LULL & BETA CLOUD & ANDREW LILES | Circadian Rhythm Disturbance Reconfigured CD (CSR139CD) £9 / £10 / £11

Shipping: Now
From England to the United States and back again… it all started as a simple drone project between LULL (aka Mick Harris of Scorn, ex-Napalm Death), and BETA CLOUD (aka Carl Pace), based on the concept of how insomnia can effect your thought patterns. Billows of powerful bass drones set to indistinct flourishes of temporary insanity, it was released as a limited 3″ CD in 2008. Now proudly presented in a deluxe matt digipak edition on cold spring, the original track is there, but also included is a fierce remix track by none other than legendary sound artist Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND), with stunning new packaging and artwork. Fans of Lull and Beta Cloud will really sink their teeth into this one; what Liles has created here is not a simple remix but a raging, deconstruction as only he can do. A captivating listen for dark ambient and harsh noise fans alike.

KREUZWEG OST | Gott Mit Uns CD (CSR41CD) £8 / £9 / £10

Shipping: Now
2nd monumental album from Kreuzweg Ost for Cold Spring, headed by Michael Gregor (SUMMONING / AMESTIGON). “We see a light through the dim and cloudy shadows of our existence. In the electric field between. Total faith and desperation, hope and doubt, eternal bliss and delusion, we walk an unsure path to an unknown end. When the clouds open, the light navigates. The loud music of the sky: pounding drums surrounded by trumpets and swirling voices echoing from a distance unknown”. Kreuzweg Ost rises again with God on their side. “Gott Mit Uns” combines a variety of different musical styles: from Martial Industrial to Classical sounds, from deep Ambient to cinematic anthems. These musical prayers are made for those seeking salvation.

HELDENTOD | The Ghost MachineCD (CSR131CD) £8 / £9 / £10

Shipping: Now
Heldentod began in 2005 as an outlet for research into the little-known corners of 20th-Century history. While previous recordings whiplashed between the traditional and the experimental, Heldentod’s latest album leaves behind its neofolk and martial-industrial roots to focus solely on electronics, but maintains the fundamental sense of composition found in earlier incarnations. Although now primarily influenced by death industrial and power electronics, Heldentod looks to create the most suitable expression of its key themes, including ghosts, ancestor worship, human sacrifice, neolithic fertility rights, Iron Age religion, mediæval literature, unseen dimensions, inhuman intelligences, and all manner of Forteana.

ANEMONE TUBE – ‘Death Over China’ CD (Silken Tofu / Topheth Prophet) – £11 / £12 / £13
“Death over China” is a retaliation of nature against mankind. It is also a dedication to our untamed curiosity for the essence of death and our secret death wish. In China`s uncompromising economical and social development we see demonstrated, how we – even with the immolation of our health, environment and tradition – are the servants to material progress. Though we are aware of the approaching ecological disaster, we hazard the consequences. Sustainability is sacrificed on the altar of egoist quest for happiness. We consume, we destroy, we thrive, we conjure. Using field recordings, collected in Nanjing and Shanghai,, Anemone Tube creates an unsettling yet intriguing, apocalyptic soundtrack with a sinister atmosphere and a depressive undertone – a unique blend of dark ambient, post industrial and power electronics. Mastered by James Plotkin. Ltd x 731 hand-numbered copies in an A5 10-panel folder with black & gold print.

ANEMONE TUBE – ‘Dream Landscape’ CD & DVD (Silken Tofu) – £15 / £16 / £17
On this new release Anemone Tube creates massive ambient / noise soundscapes. The sounds are pulsating, drowning and floating, tormenting and caressing – all culminating in a haunting sonic experience. ‘Dream Landscape’ is the first part of the ‘Suicide Series’. To this field recordings made in China provide a conceptional basis. ‘Dream Landscape’ is a concept album of fierce malignant power. Mastered by James Plotkin. The special edition bonus DVD is a collaborative work between the Brazilian video artist Gustavo De Lacerda and Anemone Tube. The work, entitled 1515, is a conceptual experimental film made in Rotterdam. The soundtrack is based on real-time field recordings made in Nanjing and Shanghai. Special limited edition of 200 copies in an A5 10-panel folder with black & gold print.

