Camera is the name of the band and they just played recently at Reggies in Chicago. They put on a phenomenal show and had some great energy. Camera consists of a quartet of Chicagoans. David Syvilian on vocals and guitars, Joseph Scro on drums, piano and percussion and Ryan Aylward on bass, synth and fx. We open with Track one, " The Lasting Impression oF Emperors Passed which is a beautiful instrumental piece that takes you back into the old dynasties. Very athmospheric piece that takes you through space and time and history abroad. Next is Track 3, " One Neo Eon " is one of my fun tracks to danse to live, " Justin sings to in classic pre Joy Division style, " One Neo Eon were absolute beginners." You also get a little bit of Bowie to through into the mix and you have a danse club hit like ingenius one. We move on to Track 4, " A Specific Window" which is a guitar driven diddie that speaks it's own dark tune in a surrealistc world of what we know as Camera. Justin switches it up like a Echo and the Bunnymen old skool style that takes us back to the land of video and contrive media. This track was sung so surreal that I will just let the listeners interpret what he is saying. Defiinately a track that is thought provoking and meant to be that way. Now we come to my true favourite track on the whole album, Track 5, " Wicked, Wicked Games " is truely the biggest danse floor hit on this whole album and it kicks butt. Justin sings, " I know what you're up to and it's no good, you're wicked, wicked games. " A tale of deceit and harshness and how the game is being played and no one is winning. " Camera is where it is at but you are the ones that call all the shots. ~ 4 stars Michelle Russo

It's really hard to review this album, because Atomic Neon doesn't sound like Cure, they are the Cure! I'll try to explain what I mean. Usually cover bands try to clone or to do an interpretation of their favorite band. Atomic Neon go ahead of this concept and they made a debut album that sounds like the Cure released it. The thirteen songs of DARKENIA sounds like a lost the Cure album. Try to think about an album Robert Smith recorded after "Kiss me, Kiss me Kiss me" and you'll have exactly this album. I can't say if this is a good or bad thing but for sure I'm embarrassed because Rid Black voice sounds like Robert Smith and since the first guitar riffs of the opening "Who am I" I had a strange déjà vu. Only for the main title "Darkenia", the following "Mein kleid" and the tenth song "Herrgott" the things change a little because the vocals are semi distorted on the first one and the other two are in German, so also the vocals sound different. If you love old school new wave you could love this album, so the only thing I can suggest is to make yourself an opinion by visiting the band's website.

Before the release of the forthcoming new album Madre Del Vizio and Apollyon decided to release a "best of" gathering the best tracks from their 1990÷1997 period. UN MONDO DOVE contains fifteen tracks coming from their first split Madre Del Vizio/Les Fleurs Du Mal MLP (four out of five tracks are included while their first compilation of rarities "The crypt" was having them all), four are from their first album "Dio! Dio! Dio!", three from the "Feast of blood" MCD , two from the "All around" MCD, release that closed their first period as they disbanded. Years later they came back under the Madre moniker with a different line-up but always with Fulvio Tori on vocals. Does this compilation has something interesting for whom already have all their releases? Well if you are their hard core fan there's only "Carcerazione=morte" which was coming from the label's compilation "The new face of apollyon" and you can't find it anywhere else but the remaining songs are coming from their main releases. Instead, if this is the first time you check Madre Del Vizio songs, well, I can say that they have been one of the most inspired goth rock band of the '90s. A band that ideally took the early Christian Death inheritance (the one of the first two albums) and carried it proudly through all the decade. A band who wasn't aping Rozz Williams because Fulvio first decided, as peculiarity, to sing all the tracks in his native language (he's an Italian guy) and then he's been capable to give his imprint to tracks thanks to his interpretation. If you missed them and goth rock is your way to go, check this good compilation.

Eight months after their debut album "Cult of ruins" the Montreal duo is back with a new astonishing new album. Their debut was a good album that mixed drones, black metal and noise but with THE DIE IS CAST the duo decided to change a lot their style and to pleasantly surprise their audience. The seven tracks of the album are always based on guitar drones but this time there isn't no black metal influence, instead you'll find medieval melodies and percussions duetting with the charming vocals of Geneviève. Try to imagine the Dead Can Dance album "Aion" and switch the traditional instruments with drones, chants and traditional percussions as well drum blasts. Menace Ruine succeeded into surprising giving to their music originality without losing their powerful sound. Power that finds its consecration on the 16 minutes of the closing "The bosom of the earth". Great album!

Reissued at the same time of "Smiling, At The Hypogonder Club", THE JEOPARDY MAZE hasn't nothing to do with the sound you can find on their 1985 release. Issued originally in 1999 on Projekt in the U.S. and by Trisol in Europe that album had Attrition line-up consisting of Martin Bowes, Julia Waller and Frank Dematteis on viola (basically the same people who released ETUDE two years before). THE JEOPARDY MAZE mix dark obsessive atmospheres, female opera style/whispered male vocals with electronics that can recall Die Form of the nineties. The album is kinda balanced proposing classical music influenced tunes (see "A virtual angel", "A virtual reprise" or semi classical/experimental "Have a nice time") and obsessive dark electronics. The original album was closed by a strange early 70's synth version of "God save the Queen": a track that sounds like a joke. Instead this reissue is closing by an unreleased track of the same period: "Infant joy" a dark ambient/classical spoken word with lyrics taken from a poem by William Blake.
