DAO & COH – ‘Dzerzhinsk-9’ LP (Tourette) – £18 / £21 / £23
Russia has had an incredibly interesting and mostly uncredited underground electronic scene for some time. One of its flag bearers has been Ivan Pavlov (CoH). He has collaborated with Throbbing Gristle members Cosey Fanny Tutti and Peter Christopherson (as Soi Song). The LP is culled from 1996 recordings which were made with DAO (Andrej Dao Kolesov). DAO + CoH uses bass, guitars and custom ZX Spectrum and the results are pretty damn awesome. There is a distinct 90‘s flavour and yet it retains a freshness. ‘Propharadeia’ is a really driving track that makes me shake my body from finger to toe. ‘Oka’ is dark and sinister coming through like an Autechre / Muslimgauze hybrid, seething with eastern paranoia. ‘Sung In Sand’ continues the eastern flavour with its building intricate yet subtle percussion and swooping synths. Great stuff! Ltd x 440 copies on black vinyl.

Spybey has also worked under the name Propeller, was an original member of Download and has recently formed two bands: Beehatch (with Phil Western of Download), and Reformed Faction (with Robin Storey of Zoviet France and Rapoon). With DVOA Spybey continues to make music with real instruments; rhythms cultivated by hand from his love of ethnological music and the usual array of grainy sounds and effected vocals. He describes it as “music for the eyes.” Ltd x 400 copies on black vinyl.

These 2 tracks serve as a powerful evocation of the feral spirit in man. As well as founding members Alexander Nordgaren and Svein Egil Hatlevik, the recording features Andreas Barsleth and Ayna B. Johansen. “Evoco Bestias” was recorded at Crystal Canyon Studios, Oslo in 2008, with the assistance of Tore Ylwisaker (Ulver). IRM – ‘Red Album’ CD (Autarkeia) – £11 / £12 / £13
CD reissue to celebrate a decade since the release of the IRM’s “Red Album” LP. Martin Bladh and Erik Jarl had already known each other for a few years when they began their mission as IRM in 1997. Fuelled by the rage of sonic power-houses like Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, they recorded a demo tape that landed them a deal with Cold Meat Industry. Immediately upon its arrival, “The Red Album” was met by great enthusiasm as it breathed new life into a genre gone quite stagnant at the time. The sound displayed a unique amalgamation of Jarl’s analogue bass-heavy eruptions, and Bladh’s revelatory lyrics / vocals which were thematically more aligned with the apocalyptic preachings of Michael Gira than the confrontationalism of William Bennett. More than ten years down the road, the adolescent debutantes have become the revered minstrels of industrial gospel. Ltd x 500 copies in a digipak.

JARL – ‘Vertigo Rebirth’ CD (Autarkeia) – £11 / £12 / £13
Vertigo Rebirth is the 14th album from Swedish composer Erik Jarl (IRM) and the third and final part of the Vertigo trilogy. Like the earlier albums, this one generates particularly severe emotions: isolation, intoxication and especially negative, poisonous intuition. The album opens with a track that has a construction uncharacteristic to his previous works. This composition contains quite strange rhythms and is rather dynamic, which generates deceptive elation. But that’s only the first track of the album. The rest fling the audience back to the cold uncompromising space of drone, piercing and crushing all attempts to perceive the phenomenon of Jarl’s impasse. This is one more remarkable album for potential suicides. Ltd x 200 copies in a digipak.

LOCRIAN – ‘Territories’ CD (BloodLust! / Small Doses) – £11 / £12 / £13
André Foisy and Terence Hannum have spent the last several years honing the Locrian sound. They’ve taken elements from noise, power electronics, drone, and black metal to come up with a truly unique sound reflecting the sprawling urban decay surrounding them in Chicago. For this release, Locrian has pulled out all the stops and fleshed out the band with the help of Mark Solotroff (Bloodyminded), Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza) and Andrew Scherer (Velnias). The results of this massive collaborative effort are apparent from the moment the album starts. The textures run darker and deeper; the vocals – sometimes three layers deep – seem to be conjured from the decrepit muck of a failed civilisation; the feedback takes on a more pronounced presence; and the big band allows for full-on black metal assaults that burst out of the tortured drones Locrian have come to be known for. “Territories” may well be the most fully realised form of Locrian’s dystopic vision. MALDUR ATAI – ‘Checkpoint’ CD (Autarkeia) – £11 / £12 / £13
This is the first full album from Lithuanian industrial / ambient project Maldur Atai. This hour long album emanates a strong and solid atmosphere that grows, develops and changes during each exquisitely constructed track. All are related to violence in religion and religion as an arcane or masked violator acting in informational reality. This album reveals religion as a system marketed and propagated by invisible conspirators. Checkpoint is a filtration camp where children’s souls are met by elitist creatures of the arcane society wearing black mantles and hiding their faces. They lie, they enslave, they manipulate and they involve you in the vicious circle with almost no hope of retreat. Checkpoint is an abstract, universal and purified vision of Maldur Atai in which many will recognise their own very personal experiences and the symbols of the everyday secret war. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak.

