Welcome to our weekly round-up of forthcoming releases.

SAM are back! With their new album they have set the bar even higher. “Brainwasher” contains thirteen mindblowing tracks including the hit single “Bull F*cking Shit”. The duo’s sound has developed and progressed noticeably since earlier releases, but groovy basslines, screaming synths, intelligent sampling and bloodcurling drumbeats have been and always will be the trademark of SAM.

[X]-RX was founded in 2006 by Pascal ‘CyRex’ Beniesch. 2010 will see the third longplayer, entitled “Update 3.0”, containing thirteen new dancefloor smashes. “Push It” is the very first track by [X]-RX to feature vocals and will make you want to join in the chant. Remixers include SOMAN, S.A.M, PHOSGORE and CHAINREACTOR.

There’s always been a psychedelic side to THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, and on “Further”, Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands bring it back to the forefront. The duo have collaborated with filmmakers Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall, who have made videos for every one of the album’s tracks, so you can soak up sounds that hark back to 1997’s “The Private Psychedelic Reel”, along with appropriately trippy visuals if you’re so inclined.

“Distances” by NAMNAMBULU is without a doubt one of the most legendary album releases in INFACTED RECORDINGS’ eight-year history. Time now to celebrate this release with a special ‘Black Edition’, featuring two additional bonus tracks and new cover artwork. A ‘must-have’ not only for ‘die hard’ fans and newbies to the electropop sound of the band.

“The Kosmokrator” is the title of the upcoming third studio album from Greece-based PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE 0.1. This new release is by far their most varied and best-produced material; a mixture of strong melodies and harsh beats to bring you a massive album with huge club appeal. It also features a real Buzuki (famous Greek instrument) player as well.

More then sixteen years of band history make ORANGE SECTOR one of the true pioneers of Electronic Body Music. With “The War Comes Home”, the band present all their early hits as well as several unreleased and rare mixes and versions. The CD once again comes in remastered audio format along with the typical ‘classics’ artwork style. Part 14 of the ‘classics’ series – and as always, strictly limited to 1000 copies worldwide!

Artaud Seth, founder of bands like THE MERRY THOUGHTS, DIARY OF DREAMS and GARDEN OF DELIGHT is back! Three years after the last regular GARDEN OF DELIGHT album Seth returns with a new album called “LIB.1” from his new project, MERCIFUL NUNS. The album was already released in March of this year, exclusively available from the label directly, but the second edition comes with an exclusive, previously unavailable bonus track. “‘LIB.1’ is a revisiting of the sound of the eighties and early nineties. If you like the Sisters, you’ll love the Nuns.

A7IE return with the new album “The Shattering”. Produced by Jan L. from X-FUSION/NOISUF-X (doesn’t he produce everything??), this album contains nine loud and heavy original new electro-industrial songs, plus remixes from PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE 1.0, AKTIVE:HATE and SADIZTIK INJEKTION.

The project DAS PRÄPARAT was given life by Dr Hyde in 2001, developing along a different path from their beginning with WELLE:ERDBALL. The new album “Unschuldsblicke” impressively demonstrates the project’s maturation into a distinct style, sticking to the combination of electro and classic piano themes, but also adding further elements of cabaret and jazz.

DEAD WHEN I FOUND HER is the studio project of Portland, Oregon’s, Michael Holloway, a professional electronic musician and producer who sites SKINNY PUPPY, HAUJOBB and MENTALLO & THE FIXER as influences. DEAD WHEN I FOUND HER re-creates classic late 80s/early 90s industrial without sounding clichéd, adding a modernized sonic signature to a dark and brooding foundation.

The personal anger management project TOTAL PAIN KOLLAPZ from Sweden is back with a second release. “Survive the Everyday” is harsh, cold, chilling EBM, containing fifteen new songs and remixes including the dark underground hit “Where Are U” in a new club mix. The sound is dark and hard with a monotonous beat that would fit nicely in any horror movie, as well as in any club.

Aggressive electro from Turkey? Sounds unlikely, I know! SADIZTIK:INJEKTION was formed in 2006, releasing the debut album “Beta Version World”. Hard and harsh distorted beats, violent vocals, heavy and dark synthlines and rhythmic basslines are the ingredients for “Global Genocide”.

