FREE ENTRY ALL NIGHT
After a storming bank holiday knees-up earlier this year, Colony and Scand are back at Rhythm Factory for another two-room Sunday massacre, armed to the teeth with DJs and live acts from across the country. Colony will be keeping things strictly house & techno in the main room, with Scand busting out the purist electro in room 2. And, once again, it’s free (that’s right, free), so you’ve got precisely no excuses for missing out on the Monday-off madness.
Topping the bill is London’s Toby Leeming aka The Third Man, who over the past few years has put out some of the best Detroit-minded dancefloor gear this side of the Atlantic, predominantly via the legendary Ai Records, and, most recently, on Kirk Degiorgio’s Applied Rhythmic Technology imprint. He’s an outstanding live performer (as a recent show at The CAMP testified to), and will no doubt be making all the right noises on Rhythm’s juicy Turbosound rig. Another man who knows a thing or two about Detroit techno – and just about every other denomination of club music worth bothering with – is Miles Whittaker aka MLZ, one half of Demdike Stare and Pendle Coven and general 1210 badbwoy. An integral member of the Modern Love collective, he’s remixed for the likes of Time To Express and Mowar, and performed everywhere from Barcelona to Tokyo. Expect another special Colony set from him. Further main room goodness comes courtesy of Perc Trax’s Truss, who’ll be delivering a rare live PA this time round (watch out for some deadly new sounds from him), and Bristol’s Kowton, fresh from bone-deep collaborative work with Peverelist and excellent crossover wares for Idle Hands. Top stuff.
Scand, meanwhile, will be taking control of room 2, and they’ve got a suitably hefty billing for the occasion, topped by another Ai regular: Plant43. A resident at the always-excellent Bleep43, he’ll be delivering a typically deep, melodic live PA, showing why, amongst other things, Semantica recently drafted him in to remix electro legend E.R.P. Also performing live are the newly formed “post-electro” three-piece The 15 Dead Minutes, comprised of Paul Mayhem aka Dr Skunkenstein, a longstanding DJ who’s released with Electric Avenue and Electrolab, David Froud aka Heuristic Audio, who’s been producing since 2004, with various 12s and LPs on legendary NYC imprint Satamile, and David Campbell aka Delinquent Dialect, owner of Bournemouth’s Templedog Records and producer for labels like Remote Audio and Militant Science. Expect tough, dark and rolling acid-led electro grooves from them. In support are Scand regulars Sync 24 & Innume, agent2 and Steve Allman, who between them own more classic records than will fit in your house (probably), and will be dropping a fair few of them tonight no doubt.
Rhythm Factory continues to go from strength to strength as a club, and can now lay claim to being east London’s best underground nightspot, both in terms of its quality soundsytems and user-friendly staff/layout. And, of course, it’s got an enviable 6am licence, making for a proper rave experience for those of you like to party for the duration (and, quite frankly, who doesn’t?). We had a smashing time last time we were there, and will be making sure this one’s every bit as good. Come join us.