MALDUR ATAI – ‘Vermin’ CD (Autarkeia) – £11 / £12 / £13
Vermin is the second full album from Lithuanian industrial / ambient project Maldur Atai. The subject matter of this album is the arcane supernatural world that is sometimes accidentally opened by the unwary. They summon demons they cannot later control. Vermin is a contact with otherworldly powers with an unpredictable aftermath, spoken about down the ages. Languorous, ominous and melancholic sounds turn into devouring, disturbing elements. A rich sample library was used for the composition of the album, each sample meticulously chosen and considered. Vermin is the invasion of powerful and malicious demons into the everyday life upon the accidental uttering of the forbidden mantra. Ltd x 300 copies in a digipak.

MAURIZIO BIANCHI – ‘YNOHPMYS’ CD (Tourette) – £11 / £12 / £13
The Italian electronics maestro seems to be still going strong after around 30 years with his latest release. Opener ‘Ortini’ is like the hazey recollection of a long train journey being put through an analogue filter bank. ‘The Inflammatory Sesor’ has a kind of feeling of nostalgia or distant memory that recalls William Basinski or The Caretaker. ‘Oigada’ sounds like two decomposing tape loops slightly out of sync creating a disorientating phasing effect. There are some very absorbing sounds here to get lost in. One for a late night in near darkness. Ltd x 400 copies in a digipak.

RETARDER – ‘Enquiries’ CD (Tourette) – £11 / £12 / £13
The solo debut of Lloyd James (Naevus). As Retarder, Lloyd sets out on a very edgy and stormy voyage, full of obstacles to overcome. A very experimental album, where no two tracks sound the same… piano improvisation, horns, mechanic riffs, vocal loops, multi-layered ambient, strummed guitar, deranged and distorted sounds, mysterious bleeps, strange effects, deranged vocals and a monologue. Open up all your senses and prepare for a while. Give it a shot. And then another. Ltd x 400 copies in a digipak.

SEELENBLUT – ‘Chastity & Dementia’ CD (Midnight Productions) – £11 / £12 / £13

Every passing minute is a deeper step into gloomy and sick nightmares. “The projekt Silcharde is the vehicle of Hereb in Aob. Silcharde is dedicated to the true BM occultists. The theme is sleep paralysis essentially and out of body experiences”. Ltd x 500 copies.

Originally started 4 years ago and after a bunch of EPs, splits and compilations tracks, here is finally the second full length album by THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT, a one-man band project leaded by Julien Louvet. After a year of work, this record – consisting of 9 tracks – varies between furious black metal, atmospheric funeral doom and folk ballads, and is surely his best and most mature work to date. Features a guest appearance from Jarboe. Ltd x 1000 copies with artwork by Gnaw Their Tongues.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – ‘Saite An Saite’ CD (Licht-Ung) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
Guitar-based CD with long tracks from Aidan Baker (Nadja), relapxych.o and M. Sandbleistift (Licht-Ung). “Sandbleistift’s gauzy drones hover above a thick amplifier hum, coupled with metal-on-metal scrapes, electrical interference directed into the pick-ups, and spidery textures that wiggle into the mix as he plucks away at the bridge of his guitar… Aidan Baker steals the show on this album. Even with his esteemed catalogue of ethereal ambience and doomdronedirge excursions, “One Step Ahead, One Step Behind” is pretty exceptional. A desolate guitar melody repeats throughout the entire track, alluding to the doom of Nadja had he kicked on the distortion pedals. But without, there’s a sadness which permeates the track, accompanied by ghostly flickers of complimentary drones, bursts of static, and a slow-burning roar of distant distortion that eventually consumes the entire piece. Relapxych.0 holds his own in creating a series of guitar-meets-the-laptop abstractions that looks to Fennesz and Tim Hecker for inspiration, and does a pretty good job in the way of an homage.” (Aquarius). Ltd x 300 copies.

BOYD RICE AND FRIENDS – ‘Music, Martinis And Misanthropy’ Picture Disc LP (NER) – £13 / £16 / £19
This album is considered a classic, yet defies easy categorisation. The music is lilting, hypnotic, and aesthetically quite pleasing to the ear. It features restructurings of works by The Carpenters, Rod McKuen, and Ragnar Redbeard, as well as original vitriolic and humanist pieces and misanthropic tunes by Rice. This album was inspired by Jackie Gleason’s romantic recordings from the 1950’s. Kind of like a uber-group of the “Apocalyptic Folk” set, the musicians included besides Boyd Rice (NON), Michael Moynihan (Blood Axis) and Douglas P. (Death In June) are Tony Wakeford (Sol Invictus) Rose McDowall (Strawberry Switchblade) and Robert Ferbrache (Blood Axis). This album is worth it’s price just for the cover image. Comes with bonus vinyl only track. Full cover picture disc with insert. Ltd x 2000 copies.

