I had not heard of Antiseptic Mouthrinse, and this seems to be the first release from this project, but it is the work of Tampa, Florida based artist Fabrizio Farfán, who also records under the name fzx. The label description took longer to read than to listen to the release, so here’s how they describe it:
“In heavy appraisal of the collage-as-a-weapon philosophies put forth by Elysia Crampton et al, the brief AMR is one of endless neural pathways of exemplaries. Informed by a digi-fogged Generation Z, Hispanic (Venezuelan) immigrant upbringing, outsider conceptions of frustrated grindcore guitar-isms mishmash with blown out boombox fastbreaks. An outsider perspective to extreme metal is acknowledged in a constant lack of self-serious presentation (see: artist name and song titles) while still encapsulating important aspects of the Gen Z residency such as the snaky surrounding-ness of the right-wing and the witnessing+normalization of internet degeneracies.”
If you don’t quite know what to make of this, you’re not alone. Still, like most of us who have gotten into artists like Negativland, I really enjoy sound collage, but I’m not too interested in grindcore and I’m Gen X, so we’ll see what we have here.
This entire release is just over 2 minutes, and both tracks follow a similar trajectory. Beats followed by a sample of a man saying "how could you forget 2016?" Then kicking into a weird mix of grinding guitar and Venetian Snares style beats. It's weird, but it's a good time. I could definitely go for more of this.
