Title: The Bacchic Dance Of The Nymphs - Tyrvais
Format: CD
Label: Prikosnovenie (@)
Distributor: Audioglobe
Rated: *****
The first time I talked to you about Daemonia Nymphe was in 2002 when I reviewed their first Prikosnovenie release. Well, few weeks ago the guys at Prikosnovenie sent me the reissue of the very first Daemonia Nymphe releases, titled THE BACCHIC DANCE OF NYMPHS and TYRVASIA. More evocative than ever, here you can check how the first version of the band was, when all the tracks were written and performed by Spyros Giasafakis (with the help of Pantelis Giasafakis, Evi Stergiou, Stathis Portaritis, Elias Kounellas, Sophia Kuonella, Leonidas Kourentis, Mina Morfi, Sophia Kapetanakou, Domenika Manteli, Vaso Vaiouli and Giorgia Hrisimou at percussions and vocals). At a first listening it seems to me that the tracks sound more "wild", instinctive (see for example "Tyrvasia" which sounds like a pagan gathering) and dark. The melodies and atmospheres are charming and hypnotic and it isn't a surprise that Nikos Brass (an instrument constructor who has managed to reproduce almost every ancient hellenic instrument by using his artistic skills) decided to start his collaboration with the band after he listened to THE BACCHIC DANCE OF NYMPHS. It's a fortune that Prikosnovenie decided to reprint this early material as it would have been a misfortune to miss it. Check it!
