Title: Lupinaria Uccide
Format: 2 x CD (double CD)
Label: Vigna Dei Coglioni
Ever wondered what could be the effect of merging together sane irony with industrial, electronic, punk and pop music? Well the different bands that act under the name of the Lupinaria project know it very well. LUPINARIA UCCIDE ("Lupinaria Kills") offer 107 minutes of controlled insanity where music meet trash culture just to turn it into something more than rubbish. Each band is peculiar and aims to personalize the various musical genres they are making reference to. Dj Smegma takes Laibach and Icon Of Coil samples to build a martial dance track out of the announcement used by the people that sharpen the scissors going into the Italian streets with their cars. Aggettivo Sette melt rap and folk to play an anthem dedicated to vagina. Bravi Ragazzi plays demented oi music (but sometimes into insanity lies the truth...). Kunst Mork plays an instrumental dance e.b.m. track (I already reviewed them when they sent me their first demo) but this time there's only music and not irony. These are only few examples of what you can find within the 31 different musical projects (plus a crazy video maker) involved into this double CD compilation. If you are interested into something different and you're ready to think like Devo and Residents where biscuits and plants are like modern art, you're ready to enter the world of Lupinaria but if you look for perfection, then mind your own business... P.s. Hey, if you want to try it, it costs only 7 Euros!
P.p.s. If you are interested into "normal" alternative electronic / industrial music, on this compilation you can also find good bands like: Mf9, Der Feuerkreiner, Elipsis, etc.

Title: Tiamhaidh
Format: CD EP
Label: Cyclic Law (@)
Rated: *****
Montreal, Canada, based label Cyclic Law's sixth release comes from American dark-ambientalist Invercauld, a project that has released a few CD-Rs but never an official debut, such as this one. "Tiamhaidh" is "inspired by the rain and fog ridden landscapes and history of his Gaelic ancestors". It's easy to make you think of rain, sound-wise, but harder to give an idea of the sound of fog. Invercauld, however, does a very good job at painting a dark and wet and cold atmosphere where nothing moves, except for air and humidity, through, across and beyond the leaves and branches of the forest's tree. Even the name sounds like it has something to do with the word "winter".In line with the tradition of Cyclic Law, this CD comes in a beautiful textured trifold sleeve whose graphics really aid those visuals.

Title: Starscape
Format: MCD (Mini CD)
Label: Cyclic Law (@)
Rated: *****
Swedish ambient-musician Gustaf Hildebrand (possibly better known as Lithivm, whose "Threshold to Disharmony" came out on Cold Meat Industry, or for his collaboration with Karjalan Sissit) takes a step into the starry nothingness of space with his "Starscape", a dark, mysterious, aural, astral journey through the artistic interpretation of the silence, absence of atmosphere. The visionary content of "Starscape" draws you along in this journey of deep sonics and fleeing hints of harmony. It's like floating somewhere and observing, speechless. Inspired by the great names of oneiric, visionary and aural isolationism, such as Steve Roach or Vidna Obmana, Gustaf is not far from the quality that those masters have accustomed us to. The art work of this beautiful textured trifold sleeve (limited 500 copies edition) aids the interpreation suggesting a nebula of light, planets, swedish skies, aurea borealis type of images etc. Beautifully haunting.

Artist: Battery Cage (@)
Title: Ecstasy
Format: CDS (CD Single)
Label: self-released
Rated: *****
Battery Cage is a four-piece electro-industrial band that actually plays and records as a real and full band, as opposed to a laptop artist or a keyboards duo, but f you're strictly an EBM/industrial fan, fear not, because the music doesn't seem to be affected by the rock-instrumentation at all, in fact it's hard to hear any sign of it. "Ecstasy" is the single choosen from their forthcoming full lenght CD "World Wide Wasteland". The production is good and the music is powerful. They make use of heavy beats and distorted vocals, in the best tradition of industrial-dance and EBM so approach them with confidence if you are dedicated to this genre.
