Welcome to our weekly round-up of forthcoming releases. It’s getting rather quiet now as we approach summer.
The rarities of the electronic pioneer KLAUS SCHULZE were previously released in a strictly limited edition, called “The Ultimate Edition”, and document the history and the rich diversity of this exceptional musician. These recordings – now completely remastered – are being reissued in a series of elaborate editions, each containing three CDs in a high-quality digipak. “La Vie Electronique” volume 5 contains “Berlin Schöneburg”, “Nostalgic Echo” and “The Poet”, whilst volume 6 features “The Other Oberhausen Tape”, “Zeitgeist” and “La Vie Secrète”.
“Violence Corporation”, the new album from K.I.F.O.T.H., presents 10 tracks of complex, multi-layered dark electronics, reminiscent of the best electro-industrial of the 90s, such as FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, NOISE UNIT, X MARKS THE PEDWALK and T.H.D.
The new longplayer from GOLDEN APES, “Denying the Towers Our Words Are Falling”, proves once again that this group, fronted by charismatic singer Peer Lebrecht, has undoubtedly been an integral part of the scene for over ten years now. The whole album keeps the spirit of classic ‘Wave-Rock’ bands like JOY DIVISION, THE CHAMELEONS and PETER MURPHY alive and adds a modern touch, both in songwriting and production.
More than twelve years after their debut album, BORN FOR BLISS return with their long-awaited second album! The band was founded by guitarist and vocalist Frank Weyzig who, as live guitarist and keyboard player of CLAN OF XYMOX, was responsible for the typical guitar sound. In addition to the eleven new tracks on this album, we also find previously unreleased songs like “Dragon” (composed originally in the 80s for CLAN OF XYMOX) and “Ylene” (composed for and performed by the band LOVE LIKE BLOOD).
When it comes to classical techno/electro made in Frankfurt, Germany, there is one project that you cannot fail to come across: KONZEPT. With more than 50,000 copies sold of their debut single “Hypnautic Beats” they became a club sensation all over Europe! INFACTED RECORDINGS were almost ‘forced’ to pick this great act to present them as part of the ‘classics’ collection! Some massive bonus tracks have been included too!
SERAPHIM SHOCK’s highly anticipated fourth album, “Black Heart Revival”, is their first since 2004! Covering a broad spectrum, from darker ballads to high-energy punk anthems to social distortion-style rock’n’roll, frontman Charles Edward’s haunting melodies captivate the listener and take you on a sonic journey like no other.
SCORN’s fourteenth full length release remains in the vibe and tempo of modern dubstep. SCORN is an entity – for over fifteen years Mick Harris has not relented with the project’s dubbed out beats, film noir atmospheres, and over the top bass compulsions. “Refuse; Start Fires” is perhaps the angriest and most well articulated of his projects in the last decade!
Spanish act DE_TOT_COR provide dark industrial with intelligent and disturbingly beautiful melodies and pounding beats. “Dead Heart EP” contains six original compositions and five remixes from SOMAN, STATIC SKY, REVOLUTION STATE and others. Includes the club hit “Strawberry Panic”.
Since the release of their now classic Russian neofolk album “Belovodie” five years ago, MOON FAR AWAY have proved their status as the ‘band of influence’ on the current Russian scene. “Minnesang” is an album of 21st century ritual music encased in a unique fusion of the most diverse and zeitgeist-capturing musical styles, from neofolk and post-punk to practically future-pop.
The return of DEAD TURNS ALIVE! After years of silence the long awaited album “Maelstrom” is finally available, containing a mix of rough-edge industrial, melodic synthpop and hammering beats, inspired by the old-school heroes of EBM and industrial. Also contains four excellent remixes by BAK XIII, BRAIN LEISURE, NOVEMBER PROCESS and REVOLUTION STATE.
TYMPANIK AUDIO have four new releases imminent. LUCIDSTATIC’s “Symbiont Underground” consists of 23 solid new tracks spanning a 2CD collection, featuring collaborations with such artists as MOTHBOY, ESA, EXPERIMENT HAYWIRE, MANUFACTURA and many more. TOTAKEKE’s fourth full-length album, entitled “On the First of November”, delivers infectious beatwork accentuated by complex rhythms, dark melodies, and massive atmospheres to create another addictive beat-driven masterpiece. ANKLEBITER, hailing from Portland, Oregon, bring a vast array of seemingly straightforward analog patterns converging together to generate deeply emotional, beat-driven dark IDM soundscapes on “I Will Wait”. And after his excellent debut release “Audio Vandalism” in 2008, the French industrialist ZELLER now offers listeners his most abrasive and uncompromising work to date – “Turbulences”. Apocalyptic and ominous, a rare and forward thinking approach to the rhythmic noise genre.
ATTENTION SYSTEM is an electro act from Atlanta, USA. Their influences include all the ‘obvious’ acts, such as VNV NATION, COVENANT, COMBICHRIST, etc., but also some rather less ‘obvious’ ones including THE CURE, CLAN OF XYMOX, LAIBACH, and others! Dabbling in the world of electronics, they’ve managed to fuse 80s synthpop with darker undertones. “Wait for My Signal” is twelve tracks of catchy, but dark electro that will make people dance!
The ‘mother of all gothic compilations’, and one of the longest-running gothic/wave compilation series, is back once more. “Gothic 48” has over 160 minutes of music, split between one disc with more goth/darkwave/guitar-based music and another one with electro/EBM/industrial sounds.
Have a great week!

