FIRE IN THE HEAD | Confessions Of A Narcissist CD (CSR120CD) £10 / £11 / £12
Shipping: Now
“Confessions Of A Narcissist” marks the final full-length release by Fire In The Head ending six years of sonic warfare with an assault of manic, self-indulgent industrial electronics. Drawing as much influence from early punk / hardcore as from industrial / power electronics, FI/T/H was conceived as a cathartic outlet to explore and ratify the delusions and social perversions resultant of psychosis and the darker side of man’s conflicted dual nature, to fan the flames which engulf the borders between obsession, compulsion, lust and need. The tracks on this release were recorded in 2007-2008 and are the last of the “short, sharp, shock” vocal tracks which Michael abandoned in favour of “epic” length industrial / ambient compositions. Features guest appearances from Nick Blinko (Rudimentary Peni) and J. Randall (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), with exclusive artwork from Blinko.

AMBIGUOUS – ‘Stone Cross’ CD (Aliens Production) – £12 / £13 / £14
This year’s frozen winter brought cold into the womb of this new Slovak Dark Ambient project – a horrifying, deeper and darker form of Slovak terror! This mystical project, in which the protagonist combines beautiful moods with destruction, combines deathly atmosphierics with deep space textures, covered in a veil of mystery. The soundtrack for a movie in another time and place… for cleansing the soul or looking into an imaginary world to escape from reality. Ambiguous take you through the darkest corners of Slovakia’s woods. Ltd x 333 copies in a metal box.
BIZARRE UPROAR – ‘Purification’ CD (Freak Animal) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
This already legendary 2009 album from Finnish Power Electronics / Noise pioneers Bizarre Uproar (now in their 17th year of existence) was originally issued in an edition of just 200 copies on Filth & Violence. This is the 2nd 2010 edition, now on the notorious Freak Animal label. The 43 minutes of music and the disc is exactly the same and the cover is the same artwork now modified to fit into a standard 4-page jewelcase.

Ltd x 330 copies in a superb full-colour, shrinkwrapped gatefold sleeve.

COFFINWORM – ‘When All Became None’ CD (Profound Lore Records)
– £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
Following their acclaimed “Great Bringer Of Night” demo, and following the destruction and debauchery they left in the wake of this year’s SXSW (where Coffinworm caused quite a fuss), “When All Became None” is a blasphemous testament to the downfall of humanity.  A diabolical offering where demented amplifier worship sludge doom and black metal  form an unholy alliance to offer an album which literally sounds like death, doom, and destruction, and is inspired by imminent death, poser disposal, and the destruction of Christ. A sonic ritual to invert 2000 years of Christian teaching in a 45-minute span.
CONTAGIOUS ORGASM – ‘Thick Skinned’ CD (Industrial Recollections / Freak Animal)
– £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
Contagious Orgasm’s 3rd tape release (SSSM, 1989) presents 2 long tracks coming in at around 45 minutes of playing time. Excellent experimental industrial sounds by the Japanese cult band. Those who heard the previous two tapes re-issued by Industrial Recollections, can’t go wrong with this one! “I highly recommend headphones, alternatively listen though speakers at loud volume. Give priority to aural senses.”

DER ARBEITER – ‘Holzwege’ CD (Ur Muzik) – £11 / £12 / £13
Following the acclaimed debut album “Reflejos del Sol” (2004, Divine Comedy Records), Der Arbeiter release their second opus, “Holzwege”. Ten songs conceptually inspired by the work of Chilean writer Miguel Serrano, and his conception of Minne (“a love at once illicit and morally elevating, passionate and disciplined, humiliating and exalting, human and transcendent”). In musical terms, Holzwege is an alchemical mix of electro-folk with a slight mediterranean taste, which gives it a unique and distinctive sound that moves away from the well known clichés of the neofolk-martial scene. An original and inspiring work, made in Chile, arising from the ruins. Digipak. Polish import.