LE REVERS SANGLANT – ‘Un Combat Perdu D’Avance’ CD (Twilight Records) – £11 / £12 / £13
The winter of 2004 marked the birth of the Le Revers Sanglant. The initial goal of the project was to create a minimalist audio concept with cold and martial atmospheres. During the Fall of 2010 the music and concept had begun to take on a more aggressive sound. The realisation of this new focus is attributed to ‘Un Combat Perdu d’Avance’, representing feelings of uprising and melancholy. Taking the subject of war as backdrop, we can find an ubiquitous death for those young soldiers. Fate wins. Taken into battle, whatever happens, they won’t have to miss courage to face up their destiny. Recorded with despairing energy and limited means, this album serves to translate the echo of those young souls in respite. Digipak.
LYDIA LUNCH & PHILIPPE PETIT – ‘In Comfort’ Picture Disc LP (Comfortzone) – £13 / £16.50 / £20
This is the second time in less than 12 months we’ve found Petit working with an (in)famous female vocalist, trailing last years chilling 7″ with Cosey Fanni Tutti, and this outing is no less unnerving. ‘Return To Backworld’ is a sombre instrumental opener for piano and glitched electronics, before ‘Requiescat In Comfort’ introduces Lydia’s croaked vocal over droning, discordant strings and bleak, glooming drones. The centrepiece is surely the sumptuous ten minute composition ‘Black Spring’, entering a nether region of slowly waking symphonic strings and 4th world ambience woven around Lydia’s dystopian narrative. Full colour picture disc in a PVC sleeve. Ltd x 500 copies.
MACHINIST NOISE ASSAULT – ‘Self Help’ CD (Silken Tofu) – £11 / £12 / £13

‘Self Help’ is the first official album by Machinist Noise Assault, culminating after years of dabbling with different styles of drone, noise, and industrial since its inception in 1998. Lyrically, ‘Self Help’ is a scornful examination of various forms of self abuse / neglect, and severe internal struggle based around the concept of one being one’s own worst enemy. Sonically, expect to hear densely layered Power Electronics, standing out from the usual ‘Set it and forget it’-style of its peers with less focus being applied to outright abrasiveness, and more being put on texture, development, and atmospheric elements. Mastered by Thomas Garrison (Control). Ltd x 300 copies in a 7″ gatefold black card folder with silver print.

NORD – ‘Electronic Initiation’ CD (Kinky Music Institute) – £20 / £21 / £22
EXTREMELY RARE! An original 1999 release from the defunct and highly-collectable label of K2. Nord, founded in 1979, is one of the oldest Japanese projects in the field of experimental and noise music. “Electronic Initiation” was the only full-length CD by Nord, consisting of three lengthy tracks, which are a mixture of psychedelic electronic and hard noise, for a special kind of extreme meditation! New & sealed. Ltd x 300 copies.

All Nord Titles

NORD – ‘L.S.D.’ LP (PCP Records) – £15 / £18.50 / £22
This is the reissue of the 1984 LP, originally issued on LSD Records. L.S.D. features rough hewn sheets of ominous yet trippy pulsating textural electronics with an obvious debt to the stark teutonic soundworlds of Kluster and Seesselberg. Any glimmers of transcendence are immediately offset by a deadzone ambience that reeks of Maurizio Bianchi. If this is cosmic, than it’s the cosmos as viewed from the vantage point of a burned out cinder drifting into entropy. Nord was, for this recording, legendary Japanese Noise artist Hiroshi Oikawa. ORTHODOX – ‘Baal’ CD (Alone Records) – £11 / £12 / £13
4th album from the Spanish Avant-Doom trio. Like previous efforts, the new Orthodox album moves again towards a search of spirituality and the sense of innovation that is part of their music. This time the band has concentrated all its strength and sound imagery into these 5 pieces. The band explores its roots to leave behind the search for alterations in their musical language and the emerging psychedelic and progressive atmospheres that appeared in their previous work “Sentencia”. This work sums up all the attributes picked by the band during their career, places them in a new starting point and gives them a spectacular projection because their sound and musical ideas have yet to travel far beyond. “Orthodox were a metal band once, but they have become much bigger. At this point, everything they have in common with doom music or any other style of metal music is the sense of spirituality and their search of catharsis through rites” (The Wire).