Review The rarities of the electronic pioneer KLAUS SCHULZE were previously released in a strictly limited edition, called “The Ultimate Edition” and document the history and the rich diversity of this exceptional musician, even more impressive than on his official releases. These recordings – now completely remastered – are being reissued in a series of elaborate editions, each containing three CDs in a high-quality digipak, including a booklet with detailed background information and comments.
“La Vie Electonique” volume 5 contains recordings from the years from 1976 to 1977. “Berlin Schöneberg” was recorded in 1976 at a Berlin radio concert, “Vie de Rêve” iêcorded in Reims in France. “Nostalgic Echo” and “Titanische Tage” are solo concerts from 1976. A year later “For Barry Graves” was recorded – a short concert for the West German radio broadcasting show Music Extra 3. “The Oberhausen Tape” is a concert from 1976 (the second part of this concert is on “La Vie Electronique 6”). Finally, “The Poet” is a typical piece of the “Moondawn” era.

Review Disc 1 contains the second part of the Oberhausen concert featured on “La Vie Electronique 5”, plus the two solo pieces “Schwaensee” which were recorded in 1976 in the studio in Hambühren. “Fear at Madame Tussaud’s” was recorded in April, 1977 in the London planetarium – at that time a novelty, for it was the first time that a concert had been held in a planetarium. “Zeitgeist” is a concert which was recorded on October 17Th, 1977 in front of 5500 people in the Cathedral of Saint Michael in Brussels. “Inside The Harlequin” is the encore of this evening. The recording date of “La Vie Secrète” cannot be exactly determined any more. Recorded either in 1977/78 or 1975 this piece remains a very quiet, almost meditative jewel. In contrast to this stands “Barracuda Drum”, recorded around 1978 with Harald Grosskopf on drums. Last but not least at the end of the third CD we encounter the KLAUS SCHULZE of 1979: in October and November of that year Schulze was on tour with ARTHUR BROWN. “There Was Greatness in the Room” is a fragment of the encore of a concert from October 29th 1979 in Brussels. The specific thing about this recording: beside the voice of ARTHUR BROWN the vocoder-voice of KLAUS SCHULZE is also to be heard…

Review This new longplayer proves once again, that this group fronted by charismatic singer Peer Lebrecht, have undoubtedly been an integral part of the scene for over ten years now. Songs like “Liberation” show references to well know genre bands, but the whole album keeps the spirit of classic ‘Wave-Rock’ bands like JOY DIVISION, THE CHAMELEONS, THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS and PETER MURPHY alive and adds a modern touch, both in songwriting and production. Review More than twelve years after their debut album “Flowing with the Flue” (released on Deathwish/Nuclear Blast) and the “Arabia” single, BORN FOR BLISS return with their long-awaited second album! The band was been founded by guitarist and vocalist Frank Weyzig who, as live guitarist and keyboard player of well known wave-gothic band CLAN OF XYMOX, was responsible for the typical guitar sound. In addition to the eleven new tracks on this album, we also find previously unreleased songs like “Dragon” (composed originally in the 80s for CLAN OF XYMOX) and “Ylene” (composed for and performed by the band LOVE LIKE BLOOD for their “Snakekiller” album). In total, “Between Living and Dreaming” offers fifteen tracks with a classical guitar-wave impact which cannot be ignored. Review SERAPHIM SHOCK’s highly anticipated fourth album, “Black Heart Revival”, is their first since 2004! The album covers a broad spectrum, from darker ballads to high-energy punk anthems to social distortion-style rock’n’roll. Frontman Charles Edward’s haunting melodies captivate the listener and take you on a sonic journey like no other. From the band’s early goth roots to the hard rock’n roll hybrid that it is today, SERAPHIM SHOCK continue to captivate people from all walks of life with their infectious hooks and dark overtones. Truly a classic SERAPHIM SHOCK album!

Review SCORN’s fourteenth full length release remains in the vibe and tempo of modern dubstep while adding a brand new element to the SCORN sound: a live drummer, Ian ‘Yan’ Treacy. The vibrant sounds of the kit are run through the filters and dub wizardry of Mick Harris, former drummer for NAPALM DEATH and guinness world record holder for composer of the world’s shortest song. SCORN is an entity – for over fifteen years Mick Harris has not relented with the project’s dubbed out beats, film noir atmospheres, and over the top bass compulsions. “Refuse; Start Fires” is perhaps the angriest and most well articulated of his projects in the last decade!

Review Since the release of their now classic Russian neofolk album “Belovodie” five years ago, MOON FAR AWAY have proved their status as the ‘band of influence’ on the current Russian scene. Their cult following includes both dark folk, neofolk and folk metal fans, as well as the gothic and neoclassic audience. “Minnesang” is an album of 21st century ritual music encased in a unique fusion of the most diverse and zeitgeist-capturing musical styles, from neofolk and post-punk to practically future-pop. All these facets blend seamlessly in the unparalleled sound of MOON FAR AWAY’s probably most polystylistic, yet internally deeply conceptual and person-centered album!
Review The return of DEAD TURNS ALIVE! After years of silence the long awaited album “Maelstrom” is finally available. The new longplayer contains a mix of rough-edge industrial, melodic synthpop and hammering beats. Serving fans of melodic atmospheric synthpop with hightlights like “The Serpent’s Chant” and “Fading Away”, and pleasing hardcore industrial clubbers with songs like “Love Is Lost” and “S.I.N.”, it surely covers a wide range of dark electronic music, inspired by the old-school heroes of EBM and industrial. In addition to that, “Maelstrom” contains four excellent remixes by BAK XIII, BRAIN LEISURE, NOVEMBER PROCESS and REVOLUTION STATE.
Tracklisting 01. S. I. N. 02. The Serpent’s Chant 03. Someone Had to Die 04. Fading Away (Featuring ARIANNA) 05. Love Is Lost 06. Tonight 07. Re-Birth 08. We Say 09. Final Words 10. Har Meggido 11. Fading Away (NECROTEK Remix)
Review Initially working from a vast collection of unfinished material, LUCIDSTATIC approached and was approached by a talented cast of both up-and-coming and well-established artists. Piece by piece, track by track, each selection for “Symbiont Underground” was poured over, polished, and perfected until the collective results swelled beyond the expectations of its creators.
As such, the album consists of 23 solid new tracks spanning a 2CD collection featuring collaborations with such artists as ANGEL OF VIOLENCE, MOTHBOY, IAMMYNEWT, MONOPENGUIN, ESA, HUMAN ERROR, MANGADRIVE, EXPERIMENT HAYWIRE, SERVO HATRED, PIG FAT, MANUFACTURA and many more, with artwork by Kostas K. (SUBHEIM) and mastering by Justin Brink (PNEUMATIC DETACH). With so many diverse minds and capable hands at work here, it’s almost unimaginable that such a strong, compelling, and astoundingly cohesive album such as “Symbiont Underground” could be achieved. Yet here it is…

