ARGHEID – ‘Gottloses Unterfangen’ CD (SkullLine) – £11 / £12 / £13
Debut CD from one-man project Argheid, founded in 2008 by Mathias Suska. The music describes life and death with all its highs and deepest abysses, interpreted through classical compositions assigned to the Neoclassical and Martial Industrial genres. Bombastic tunes in the style of L’Effet C’est Moi, Wappenbund, Argentum, March of the Heroes or Waffenruhe. Sit down, put on this CD and enjoy these sounds in the long dark winter months. Ltd x 400 hand-numbered copies.
CELER – ‘Vestiges Of An Inherent Melancholy’ LP (Blackest Rainbow) – £15 / £18.50 / £22
Second vinyl LP from this formerly active American duo of Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long. “Vestiges Of An Inherent Melancholy” features 2 sides of unearthed recordings that were created between December 2006 and July 2008. The duo create some truly beautiful drone works with their use of an organic and electronic palette of instrumentation; cello, violin, pipe organ, electronics, tape, field recordings, samples, and mixing board. This really is a standout side from Celer, pulling together their variety of sounds to make a heart breaking collage of sounds falling between beautiful dream tones and heavier dark moments. The album pushes Celer further to the front of modern minimal compostion, creating some of the finest and most beautiful, fragile drone records around. Ltd x 500 copies in thick old style hardback jackets, pressed on 140 gram vinyl.

DEATH IN JUNE – ‘Peaceful Snow / The Maverick Chamber – Totenpop Versions‘ 7″ (Extremocidente)
– £11 / £12 / £13
The two songs here are the first new DIJ material to come to light since “The Rule of Thirds”. These new tracks offer not only the same radical departure from more complex song arrangements as on the previous album but this time also a departure from the use of acoustic guitar. Instead the instrument chosen to accompany Douglas Pearce’s voice is the piano, played by Miro Snejder. Some might be tempted to say that this is a new direction for Death In June yet we have to disagree, as for almost 30 years this has been a ship that has maintained its course against all odds. Meant to coincide with the 2nd leg of the 30th anniversary tour, this is the way both songs will be witnessed live and the way these were originally written. Ltd x 880 copies on purple vinyl and presented in an embossed cover with debossed logo. Includes 4 exclusive postcards.

DOLORISM – ‘Wandering In Eternal City’ CD (Reminiscences Production) – £11 / £12 / £13
Dolorism is a French Dark Ambient / Industrial project based on various inspirations, gnosis/kabbale mix and Kult cosmology. In an eternal and nightmarish city, survivors of hell, spirits of dead bodies on battlefields and simply tortured human souls are wandering in a world of despair and chaos. Mixed and mastered by Lord Evil (Melek-Tha), who also features on 1 track. 78 minutes of music. Ltd x 300 copies.
GNOD / A MIDDLE SEX – ‘Split’ LP (Blackest Rainbow) – £15 / £18.50 / £22
Split LP from fellow Manchester weirdos A Middle Sex and Gnod. Gnod follow on from some killer releases over the last couple of years, with Bong, White Hills etc. ‘Why Don’t You Smile Like The Other Children?’ opens with hazy strings and cosmicly far out voices, this slow groove packs a multi-coloured burst of rhythmic psychedelic vibes. On the flip side, A Middle Sex take up duties of doing some equally psychedelic, but in a completely different style. Their side is titled ‘Polytheism’ and is essentially made up of two tracks, the opener is a short wild spaced out cosmic synth piece, which is swiftly followed by a main 10 minute piece of layered drums and percussion, swirling electronics, distorted chanted vocals. Their side is all about the rhythm. Pressed on 140 gram virgin vinyl. Ltd x 500 copies.

