By releasing the exclusive picture vinyl edition of Nitzer Ebb’s album “Industrial Complex”, Black Rain continues the successful vinyl series, which already had some great and well-known predecessors like Welle Erdball, Feindflug, Die Perlen and more. Also this Nitzer Ebb picture vinyl is strictly limited to 500 numbered copies. As a special bonus, you will find an exclusive FEINDFLUG-remix of the Nitzer Ebb-track “Once You Say” – a song featuring the backing vocals of Martin Gore!!! When Douglas McCarthy and Bon Harris formed a band in 1982 and started to record their first demos, they didn’t yet know that they were writing music history. Their sound was raw and unpolished, an electronic adaptation of the dying punk movement. With minimal funding, drums, a sequencer and McCarthy’s penetrating voice, they quickly came to stand as a synonym for a significant new musical genre: Electronic Body Music (or EBM for short). Through seminal albums such as “That Total Age”, “Belief” and “Ebbhead”, they continued to beat their own unique path, until they parted company after ten years. However, this was not the end and recent reunion shows have proven that there is life still in the old ghost. As brilliant and relevant today as ever, they are now back with a brand new studio album, “Industrial Complex”. Opening with a rousing bassline, reminiscent of the wonderful “Murderous”, the opening track “Promises” sets the tone. McCarthy’s voice varies from offensive to fragile, with an arrangement rich in detail, edginess and energy.  This album is like a bridge back in time to the 80s. Without doubt, this is the work of NITZER EBB, with the same level of complexity that characterises all their work, traversing the years to create a new modern sound for the present. Released on Black Rain and available May 28th, 2010.

Those that keep a close eye on Mike Cadoo’s Bitcrush project may have been somewhat concerned with the title of his previous full-length, Epilogue in Waves. That album, by Cadoo’s admission, was to be the last of his cathartic Bitcrush entity. Thankfully, writing music is an integral part of Cadoo and has become an important means to understand life. Now, two years later we see the release of Cadoo’s fifth album from his Bitcrush project ‘Of Embers.’ Of Embers is his most intimate album and continues with the very personal cathartic nature we have come to expect. Cadoo has always transitioned between and fused together diverse styles seamlessly and with each album has moved the Bitcrush meme towards his personal needs of expression. Of Embers begins where the Epilogue in Waves’ song Pearl left us. Presented are longer movements each that progress and tell their story patiently using the sound that has grown to become the Bitcrush norm. Of Embers is an hour in length, yet boasts only six tracks; three tracks over 10 minutes and two that approach 15 minutes. Of Embers finds Cadoo looking even further back into his experiences and inner struggles than ever before to create what may be the most hopeful album of his musical career. released on n5MD.

Gothenburg based duo Kopfer Kat (Michael Andresen and Jimmy Andersson) is without a doubt the hardest release we have unleashed on Progress Productions since the start of our label. Many people will most likely know them from our wellknown labelsampler series “Born/Evolve/Progress”. Even though Kopfer Kat actually was one of the first bands to be signed to Progress Productions the debutalbum has taken long time to produce and record. These guys are not compromising with quality. But finally it now sees the light of day. Kopfer Kat´s music can be described as noise-driven clubmusic that truly hits you like a fist straight in the face. The uncompromising driving beats and rhythms will for sure knock you down. Fans of early Sonar, Winterkälte, Imminent Starvation, Terrorfakt and similar acts will have the feast of their life… Released on Progress and available May 31st, 2010.

A Little Hard To Swallow consists of a long sequence of untitled tracks spread over two sides. Since the original cassette recording featured few, if any, distinguishable track breaks we felt it important not to arbitary separate each single piece of music for the CD release. Rozz had obviously intended for the music to be enjoyed as a continous listening experience rather than for each piece to be listened to in isolation. This would not be the last time that Rozz used such tactics. A Little Hard To Swallow also incorporates the use of samples and there are some vocalisation and spoken word sequences as well as live jam recordings. Artwork: The original cassette sleeve for A Little Hard To Swallow survives and is also in the possession of Ron Marrs. The sleeve features a black and white image and above it are the words ‘A brain operation, showing a bone drill boring through the skull.’ In addition, Rozz superimposed an image of an eye to complete the artwork. The original cassette artwork was quite plain and grainy, and so we decided to transform the image completely to give it a more dramatic effect for the cd release. We also chose to move the text to underneath the image. Released on Malaise Music and available May 31st, 2010.

01 Disc A 44:34
02 Disc B 45:27

Living Monstrosities / Descent consists of two separate pieces of music on each side of the cassette. Living Monstrosities is on side A, and Descent is on side B. Living Monstrosities makes use of various repeated sound effects which gradually builds into a crescendo, and a repeated vocal sample of ‘the most astounding living monstrosity of all time’. Descent is a purely instrumental recording, which again relies on repeated sound effects forming a very dark, menacing composition. The original cassette sleeve for Living Monstrosities / Descent survives and is also in the possession of John Collins. The sleeve features a black and white image of a screaming child being held down by an unidentified adult, presumably a doctor or physician of some kind. The original cassette artwork is quite dramatic, and we simply chose to rotate the image 90 degrees in an anticlockwise direction so that the child’s face is the correct way up. The next task was to remove the crease lines on the cassette sleeve from the scanned artwork and then decide on the design for the back cover. With only one image to work from, consideration was given to selecting other artwork or images from Rozz’s vast body of work. However, we felt that we should be faithful to the original cassette and adding unconnected images would only distract and mislead fans. Our solution was to remove the child’s face, leaving just the adult’s hands. We again chose to incorporate a barcode to the back cover in keeping with many previous PE releases. Since the barcodes used by Rozz were purely decorative and served no other purpose, it was our intention to use a replica of the one on the 1989 issue of the Death Cultures cassette. The use of the barcode will be a common theme throughout the series. Released on Malaise and available May 31st, 2010.