Review One of Tympanik Audio’s most revered and iconic artists returns for his fourth full-length album entitled “On the First of November”. Here TOTAKEKE elevates his signature brand of infectious beatwork accentuated by complex rhythms, dark melodies, and massive atmospheres to create another addictive beat-driven masterpiece. He steps up the tautness with a resounding sense of ferocity pounding out ten powerful new tracks of immense proportions. From beginning to end, “On the First of November” gushes with caressing tension and head-nodding beats amidst a swirling torrent of sputtering glitch, ominous pads, punching beat drops, mind-bending breaks, and looming basslines. Quite possibly TOTAKEKE’s most focused work to date.
Review Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Tanner Volz began cultivating his talents for creating electronic music in the early 1990s with the post-industrial band THINE EYES. From there, the eclectic project ML was realized and went on to release prolific works on such labels as Toast and Jam, n5MD, En:peg, and Piehead Recordings. In 2008, Tanner seeded his new project ANKLEBITER. During this time, a deeply personal, idiosyncratic, and emotionally rich instrumental electronic work emerged that fully indulged Tanner’s love of contemporary Shoegaze and Synthpop styles, as well as his deep roots in early industrial and dark new wave.
With a vast array of seemingly straightforward analog patterns converging together to generate deeply emotional, beat-driven dark IDM soundscapes, “I Will Wait” manages to embrace a refreshing simplicity with unique effectiveness that is rarely heard these days. Staggering beats meet nostalgic synthlines to create a haunting aural utopia that is at once beautiful and altogether strangely alluring.

Review After his excellent debut release “Audio Vandalism” in 2008 on the German label Hymen Records, the French industrialist ZELLER now turns to Tympanik Audio to offer our listeners his most abrasive and uncompromising work to date. Apocalyptic and ominous, ZELLER’s maniacal new conceptions embrace a rare and forward thinking approach to the rhythmic noise genre, with an uncanny proficiency in control, density, and undeniable intensity. A shivering and addictive plunge into the dying art of modern rhythmic industrial.

Review ATTENTION SYSTEM are an electro act from Atlanta USA. Their influences include all the ‘obvious’ acts that come to mind when listening to music of this genre, such as VNV NATION, COVENANT, COMBICHRIST, ICON OF COIL, FRONT 242, SKINNY PUPPY, APOPTYGMA BERZERK etc., but also some rather less ‘obvious’ ones including THE CURE, CLAN OF XYMOX, LAIBACH, DAFT PUNK, JEAN-MICHEL JARRE and others!
The first time ATTENTION SYSTEM sat down together with their instruments in the summer of 2008, they had one common goal in mind: to write music that would make people dance. With darkwave and punk at their core, Brian Fisher (vocals, keys), Joshua Broughton (guitar, vocals), Jonathan Davis (guitar), Chris Edmonds (bass) and Jason Curtis (drums) were ready for something new. Dabbling in the world of electronics, they’ve managed to fuse 80s synthpop with darker undertones – and they’ve created what they only half-jokingly like to call “a rock band who’s mugged an electronica band and is digging through a stolen, dirty pair of pants for extra synth lines.” They’ve been compared to countless other electro acts, but ATTENTION SYSTEM’s music packs a heavier punch than most while remaining highly danceable.
In 2008 ATTENTION SYSTEM independently released a self-produced EP which earned the band generous local and regional radio airplay, plus a (US) nationally televised commercial for the DIY Network. In just over a year the band has gone from unknown local act to headlining packed weekend shows in Atlanta’s notorious underground rock and dance venues. Their live shows have generated a citywide buzz, landing them numerous opening slots for national acts and the Readers Choice Award for Best New Music Act in The Creative Loafing’s Best Of Atlanta 2009 edition.
With their grip on the Atlanta music scene firmly established, ATTENTION SYSTEM set out to broaden their regional presence with an aggressive touring schedule throughout the South East of the United States in 2009. At the same time, they headed back to the studio to track their first full-length record. With the new album now completed, the band is gearing up for an explosive 2010 with the highly-anticipated release of their CD, new high-definition videos and extensive bookings along the East Coast – and hopefully to Europe later on this year!
And here it is: “Wait for My Signal”. Twelve tracks of catchy but dark electro that will make people dance everywhere!

