AMBASSADOR 21: RIOT DEATH WILL BLOW YOU UP!!!

AMBASSADOR 21 “RIOT DEATH (FACE YOUR FUTURE DEALERS)”
With enough soap you could blow up the whole world. To make soap, first we have to render fat. Put the fat in the water, and get the water boiling.  As the fat renders, the tallow will float to the surface of the boiling water. More and more tallow  will rise until the water is skinned over with a rainbow mother-of-pearl layer. Use a big spoon to  skim the layer off, and set this layer aside. Boil and skim. When the fat’s boiled enough that no more  tallow rises, throw out the boiling water. Put the skimmed tallow into milk cartons with the tops opened  all the way and put them in the fridge. A layer of something thick and clear is collecting on top of  the tallow in the fridge. The clear layer is glycerin. You can mix the glycerin back in when you make soap.  You can mix the glycerin with nitric acid to make nitroglycerin. You can mix the nitroglycerin with sodium  nitrate and sawdust to make dynamite. You can mix the nitroglycerin with more nitric acid and paraffin and  make gelatin explosives. You can blow up bridges, You could blow up a building, easy.  With enough soap you could blow up the whole world.  Yours, AMBASSADOR21. Released on Invasion and available October 1st, 2010.

NEON “MEMORIES (BEST OF)”
Re-issue, originally released on Intuition label. Remastered sound, slightly different tracklisting and all New artwork. Elegant digipak in a limited edition of 500. Neon was one of the most active band in 80’s Italian new wave time, marking Italian music history. The band, which was born first as a duo at the end of the 70’s in Florence’s underground culture, soon stands out for its Kraftwerk- and new wave icons’ synth, which made their style an unique 80’s cultural dream’s specimen, together with a new romantic and post punk touch of bands like Joy Division, Ultravox or The Human League. In 1980, the band got off to an electronic start with the 7” single «Information of death», and later, through several line up changes, it achieves to synthesize a mix of obsessive electro sounds, obscure atmospheres and quite original pop melodies which take shapes in later works like «Tapes of Darkness» (1981), «Obsession» (1981), «My Blues is You» (1983), «Dark Age» (1984); in 1985 «Rituals» sanctioned Neon as the best Italian new wave band of that year and Neon have become ‘cult’ all over the European Wave scene. This CD is a definitive ‘Best of’ collection by this influential band, and also includes their very first single ‘Information of Death’, to which also FM (Pankow) contributed an important part. Released on Other Voices and available November 1st, 2010.

AERIAL FX “SAME RIVER TWICE”
File under: New Wave, Synth-pop, Minimal Around 1980/81 Oxford based band Exit 13 changed their sound & changed their name to Aerial FX. They signed a publishing deal with Island Music, released 2 singles (‘So hard’ and ‘Take if from here’ on Island Records) and then bagged enough studio time to record the ‘Watching the Dance’ album. After an intense period of live concerst all over the UK, around 1983 the focus changed to studio recordings and two members left the band. The other 3 continued writing & recording and EMI Records signed them mid 1983. Unfortunately there were creative disagreements with EMI and Aerial FX didn’t progress in the studio and were finally being dropped at the end of 1984. Their studio experiments continued for another couple of years but nothing was released and in 1986 they stopped making music under Aerial FX. Nowadays Aerial FX founder Chris Hufford is well-known in music industry as the manager of Radiohead, Super- grass and Gamma Hayes, he also produced some of Radiohead’s early recordings, a group he would help steer to massive global success. Chris also run his new project Anti Atlas (Downtempo, IDM, ambient). Today finally, this collection features a total of 12 previously unreleased AFX tracks, recorded between 1980 and 1984! A true Collector’s item for lovers of 80ies New Wave! Released on Other Voices and available November 1st, 2010.

THE LAST HOUR “THE LAST HOUR”
Released on ‘Intuition Records’, the predecessor of Other Voices Records. THE LAST HOUR is the solo project of Roberto Del Vecchio ex-GOTHICA, well known Cold Meat Industry act. Some of you probably know TLH by its great contribution to CMI sampler ‘Flowers Made of Snow’. The music is post-cold dark wave, played in an atmospheric and romantic way (this is Italian!) with a touch of harsh industrial elements and modern electronica, combined with neo-classical and soundtrack-like tunes. In some parts it reminds a lot of classic Hyperium releases (Stoa, Anchoarge, Manic P) as well as such Projekt bands as Lycia and Soul Whirling Somewhere or recent CMI signings like :Golgatha:, Atrium Carceri or even 4AD icons like This Mortal Coil, Dead Can Dance and Clan of Xymox. Roberto creates music which paints an atmospheric pictures in the listeners head. The whole album is a real masterpiece of art sombre! Released on Other Voices and available November 1st, 2010.

CLAN OF XYMOX “HIDDEN FACES”
Since their formation in their native Holland, Clan Of Xymox’s music has been constantly changing, always challenging and often quite breathtaking. Formed in the 1980’s, CoX has always been a uniquely evolving band. The act earned a huge fan base with their early releases on the legendary 4-AD label, and later under the moniker Xymox for a Polydor subsidiary. With the album Hidden Faces, Clan Of Xymox released what many believe to be their finest work of that era. Lush layered guitars, pounding rhythms, shimmering keyboards and dark, melancholy vocals blend seamlessly. The singles “Out of the Rain” and “This World” are now considered club classics and were in the top 10 of the German Independent charts and numerous Indie charts all over the world. Metropolis Records is proud to re-release this modern classic, remastered and expanded with three additional songs. Released on Metropolis and available November 9, 2010.