The “Return to Eden – Live at the Roundhouse” DVD was recorded during ULTRAVOX‘s 2009 sell-out UK tour on April 30 at the legendary Roundhouse in London. The “Return to Eden” tour was the first time that the classic line-up had performed together in over two decades.

And finally, the re-release of an essential compilation series.
In light of the incredible 80s EBM revival everywhere, the three “EBM Club Classics” compilations (originally released between 1998 and 2001) are now available again. Loads of real classics for small money and a great history lesson for youngsters!!

NEW RELEASES
S.A.M Brainwasher £12.75
Review
SAM are back! With their new album they have set the bar even higher and promising to set dark clubs all over the world quaking again.

Founded by the highly explosive duo Joel Meyer and Daniel Meyer, the industrial project SAM has so far released two highly successful albums in 2006 and 2008 and have also established a reputation as an excellent live act. Their uncompromising and powerful live performance has earned them many shows both in Germany and abroad. In addition to supporting giants of the electro scene like COMBICHRIST, AGONOIZE and [:SITD:], they have also played well-known festivals like Wave Gotik Treffen.

The Chemical Brothers Further £13.50
Review
There’s always been a psychedelic side to THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS (What kind of ‘chemical’ did you think they meant, anyway?), and on the follow-up to their 2008 anthology, “Brotherhood”, Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands bring it back to the forefront. Their last batch of new tracks, 2007’s “We Are the Night”, found the duo collaborating with everyone from THE KLAXONS to LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION. This time around, their most important collaborators may be filmmakers Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall, who have made videos for every one of the album’s tracks, so you can soak up sounds that hark back to 1997’s “The Private Psychedelic Reel” along with appropriately trippy visuals if you’re so inclined. -Jim Allen, Prefix Mag

Merciful Nuns LIB.1 £13.25
Review
Artaud Seth, ex-head of DION FORTUNE RECORDS and founder of bands like THE MERRY THOUGHTS, DIARY OF DREAMS and GARDEN OF DELIGHT is back, triumphant!

For Artaud Seth, the final stop of legendary GARDEN OF DELIGHT didn’t mean the end of his career. Three years after the last regular GARDEN OF DELIGHT album Seth is back with a new album called “LIB.1” out on the Solar Lodge label. The album was already released in March of this year, exclusively available from the label directly and through a few, very selected mailorders. The original release is now completely sold out, but the second edition comes with an exclusive, previously unavailable bonus track.

“‘LIB.1’ is a revisiting of the sound of the eighties and early nineties. Pure, retro Goth!” as the band puts it. They didn’t have the intention to do something completely new. They are not trying to reveal another future sound.

If you like the Sisters, you’ll love the Nuns.

Simple, ironic, dark. Just tunes from a long forgotten time of very intense music! Enjoy the Nunhood.

A7IE The Shattering £12.00
Review
The essence of A7IE essence was born in 2002 under the name ASEPTIE as an instrumental project. From these beginnings, the project evolved into industrial and electro music, experimenting with harsh and distorted beats and dark melodic backgrounds. The first official release with vocals was launched in 2005 and on the French compilation “In This Cold Terrific Room 2” by the label La Chambre Froide. “Pray (This Agony)” was much appreciated by the audience and has been played in many clubs worldwide.

After several remixes for bands like AGONOIZE, TAMTRUM and ALIEN PRODUKT, the band took the name A7IE and was revealed to the public with the single “Messiah” , as well as many appearances on compilations like “Gothic Magazine”, “Goth Is What You Make It Volume 2” and “Extreme Sundenfall 6”. In September of 2007, A7IE launched sick music for sick people with the debut album “Distress” on the labels La Chambre Froide (France) and Rupal Records (Germany), including remixes by TAMTRUM, WYNDARDTAGE and X-FUSION. “Distress” was crowned best dark electronics album of the month.