Review From the early 90s, tracks by BIONIC have been featured on countless EBM compilations, all of which are now collector’s items (such as “We Came to Dance 7” and “Tyranny Off the Beat Vol. 2”). After a very successful debut album on Off Beat Records, the project showed the promise of a bright future and toured with acts such as à;GRUMH, DIE KRUPPS and DE/VISION. But instead, BIONIC simply stopped producing music and completely disappeared from the scene. Now, fifteen(!) years later, BIONIC return with ten new songs and two remixes, proving that ‘Electronic Body Music’ is still alive and still able to sound modern and up-to-date! “Close to Nature” turns out to be a multi-faceted album with strong melodic elements, showing influences from classical EBM pioneers such as DATA BANK A (“What Would You…?”, “Somwhere”) complex atmospheric soundscapes (“Cold Eyes”) and catchy melodic club sounds (“It Doesn’t Matter”) which are reminiscent at times of the earlier phase of FRONT 242 (“Anything”). The mastering was done by Dirk ‘ACCESSORY’ Steyer, who also contributes a remix.
Tracklisting 01. It Doesn’t Matter 02. Anything 03. Inside 04. What Would You..? 05. Cold Eyes 06. Give Me Shelter 07. Somewhere 08. Strive for Uniting 09. It’s No Par 10. I Want to Save You 11. Inside (Remix by ACCESSORY) 12. It Doesn’t Matter (Want U Remix by MINUSHEART)
Review It all started out with a few synth-lines and a few stories to tell. It wasn’t supposed to be fancy but to hang somewhere on a rawer level. That was the aim when DUST IS NOISE was formed by Jacob, Mike J and Mike T. Collectively the three members work as the electronic outfit ALTER DER RUINE, an act known for dirty, funky electro. In their downtime they found themselves writing melodic synthpop and while they enjoyed it they knew it couldn’t be worked into the ADR live sets without causing heads to implode. Rather than leave the songs on the shelf they chose to add vocals and dress the tunes up as an entirely different package. With heavy emphasis on a big beat, grooving synths and incensed vocals DUST IS NOISE jammed along on a mission to complete a full length album. After playing a slew of live dates they caught the attention of Vendetta Music and shortly afterwards were taken on board to release their debut album entitled “Fractured Forms”.
Tracklisting 01. Fractured 02. Path Too Worn 03. Ambergris 04. Built to Burn Through 05. Clouds Breathe 06. Halfway There 07. Last Light 08. Blind Spot 09. One Failed Voice 10. Hands That Loved
Review Back again with a new project, Taury Goforth, original singer-songwriter for HEX RX’s album “X”, is proving to be forever in our faces with violent aggression and an enraged, ‘fuck you’ attitude. Having been classified as ‘progressive old-school’, this face-lift to industrial music will make you stop bickering about how bad the food is and make you want to get up and punch the cook in the face. This self-titled album should please most audiences due to the diversity in style throughout. This is not the same song over and over again, folks, it is a triumph of industrial glory! With songs like “Horror” and “Concrete” you’ll be forced to your feet by stompy dance beats. With tracks like “Desultory” and “Dejected” you’ll be possessed by violent rage and angst. And “Taste” is becoming the new fuck song for all clubs with its raunchy and overly imaginative/suggestive lyrics and tones.
Tracklisting 01. The 28 Strengths of Fear 02. Concrete 03. Lost 04. Smell of Fear 05. Dejected 06. Hate Me 07. Horror 08. Nature Abhors a Vacuum 09. Taste 10. Not for Me 11. Club Cancer 12. Are You Happy 13. Cyanide 14. Desultory
Review Artaud Seth, ex-head of DION FORTUNE RECORDS and founder of bands like THE MERRY THOUGHTS, DIARY OF DREAMS and GARDEN OF DELIGHT is back, triumphant!
For Artaud Seth, the final stop of legendary GARDEN OF DELIGHT didn’t mean the end of his career. Three years after the last regular GARDEN OF DELIGHT album Seth is back with a new album called “LIB.1” out on the Solar Lodge label. The album was already released in March of this year, exclusively available from the label directly and through a few, very selected mailorders. The original release is now completely sold out, but the second edition comes with an exclusive, previously unavailable bonus track.
“‘LIB.1’ is a revisiting of the sound of the eighties and early nineties. Pure, retro Goth!” as the band puts it. They didn’t have the intention to do something completely new. They are not trying to reveal another future sound.
If you like the Sisters, you’ll love the Nuns.
Simple, ironic, dark. Just tunes from a long forgotten time of very intense music! Enjoy the Nunhood.

Review EVILS TOY first saw the light of day in the summer of 1992, when future band members Volker Lutz and Thorsten Brenda were introduced to each another by a mutual friend. They started to work together instantly, finding that their existing equipment masterly complemented each other’s, so… the founding of an electro band was virtually an inevitable consequence. The two were inspired by bands such as DEPECHE MODE, FRONT 242 and THE INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, which meant that their concerted efforts soon bore their first fruits. Today almost eighteen(!) years later, Infacted Recordings presents a 13-track first part ‘Best Of’ release, with an additional three unreleased bonus tracks in remastered format and – as usual for their “Classics” series – limited to 1000 copies worldwide!

Review When it comes to modern third generation EBM, sooner or later you are sure to come across one name: JOHAN VAN DAMM! ‘The Voice’ is his alias, and in addition his new ‘baby’ AGREZZIOR he has already participated in projects such as DUPONT and MENTICIDE, performing legendary live shows on the EBM scene. “Domination” is both the title and the aim of this new EBM masterpiece by the Swedish vocal wizard! Alongside the current ORANGE SECTOR album “Krieg und Frieden” this release sets new standards in Electronic Body Music! Musicwise the album was produced under the seal of AUTODAFEH (and the disc also includes a collaborative track with and a remix by this act), yet another synonym for agressive body music at its very best!

