Active since the early 90s with Mashed and then with other projects such as Audio Assault, Interface, Space Cadet and Vyrus, Mike Ash is releasing through Binalog Productions, the first single under his own name. 'Stop The Machines' contains three tracks wherein electro and electro funk are the main influences. The release starts with the main track. On this one, we find obsessive bass drums leading the rhythm while spacey pads build the atmosphere. The tune is based on dry syncopated beats and synth leads alternating the pads. "Let the rhythm hit 'em" is a robotic electro track based on a bass arpeggio loop with synth effects coming in and out. Toward the end some pads introduce a bit of melody to the structure. "Back To The Oldskool" is a track influenced by electro funk and it's based on classic 80s characteristics (synth shots included). The whole release is focused on rhythmic and melodic variations playing around an idea and for this reason they sound a bit minimal. The good thing is that Mike succeeded in balancing both elements.
