Artist: MASOCHIST HALO (@)
Title: Soul Rift
Format: CD
Label: Apirihc
After three years the release of his second album "Stitches" Hijinio Reinoso Jr. is back with his personal project: Masochist Halo. Anticipated by the single "Diamond" (which contains four versions of that song) the album SOUL RIFT refine what was left with the previous album. Being a personal project Masochist Halo always incarnated his personal views and humors and tracks like "Lies Despies Lies" (an excerpt of the lyrics say: "I hate you because you're a fucking bitch. You make all the angels crawl, You make all the angels fall...") or "Don't Mix Too Fine" mix rage with melody and electronic arrangements. The distorted guitars, Hijinio's vivid vocals and the dark synthpop atmospheres make of this SOUL RIFT his best record. Also ballads like "Synthesize My Love" with Hillary Bernstein's vocals and "Backlash" are sweet and bitter at the same time and show Masochist Halo's multi faceted personality. If you're searching for something intense and real give a try to this CD.

Title: Bless This Broken Body
Format: MCD (Mini CD)
Label: Self Released
Fear Of Dolls is basically a Greg Forschler's project (which is also a member of Faith & Disease and former member of Ninth Circle) born in 1995, which basically gathers around him different artists' personalities (in fact actually he's seeking for new members). Some years ago I reviewed what I think it was their first demo tape and I remember that it impressed me because it was going beyond the classic concept of gothic music. Also this new MCD titled BLESS THIS BROKEN BODY shows a band which want to make of experimentation its aim. Even if the music is quite different, their approach remember me Virgin Prunes with their sick ballads and twisted marches. The three tracks of this MCD (plus the hidden intro and outro) are personal and sick as hell. "Screaming Inside Her", "Bless This Broken Body" and "She Was Laughing" are like tortured souls' screams which are echoing inside doubting beings. Keep on doubting and on experimenting and there will always be an interesting band worth the following...

Artist: BIO-TEK (@)
Title: The Ceremony Of Innocence
Format: CD
Label: Doppler Effect (@)
The work of Jonathan Sharp is divided into different projects and since early 90's he's spreading his vision of electronic body music through his various personal emanations: New Mind, Bio-Tek, Hyperdex-1-Sect, Hexedene and Takshaka are all different aspects of his personal music view. This THE CEREMONY OF INNOCENCE is the fourth Bio-Tek's album, the second released for Doppler Effect (the first two albums "A God Ignored Is A Demon Born" and "Darkness By Name Is" were released for the now defunct Zoth Ommog) and contains ten tracks of classic e.b.m. music. As for every kind of record which fit a specific genre there's the danger to follow a cliche but since Jonathan isn't a new comer he succeeds in keeping an high standard performing fiftythree minutes of good electronic distorted music inspired by twisted personalities such as Baudelaire (the "Sorrows Of The Moon"'s lirycs come from the poem "Tristesses De La Lune") and Aleister Crowley ("Prayer"'s lyrics are adapted from his "Gnostic Anthem").

Title: Hacked
Format: CD
Label: Invisible
Sounds of Mass Production's new release is a remixes album. After their third album they swithched label from ADSR to Invisible Records (Martin "PIL, Killing Joke, Pigface" Atkins' label) which re-released "Terminal" (just check the old reviews database) along with this new HACKED. The sound of the band which on the last album was basically a sequenced bass line with samples, synthesizer, guitar, drums and angry vocals (that sometimes have got the hip hop cadence) is slighty different in this remixes album as the various bands didn't use guitars but concentrated mainly on the dancefloor potential of the songs. So the various versions of "Chemicals", "September" and "Megaton" (which are the three tracks that have been remixed mostly with two, six and three versions) had every rhythmical and melodic aspect exploited and explored by bands such as Mindless Faith, Vers, Doll Factory, Akuma & Reverb, Codec, etc. The sixteen songs sound all fresh and energetic and various. It's amazing to notice the efforts that each band did to give a new life to the tracks and I appreciated that. You know that generally I don't like remix CDs but this is worth the purchase.

Artist: IN THE NURSERY
Title: Cause And Effect
Format: CD
Label: ITN Corp
Distributor: Audioglobe
In all these years In The Nursery have been an unique band in the electronic/alternative scene and each project has been particular, for this I'm sorry to say that I don't really understand this CAUSE AND EFFECT. In my opinion a peculiar band like In The Nursery didn't need this remix project to get exposure and the remixers didn't do something really innovative because almost all of them used similar sounds the band is used to use only with the addition of a little more electronic instruments. Only Steve Bennet which did a sensual trip hop version of "Miracle Road", Assemblage 23 which gave an e.b.m. treatment to "Hym Noir", Attrition which by surprise build out of "To The Faithful" a techno ambient track, Haujobb which industrialized a little "L'Esprit" just like Electronium did with "Chronicle", did something a bit different respect the original versions even if some of them aren't really catchy. The most innovative has been Seize which did a industrial/goa version of "Caprice". Also the version of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" played by the band itself isn't that catchy because is well played, well arranged but it lacks of energy. I'm sorry to say this but this CD isn't a must in the band's discography...