The track listing speaks for itself. “Abandon Tracks!” is 70 minutes of pure Death in June, with all tracks re-mastered. Packaged in an embossed, foil-blocked digipak with booklet.

DEATH IN JUNE – ‘Burial’ CD (Leprosy Discs) – £11 / £12 / £13
Burial was originally released as an LP in 1984 and was the first Death in June record released via Leprosy Discs. The personnel at the time was: Douglas P., Tony Wakeford and Patrick Leagas. After this record, Wakeford left the band. A CD version was released for the first time in 1991 and has remained sold out now for many, many years. Amongst the tracks on this record you’ll find a lot of classics and a complete set of brilliant live tracks. Another piece of the puzzle to fill the gaps in the DIJ back catalogue. Simply a must! Comes in nice foil-blocked digipak with embossed images.

DISSECTING TABLE – ‘Ultimate Psychological Description II’ CD (Dark Vinyl) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
“Ultimate…” was the second CD release by D.T. in 1993 and by far his most aggressive and rhythmical work to date, with vocals directly from hell… comparable to early In Slaughter Natives and Foetus. A fight between heaven and hell, combining Japanese Noise / Industrial tradition with a touch of western decadence.
GRUNTSPLATTER – ‘The Aberrant Laboratory’ CD (Dark Vinyl) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
The fourth release from Gruntsplatter builds a more transcendent atmosphere, weaving together a sustained darkness that conceals the grimy implements of the taboo nestled in the din. The brooding ambience and cutting frequencies combine with odd melody and an enveloping, fluid mix that lead you through the dirty laboratories and hovels of forbidden science where genius and atrocity meet on level ground. The familiar components of subtle detail, amorphous depth, and seething moods of Gruntsplatter are intact and further evolved here to allow the listeners thoughts to wander. Comparable to Blackhouse, Hunting Lodge, Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Lustmord etc.

HIS DIVINE GRACE – ‘Eurydice’ CD (Dark Vinyl) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

MEGAPTERA – ‘Extended Chaos’ 2 x CD (Autarkeia) – £17 / £18.50 / £20
Another release to celebrate 15 years of Megaptera! “Exended Chaos” consists of two old releases, “Near Death” and “Beautiful Chaos”. “Near Death” (cassette, Sound Source 1991) was Megaptera’s first official release and is the only release with all 3 members (Peter Nyström, Magnus Pettersson, Mikael Svensson). Using drum machine, various synths, movies, TV, radio and microphone they created a totally analogue and dirty death theme. On this CD, 3 bonus tracks are added from the same period. Get prepared for old school! “Beautiful Chaos” (MCD, Fever Pitch 1998), has been extended to 10 tracks. The extra material is the two classic tracks ‘Shadowland’ and ‘Sodom’ from the “Death Odors” compilation, the two tracks from the “In the Buchers Backyard” compilation, a bombastic remix of the apocalyptic ‘Final Day’ (by The Protagonist) and an extended version of ‘Shadowland’, remixed by Peter Nyström and Magnus Sundström. The sound of “Beautiful Chaos” is structured and heavy with an “end of the world” theme, using sampled and mixed sounds. Mastered by Magnus Sundström. Ltd x 500 hand-numbered copies in a stunning foldout digipak, with an embossed slipcase. Highly recommended!

MERZBOW – ‘Dead Leaves (Kareha)’ CD (Licht-Ung) – £11 / £12 / £13
Another fine release by Japanese Noise King Masami Akita! Not much info about this one. Possibly a reworking of the same-titled track ‘Kareha’ from the “Collapse 12 Floors” (OHM Records, 1999) album? Who knows! Not as harsh as the old analogue days, but has a sense of structure without beat – controlled feed back etc. Recorded and Mixed at Munemi House in January 2008 with artwork by Jenny Akita. Just under an hour of music. Released in a beautiful 6-panel digipak.

SCORPION WIND – ‘Heaven Sent’ 2 x LP (Twilight Command) – £11 / £15 / £19
“Heaven Sent” has long been considered the “lost” classic collaboration between Death In June’s Neofolk pioneer Douglas P. and Industrial Music’s renegade innovator Boyd Rice. Recorded in Australia prior to the pair starring in the cult film “Pearls Before Swine”, it is a unique, melodic and richly orchestrated ode to modern living, modern loving and modern hating. Joined by percussionist John Murphy (ex-SPK, The Associates, Current 93) for the first of what was to prove many collaborations between the “unregistered 3” and young Australian group Strength Through Joy (now Ostara), these recordings proved to be the perfect follow up to 1990’s ground-breaking Boyd Rice & Friends album “Music, Martinis & Misanthopy”. Limited edition pressed on brown vinyl. Comes with one-sided 12″ sized info-sheet.
COVERS ARE BENT / HAVE RING DAMAGE FROM POOR STORAGE, BUT VINYL AND INSERTS ABSOLUTELY MINT!
