads of the likes of NICK CAVE or MADRUGADA. Aided by the devilish violinist Neil Black (who previously worked with UB40, BAUHAUS and COIL) and guitarist Carsten Klatte (PETER HEPPNER BAND, PROJECT PITCHFORK), CINDERELLA EFFECT have managed to create an impressive second album that is not easy to categorize but that will instantly pull you in with its atmospheric and catchy tunes.

Chrome Division Electroscope £13.75
Review
The German band CHROM are not big fans of genre restrictions. Henceforth, “Electroscope”, the title of the group’s debut album can be seen as rather programmatic, as the music is an eclectic amalgam from the broad stylistic bandwidth that electronic popular music has to offer, creating a sound that is as catchy as it is club-compatible. Vocals-wise, CHROM effectively walk the thin line between warm melodies and relentless energy. The bass power, impact and energy of EBM are fused with the airy, technoid elements of futurepop and the lush melodies of synthpop to create a versatile and compact sound that finds its very own niche in between bands like VNV NATION and SOLITARY EXPERIMENTS. The album is topped off by two remixes, one of them by famous Berlin-based dark pop band BLUTENGEL. Dance and let your mind flow!

Blood Axis Born Again £16.25
Review
There will be at least one resurrection on Easter Sunday, 2010, when BLOOD AXIS unveil their latest work, “Born Again”. The second full-length studio album in the group’s twenty-year history signals startling developments and a radical maturation. Old vines have been cut back and carefully tended in order to bear strange new fruit. Over the course of the twelve tracks that comprise “Born Again”, BLOOD AXIS explore an epic yet human universe in which gods are summoned, kingdoms rise, riddles are unlocked, love is lost, and worlds crumble. This is psychedelia in the literal sense: a ‘mind-manifesting’ journey through the collective psyche of its creators.

“Born Again” weaves a web of potent pleasures. Whereas the earliest BLOOD AXIS music was marked by keyboards and samples, in 2010 the sound is stripped down to an essential core of natural instrumentation, but with force and bombast fully intact. The sonic ingredients on this release include electric and acoustic strings (guitar, violin, bass, bouzouki, banjo), melodeon, piano, highland bagpipes and Galician gaita, marching percussion, the mysterious Annabel-a-tron, and Bobby BeauSoleil’s growling, prison-vintage guitar eruptions circa 1976. Underpinning the album and propelling much of the music is the traditional Irish drum the bodhrán, recorded here with unprecedented power. Moynihan’s ominous voice is well matched by Annabel Lee’s elfin intonations, just as her violin finds a perfect counterpoint in Robert Ferbrache’s protean guitar parts. A selective cabal of guest musicians from Europe and the USA add tasteful embellishments to these deceptively simple arrangements. Shot through by myth and romance, the expressive lyrics on “Born Again” have their roots in ancient and modern poetry, archaic invocations, and tragic laments. Alongside modern English and German, songs are sung in medieval 10th century Old English and 13th century Middle High German. The end result is both unclassifiable and unforgettable: neither folk nor rock, traditional nor avant-garde, modern nor archaic. It is simply BLOOD AXIS.

“Born Again” was recorded over a span of many years in remote locations ranging from rural Vermont to the catacombs of Absinthe Studios in Denver, Colorado. Engineered and produced by founding BLOOD AXIS member Ferbrache, the dense sonic tapestry of the album is simultaneously raw and refined, synergistically more than the sum of its primal parts. Packaged in a beautiful foil-blocked gatefold cover, “Born Again” includes a 24-page booklet with complete lyrics and translations, striking portraits of the band members, and solemn photographic images from France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, and the USA.

To everything there is season. For those who are cursed, a time to die and to be forgotten. And for the blessed, a time to be born again: to live on, beyond death, in the minds of men.

Now is the time for BLOOD AXIS to be Born Again.

Lacrimosa Schattenspiel £19.75
Review
After ten studio and two live albums and more than 100 songs for their 20th jubilee, the release of a ‘best of’ album might have been expected, but instead of that LACRIMOSA surprise us with the double album “Schattenspiel” (‘Shadowplay’) on which they present to their audience for the first time fifteen unreleased recordings from the past 20 years. And as if that weren’t enough, they have added two brand new songs, composed just for this release.

Reaching a 20 years jubilee is surely not ordinary. And it is even more extraordinary if you bear in mind that all these years LACRIMOSA have never signed a deal with a major record company depite a huge commercial success, with Top ten positions in the charts of various countries. Artistic freedom has always been the top priority for the band.

In addition to their cultural success, several artists from rock, pop and classical music name LACRIMOSA as a source of inspiration. Thus the duo of the German Tilo Wolff and Finnish Anne Nurmi became the co-founders of musical styles such symphonic rock and gothic metal and belong to the most important alternative music groups worldwide.

“Schattenspiel” starts with the presentation of the first and so far unheard musical steps from the year 1990. Then Tilo and Anne open their private archive with exclusive recordings from the following years and end their journey with the latest productions that can be currently heard from them. And what are we going to hear? I have to admit, rather exceptional recordings! Who would have thought that a band that is essentially known as a rock band had begun their career with pure electro numbers like “Schuld und Sühne” and “Seelenübertritt” (both 1990)? The original version of “Schakal” (1994) is particularly surprising. The song officially released in the same year is known as one of the first gothic metal songs ever, though this version doesn’t sound like it at all! The classical elements and the bombastic intention can be divined though the guitars which seem inspired by punk rock while the drums have electronic roots. This combination surely needs getting used to but exactly this makes it pretty charming.