Now, three years later, A7IE return with the new album “The Shattering”. Wounds have been dressed and there is no more place for remorse and regret. Produced by Jan L. from X-FUSION/NOISUF-X, this album contains nine loud and heavy original new songs, plus remixes from PREEMPTIVE STRIKE 1.0, AKTIVE:HATE, SADIZTIK INJEKTION, ADEONESIS. Das Praparat Unschuldsblicke £12.00
Review
The project DAS PRÄPARAT was given life by Dr Hyde in 2001. With the album “THX LD50” they proved their intention to develop along a different path from their beginning with WELLE:ERDBALL. The new album “Unschuldsblicke” impressively demonstrates the project’s maturation into a distinct style, sticking to the combination of electro and classic piano themes but also adding further elements of cabaret and jazz.

With “Unschuldsblicke” DAS PRÄPARAT deliver a very multi-faceted record. Containing lyrics about paedophilia and fear the album is dedicated to the sorrows of childhood. Furthermore it is intended to critize the social misbalance of our time. Men ought to be provoked to rethink. The protagonists skillfully manage to be shortlasting and open-minded. Alongside the previously known mixtures of various musical styles, special attention has been directed towards recording quality and diversity of sound. Topping off the album is the extraordinary remix of “Mondscheinkind” with hard-rocking guitar riffs, as well as pieces like “Du Störst” which break away from stylistic limitations of acoustic guitars.

DAS PRÄPARAT know how to reinvent themselves repeatedly, musically as well as visually. Thus, the audience will be led to ecstasy again during their next live shows.

Dead When I Found Her Harm’s Way £13.50
Review
DEAD WHEN I FOUND HER is the studio project of Portland, Oregon’s Michael Arthur Holloway, a professional electronic musician and producer who sites SKINNY PUPPY, HAUJOBB, MENTALLO & THE FIXER, FORMA TADRE and DOUBTING THOMAS amongst other pioneering industrial artists as influences. DEAD WHEN I FOUND HER re-creates classic late 80s/early 90s industrial without sounding clichéd, adding a modernized sonic signature to a dark and brooding foundation. “Harm’s Way” is the perfect album for dark music lovers…

The new album contains fifteen new songs and remixes inculding the dark underground hit “Where Are U” in a new club mix . Sadiztik Injektion Global Genocide £12.00
Review
Aggressive electro from Turkey? Sounds unlikely, I know!

SADIZTIK:INJEKTION was formed in the year 2006 by Samet Özgür. He first released tracks the “Infekted and Injekted” and “Endless 8” via free download. These songs gained some excellent reviews SADIZTIK:INJEKTION went on to release his first album “Beta Version World”. One of the first people to have faith in this project was none other than Johan Van Roy (SUICIDE COMMANDO), who released a track on his “Noise Terror 2” compilation in 2007.

Now, three years later, SADIZTIK INJEKTION releases an album that promises to have a similar impact on the scene as HOCICO’s “Odio Bajo El Alma” back in 1997. Hard and harsh distorted beats, violent vocals, heavy and dark synthlines, atmospheric dark pad and rhythmic basslines are the ingredients for “Global Genocide”, most probably the first ever dark electro album to come out from a country that has not really been on the map of harsh electro so far!

AD:keY That’s It! £12.25
Review
THAT’S IT! AD:keY have recorded a new album! The community of fate united both privately and artistically has created a new CD featuring the familiar noisy and EBM-oriented sound. “That’s It!” is the logical continuation of the previous album “Thema Nummer Eins” and creates another mix of the typical ARMAGEDON DILDOS sound combined with song-oriented structures and provoking texts, partly in English and partly in German, all spat outin a refreshingly bold manner. In addition to the twelve new songs, there are also another four remixes on the CD, including one by AGONOIZE. Die-hard old school Tremorians, however, should give the cold shoulder to that remix. So what? The album may be polarizing – but at least it takes it to the extremes. To sum it up: with “That’s It!”, Mr and Mrs Nowotny provide the masses with electronic food, the stuff that the world’s dance floor hooligans crave for.