SEKTOR 304 – ‘Subliminal Actions’ CD (Malignant Records) – £11 / £12 / £13
The follow-up to the highly acclaimed “Soul Cleansing” CD finds Portugal’s Sektor 304 expanding on all aspects of their debut, once again channeling the essence of the old school guardians (Test Dept, SPK, Crash Worship), while simultaneously exploring new, uncharted territory. “Subliminal Actions” unleashes a cacophonous whirlwind of buzz saw grind, loops, power tools, and scraping, junk metal debris, clashing head on with assertive tribal percussion, clanging oil barrel rhythms, and industrial clamor resonating over a sprawling, post-apocalyptic wasteland. ” Subliminal Actions” not only compliments “Soul Cleansing”, but takes the Sektor 304 sound to new heights. A delivering yet striking record sure to solidify their standing as one of premier, truly industrial acts in operation today. 6 panel digipak, mastered by James Plotkin.

STRICTA DOCTRINA – ‘Stricta Doctrina’ CD (Twilight Records) – £11 / £12 / £13
Stricta Doctrina is a one man project born in summer 2010. Between November 2010 and September 2011, 9 stunning Martial Industrial / Apocalyptic songs were composed. The music is inspired by history, the rise and fall of empires. This is also a critique of the modern society, decay taking more and more place, with a return to tradition in the metaphysic sense being the only remedy to that. For fans of Triarii, Arditi, etc… Digipak.
TEMPLE MUSIC – ‘Soon You Will All Die And Your Lives Will Have Been As Nothing’ CD (Silken Tofu) – £11 / £12 / £13

‘Soon You Will All Die And Your Lives Will Have Been As Nothing’ is the new album by the UK-based psychedelic/drone/ambient project Temple Music. Stephen Robinson and Alan Trench (known from the dark folk project Orchis) skillfully combine a wide range of acoustic and electronic instruments, field recordings and drones with spoken word, rhythm and chaos, resulting into one long avant-garde soundscape. The vocals are both comforting and unsettling and contribute to an overall magical atmosphere. Introspective and spiritual as well as powerful and energetic, ‘Soon You Will All Die And Your Lives Will Have Been As Nothing’ will entice the ears and the soul. Ltd x 300 copies in an A5 heavy card gatefold folder.

THY CATAFALQUE – ‘Roka Hasa Radio’ CD (Epidemie Records) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50
Hungarian act Thy Catafalque was born in 1998 as an epic black metal band. Since that time it has progressed to its actual, very original music that can be described as avant-garde post black metal / ambient / folk. Founders Tamás Kátai and János Juhász invited nine other musicians as guests to record a very unusual 70-minute album. Hungarian male vocals are complimented by the beautiful ethereal female voice of guest singer Ágnes Tóth (The Moon and the Nightspirit). 2nd edition in jewelcase.

TROUM – ‘Mare Idiophonika’ CD (Silken Tofu) – £11 / £12 / £13

“Mare Idiophonika” (‘The Self-Playing Ocean’) is the new album by the German duo Troum and contains the studio-version of the live programme Troum performed in 2007, with a new ending added later. Using bass, guitars, metal objects, voices and choirs and for the first time also singing-bowls and ‘dry’ beats Troum creates yet another magnificent journey into unknown dimensions. Its sounds are stunning and enchanting, leaving one in a state of bewilderment while exploring the world of the unconscious. With its compelling drones and haunting atmosphere Mare Idiophonika is a masterpiece of transcendental soundscapes. It is a mind-blowing dreamy and moving experience, reaching out towards the inner self and beyond. European Edition. Ltd x 500 copies in an A5 6-panel folder with black & silver print.

VOMIR – ‘La Puissance De L’Erreur’ 7″ (Dot Dot Dot Music) – £10 / £11 / £12
French HNW hero Vomir presents 2 tracks of crushing noise wall of absolute nothingness… just a seemingly infinite maelstrom of extreme low-end rumbling, severe unchanging distortion, crunchy oceanic filth, and abyssal static that Vomir forges into a primordial wall of black frequency chaos. PVC sleeve. Ltd x 300 copies on black & brown marbled vinyl.

WOLF & WINTER – ‘When The Cold Earth Rests In Silence’ CD (Twilight Records) – £11 / £12 / £13
Wolf & Winter’s second album is still in the vein of their first album’s raw black metal, but moves a step forward into depressive black metal, combining ambient strings and bombastic drums from the first pagan metal and using a grimmer repertoire of black metal vocals. Not quite post black metal, it uses some elements of this genre to combine the first age of Bathory and Hellhammer with Ulver, Burzum and even Agalloch. To stand in the roots of primitive and raw music is why this second album does not completely move forward into a more modern concept of black metal, but this doesn’t mean it’s stuck in the past. This way, the music gains more solidness and independence in a genre which has been so done, so constructed, so reconstructed and at last, so repeated. Digipak.