Especially worth mentioning are the new titles “Sellador” and “Ohne Dich Ist Alles Nichts” which are almost opposites. While the former revives the band’s electronic roots, combining these with classical and rock elements, the latter is full of the strong and large emotions that this polemical but always consistent band are known for.

Over all “Schattenspiel” is an informative and touching double album which impresses with its courage of being no ‘best of’ but instead an intimate view into a fascinating musical world that cannot be compared.

Girls on Film Mental Image EP £10.75
Review
Hailing from Florida, GIRLS ON FILM are an all-female three piece band whose music is one part lipstick synth-pop and one part icy-cold new wave. Their fashion-fueled combination of high-energy stage antics and Dancetronic Glam Wave – their signature sound – has earned the band a reputation as one of the hottest new wave acts out of the US in years!

The Girls traveled to Malibu in the Summer of 2008 to work on their latest record, the “Mental Image EP” with legendary producer Geza X (best known for his work with many early and influential LA punk bands including THE DEAD KENNEDYS, THE GERMS, BLACK FLAG, and THE AVENGERS), and Paul Roessler of SCREAMERS, TWISTED ROOTS and 45 GRAVE. The nine-song EP is chock full of memorable hooks and perfectly exhibits the band’s new-wave inspired sound that straddles the line between retro and postmodern. It also features several remixes by high-profile artists including MACUTCHI, MIKE LANGE and DJ F. Song themes cover such topics as unrealized love, obsession, and self-doubt, but lead singer Rio’s carefully calculated lyrics are sharp, shooting and sophisticated. The EP’s two singles, “Pitiless Friend” and “Metrosexual”, feature the driving rhythms, icy synth-wave hooks, and quirky vocals for which GIRLS ON FILM have become known. Overall, the “Mental Image EP” combines a rhythmic, sensual whiff of nostalgia with progressive ideas and is a surprisingly modern-sounding album that brings a rock-and-roll attitude back to dance music.

System Syn Strangers £12.50
Review
Since the project’s inception in 1997 by musician and painter Clint Carney, SYSTEM SYN’s repertoire has grown to five albums, three EPs and more than a dozen remixes for leading Electro acts, as well as a myriad of compilation contributions.

The intensity and variety of this album is bound to turn heads, and should do wonders for the artist’s somewhat meagre European presence. Its spectrum covers slow, dark melancholic tracks, well-arranged electro-pop songs, and a fair sprinkling electro-industrial club floor-fillers such as “Here’s to Go”, “Chemical”, “The Inconvenient” and “Curtain Call”.

The cover and booklet art were painted by Carney himself are also sure to please art aficionados. But anyone looking at the cover and expecting dark or even aggressive sounds will be mistaken. Although all the songs carry a definite dark romantic and melancholic flair, one will find closer parallels to the works of FADERHEAD, DEPECHE MODE, PROJECT PITCHFORK, SEABOUND and DE/VISION.

The clear line on “Strangers” is built around Clint Carney’s great vocal style. Lyrically, he deals with dark impressions and relationship issues, which SYSTEM SYN superbly sets to music.

Asche The Easter Island Phenomenon £13.00
Review
“The Easter Island Phenomenon” can be compared to the symptom of a disease that has existed since the beginning of mankind. As an artist that is not isolated from contemporary world history, ASCHE has devoted the title of his third full length album on the Ant-Zen label to this phenomenon. Anger, fear and anxiety are brilliantly converted into eleven powerful compositions that range from pounding rhythmic industrial anthems to menacing dark ambient soundscapes – a threatening journey between distorted disco and noise brutality. Besides the album tracks, seven like minded artists have been drafted in to reconstruct ASCHE’s message via exciting remixes (which have been added onto the cd in mp3 format) for a total of 18 tracks. All of the remix artists, except for DJ Intoner, have already been released on ASCHE’s own label (Fich-Art). This is a fantastic and long-awaited album for open minded listeners.

Maschinenkrieger KR52 vs Disraptor Meltdown £13.25
Review
Since their debut “Audiophobie”, MASCHINENKRIEGER KR52 vs DISRAPTOR have become within a very short time one of the most high appreciated rhythm’n’noise acts on the scene. The huge number of club smashes on their last album and their highly energetic live performances assured that within a short time they would become a ‘must’ for industrial DJs everywhere.

On their second album they have developed their sound further and become more diverse, whilst preserving the typical and unique straightness of their tracks, with the result that these sixteen new tracks will function even more perfectly in the club environment. Strict, driving, distorted beats, samples and minimal sequences are melted together to give rise to an exciting rhythm’n’noise inferno full of energy. We don’t need breaks!

Suicidal Romance Shattered Heart Reflections £13.75
Review
Estonia-based SUICIDAL ROMANCE return with their second studio album to date. After the success of their debut “Love Beyond Reach” and the follow up EP “A Kiss to Resist”, the band decided to get none less than Vasi Vallis (of REAPER/FROZEN PLASMA fame) as their producer on the second album. And the mixture of the great melodies and solid songwriting from band leader Dmitry combined with the first class production skills Vasi Vallis has been able to bring to the project have really paid off! “Shattered Heart Reflections” has become a strong dark pop album working with cliches and and a lot of unexpected surprises. No wonder that the album will be released in four territitories simultaniously. Another great album by Estonia’s finest!