Premature Ejaculation Body of a Crow £12.75
Review
Despite being one of the most well-known releases in The Lost Recordings series, “Body of a Crow” has never before been commercially released. Often bootlegged in poor quality, first as simple cassette copies and later as a download on peer to peer file sharing sites, many myths and falsehoods have been built up since its manufacture in 1986. What can be confirmed is that this was the first release on Chuck Collison’s Happiest Place on Earth label, which had been set up the previous year. The few cassettes that were made would have been given away to friends or sold privately to fans by Rozz or Chuck themselves. It was not otherwise available for purchase, and it is very rare indeed to come across an original copy of the cassette. Although the front cover artwork of the cassette has been circulated widely by fans and collectors, the track listing on the inside has never before been shown publically. It is because of this that there has been much confusion and debate about not only the correct track names, but also exactly how many different tracks there are. Without a doubt, “Body of a Crow” is the most accomplished and enjoyable release so far in the series and can be considered the turning point when Rozz started to focus all of his attention on his experimental recordings.

“Body of a Crow” consists of 26 separate tracks spread over two sides on the original MC release. There are twelve tracks on side A and fourteen tracks on side B. Each track is titled. More than half the songs are very short, lasting less than two minutes. This creates a fast pace. Most of the tracks combine musical and spoken word samples.

Although original cassette sleeves for “Body of a Crow” must exist, Malaise has not been able to source one. The artwork used is a direct copy made by Andreas Hofmann from Rozz’s original cassette sleeve. The front cover artwork of the original cassette is very well known. It features two black and white photographs of a dead child in a morgue. One of the photographs is a side view and the other taken from above the corpse. Between these two images is the text: “To Those unknown and uncounted persons, prematurely deprived of life by malicious assault, and whose assassins have gone unpunished…”. The cover also includes the name of the project and title of the cassette, as well confirming the year of production as 1986. The other side of the cassette sleeve is rather less well known, and Malaise Music have the great pleasure of revealing it publically for the very first time. It contains the 26 track titles and confirms that the cassette is “Brought to you by…. the happiest place on earth”. Underneath this is written “WE JUST WANT YOU TO SEE THINGS AS CLEARLY AS POSSIBLE”, which became an established slogan for the label.

First Black Pope Spiritual Spiral £12.00
Review
FIRST BLACK POPE are a brand new harsh electro-goth outfit from Italy, combining hard powerful beats and malevolent and grevious atmos-fears with cutting edge painful screaming vocals about the difficult marriage between the sense of sin and a feeling of imminent catastrophy. The band released their first tracks in 2004 on London-based Cryonica Records (Cryonica Tanz v3) and has opened live for quite an impressive list of bands: HOCICO, PANKOW, DAS ICH, KIRLIAN CAMERA, ULTRAVIOLENCE, INERTIA… gaining a strong reputation for their extremely violent and blasphemous live shows with notorious bleeding penance performance and (sac)religious rituals.

FIRST BLACK POPE are the ultimate Evil Body Music outfit on the electro-industrial scene and are now ready to spread malevolent blessings amongst the new sick electro breed. Get into their “Spiritual Spiral” album for harsh powerful beats for an incredible industrial mystical experience.

Memmaker How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising [Deluxe Edition] £15.75
Review
MEMMAKER is the alter-ego of Montreal-based ISZOLOSCOPE, the brain-child of Yann Faussurier and Guillaume Nadon whose interest in EBM, noise, and industrial led to the inception of this project in 2004. After several live gigs and festival appearances and a couple demos, the band caught the attention of the now-defunct Hive Records and released “How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising” to much popular acclaim. The album quickly went out of print, and in 2010 Artoffact Records signed MEMMAKER to release an updated Deluxe Edition of the band’s debut release. This Deluxe Edition comes with extra tracks that never made it on to the first edition, as well as a full-length bonus CD featuring remixes by ROTERSAND, XOTOX, FRACTURED, CERVELLO ELETTRONICO, STENDECK, LIAR’S ROSEBUSCH and other fine electronic artists.

The album has totally remastered and sports new cover art. MEMMAKER are with out a doubt one of the new breed of electronic aritsts making harsh electronic dance music, and this album is the perfect expression of that dark, driving energy.

Freakangel The Faults of Humanity £12.75
Review
Voted ‘best up and coming act’ by over 700 DJs during a contest organized by Alfa Matrix, FREAKANGEL from Tallinn, Estonia, joined the label army and started completing their frontal dancefloor attack debut, mixed and engineered in Germany in the renowned X-FUSION Music Production Studio (NOISUF-X, X-FUSION, SUICIDE COMMANDO, etc).