Review Although many people hopelessly underestimated this ferocious act after their first single “Hellektrostar” (the EP was sold out in 2 weeks!), the debut longplayer “FallOut Nation” convinced even the most stubborn critics and enviers that this conglomerate of wild electro addicts is here to stay!
Without even pausing to draw breath, EXT!ZE launch their second highly addictive single “Gothic Pussy” right into the strobelight-dominated black heart of the clubs and the united electro armies of this world. Reckless, and as always, regardless of the consequences, “Gothic Pussy” undoubtedly marks one of the many highs on the club manifesto “FallOut Nation”, making it the perfect second assault for the dancefloors.
And when EXT!ZE once again take charge of the international DJ playlists with this mercilessly stomping track, no one will be able to resist the ‘with us or against us’ attitude these glamorous savages have cultivated. Still, EXT!ZE are way more than another flashy cybergoth outfit hunting after the latest trends as this second single openly articulates: armed with an impressive array of ten tracks, the electro rebels propagate their genuine lifestyle and celebrate their passion for hyperactive nights, intoxicants and driving beats that no one can resist. Of the four songs featured, two of them are exclusive and previously unreleased, and the EP features remixes by beat priests like X-RX and SANTA HATES YOU (the new battleground of electro veteran Peter Spilles of PROJECT PITCHFORK), making sure that even the laziest feet are moving to their rhythms.
With EXT!ZE intoning their provocative hymn “Gothic Pussy”, highly laborious dancefloor activity is preprogrammed once more – appropriately accompanied by profoundly explicit booklet pictures that interpret the single’s title as tantalizingly as possible without becoming illegal. EXT!ZE is pure sex – and “Gothic Pussy” is a harsh dancefloor terror for the new decade.
Long live the night!

Review Things have been quiet since FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY released their last album “Artificial Soldier” in 2006. Now, however, a new album has finally been confirmed for a mid-June release! “Improvised Electronic Device” will feature a collaborative track entitled “Stupidity” with Al Jourgensen of MINISTRY. Jourgensen will contribute vocals and lyrics to the track, dedicated to the memory of Wax Trax! Records founders Jim Nash and Dannie Flescher. Artist Dave McKean, who has done past artwork for FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY and FEAR FACTORY, provided the artwork for the album and its first single “Shifting Through the Lens”. More details to follow.
Review The sounds of the last regular studio album from MANTUS have barely faded away yet Martin Schindler is already releasing another ambitious project which could cause quite a stir for some. “Die Hochzeit von Himmel und Hölle” is an ambitious collage of typically catchy MANTUS songs, instrumental pieces and elements in the style of a play, all based on William Blake’s book “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”. Blake’s painting “The Great Red Dragon” should be known to many from the similarly-named “Hannibal Lecter” film and from the book by Thomas Harris. Blake’s paintings and poems, full of powerfully eloquent poetry, dark strength and fascinating reflections on the world have lost none of their relevance and appeal even up to the present day. By using the framework of Blake’s poetry, MANTUS succeed in creating an album which, predominantly through the spoken lyrics, stands out clearly from MANTUS’ own works and yet offers the same inspirational elements that their fans are fond of. Powerful song structures, the mixture of hard guitars and driving percussion, the extravagant classical arrangements and the subtle use of acoustic instruments such as guitars and harpsichord mixed with electronic set pieces. The combination of catchy hooklines, imaginative soundtrack structures and the expressive choral speaking of Thalia and Martin Schindler, based on Blake’s texts, creates a total work of art which easily masters the balancing act between high quality musical art and catchy gothic music.
With “Die Hochzeit von Himmel und Hölle”, MANTUS have succeeded in pulling off a brilliantly-executed piece of dark, catchy musical art and sophisticated lyricism.
This luxurious first edition of the album comes in A5 format, containing a special booklet with astonishing illustrations and a precious art print. Strictly limited to 1999 copies worldwide.

Review Amazing new discovery on the Boredom Label, known for excellent acts such as CELLULOIDE, DECKAD, FORETASTE… Hailing from Lille close to Belgium and its electronic influence, NEUTRAL LIES deliver a blend of pop melodies à la CAMOUFLAGE and minimal electronics à la ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL. But the band are far from imitating the past, and do not limit themselves to these good old references but also inject some techno influences into their sound – especially and unexpectedly in their more mid-tempo tracks. The quality of both songwriters and vocalists make their debut album “A Deceptive Calm” a unique piece to discover, one into which to dive slowly further with each listen. Not an attempt to make dancefloor hit killers, but a whole and consistent album of eleven well-written melancholic electronic songs. Another great release from this small but high quality label!

