Lab 4 are a duo formed by Adam Newman and Lez Elston. They met in 1991 at a recording studio in Oxfordshire where Adam was in house programmer/engineer and Lez was working with his band M.A.D. Adam joined M.A.D. for the following three years as a drummer. At the end of 1994 they decided to form Lab 4 thanks to a deal offered from a German label Pod Communications. Since then their live show started to gather more and more people who made of them one of the biggest act of the hard dance/techno scene. Their sound melts industrial goth intuitions (they also look like two goth guys) with English techno acid sound and beside playing live, recording and remixing people, the duo composed music for film and television covering everything from lounge jazz, breakbeat, hardcore and house music to a classical score for the BBC or for different worldwide advertising campaigns (Reebok, Polaroid, Camel, Sure, Pepsi and Bacardi, to name just a few). Four years ago they released "Virus" on Tidy Trax and they had to wait so many years for their new one because they changed label, joining Resist Records. Now two months after the release of their double album they decided to call it quits because they lived the last fifteen years on the road and hardly they were able to record an album or to live a proper life. To their fans they leave NONE OF US ARE SAINTS, a double CD packed with twenty two tracks (two acid remixes of their cover version of N.I.N.’s "The perfect drug" reworked by DJ Starscream and by Nightbreed) of their characteristic sound impossible to ignore. If you never heard of them, just try to imagine an house/techno/e.b.m. train that never stops or an early version of Prodigy meet Cubanate but taken to the next level where a fibrillating heartbeat run the rhythm. So long...

Sinbeats’ self named CD is the third full lenght of the German band heading from Frankfurt and existing since 1990. The new album born after a long time of sound re-definition and after a new line-up change. The sound of the band succeeds into blending the 80s new wave/rock sounds (some names that come up into my mind are New Model Army, Alarm, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Fields Of The Nephilim) with 90s/’00s post rock melodies. If tracks like "All the Sundays" or "Shell beach" recall me The Suede, "I want my analogue life now" surprised me with an opening part a la Misfits just to change into something like the latest Franz Ferdinand as well as Sinbeats’ ballads like "Annabel Lee" or "Durango". The band’s sound is powerful and sincere and they convince with their blend of rockish pop wave.

Compiled by DJ Yaniv for his own label Hadshot, the compilation ELECTRO PUNK – VIVA LA REVOLUTION (second volume of the Electro Punk series) has been packed keeping an eye to the danceability of the eleven tracks contained. If you want a compilation to party with this is a really good one, because it contains good rates of melody, energy and pumping rhythms thanks to Olivier Koletzki, Cuburn, Presents Dumb Blonde, Black Strobe, Kiko (oh my, this "Good sluts factory stuff" is a blast), Sikk, Huntemann, Spektrum, Freeform Five, Antichic & Popped, Tiefschwarz feat. Chikinki and Schats. If you are a lover of electro mixed with techno and sometimes punk sounds/attitude this CD is a must own and you can also find it at a bargain price!

Title: human is music

It should be an all star pop combo from Japan and sure I had no doubt this was coming from up there infact the collateral effect this' the jingle of a cartoon. Poppy and sappy?...I'd say no, undeniably less classy than Pizzicato Five and more electronic and squared than Cibo Matto this could also remind a sort of japanese pop meets something of Traband from Island if you remember them. Childish and dreamy as you expect it to be but well done and weird as only japanese music can sound to our western ears. For half of the track I've had an hard time telling thinking it was not cartoon music and not even the "bouble bouble" theme (for those who belong to the pre-playstation school). I know some people think it sound "dumb" music but somebody else like Taylor Deupree would not agree (that's why he also opened an all-japanese-pop oriented label) and that's a point for our beloved samurais. The influence are quite varied but the strongest impression you have after it's over is that's music based on childish melodies or nannies. Well done, easy listening but particular enough to be different from the most of the average band playing this kind of style.

A quite peculiar work for sure! First of all, the band got its name from a movie by Vladimir Tatlin... Several demos have been produced and this record is the last result of their creativity. The members of the band use both traditional instruments (guitar, synth...) and found noises. By melting these elements they have created a very cinematic sound. It is not my favourite kind of music but I must state the record has to be bought by those listeners who like avant garde. Nice cover artwork and very inspired titles...