FREAKANGEL is a mixture of aggrotech, industrial and dark electro, with a touch of alternative rock. Benefiting from the members’ astounding experience (Dmitry I – brain behind SUICIDAL ROMANCE, fr0zen – frontman of CYCLONE B, Art – ex-KAMALOKA guitarist), FREAKANGEL are ready to rock the elektro world with their unique exploding sonic cocktail…

With “The Faults of Humanity”, FREAKANGEL protest against politics and criticize religion and our money-minded society. It’s an album about all of us… how brain-dead we act in this dying world of ours, how we have lost faith in ourselves and how we prefer to believe in television nonsense and pseudo-Gods. Humans sold their fate and traded love for sex on drugs, humans are the mistake of our world, the error to delete and eradicate. With their provocative attitude, FREAKANGEL are closing in, coming your way to disturb you, shock you, shake your senses, trigger hate and get your body moving. Welcome to their world. Don’t be afraid of the monsters hiding under your bed – be afraid of FREAKANGEL!

Leaether Strip Mental Slavery £14.75
Review
“Mental Slavery” is without a doubt the most open and club-oriented album from LEAETHER STRIP since Claus Larsen’s return to the forefront of the electronic scene. This masterfully delivered, angry and upbeat release deals with the mental distortions triggered by our world made of fear, pain and anger. A concept perfectly captured in the album art by the talented American artist Evi Numen.

This emotional violence is translated into a roller-coaster collection of EBM songs constructed around powerful electronic sequences, punishing beats and brutal harsh vocals (as evidenced in tracks like “Turmoil”, “Your God Has Left You Tonight”, “No Entry No Exit”, “Battle Mind”, etc.) And to avoid making this dark album sound too claustrophobic and intricate, Larsen has added a little touch of experimentation through a couple of more intimate songs (“Invade My Body” or “The Bears Aren’t Sleeping Tonight”) and other slower, more moody tracks (“We Built the Walls”, the poignant “Slow”, the carrying “Dead Soil” and the grandiose yet dreamy “Abscido”) which all together reinforce the richness of this chef d’oeuvre.

Also noticeable is the evident inspiration of the classics in the likes of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”, Chopin’s “Funeral March” or songs like the pearl “My Shadow Is Your Home” and even “My Funeral”. There is also the splendid collaboration with ANDI SEX GANG who offers the perfect vocal duet to “What Have I done”, plus an acoustic version of “Songs for Pia” by I:SCINTILLA’s Jim Cookas…

“Mental Slavery” is bound to become a milestone in LEAETHER STRIP’s prolific career, gathering in a way the best elements that have made the band’s career a success to date, but also opening new directions and exploring new grounds, reminding us of how unpredictable our favorite Danish multi-talented artist can be.

Kant Kino We Are Kant Kino – You Are Not £12.75
Review
It is with their strong live shows, a bunch of ear-catching compilation appearances and some astounding remix work that KANT KINO have managed to create a shockwave on the EBM scene! The wait is now over and Alfa Matrix’s new Norwegian signing are ready to deliver their debut album, “We Are Kant Kino – You Are Not” straight to your sound system…

Named after a SIMPLE MINDS tune and a Berlin theatre, KANT KINO paint soundscapes based on interpretations of observed themes in everyday life, from philosophy to reality, from happiness to disaster. The Norwegian duo find their inspiration in old-school EBM and acknowledge influences from FRONT 242, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, LEAETHER STRIP, SKINNY PUPPY and even BORGHESIA and à;GRUMH… KANT KINO also inject the distorted force of the 90s dark elektro genre and the club appeal of the 21st century Techno Body Music movement into their strong 80s EBM roots to render dark body music with distorted vocals and a strong sense for melody.

Expect hard-hitting beats, an orgy of sample manipulations, aggressive vocals and lush melodic sounds. A fresh combination of modern electronics with classic EBM and the matchless Norwegian seal of quality!