Review Despite being one of the most well-known releases in The Lost Recordings series, “Body of a Crow” has never before been commercially released. Often bootlegged in poor quality, first as simple cassette copies and later as a download on peer to peer file sharing sites, many myths and falsehoods have been built up since its manufacture in 1986. What can be confirmed is that this was the first release on Chuck Collison’s Happiest Place on Earth label, which had been set up the previous year. The few cassettes that were made would have been given away to friends or sold privately to fans by Rozz or Chuck themselves. It was not otherwise available for purchase, and it is very rare indeed to come across an original copy of the cassette. Although the front cover artwork of the cassette has been circulated widely by fans and collectors, the track listing on the inside has never before been shown publically. It is because of this that there has been much confusion and debate about not only the correct track names, but also exactly how many different tracks there are. Without a doubt, “Body of a Crow” is the most accomplished and enjoyable release so far in the series and can be considered the turning point when Rozz started to focus all of his attention on his experimental recordings.
“Body of a Crow” consists of 26 separate tracks spread over two sides on the original MC release. There are twelve tracks on side A and fourteen tracks on side B. Each track is titled. More than half the songs are very short, lasting less than two minutes. This creates a fast pace. Most of the tracks combine musical and spoken word samples.
Although original cassette sleeves for “Body of a Crow” must exist, Malaise has not been able to source one. The artwork used is a direct copy made by Andreas Hofmann from Rozz’s original cassette sleeve. The front cover artwork of the original cassette is very well known. It features two black and white photographs of a dead child in a morgue. One of the photographs is a side view and the other taken from above the corpse. Between these two images is the text: “To Those unknown and uncounted persons, prematurely deprived of life by malicious assault, and whose assassins have gone unpunished…”. The cover also includes the name of the project and title of the cassette, as well confirming the year of production as 1986. The other side of the cassette sleeve is rather less well known, and Malaise Music have the great pleasure of revealing it publically for the very first time. It contains the 26 track titles and confirms that the cassette is “Brought to you by…. the happiest place on earth”. Underneath this is written “WE JUST WANT YOU TO SEE THINGS AS CLEARLY AS POSSIBLE”, which became an established slogan for the label.

Review Despite having split in 2008, THE MISSION return with “Dum Dum Bullet”, a new compilation of rare B-sides, previously unreleased demos, new songs left over from the “God Is a Bullet” sessions and a brand new extended remix of album cut “Dumb” by MISSION guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite.
The fourteen-track album features six songs originally released as extra tracks on the deleted “Keep It in the Family” EP and the “Blush” digital single, both from 2007. More intriguing to fans are seven tracks identified as new songs or Hussey demos written during the “God Is a Bullet” sessions. The compilation wraps up with Thwaite’s new seven-and-a-half-minute remix of “Dumb”. He states that he “decontructed the studio version and recreated a dancefloor monster with new sounds, loops and additional guitars”.

