Many apologies for EV going a little quiet this summer; it’s mostly down to Cerise getting married and swanning off on honeymoon, followed by too much work and other time-consuming events. However, we’re now back, and this mailer is a bit of a mega catch-up. Midge Ure remasters
We are very pleased to formally announce that the release date for the Midge Ure remastered EMI solo albums The Gift and Answers to Nothingis Monday the 4th of October, 2010. As we’ve previously stated, we have been closely involved with EMI and Midge during the process of making these albums available once again, and we can now confirm the following.
These two albums are the final two releases of the EMI ‘Remastered Definitive Editions’ project, and as with the previous six Ultravox releases in 2008 and 2009, these albums will take the following format: Disc Onewill contain the original UK album, whilst Disc Two will include all of the B-sides and extra tracks taken from accompanying singles, plus (wherever possible) a selection of previously unreleased material.

Tracks that have previously been available were remastered between May and July 2010 by Skye Mastering, with the previously unreleased material mastered for the first time specifically for these new editions at the same time. Previously available recordings were taken from the original master tapes, while the extra tracks were taken from a combination of sources that include EMI’s tape archive and recordings provided by Midge. As with the other albums released in this series, given that the recordings are now up to twenty-five years old, the work that has been undertaken for these releases has given these albums an improved sound that has not been captured on any previous editions and we believe that everyone will be thrilled with the results.
Because of a number of contributing factors, packaging for The Gift andAnswers to Nothing will be slightly different to the other albums released in the ‘Remastered Definitive Editions’ series. These albums will not feature the protective cardboard ‘O’ slip case box, although the physical release will still contain an eight-page full-colour booklet. These booklets will mainly contain appropriate photographs and imagery, but again, sadly no lyrics. Additionally, the separate twenty-page style version of the booklet that was made available for other releases through download via this site and other sources will not be available as the required separate licensing of photographic images and lyrics has not being negotiated.

Midge’s Tunited officially launched
The new music website Tunited which Midge has been developing for the past 12+ months has officially launched, and Midge recently did the rounds of Breakfast TV etc. Midge says:

Mick Karn Appeal
With great sadness we regret to inform you that Mick Karn has recently been diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer. Mick is currently in a positive mood and undergoing further tests and treatment. His family and friends are close with him, supporting him in practical ways, and surrounding him with their love, friendship and care.
Mick has been struggling financially for some considerable time now and we are hoping that this appeal may help to raise funds for any necessary treatment and perhaps go some way towards providing a small degree of financial support whilst Mick’s immediate family provide the care and comfort we would all wish for him. We are hoping that his friends, fans and musical colleagues will, over the coming months, offer any support they feel capable of giving. Quite aside from the sheer brunt of daunting medically-related costs, Mick’s clear and major concern is for the security and well being of his wife and young son.

John Foxx – The Complete Cathedral Oceans
The Complete Cathedral Oceans is a special four disc box set which contains all three albums in the “Cathedral Oceans” series (“Cathedral Oceans” [1997], “Cathedral Oceans II” [2003] and “Cathedral Oceans III” [2005]), together with a DVD of the associated art installation of the same name. This DVD shows “Cathedral Oceans” images almost imperceptibly morphing from one to the next, accompanied by a 5.1 surround sound mix of “Cathedral Oceans III”.  John Foxx – D.N.A.
The John Foxx CD & DVD entitledD.N.A. receives a wider release via Metamatic / Cargo Records on the 11th of October 2010. Described by ‘The Wire’ journalist Mark Fisher as ‘an album of achingly melancholic electronica with some beautiful films on the DVD’, “D.N.A.” includes a brand new track from John Foxx, Harold Budd and Ruben Garcia entitled “Over the Mirage”. This is the first Foxx and Budd recording since their work together on “Translucence” and “Drift Music” back in 2003. The CD & DVD package also features collaborations with film-makers that include Japanese director Macoto Tezka and British animator Ian Emes (on the heavily electronic “Flightpath Tegel”), and a previously unreleased recording taken from last years “A Secret Life” sessions with Steve D’Agostino and ex-Japan percussionist Steve Jansen.