Klangstabil Vertraut £10.50
Review
This collection includes the original version of KLANGSTABIL’s most famous track, “Vertraut”, which captured the attention of listeners worldwide right from its first release on a compilation in 2002. In addition to that you will find eight other interpretations, demonstrating the versatility of work that can be extracted from the catchy, familiar motif. Some of the artists who have remixed the track have based their interpretation on intelligent dance music: the breakbeat-framed SOMATIC RESPONSES version, a hybrid of breakcore and IDM by U.S. project ACCESS TO ARASAKA, KEEF BAKER’s metric electro background, which turns into post-rock with dense guitars, and ARCHITECT’s Daniel Myer gives us dancefloor-capable pounder topped with a plausible new melody line to complement the original theme. Torben Wendt (DIORAMA) turns “Vertraut” into beautiful melodic body music, while SYNAPSCAPE keep the original track structure but replace the instrumentation and beats, turning the theme into a heavy electronic floorburner. KSDJ is Maurizio Blanco himself, adding some newly faceted rhythm patterns and melody lines, making his version a contemporary DJ anthem. The remix section is topped off by L’OMBRE from Canada, with lush ambient electronica at its finest.

The release is then closed by the melancholic ambiance of “Zweiter Schritt” and “Ein Schritt Weiter”, which also mark the end of one of the most important chapters of KLANGSTABIL’s existence. In 2002, the album “Kopfmusik” would have been published on Ant-Zen but only six tracks were produced to completion, one of which was “Vertraut”. The project was eventually renounced for personal reasons and “Vertraut” was the only track published in its original version. After “Kopfmusik” KLANGSTABIL started work almost immediately on “Taking nothing seriously” (2004) and incorporated some elements of “Kopfmusik” into it. The track “Ein Schritt weiter” is an early, incomplete version of “Away” from that album. Other elements of “Kopfmusik” can be heard in “Lauf, Lauf!” and “Beziehungsohr” from the album “Math & Emotion” (2008). This release is thus not a ‘regular’ album, but the end of the story for “Kopfmusik” and its history, which accompanied KLANGSTABIL for 10 years. Finally, that book is closed and put back on the shelf. Detailed information on “Vertraut” and “Kopfmusik” is included in the CD booklet.

Mika Goedrijk Looking-Glass World £12.75
Review
One year after “Pellicules”, MIKA GOEDRIJK (THIS MORN’ OMINA/POW(D)ER PUSSY) presents the next aural view of his inner self with “Looking-Glass World”. Musically, the conceptual shift into the world of ambient IBM sounds is evident. Well-placed patterns enriched with mellow guitar slides (“Dead Air”), melancholic piano lines (“At the 11th Hour”), a distinctive (nearly) APHEX-TWIN synth (“White Sand Semantics”), archaic trumpet calls (“Lost Decade”), pounding breakbeats with pulsing sub-bass (“Rusty Swiss Army Knife”, “Le Grand Mal”), make this release a fascinating blend of contemporary electronic tones. “Looking-Glass World” is an album of otherworldly ambience entwined with a blend of acoustic sounds and sheets of sequenced patterns. A highly aesthetic sonic universe, where moods and mastery melt into warm, repetitive arrangements. Have a look into the looking-glass world.

Snog City £12.50
Review
So what is it with these SNOG guys? Just when we have them all figured out as agit-prop electro propagandists they go and drop an MCD of which the title track “City” is an electro ‘power ballad’. And a strangely affecting and even touching electro ‘power ballad’ at that. Don’t they know that electronic bands are meant to just make the same record and over and over again? Sheeesh. This could really upset the apple cart. And what’s with these new collaborations with those denizens of the dubstep deep MONSTER ZOKU ONSOMB? Are they weird but kinda catchy or what? And Thrussell (if it really is Thrussell?) – he now sounds a bit like a mutant Berlin Cabaret singer from the 1920s over an elastic mashed-up beat. This really is too much. And then they bring out the remixes: THE CALCULATORS’ svelte dancefloor killer, CURSE OV DIALECT’s straight-up insanity and to top it off right near the end of the record there is some guy that sounds like he is singing songs around a camp fire to a bunch of girl guides. What the freak is going on here?