COLLAPSAR – ‘Beyond The Event Horizon’ CD (Malignant Records) – £11 / £12 / £13

Malignant presents another rising star within the dark ambient scene, this time in the form of French act Collapsar. With their debut CD, Collapsar transports the listener on an epic journey deep into the cosmos, forging a path across a vast, inky void, and steering a course around a roiling galactic core of hyper-dense stars and black holes. The sound is epic, expansive, and most of all, HEAVY. There is beauty and tranquility within these realms, but there is no light – just massive, pulsating textures coalescing into shimmering drones, rippling sound waves, and billowing, multi-dimensional layers of powerful dark energy. “Beyond the Event Horizon” is without question, dark ambient in its purest form and one of the more genre defining releases of the last several years. A must for fans of Inade, Lustmord etc. In 6 panel digipak, with design by eyelyft.

CONTROL – ‘Deadly Sins’ CD (Malignant Records) – £11 / £12 / £13

Another pulverizing display of power from Thomas Garrison’s Control. 7 tracks, thematically centered around the 7 deadly sins (with each track clocking in at 7 minutes), originally issued an extremely limited release (just 50 copies!) for the Elektroanschlag 11 Festival earlier this year. There is no atonement here, nor redemption offered. Just cold, jarring currents of massively built power electronics and horror filled death industrial, full of clamoring factory debris, razor sharp sheets of sonic violence, and grisly metallic grind, rounded out with Garrison’s trademark vocal devastation. Digipak with design by John Balistreri (Slogun).

FALSE MIRROR – ‘Derelict World’ CD (Malignant Records) – £11 / £12 / £13

After three years of intense work, Dark Ambient disciple False Mirror returns with his third full-length journey. With the timeless drones of his debut “Chronostatic Scenes” and the icy soundscapes on his highly acclaimed sophomore masterpiece “North” still resonating through space, solo artist Tobias Hornberger delivers “Derelict World”, his most massive and epic undertaking so far. Dark drones, frostbitten soundscapes and warm vibrating tones from the deep bowels of the earth. From the sheer force of a tornado set loose to the beguiling calm within the eye of the storm, “Derelict World” is a 74 minute long sonic journey into a desolated, depopulated world. In a digipak containing a 20 page booklet with a conceptually linked short story written by author and journalist Bjørn Springorum. The album contains a number of hidden messages that lead to a rewarding “Bonus World” on falsemirror.de. “One of the best dark ambient releases in recent years” (Orkus).

FEAR FALLS BURNING – ‘Dead Of Night’ 7″ (Dot Dot Dot Music) – £10 / £11 / £12

Founded in 2005 as an exercise in minimalism and as a conscious counterpoint to the refined complexity of vidnaObmana, Fear Falls Burning has gradually turned into a musical meditation on purity and subdued power. As part of this transformation, the guitar has evolved from a mere instrument into a veritable shamanic tool for trance. In a sense, Dirk Serries, who has held a deep fascination for the subtle power of drone music ever since embarking on his personal odyssey in 1984, is returning to his roots here: FFB presents listeners with a primevally physical experience that is in turns contemplative, rhythmically agitated and thunderous. Ltd x 300 copies on purple splatter vinyl.

GOSPEL OF THE FUTURE – ‘Gospel Of The Future’ CD (Epidemie Records) – £10.50 / £11.50 / £12.50

Eight heavy, gloomy sludge / metal / hardcore evil compositions from this Czech act, which will bring pleasure to all lovers of Neurosis, Boris or High on Fire. English graphic designer Chris from grindcore band Narcosis took care of the dark stylish design of the album, presented in a 6-panel digifile.

MERZBOW – ‘Tempi / Matatabi’ 2 x 7″ (Dot Dot Dot Music) – £18 / £20.50 / £23

The drumming on this set of singles is by Japanese Noise King Masami Akita himself and is in an aggressive free / improv style. The noise is reminiscent of the screeching / howling thunder and lightning of the analogue days of Merzbow, combined to create a brand-new release. The result is an exhilarating blast of ecstatic overload as drums and noise combine and fight against each other.
