Desensitized, the joint project of Deborah Martin and Dean De Benedictis is back with a new work titled 'Chaos in Premonition.' Expanding their sonic palette into heretofore unknown regions, the album serves as both a quest and a question - "who are we and what made us?" Taking off into "Ionic Realms [Victronomy Plubonius]" gravity seems flexible as we rise and fall in the aether; adrift, yet tethered to this time-space continuum. But we have "Abundant Time [Stemiostratomos]" for reflection, anticipation and renewal. Ticking clocks may mark the passage but are not a means to an end. In the title track - "Chaos in Premonition [Firestimo Mutato]," there is fluctuation yet purpose. Gentle percussive chimes like raindrops in a cavern rise slowly from shadowy depths, evoking the cosmic. Yes, there is seeming chaos in the patterns here, but it alludes to a deeper meaning in the temporal substance.

Spelunking into the "Deep Chasm [Subliminostrum]" will be a lengthy trip with little natural light. So much darkness but so much wonder as lantern beams touch on other worldly surfaces, and multi-color mineral magic holds sway. Few have plumbed these mysterious depths where species undiscovered may lurk. It is only fitting that we encounter "Mutations Of The Highest Order [MOTHO]," lifeforms like no other, for which religion, science and philosophy cannot account for. Partly frightening, partly fascination, we can only watch in awe as it unfolds, revealing only the secrets it wants us to see. Our "Logic Of Expression [Praetoreum]" creates primitive rituals with flute and drum for ritual purpose and supplication. That which we cannot fully comprehend must be greater than us, so worship, reverence and sacrifice are the order of the day. The somewhat contradictory title - "Immortals And Their Graves [Sacriligonus]" allows us to bury our dead Gods and come up with new ones through new rituals and new thought. Both serious and playful, we say farewell to the constrictive past and embrace the future with open arms. Yet, there are still "Crevices In Dark Places [Anexplicoa]" where strange things lurk, and you can heart them if you listen carefully. Is it real, or just a dream? In this "Sleep Of Innocence [Embulata]" we float, not knowing the bigger picture, but always hoping for something more, something familiar, something we can make our own. This is an extraordinary album that Martin and De Benedictis weave the ancient and futuristic into an otherworldly tapestry all their own.