Squaremeter Heliogabal £12.75
Review
From ancient history and forward into modern posterity, the name of Heliogabal a.k.a. Elagabal has become the symbol of the Roman iron age’s vice and decadence as well as of how oriental influences were fatal to this culture. A massive conflict between conservative Romans and those who followed the Syrian religious traditions overshadowed Heliogabal’s reign. His rule disastrously failed due to the absence of a give-and-take philosophy and a lack of understanding of the duties involved with wielding the power of a Roman emperor. After the Greek mythology of his last album “Nyx”, Mathis Mootz took Heliogabal’s life as an inspiration for this release which marks the tenth anniversary of SQUAREMETER. Mootz’ skills for creating unbearable tension and covering all bases between absolute silence right up to vibrating choirs and distant industrial outbursts are clear on this album. “Heliogabal” is an intermixture of hypnotic deep drones, haunting basses and disturbing soundscapes. Cinematic field recordings, intermittent hypnotic sequencer loops and urgent eruptions of sound merge into an incredible collection of atmospheric dark ambient tracks. This album might be useful as an imaginary trip into a sable, a cruel past where man had the potential of being a god – before finally being disgraced!

Bloody Dead & Sexy An Eye on You £13.25
Review
Becoming older is an inevitable fact of life – one that has some good aspects, mostly appreciated only beyond a certain age though… If everything goes right, you become wiser. You know what you want. Your inner peace and balance is no longer easily disturbed. And somehow you realize, that looking behind the curtain is an effort worth making. But what has this to do with BLOODY DEAD AND SEXY? Quite simple; five years ago, the German band released a State of the Art dark rock album named “Narcotic Room”, which incorporated the deathrock-elements of the early phase of the band. Combined with the finest songwriting and a very solid production, the very original sound boosted the band into the next millennium.

And now? Now it is 2010. The second decade of the 21st century has just begun and BDAS are all but tired. “An Eye on You” is the greatest longplayer of the band of four. Only the finest ingredients are stirred in, in a smooth and relaxed way, and with an extravagance that could be perceived to be the excessive coolness of the four gentlemen concerned!

Starting with the smart-riffed opener “Solemn Times”, coming across the cold-rocking “City Ghosts” and the well-known, but incomparably excellent sounding “Reaping Day”, via the dark-floor smasher of “Candy Box” to the three-part epic work “Three Corners of an Eye”, it all makes perfect sense! Never before has music sounded so free and at the same time so dashing, full of neglect for all stylistic borders. Hardcore fans of the early days will be delighted that a German song named has “Der Kuss” made its way onto the record of this eight-legged band. It dovetails perfectly with the band’s other German anthems “Frau im See” and “Traurig”.

“An Eye on You” is already the one and only full-length album for all fans of distinct dark and natural rock, no matter whether you call the final product gothic, wave, deathrock or alternative rock. And BLOODY DEAD AND SEXY will perform this album for the first time live at the world’s biggest dark music festival – the 19th WGTreffen in Leipzig, Germany. Welcome back, boys! You were missed.

SIEBEN is unique. There is nothing like him. Words flow from a silky voice and notes slide off the bow with ease. In this there is magic. Chemistry happens. The strings loop, the songs unfurl and the images in your head blossom. You are drawn to this world, compelled. “Star Wood Brick Firmament” envelops you. It enchants. Its stories are rich in life and human warmth and, sometimes, cold reality. This is the mighty SIEBEN, better than ever. Every track is memorable. Solemn Novena Kiss the Girls £12.50
Review
Stop it! Enough is enough! The never-ending wimps of ‘yesterday’s sound’, ‘dusty sound’ and ‘music from the tomb’ – all bullshit. In a time when narrow-minded krautrock is sold as gothic, techno-rave claims to be ‘the next big thing’ and one is still desperately searches for the connection between bagpipes and dark-wave, along come Northern Irish trio SOLEMN NOVENA, releasing a debut album that captures the essence of Goth.

Guitars sounding like they’re from outer space – sometimes atmospherically floating, sometimes aggressively cutting, but without the old metal-riff cliché. A drum computer that sets a cool yet stoical beat, bass pounding deep inside your stomach, so that music can literally be felt again. This is what they stand for. SOLEMN NOVENA are frontwoman LOUISE CRANE (by far the sexiest goth-singer ever…), guitarist, singer and mastermind MARC McCOURT (already known as Dominic LaVey of the UK Vampire Goths NOSFERATU and member of 90s underground heroes RETURN TO KHAF’JI) and bass player Stuart Harland. For years, demos of this Belfast trio have been circulating on the underground. Songs like the heavenly “Siren” easily conquered dance floors from London to Berlin, from L.A. to Athens. Unsurprisingly, it was time for an official debut release, frequently asked for after the exclusive German live debut in 2008 at the “Sex & Drugs & Drum Machines” festival in Berlin.