Review The essence of A7IE essence was born in 2002 under the name ASEPTIE as an instrumental project. From these beginnings, the project evolved into industrial and electro music, experimenting with harsh and distorted beats and dark melodic backgrounds. The first official release with vocals was launched in 2005 and on the French compilation “In This Cold Terrific Room 2” by the label La Chambre Froide. “Pray (This Agony)” was much appreciated by the audience and has been played in many clubs worldwide.
After several remixes for bands like AGONOIZE, TAMTRUM and ALIEN PRODUKT, the band took the name A7IE and was revealed to the public with the single “Messiah” , as well as many appearances on compilations like “Gothic Magazine”, “Goth Is What You Make It Volume 2” and “Extreme Sundenfall 6”. In September of 2007, A7IE launched sick music for sick people with the debut album “Distress” on the labels La Chambre Froide (France) and Rupal Records (Germany), including remixes by TAMTRUM, WYNDARDTAGE and X-FUSION. “Distress” was crowned best dark electronics album of the month.
Now, three years later, A7IE return with the new album “The Shattering”. Wounds have been dressed and there is no more place for remorse and regret. Produced by Jan L. from X-FUSION/NOISUF-X, this album contains nine loud and heavy original new songs, plus remixes from PREEMPTIVE STRIKE 1.0, AKTIVE:HATE, SADIZTIK INJEKTION, ADEONESIS. The time has come to endure the hate, take care!
Review FIRST BLACK POPE are a brand new harsh electro-goth outfit from Italy, combining hard powerful beats and malevolent and grevious atmos-fears with cutting edge painful screaming vocals about the difficult marriage between the sense of sin and a feeling of imminent catastrophy. The band released their first tracks in 2004 on London-based Cryonica Records (Cryonica Tanz v3) and has opened live for quite an impressive list of bands: HOCICO, PANKOW, DAS ICH, KIRLIAN CAMERA, ULTRAVIOLENCE, INERTIA… gaining a strong reputation for their extremely violent and blasphemous live shows with notorious bleeding penance performance and (sac)religious rituals.
FIRST BLACK POPE are the ultimate Evil Body Music outfit on the electro-industrial scene and are now ready to spread malevolent blessings amongst the new sick electro breed. Get into their “Spiritual Spiral” album for harsh powerful beats for an incredible industrial mystical experience.
Review Fans of harsh electro embraced the debut album of the trio from Mexico with passion and declared them the rightful heirs to electro gods HOCICO. But C-LEKKTOR are not resting on their laurels – they are cementing this great impression with their new ten-track CD “Tendencias Suicidas”. Fast, furious and catchy as fuck: hard electro, technoid 303 riffs and distorted vocals, pitching this album into a feeding frenzy that make amazonian piranhas green with envy. Produced and mastered by X-FUSION and including remixes by DECODED FEEDBACK, FGFC820 and ALIEN VAMPIRES.
Review Following on from the album “Le Cabaret Moi” GENEVIÉVE PASQUIER presents this seven-track EP on her own label UMB Kollektif: a 40-minute journey through Geneviéve’s thoughts and feelings. Right from the beginning she shows her ability to cross the borders between soft and severe, hypnotic and ecstatic. Geneviéve and Dan Courtman present a mixture of post-industrial electronics and 80s minimal electro, ranging from hypnotic ambience to hard driving rhythmic dance tunes, dominated by Pasquier’s breathy, wailing, militant and charismatic voice. This record comes in a beautiful tiny handcrafted package in Madame Pasquier’s favorite colours, limited to 500 copies – handle with care!
Also comes with a free copy of “10 Years of Transmission”, a representative overview of this truly fine German label, run by ex-THOROFON and GENEVIÉVE PASQUIER. Styles range from contemporary industrial music and dark minimal up to powernoise and strange pop for strange people.
Review Going down to the LARVA’s world – where the pain and the anger will fill your soul. Where the dense atmosphere and the putrid air slips into your bones. Where you will feel the fear, and the loneliness like fourteen needles stuck into your brain; fourteen Larva songs seen through some talented band’s eyes (DEADJUMP, M-VIRUS, ASSEPTIC ROOM). Each with their own vision, their own character; a mixture of darkness, sadness and aggressiveness cooked by each of the artists participating on this CD. Strictly limited edition.
Review Aggressive electro from Turkey? Sounds unlikely, I know!
SADIZTIK:INJEKTION was formed in the year 2006 by Samet Özgür. He first released tracks the “Infekted and Injekted” and “Endless 8” via free download. These songs gained some excellent reviews SADIZTIK:INJEKTION went on to release his first album “Beta Version World”. One of the first people to have faith in this project was none other than Johan Van Roy (SUICIDE COMMANDO), who released a track on his “Noise Terror 2” compilation in 2007.
Now, three years later, SADIZTIK INJEKTION releases an album that promises to have a similar impact on the scene as HOCICO’s “Odio Bajo El Alma” back in 1997. Hard and harsh distorted beats, violent vocals, heavy and dark synthlines, atmospheric dark pad and rhythmic basslines are the ingredients for “Global Genocide”, most probably the first ever dark electro album to come out from a country that has not really been on the map of harsh electro so far!
The personal anger management project TOTAL PAIN KOLLAPZ from Sweden is back with a second release. Following on from the debut album “Hell Is Not Heaven” released by the US label Hypervoxx records in 2007, Mr Pettersson gives us the brand new “Survive the Everyday”. Harsh, cold, chilling EBM from the inside of his brain lets him release the rage and frustration of daily life through music. The new album contains fifteen new songs and remixes inculding the dark underground hit “Where Are U” in a new club mix . The sound is dark and hard with a monotonous beat that would fit nicely in any horror movie as well as in any club. So let’s be fascinated by the TPK experience, or just dance our asses off to this awesome new album from this dark swede.
Review “Mental Slavery” is without a doubt the most open and club-oriented album from LEÆTHER STRIP since Claus Larsen’s return to the forefront of the electronic scene. This masterfully delivered, angry and upbeat release deals with the mental distortions triggered by our world made of fear, pain and anger. A concept perfectly captured in the album art by the talented American artist Evi Numen.
This emotional violence is translated into a roller-coaster collection of EBM songs constructed around powerful electronic sequences, punishing beats and brutal harsh vocals (as evidenced in tracks like “Turmoil”, “Your God Has Left You Tonight”, “No Entry No Exit”, “Battle Mind”, etc.) And to avoid making this dark album sound too claustrophobic and intricate, Larsen has added a little touch of experimentation through a couple of more intimate songs (“Invade My Body” or “The Bears Aren’t Sleeping Tonight”) and other slower, more moody tracks (“We Built the Walls”, the poignant “Slow”, the carrying “Dead Soil” and the grandiose yet dreamy “Abscido”) which all together reinforce the richness of this chef d’oeuvre.
Also noticeable is the evident inspiration of the classics in the likes of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”, Chopin’s “Funeral March” or songs like the pearl “My Shadow Is Your Home” and even “My Funeral”. There is also the splendid collaboration with ANDI SEX GANG who offers the perfect vocal duet to “What Have I done”, plus an acoustic version of “Songs for Pia” by I:SCINTILLA’s Jim Cookas…
“Mental Slavery” is bound to become a milestone in LEÆTHER STRIP’s prolific career, gathering in a way the best elements that have made the band’s career a success to date, but also opening new directions and exploring new grounds, reminding us of how unpredictable our favorite Danish multi-talented artist can be.
