Title: El Paso Sound-Wall
Format: CD
Label: +Belligeranza
Rated: *****
SANdBLASTING, from Turin, Italy, is back with a new album entitled "El Paso Sound-Wall", a noise CD on +Belligeranza records, a sub label of Sonic Belligeranza. This sonic terrorist's second release (after his 1999 "I am I" and his collaboration with Daniele Brusaschetto on "Scassatolive") is a concept album based on the sound manipulations originating from a live session (track one is the raw recordings all other tracks derived from). The "rmx" versions of the raw material explore the original frequency orgy from different angles, inserting rhythmical concepts, frequency modulations, filter sweeps, vari-speeding, cut-off tweakings, cut and pasted sound bits and so on. Harsh industrial noise blends with power noise, but the crossfading points are blurred. Only for true lovers of noise materia.

Negative Flood Cycle are a duo from the Dallas, Texas area (Rowlett, to be specific) who debut with their "Prophet: Spider" CD EP to show the world and the community of their fans what they're all about. Mixing well produced electro-industrial music with aggressive and abrasive rock distortions and melodic vocals, NFC's sound follows the footsteps of the two major Nothing records artists and blend them in with Warpish breakcore and a germaniac wall of industrial sounds. Negative Flood Cycle sport a healthy anti-MTV and anti-media control attitude, but considering their glamourish and (to quote them) "pop (poop?)" friendly looks and sound, we'll have to see about that in the future (I bet they wouldn't mind being on heavy rotation on MTV, but then again I might be wrong and would love to be). Anyway, in the end pretty good sounding debut, I must say, with lots of nice ear candies in the remarkable production. You can get their EP for just nine bucks from their website or from the CD Baby link above.

Artist: El Estado (@)
Title: 3.14
Format: CD
Label: Overdrive records
Rated: *****
El Estado are trio from Mexico whose latest independently released CD (second CD after two demo tapes) presents twelve post-wave electro compositions. El Estado builds an electro/industrial background and adds distorted electric guitars and dramatic post-punk-type singing to it, achieving a balance that is somewhere between post-punk, dark-wave, electronics, industrial, definitely leaning towards the latter two in the final scheme of things. Somehow these bands from latin countries (Mexico, Italy, Spain, Portugal) all share similar elements, so if you into that kind of music you should like El Estado's music.

Title: Cheapest Electronics at the Service of Destruction
Format: CD
Label: Genital Productions
Distributor: Noise Kontrol
Rated: *****
La Funcion De Repulsa is a group, backed by their Genital Productions art collective, from Mexico that has been around since 1986. After several years of silence they are back with a new album where electronics takes over and drives the style of the compositions as never before... Everything seems to be focused on rhythms and beats and the electronic aspect adds to that, in addition with the distorted vocals and occasional guitars, creating a weird mixture of industrial, breakcore, dub, electro, synth-core. This melange of styles, especially when they use vocals and guitars, makes them sounds like some italian electro-noise artists (think Brusaschetto, Nude, CP01 or others). Lyrics in Mexican and English.

Title: 89mm_minimum.movies - Offbeat
Format: DVD
Label: e:motion (@)
Distributor: Caroline
Rated: *****
Very interesting and remarkable project originating in Germany and based on a collaboration between the label e:motion, who accustomed us to quality CDs and DVDs based around electronic music, and 89mm_minimum.movies, a groundbreaking german organization who made it their mission to help indiependent short-movies video makers and directors distribute their productions more effectively. 89mm_minimum.movies was founded based around the idea to distribute short movies on this 89mm square medium that many have forgotten (especially Mac users ;-)) called the 3'5" floppy disk, which can hold up to four and a half minutes of music, obviously compressed and nowhere near full size screen quality. That's where the Berlin based e:motion label stepped in. They offered 89mm the possibility to do what they do on DVD, which obviously allows for much greater quality of image and sound as well as bigger amount of material. The "Offbeat" project is a collection of 13 non-commerial short movies with styles ranging from regular movies to puppetry, from 3D cartoon type design to animation of photographs. Most movies are without speech, working around the music, letting the imaginery speak for itself, and I think all filmmakers are from Berlin, or Germany anyway. You'll find unusual and out of the ordinary independent film culture packed nicely and presented with electronic music backgrounds provided by Christoph De Babalon, Sergej Auto, Ming, Zorn (not the sax player), Barbara Morgenstern, Don Air, Bob Harz, Angie Reed, Duriz, Anthony Rother, Swag and Jahcoozi. The DVD also comes with a nice color booklet with info in english and german about the movies, their source and their authors plus bonus material about and by the individual filmmakers.