“Kiss the Girls” does everything right. SOLEMN NOVENA extract the finest ingredients of style legends like ROSETTA STONE, ALL ABOUT EVE and the aforementioned NOSFERATU to develop an individual sound that fits harmonically into the second decade of the 21st century. Tracks like “Ruined”, as well as the (digitally released) single “Silver”, “Trick or Treat”, the title song and “Siren (2009)” are ready to show the world out there that Goth can be cool and far more than the ‘usual stuff’ being released under that moniker these days! It still breathes the spirit of dark rock music and is still able to simply touch your soul.

SOLEMN NOVENA will present “Kiss the Girls” live for the first time at this year’s WGT in Leipzig! 2010 UK Goth, thy name is SOLEMN NOVENA.

Andy Bell Non-Stop £10.75
Review
For connoisseurs of deluxe dance-pop, seductive electro anthems and gold-plated disco grooves. Co-produced and co-written by ANDY BELL and Pascal Gabriel (S’EXPRESS, LADYHAWKE, DEBBIE HARRY, KYLIE, LITTLE BOOTS), “Non-Stop” is a lavish collection of exquisite dancefloor confessionals from one of the most acclaimed and beloved singers in British pop.

“Non-Stop” features the forthcoming single “Call On Me” and “Honey If You Love Him”, a duet with/written by Perry Farrell (JANE’S ADDICTION), a huge fan of Andy’s voice.

Although Andy’s long-running partnership with Vince Clarke in ERASURE remains very much a going concern, the singer’s second solo album provides a liberating platform for his more clubby, nocturnal, disco-glam side. He has even purposely changed his vocal register and style for much of “Non-Stop”, putting clear blue water between his soulfully electronic solo voice and his gleaming, poppy ERASURE work.

Cabaret Voltaire vs The Tivoli National Service Rewind £12.00
Review
Legendary electronic pioneers CABARET VOLTAIRE re-enter the fray with a new album on Shiva Records. “National Service Rewind” represents a collaboration between CABARET VOLTAIRE and new Sheffield rock band THE TIVOLI recorded at CV’s legendary Western Works studios. “National Service Rewind” is a sonic juggernaut that cleaves all conception of dance-rock crossover and dives deep into the jugular to spit blood, bone and baritone. There are no niceties here, no musical politesse, just a new clear war of electronic attrition, psychotic, psychedelic rock and tower-block rocking beats peppered by juddering, Jamaican dancehall bass.

“Swaggering electro rock with a dash of dub, ‘National Service Rewind’ sounds less like Richard H Kirk’s Sheffield post punkers CABARET VOLTAIRE, and more like KASABIAN trapped in a lift with PRIMAL SCREAM” – DJ Magazine

Eden Synthetic Corps Eight Thousand Square Feet £13.25
Review
Third album by this electro-industrial band, who have had an overwhelming response to their first two albums!

Formed in 2005, EDEN SYNTHETIC CORPS started getting rave reviews all over the internet for their early songs and signed a record deal with Scanner just a couple of months after their formation. Their debut album “Matte” (2006) was enthusiastically received by the entire alternative community and the word was spread all over that there was finally an electro-industrial band from Portugal worth listening to!

ESC always tried their best to sound unique among hundreds of clones and they achieved a new level of identity when they released “Enhancer”, a conceptual album, narrating the story of a serial killer on a woman-killing spree. The artwork was widely considered as one of its genre and the album followed the path of “Matte” by getting great reviews from the press and great feedback from fans.

“Eight Thousand Square Feet” features yet another concept, portrayed as comic strips on the artwork of the luxurious digipak packaging. Without a doubt, this represents ESC’s most intense album to date, also featuring guest appearances from Carsten Jacek of [:SITD:] and Jan L. from X-FUSION. If you like intense beats, a spine-tingling atmosphere and dark harsh vocals, you mustn’t miss this brilliant re-confirmation of ESC’s excellence!
