Daniel Myer: We started under the name “Haujobb” in 1992. We started in the early 90’s. We we’re very impresssed with bands like Sepultura and Metallica and then we listened to Skinny Puppy’s Too Dark Park, and we decided to do something like that. “Industrial was born in Chicago with Ministry and Wax Trax”. As for the band meeting, we met in school. industrial was born in Chicago with Ministry and WaxTrax.
Chain D.L.K.: What are your musical influences?
Daniel Myer: Well, besides Sepultura and Metallica…before I liked those bands…we liked New Order, Depeche Mode and all the eighties bands.
Chain D.L.K.: Do you write in first person, third person, or both?
Daniel Myer: Depends on the track. Some of the tracks are personal, but most of the tracks that are story-based are written in third person.
Chain D.L.K.: Do your ideas for your lyrics come from dreams, thoughts or personal experiences?
Daniel Myer: Everything, but most of it is from my dreams.
Chain D.L.K.: How do you feel about being involved in the new school electro movement?
Daniel Myer: I don’t know because it’s kind of difficult for me, because I’ve been in the scene for 13 years now. I’ve supported the scene for that long but I was never really a part of it. I don’t dress up like most of the people. My music is kind of different, but it’s still somehow industrial. I always try to be different but I always try to support it. The scene needs a lot of support, because it is stuck in it’s own cliches. People have listened to the same stuff for years now. For the moment I think a lot of good influences come from the rave scene, for example, your hair extensions came from it. I’ve seen them in London at the Slimelight, which I love. I think the scene needs to be open it’s eyes to new avenues.
Chain D.L.K.: We see Haujobb as forerunners of a new wave of a new revolution, taking it from a different scene to a higher level and not staying in one stagnating section, how do you feel about that description?
Daniel Myer: Exactly, your right!
Chain D.L.K.: What direction do you want your music to go?
Daniel Myer: It doesn’t really matter what direction it is going, as long as it is something new, because I don’t know what is going to happen next year. I like all kinds of music at the moment, it’s “emocore”, it’s “hardcore” but I can tell you one thing, Haujobb is never going to be a rock band”.
Chain D.L.K.: Your DJ set is quite unique. We are used to the “Covenants” and the “Apop’s”, you know?
Daniel Myer: One beat for one hour I know. I like songs with lyrics. When I spin at home in my club, I spin for four hours, they know me well. If they want to hear “Bauhaus” or “Marianne from Sisters” I serve them, but I also try to introduce them to new music.
Chain D.L.K.: Are any videos coming out for Haujobb?
Daniel Myer: We did a video for the live show so you will see that in October.
Chain D.L.K.: In conclusion: What are some tips to surviving bands that are just starting out?
Daniel Myer: Oh, that is a hard thing to say! The scene needs new bands that try to be different and support the scene in any kind of way. They may start out like a copy of VNV but think they will find their own way. Bands shouldn’t expect anything from the music scene, because it sucks right now! Just have fun!