MERZBOW – ‘Lop Lop’ CD (Rustblade) – £11 / £12 / £13
Masami Akita began to bring about his own brand of noise music in 1979, and since then been constantly changing the very foundation his sound is built on. His music is an interpretation of very complex ideologies imbued with a violently non-traditional, but ultimately transparent sense of beauty. On “Lop Lop” Merzbow takes a step in a new direction from his recent releases and focuses on manipulating sounds and harsh beats in a way meant to make a new mark on the face of his well known style. The synths and guitars scream and sing in a way which allows them to be heard through all the oppressive noise, often returning to ferocious power electronics sounds which clearly define the anger of this new release. Nicely packaged in a snapcase, housed in a printed card envelope with sticker. Features original painting by Akita with artwork from Alessia Catanuto.

SKULLFLOWER – ‘Carved Into Roses / Infinityland / Singles’ 3 x CD (VHF Records) – £18 / £20 / £22
Reissue of two classic Skullflower albums onto CD, with a third disc collecting four 7″ singles: ‘White Fang #2’, ‘Choady Foster’, ‘The Art Of’, and ‘Village Sorting’. Recorded together and originally conceived as a double CD back in 1995, “Carved Into Roses” and “Infinityland” find the band making a transition from the heavy riffs of their early days to a more free-form sound that continues to this day to drive leader Matthew Bower’s many guises (Skullflower, Sunroof!, Hototogisu etc). Sporting a revamped lineup of Bower, Stuart Dennison, Russell Smith, and Phillip Best, the band whacks away at both styles simultaneously, with lumbering hooks meeting rainbows of coruscating feedback. The ‘Singles’ disc collects both sides (over 50 minutes) of the EPs that were released around the same time and made largely by the same lineup. Released in a luxury tri-fold heavy art paper folio printed by Stumptown Printers with obi strip. Very limited copies in stock!!!

VISTHIA – ‘In Aeternum Deleti’ CD (ATMF) – £11 / £12 / £13
There was a time when extreme music was not a mere shouting exercise, but a Vision, an idea of how to develop the magma of creation. Hailing from Italy, Visthia confirm the innovative attitude and contribution this scene is giving to reawakening the daring attitude that scene seems to have lost. Where others merely stopped to investigate, Visthia crossed the Rubicon, passing through the most extreme metal hemispheres to the industrial fields, resulting in the Black Powernoise genre. Told through the Latin tongue, the Occult Tradition becomes untold. The platter is enriched by the contribution of the internationally renowned artist Nicola Samori, known for his unique style, bringing modern decay into the crystalized perfection of the ancient. File beside Dødheimsgard, Diabolicum, MZ.412 and Aborym.

NEST – ‘Trail Of The Unwary’ CD (Corvus Records) – £11 / £12 / £13

Eerie, acoustic, calm Nordic ambient/folk music played on the kantele, giving the music a medieval touch. Beautiful sounds dedicated to nature and inspired by her beauty… and of legends untold. “A hidden pool amidst the woods where the otters come to play, an owl’s faint call echoing through the woods, sparkling waterfalls and vast snow-covered landscapes where the reindeer folk and wolves hold their domain. These are only some of the things with the atmosphere Nest strives to capture”.Though Finnish, the music of Nest has a Celtic feel and even reminds of Clannad in places!

SIMULACRA – ‘There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood’ CD (ConSouling Sounds
/ No Angels Productions) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

Nearly 45 minutes of dark droning soundscapes, where once in a while lighter ambient passages penetrate the darkness. “Giant plateaus are slowly moving, reverberating the air with deep subterranean drones, flowing and ebbing in slow waves taking you a little deeper all the time in this sonic experience. Inside a Void is Belgian dark ambient act Simulacra back with red drones from a fountain filled with blood… There is a Fountain Filled With Blood does sound deeper and wider which makes the atmosphere more intense, darker and oppressive. These graphic drones are slowly moving as they are heavy in weight under their monolithic structure. Simulacra’s dark ambient is very minimal in approach as the changes are just coming very slow, but its progression is eminent. Its mastermind Miguel Boriau does take his time to let the sounds evolve. Deep rumbling drones with a haunted atmosphere reflecting feelings of sadness and solitude with sometimes a trace of melody. The finest and darkest drones for dreamers who are awake” (Gothtronic). Ltd x 500 copies in an outsize sleeve.