THE LEFT RIGHTS “BAD CHOICES MADE EASY”
Born out of the massive electro/punk cult group Mindless Self Indulgence, singer and guitarist Jimmy Urine and Steve Righ? release their second album in a decade under the name The Left Rights. Never known as artists that would resort to maturity, these two again are once again able to shed the confines of MSI’s sound to experiment with different styles on BAD CHOICES MADE EASY. The result is an incredibly brilliant collection of wildly entertaining childish ID gotten loose. While some of the songs, such as the lead single “WHITE” and “WHY YOU IN MY PHYZICAL” have a touch of the signature Urine sound that will appeal to die-hard fans of the duo’s main project, ‘MSI’, songs like “YOUNG BLACK AND CONSTIPATED”, “MAGIC BONE”, “FREE PORN” and “ASS IN MY FACE” (parts 1 and 2…) bring an unrestrained joy to what would normally be considered subjects out of bounds. Now if we can just get Jimmy to turn off the CAPS LOCK when naming the 41 songs….nope. Released on Metropolis and available November 9, 2010.

AKREA “LUGENKABINETT”
On their hopefully still very long journey through life, ”Lügenkabinett” is a next step which AKREA have taken together with Victor Bullock again. The Triptykon and Dark Fortress guitarist (also known as V. Santura) took care of AKREA’s transparent sound at his Woodshed studios, despite his love of detail always keeping an eye on live performances, so AKREA will not have to go without fundamental arrangements or have to use samples. The inclusion of piano passages, for example, has been restricted to the instrumental, ’Zwischen den Welten’, which, together with the other instrumental, ’Ach was bist Du schön…’, will in all probability remain but a studio recording.  The melodic elements have been reserved for the guitars. The opening track, ’Vier Sonnen’, gets down to business without preliminary banter and is from start to finish interwoven with lead guitar motifs. Stephan Schafferhans’ solos show his blues and rock background on ’Wilde Flut’ (the finale of the regular album edition), among others. But AKREA not only define themselves through the different facets of his and Fabian Panzer’s guitar: ’Bühne Frei’ flirts with black metal sound aesthetics, and the already mentioned harmonic, ’Ach Was Bist Du Schön…’, which is initially ruled by a clean guitar intro, is followed by ’…So Schön’, featuring thrash rhythms on its verses.  The combination of the latter two song titles indicates, even without knowing the words, the biting irony which rules Sebastian Panzer’s lyrics. The cabinet of lies as an overriding concept describes a not necessarily human power which feigns an ideal world to us here on earth. Panzer unmasks and criticises that manipulation, at times in metaphors, at others in an open reckoning with the information, fun and couch potato society which is choking on its contradictions. His vocals, somewhere between massive growls and variable screams, is certainly no less committed than on the album’s predecessor, if slightly deeper and more controlled. The introduction to ’Versprochen Ist Versprochen’ may hint at a (semi-)ballad, though melodic vocals are currently not a priority for the band. But who knows which direction the quintet’s lifeline may still take them. You should never feel safe when it comes to AKREA: they’re much too open as musicians and songwriters to ever be predictable. Released on Drakkar and available October 22nd, 2010.

LTM are delighted to present the seventh studio album from cult Factory Records group Section 25, titled Retrofit. Formed in Blackpool (UK) by brothers Larry and Vin Cassidy in 1978, the band were initially mentored by Joy Division, and went on to record four albums with Factory Records. The first of these, Always Now, offered Krautrock and psychedelia produced by Martin ‘Zero’ Hannett. Their third, From The Hip, produced in 1984 by Bernard Sumner of New Order, explored techno and electronica, and spawned the oft-sampled club hit Looking From A Hilltop. Now recognized as a leading genre band, three Section 25 tracks were included in the recent Warners box set Factory Records: Communications 1978-1992, with From The Hip lauded as one of ‘1000 albums to hear before you die’ by The Guardian newspaper. After a decade apart, Section 25 released Part-Primitiv in 2007 and Nature + Degree in 2009, as well as playing a string of powerful live shows across Europe and America. Retrofit was recorded before the untimely death of Larry Cassidy in February 2010, and sees the group revisit 10 key tracks from their estimable back catalogue, remade and remodelled using new technology, and closing with a compelling remix of Looking From A Hilltop by New Order member Stephen Morris. Retrofit also includes an exclusive brand new track, Uberhymn. In 2010 Section 25 comprise Vin Cassidy, Beth Cassidy, Stuart Hill and Steve Stringer. Live shows supporting Retrofit will see the group perform From the Hip in its entirety for the first time, as well as newer tracks. Released on LTM and available October 12th, 2010.

KEITH CANISIUS “THIS TIME IT’S OUR HIGH”
The 3rd full length release by the Cambridge, MA born Dane Keith Canisius flirts with multiple genres simultaneously — Chill Wave, Shoegaze, Dreampop and Psychedelia and goes beyond these genre specifics. Keith’s earlier albums (Rumskib, Ferris Wheel Make out, Waves) have a strong Shoegaze and Dreampop approach with the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine aesthetics right up front. On This Time It’s Our High he moves closer to his own thing; making the album harder to define genre-wise as he blends so many elements together with elegance and without compromise. The result is a surreal, mood elevating sound combined with a fine pop sensibility that makes it easy to understand. You could say that artists like Animal Collective, Ariel Pink, Deerhunter & Panda Bear influenced some production elements on this album but at the same time it does not sound like those artists. It sounds like Keith Canisius. Released on Darla and available October 4th, 2010.