Review It is with their strong live shows, a bunch of ear-catching compilation appearances and some astounding remix work that KANT KINO have managed to create a shockwave on the EBM scene! The wait is now over and Alfa Matrix’s new Norwegian signing are ready to deliver their debut album, “We Are Kant Kino – You Are Not” straight to your sound system…
Named after a SIMPLE MINDS tune and a Berlin theatre, KANT KINO paint soundscapes based on interpretations of observed themes in everyday life, from philosophy to reality, from happiness to disaster. The Norwegian duo find their inspiration in old-school EBM and acknowledge influences from FRONT 242, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, LEÆTHER STRIP, SKINNY PUPPY and even BORGHESIA and à;GRUMH… KANT KINO also inject the distorted force of the 90s dark elektro genre and the club appeal of the 21st century Techno Body Music movement into their strong 80s EBM roots to render dark body music with distorted vocals and a strong sense for melody.
Expect hard-hitting beats, an orgy of sample manipulations, aggressive vocals and lush melodic sounds. A fresh combination of modern electronics with classic EBM and the matchless Norwegian seal of quality!
This deluxe carton box edition includes the exclusive fourteen-track bonus album “we Are Kant Kino – You Are Too” featuring thirteen remixes, in a vast variety of styles:, many of the KANT KINO tracks have been manipulated almost into completely new tunes. Ranging from beautiful electro pop and electronica, to lots of hard-hitting classic- and modern-sounding EBM and TBM remixes, from artists including LEÆTHER STRIP, IMPLANT, IONIC VISION, AMGOD, FREAKANGEL and TRAKKTOR. It also features an eclectic collection of remixes and rare appearances from some of Norway’s finest electro acts: AGREGAT, ANSTALT, ESSENCE OF MIND, INDUSTRIAL HEADS, SUBSTATE, BARIUZ and DJ ELECTHIS. And the cherry on the cake? as a fourteenth bonus track, a stomping cover of NITZER EBB’s “Control I’m Here”…
Review Voted ‘best up and coming act’ by over 700 DJs during a contest organized by Alfa Matrix, FREAKANGEL from Tallinn, Estonia, joined the label army and started completing their frontal dancefloor attack debut, mixed and engineered in Germany in the renowned X-FUSION Music Production Studio (NOISUF-X, X-FUSION, SUICIDE COMMANDO, etc).
FREAKANGEL is a mixture of aggrotech, industrial and dark electro, with a touch of alternative rock. Benefiting from the members’ astounding experience (Dmitry I – brain behind SUICIDAL ROMANCE, fr0zen – frontman of CYCLONE B, Art – ex-KAMALOKA guitarist), FREAKANGEL are ready to rock the elektro world with their unique exploding sonic cocktail…
With “The Faults of Humanity”, FREAKANGEL protest against politics and criticize religion and our money-minded society. It’s an album about all of us… how brain-dead we act in this dying world of ours, how we have lost faith in ourselves and how we prefer to believe in television nonsense and pseudo-Gods. Humans sold their fate and traded love for sex on drugs, humans are the mistake of our world, the error to delete and eradicate. With their provocative attitude, FREAKANGEL are closing in, coming your way to disturb you, shock you, shake your senses, trigger hate and get your body moving. Welcome to their world. Don’t be afraid of the monsters hiding under your bed – be afraid of FREAKANGEL!
This 2CD deluxe carton box edition contains the exclusive thirteen-track bonus album “Humanity by De-Fault” featuring the remix work of artists like PSY’AVIAH, C-LEKKTOR, SHIV-R, KANT KINO and CENTHRON.
Review One year after “Pellicules”, MIKA GOEDRIJK (THIS MORN’ OMINA/POW(D)ER PUSSY) presents the next aural view of his inner self with “Looking-Glass World”. Musically, the conceptual shift into the world of ambient IBM sounds is evident. Well-placed patterns enriched with mellow guitar slides (“Dead Air”), melancholic piano lines (“At the 11th Hour”), a distinctive (nearly) APHEX-TWIN synth (“White Sand Semantics”), archaic trumpet calls (“Lost Decade”), pounding breakbeats with pulsing sub-bass (“Rusty Swiss Army Knife”, “Le Grand Mal”), make this release a fascinating blend of contemporary electronic tones. “Looking-Glass World” is an album of otherworldly ambience entwined with a blend of acoustic sounds and sheets of sequenced patterns. A highly aesthetic sonic universe, where moods and mastery melt into warm, repetitive arrangements. Have a look into the looking-glass world.
Review MARC ALMOND’s first studio album of original self-written material for 10 years! “Varieté” is both a dramatic celebration in song of the thwarted glamour of the fag-end of the showbusiness of yesteryear, and a brave and revealing body of autobiographical songs. MARC ALMOND’s unique artistic sensibility has sustained a thirty year chart career in which time his albums and critically acclaimed live performances have amassed a large and loyal international fanbase. A fanbase who will ensure a healthy chart placing for this all new concept album. The limited edition of the album comes with a bonus acoustic CD of all-new MARC ALMOND compostions from the “Varieté” sessions.
How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising [Deluxe Edition]
Review MEMMAKER is the alter-ego of Montreal-based ISZOLOSCOPE, the brain-child of Yann Faussurier and Guillaume Nadon whose interest in EBM, noise, and industrial led to the inception of this project in 2004. After several live gigs and festival appearances and a couple demos, the band caught the attention of the now-defunct Hive Records and released “How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising” to much popular acclaim. The album quickly went out of print, and in 2010 Artoffact Records signed MEMMAKER to release an updated Deluxe Edition of the band’s debut release. This Deluxe Edition comes with extra tracks that never made it on to the first edition, as well as a full-length bonus CD featuring remixes by ROTERSAND, XOTOX, FRACTURED, CERVELLO ELETTRONICO, STENDECK, LIAR’S ROSEBUSCH and other fine electronic artists.
The album has totally remastered and sports new cover art. MEMMAKER are with out a doubt one of the new breed of electronic aritsts making harsh electronic dance music, and this album is the perfect expression of that dark, driving energy.
Review Berlin based minimal Electro band Din A Tod finally release their first long play album “The Sound Of Crash” : An intelligent examination of the themes of power and hysteria and a constant trip across all possible boundaries – a highly addictive and versatile collection of music that will feel at home in any club. Din A Tod display an enormous musical bandwidth from minimalist dance floor burners such as “Creation Crucifixion” that mingle the laconic coolness of the early 80’s with a beat-box-heavy song frame that has been stripped down to the bone, via Pop-infused Electro Clash tunes like “Carol’s Fascination” or “Tragic Blue”, to epic EBM-monsters like “Ephedrine Logic”. Cunningly, the band interweave elements of Electro Clash, New Wave, Minimal Electro and EBM into a tight net of atmospheric sounds.
“The Sound Of Crash” has that kind of very peculiar and distinctive feel that many of today’s glossy Pop productions are direly lacking. Din A Tod stand for subversive and intelligent club music…

Line Up DV8Fest is the UK’s newest alternative festival, based within the historical city of York.
Held across multiple venues, the aim of the festival is both to showcase and inspire a variety of talents from the alternative subculture, as well as highlight the historical and darker side of York.
More than just a live music event, DV8Fest will also provide a stage for many of the other elements that enrich the alternative scene. Trade stands will allow festival-goers the opportunity to enjoy other creative talents, and the addition of a second stage within The Duchess will host the best of the UK’s burlesque and sideshow performers.