DUO NOIR – ‘Sintra’ CD (Tursa) – £11 / £12 / £13

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

EX.ORDER – ‘The Law Of Heresy’ CD (Industrial Recollections / Freak Animal)
– £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
Re-issue of famous 1997 tape (Body And Blood Exploration / Durga Tapes) from the P.E. alter-ego of Inade: Ex.Order. “The Law Of Heresy” presents the band’s gloomy and dark approach to German power electronics. Throbbing echoes, drenched and suffocating textured atmospheres. Oscillating synthesizers, vocals, samples and loops. Includes collaborations with Dagda Mor and Dies. Original artwork used and sound mastered from the original DAT tape showing the clarity and power as it originally was!

JAMES JOHNSTON / PHILIPPE PETIT – ‘Fiends With A Face’ CD (Dirter) – £12 / £13 / £14
An hommage to the golden era of horror movies. Our two fiends wanted to conjure up blood-curdling and haunting soundscapes, playing with unsettling ambiances in order to create a contemporary soundtrack for those who like to be frightened. Philippe Petit is interested in soundtracks, even if he creates original music he’d rather be introduced as a “musical travel agent” than a composer. James Johnston is the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of influential UK band Gallon Drunk. He also plays with Krautrock legends Faust and was a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds from 2003-2008, (originally touring with the band in 1994). Ltd x 1000 copies in a beautiful full colour gatefold sleeve with a printed inner sleeve.
JARL – ‘Fragile Confrontation’ CD (Annihilvs) – £11 / £12 / £13
This Swedish Dark Ambient sound sculptor (who has already shown his mettle as a member of IRM) has also released albums for such noted labels as Malignant Records, Autarkeia and Segerhuva. “Fragile Confrontation” finds Eric Jarl looking back into the sparse, cold isolationist landscapes of “Sealed Void”, while instilling an undercurrent of impending violence, like a blade slowly moving toward flesh in tense, scraping frame-by-frame action. Metallic drones and static waves slide against each other as the confrontation between steel and skin comes to a mind-numbing collision. Mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D’Etre).

JASON CRUMER – ‘First Two Records On CD’ CD (Freak Animal) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
You missed the first two vinyl albums of just about the best American harsh noise out there? The sold out LPs on RRRecords (“Future With No Chance”, 2007) and Harsh Head Rituals (“Burning In Hell”, 2008) are now collected onto one full length CD. Check out the total analogue destruction, tape manipulations, frantic vocals and infernal rumbling noises with amazing textures. Don’t miss out this time!

KAITEN – ‘Turning Of The Heavens’ CD (Annihilvs) – £11 / £12 / £13
The debut album from Kaiten, the collaborative project of Erik Jarl (IRM, Jarl) and Lirim Cajani (Institut, Operativ Permanent). As would be expected from an alliance of these two Swedish artists, Kaiten is a foray into dark, dense, and superb harsh electronics. Taking their name from the infamous Japanese manned torpedoes, a submarine counterpart of the Kamikaze planes of WWII, Kaiten submerges the listener in a world of claustrophobic, shuddering tension. Distorted echoes of mayhem resonate against the hull of a steel coffin speeding toward certain destruction. Grating, shouted vocals, radio intercepts, and bombastic rhythms are crushed together to represent an inevitable fiery death and a hero’s grave in the cold, crushing depths of the Pacific Ocean, all in the name of imperious glory. Ltd x 500 copies.
LARK BLAMES – ‘The Reins Of Life’ CD (Ur Muzik) – £11 / £12 / £13
Lark Blames was founded in 2005 by Lloyd James (Naevus) and Marc Blackie (Sleeping Pictures). While the initial recordings collected on their acclaimed debut album “Chimney” (Old Europa Cafe, 2006) are improvisatory in nature, the new body of work on their second, “The Reins of Life”, constitutes a far more considered and assured collection. The album represents a significant step forward for the duo, who continue to defy categorisation while producing their most masterful and accessible work to date. Live drums and bass provide driving rhythms, alongside brass, acoustic guitar and programmed percussion. Aleatory techniques collide with atmospheric layers, musique concrete meets retro synth textures and the familiar Lark Blames lunacy make an appearance too. 6-panel digipak. Polish import.
MARTIN BLADH – ‘Study For A Theater Of Cruelty’ CD (Annihilvs) – £11 / £12 / £13
This is the much-anticipated solo release by the genius frontman of Swedish industrial legends IRM. Aktionist, provocateur, visionary: Martin Bladh has composed an eerie score for impossible performance art, incorporating sparse, stringed drones and chilling atmospheres similar to Bladh’s work with performance artist Bo I. Cavefors. Jewelcase edition. Ltd x 300 copies.

