Title: Hard Times... No Future?
Format: CD
Label: Q-Code Records info {at} qcode {dot} ru ]
Rated: *****
Already the third full-length album for this Moscow-based one-man-project consisting of DJ Negative. Sergey Losyakov is the protagonist behind all of this monikers and with this new album he offers his best and most matured work of his musically career so far. With "Hard Times... No Future?" he proves nice, that a DJ can do something more, than only to spin silver circles in a player – DJ Negative doesn’t offer any negativity. Musically he likes to walk on several paths – be it EBM, Dark Electro, Futurepop or smooth easy-listening Electronica. The only mutual thing is that all of his efforts are electronic-based, but at least he doesn’t like to get sorted into one-dimensional genre-cupboards. And though the rather straight and a bit harder EBM-minded tracks like "Don’t Be Proud", "Relax", "No Future", "Minimum Maximum (All Or Nothing)" and – best of some very good tunes – "Still Acid" receive my votes as being the best pieces, Sergey’s tracks can satisfy and entertain in all manners and styles. Some ominous voice samples right and well inserted can be heard on the intro tune "Fuck Up" or "Oasis (Cemetary)", while his light-hearted Electronica side receives its best moments on "Pop Muzik Never Die". As so-called bonus tracks you’ll get to heard two remix works. The first one on "230206" by SEVERIN24 concentrates completely to turn this album track into a pure analogue sound event. Second one is a remix on "Hard Times" of the Russian old-school EBM acts DBS – but the final result even ended in a completely new track, on which DBS added some broken German vocals, which caused a smile at me. A lot of different styles to discover and I would recommend to give this album some more spins – you’ll get rewarded with a quite good and entertaining piece of electronic music. In recent news ROPPONGI INC. PROJECT has been selected by DIVERJE to appear on their upcoming remix collection.

Title: Till The End
Format: CD
Label: Russian Gothic Project
Rated: *****
Second full length CD release for this Russian one man project consisting of DJ Negative aka Sergey Losyakow, this time released through the organization known as Russian Gothic Project. Already the first tunes on this new full length show already the difference to the EBM-like structured debut "R.I.P." – Sergey could gain some more maturity on his equipment and he tends separate better between styles. Although that fine appreciated EBM style of the debut turns a bit in the background, his new output shows more diversity and development. Danceable tunes like the glorious "Birthday", which impresses through some excellent played Synth hook lines, "Idiom" or "Terror Fashion" should be able to keep some masses in motion, while a piece like "Paparazzi" are more designed for the open-minded audience thanks to the featured breakbeats here. The slowly arranged "Thoughts" once more proves the musically diversity and provides some acoustic guitars as well – it’s like music for some sad and gray rainy days. A lot of to discover here on this disc, which is – as usual for a DJ – an instrumental album. Some plans are existing about a collaboration with Tommy T. Rapisardi of the US label DSBP, whose voice out of a Cyberage radio show got sampled here on the last track "...The End", for a new DIVERJE album to be released at the fall. Good work, well chosen and tasteful arranged electronic music – keep it on!

Title: R.I.P.
Format: CD
Label: UnderIze Records
Rated: *****
This is the musically output of DJ Negative aka Sergey Losyakov who hails from Moscow, Russia. He presents us here with "R.I.P." which surely is meant a reference to the strange project name, his vision of electronic music and how it has to sound. Like several of his more or lesser known DJ colleges (ADAM X, GLENN LOVE...), also the music of _ROPPONGI INC. PROJECT offers a mixture of different styles which works well for the moment. Globally said there’s a decent EBM mood on this first debut CD and this is much appreciated. Not that Techno-inspired hardcore stuff of nowadays productions, more the finer kind of the old-school. But Sergey also understands it well to integrate some slower and more experimental-minded, like the Ambient-inspired track "Think Twice". Favorites I’ve found with "The Lost Train", a fine arranged Chill-Out EBM piece and the dramatically produced "The Ring", a real floor smasher. Several samples which got used in this track are taken out of the same named Japanese movie. Already with this well done debut Sergey demonstrates that there’s more talent than simply to scratch some vinyl records on the turntables. Keep it on, Towaritsch!