S.P.I.T.E. – ‘Violence’ LP (Harbinger Sound) – £15 / £18 / £21
A limited vinyl reissue for just about the most scarce release from the legendary Broken Flag catalogue (BF2). Originally released as a cassette back in early 1982, ‘Violence’ is a solo recording carried out by Gary Mundy (Ramleh, Skullflower, Toll). These recordings were captured just before the formation of Ramleh, and his later solo workings as Kleistwahr. Simple, crude and effective Power Electronics created with the same equipment that would be used on those later classic recordings. ‘Violence’ is an obvious template for those later works and is as uncompromising as anything that followed. A chilling historical artifact that can still wipe the floor with most of today’s pretenders. As the master tape for this recording has long gone, this album was dumped down from an original cassette copy and is both raw and untreated, just as you would have heard it had you brought the tape back then. Ltd x 200 copies and is housed in an ink-stamped sleeve. ACT FAST!!!

TABATA MITSURU – ‘Mankind Spree’ CD (Fourth Dimension) – £11 / £12 / £13
“Mankind Spree” is the latest solo album by Tabata Mitsuru (Acid Mothers Temple, Zeni Geva), which is every bit as good as one may expect from an artist who has the power and vision to soundtrack time folding in on itself whilst simultaneously pushing the psychedelic envelope into realms where melodies, static white crackle and overflowing rivers of electronics converge like the very points where sanity opens its welcoming hands to madness. Featuring several guests, including Acid Mothers Temple’s synth player, Higashi Hirosh, “Mankind Spree” comprises seven cuts that cough ‘n’ splutter over angular rhythms, suck up noise as colourful and beautiful as a perfect rainbow, hit back with some melodic scree and never stray too far from Tabata’s keen ear for those rather more avant-strained sensibilities.

YEN POX – ‘Blood Music’ 2 x CD (Malignant Records) – £15 / £17 / £19
15 years after it’s original release, and out of print for almost as long, Yen Pox’ Blood Music has finally been re-issued. Regarded by many as a benchmark recording within the realm of dark ambient music, this deluxe 2CD edition contains a completely re-mastered and remixed version of “Blood Music” plus a previously unreleased track on disc 1, as well as the first cassette and various compilation and 7” releases on disc 2. Combined, the discs offer well over two hours of colossal, mind bending atmospherics of the highest order, the sounds radiating outwards into a sprawling horizon of sulfur dark skies, then descending into a relentless maelstrom of shifting textures, treacherous reverberations, and endless, sinister drift. Packaged in a luxurious 8 panel DVD digipak, with completely new design by Andre Coelho (Sektor 304), this is the perfect marriage of both music and packaging, and will further solidify Blood Music’s status as one of the all time classic dark ambient releases.

BETACLOUD – ‘Lunar Monograph’ CD (Laughing Bride Media)
– £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

Latest disc of blissed out soft focus dronemusic from this longtime aQ fave. After past collaborations with Lull as well as Aidan Baker, Lunar Monograph is the first disc we’ve head from BC on his own, and it’s definitely a divine bit of ethereal and ephemeral drift. Field recordings are deftly woven into soft swirling shimmering tones, guitars are spidery and delicate, spinning crystalline webs of hushed melody… pealing tones, and barely there melodies, drifting weightlessly through a field of minimal effects, and slow shifting whirs, as well as some mysterious field recordings, that make the end of the record feel like you’ve just come out of a trance, and found yourself back in the real world, which is not all that far off the mark. So nice.” (Aquarius). Mastered by James Plotkin. Digipak.
GRUNT – ‘Petturien Rooli’ CD (Freak Animal) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

The brand new full length CD of Grunt! Presenting a new side of Grunt, this album contains no harsh noise, but is an innovative mixture of fierce power electronics with echoes of early 80s Ramleh and Sutcliffe Jügend, mixed with experimental organic noise influences a’la Organum, Ferial Confine, to heavy dominant euro PE/industrial attacks to rhythmic elements and metal percussion linking towards Vivenza, Test Dept. and Militia. Exclusively Finnish language lyrics and samples, with themes related to the history of Finland since early turbulent years of civil war to post WWII atmosphere. 64 minutes with 9 songs presenting wide variety of moods, sound sources, compositions, approaches, blended into album that could be said to be unique, even in the extensive Grunt discography!
GRUNT / CLOAMA – ‘The Nausea Of Humanity’ CD (Freak Animal)
– £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

Extreme Power Electronics from the two Finnish masters! Includes both acts together in studio sessions from 1999, mail collaborations, live collaborations from 2001 and also includes solo tracks from both acts. JARL – ‘Sealed Void’ CD (Annihilvs / Force Of Nature) – £11 / £12 / £13

Eric Jarl has already taken the world of dark electronic music by storm as one half of IRM, hailed the world over as the new leaders of the Swedish noise-industrial underground. With his solo project, he has once again risen to the throne and stands strong as a force to be reckoned with. “Sealed Void” takes the listener drifting past dying suns, through black holes and beyond, to a place where the universe takes human form.
MARTIN BLADH – ‘Dirge: The Peter Sotos Files’ CD (Freak Animal)
– £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

Martin Bladh (IRM, Skin Area) says about this Noise album: “While I was working on the Swedish translation of Peter’s excellent book Selfish, Little: The Annotated Lesley Ann Downey, I found that i couldn’t get enough of this unsafe, highly personal world, and got the ugly idea to make my own piece based upon it… I asked Peter for the permission to do a recording centered on his private universe. He agreed and sent me a load of sound and video clips, which he’d collected and put into context. I guess it’s fair to call this album a conceptual piece”. Produced by Erik Jarl (IRM).
MUSLIMGAUZE – ‘Armsbazzar’ CD (Essence Music) – £14 / £15 / £16

“Armsbazzar” investigates both released and unreleased selected recordings from the intense period of 1994 and 1997. Included are the out-of-print “Hebron Massacre” and “Gulf Between Us” singles, plus two inedit, highly percussive tracks taken from the recording sessions of the mythic, yet still unreleased and unheard, “Zamindar” album. Presented in a custom 6-panel digisleeve package with full colour poster – adorned by the highly original artwork from the fantastic Iranian visual artist Mohammad Fadaei. Mastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D’Etre) and limited to 999 hand-numbered copies.
PROPERGOL – ‘Ground Proximity Warning System’ CD (Annihilvs /
Stridulum Recordings
) – £11 / £12 / £13

Epic addition to French electronic sound terrorist Propergol’s impressive discography! More than two years in the making, GPWS represents a mammoth undertaking of research and sampling. Focusing solely on the theme of airline disasters, and featuring a more densely somber, ultra-dark ambience than prior albums, this is a recording which will chill the listener to the bone. The fear is palpable, the panic is imminent, and the ground is rushing up all too quickly. Brace yourselves for impact, this is by far Propergol’s finest release to date. “You’ll never fly again”. Ltd x 500 copies.
YOB – ‘The Great Cessation’ CD (Profound Lore Records)

The heaviest, darkest, most oppressive sounding and varied Yob album to date. With the behemoth-like monolithically paced traditional “cosmic” doom sounds that have helped define Yob’s sound over the years, Yob also incorporate new elements that give “The Great Cessation” a pummeling energetic vibe like no other Yob album, while at the same time delivering even more plunging abysmal dirge-like histrionics that go so far as to even render moments on “The Great Cessation” as blasphemous and evil. In true Yob tradition, the album ends with the 20-minute title track, which ends the album in that surging victorious moment; in the most epic of moments. Digipak.
