Welcome to our weekly round-up of forthcoming releases. Apologies for the 3 week absence, the shipping of Infest tickets and Whitby Goth Weekend have meant things have been very busy here at MNS HQ, so this is a big one!

“Mental Slavery” is without a doubt the most open and club-oriented album from LEÆTHER STRIP since Claus Larsen’s return to the forefront of the electronic scene. The limited edition (in deluxe carton box) features a full-length bonus CD, a lanyard and access to an additional 19 downloadable bonus remixes. There’s even a T-shirt and Girlie shirt to go with the release!

MEMMAKER is the alter-ego of Montreal-based ISZOLOSCOPE, whose interest in EBM, noise, and industrial led to the inception of this project in 2004. “How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising” quickly went out of print, and in 2010 ARTOFFACT RECORDS signed MEMMAKER to release an updated Deluxe Edition of the band’s debut release, featuring extra tracks that never made it on to the first edition, as well as a full-length bonus CD featuring remixes by ROTERSAND, XOTOX, FRACTURED, CERVELLO ELETTRONICO, etc. The highly limited fanset includes the double CD, the “A Robot Must Protect Its Own Existence” T-shirt (also available separately) and more.

For the first time on vinyl, a complete collection of the highly-acclaimed ANDREW LILES remixes of the first five classic CURRENT 93 albums, “Nature Unveiled”, “Dogs Blood Rising”, “In Menstrual Night”, “Dawn” and “Live at Bar Maldoror”, and also exclusive to this set is a sixth LP, “Haunt Invocation (Apadno)”, which is a remixed version of “Faust” and “A Special Plan”. These influential albums by CURRENT 93 are regarded by many as ground breaking.

KANT KINO are ready to deliver their debut album “We Are Kant Kino – You Are Not” straight to your sound system. The Norwegian duo find their inspiration in old-school EBM and acknowledge influences from FRONT 242, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, LEÆTHER STRIP and SKINNY PUPPY. Expect hard-hitting beats, an orgy of sample manipulations, aggressive vocals and lush melodic sounds. The deluxe carton box edition includes the exclusive fourteen-track bonus album “We Are Kant Kino – You Are Too” featuring thirteen remixes, in a vast variety of styles, and a stomping cover of NITZER EBB’s “Control I’m Here”.

“Stay Gold Forever Gold” is the name of the third CD from German-Spanish electro-house outfit ASCII.DISKO. The album features the blazing new single “Jawbreaker, and cements their status as one of the highest energy electronic acts of the current time, featuring twelve tracks of non-stop dancefloor shakers and nearly 80 minutes of music!

The second ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO box (“Box 2”) is a deluxe 6CD set, featuring five albums each with bonus tracks, plus a sixth Bonus CD. Limited edition of strictly 700 copies so order quickly.

Berlin-based muscle man Roger Baptist is RUMMELSNUFF, a combination of testosterone-laden body building aesthetics, brute maritime romanticism and comic-book hero. “Sender Karlshorst” uses a minimal electro foundation garnished with all sorts of sonic experiments, a healthy dose of weirdness and his trademark hoarse voice.

ITN Corporation proudly release “Aubade” – a comprehensive collection of recordings made by IN THE NURSERY during their formative years 1983 – 1985.

Born out of a love for the amalgamation of music and computers by bands such as THE PRODIGY, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, KILLING JOKE, KRAFTWERK and NITZER EBB, B.O.S.C.H. stands for absolutely no rules in making music. “Einsam” is ‘difference’ – every time and everywhere.

BLOODY DEAD AND SEXY are back with “An Eye on You”, an album for all fans of distinct dark and natural rock, no matter whether you call the final product gothic, wave, deathrock or alternative rock.

The “It Is Useless to Resist Us: 25 Years of INFORMATION SOCIETY” DVD celebrates the 25th anniversary of this hugely influential and popular electronic pop act by giving fans a full live concert, all their music videos, bonus archival footage and photos, and a brand new EP, all on one disc. The live concert took place in Philadelphia in 2008.

Portugal’s electro-industrialists EDEN SYNTHETIC CORPS return with “Eight Thousand Square Feet”, their most intense album to date, with hard beats, a spine-tingling atmosphere and dark harsh vocals. Featuring guest appearances from Carsten Jacek of [:SITD:] and Jan L. from X-FUSION.

When TYING TIFFANY enters the scene with her musical visions, British goth godmother SIOUXSIE SIOUX comes to mind. The legendary spirit of early JOY DIVISION, paired with a boundless devotion to the melancholic monotony found in BAUHAUS and a powerful influence of rushing electroclash turn “Peoples Temple” into a modern goth manifest not to be missed.

Voted ‘best up and coming act’ by over 700 DJs during a contest organized by ALFA MATRIX, FREAKANGEL, from Estonia, joined the label army and started completing their frontal dancefloor attack debut “The Faults of Humanity”, a mixture of aggrotech, industrial and dark electro, with a touch of alternative rock. The 2CD deluxe edition contains the exclusive thirteen-track bonus album “Humanity by De-Fault”.

The German band CHROM release their debut album “Electroscope”, creating a sound that is as catchy as it is club-compatible. The bass power, impact and energy of EBM are fused with the airy, technoid elements of futurepop and the lush melodies of synthpop to create a versatile and compact sound that finds its very own niche in between bands like VNV NATION and SOLITARY EXPERIMENTS.

More quality compilations this week with “Electrostorm Volume 2” from OUT OF LINE, featuring the most relevant EBM, electro, synthpop, alternative dance and industrial club tracks, including COMBICHRIST, BLUTENGEL, AND ONE, KIRLIAN CAMERA and many more. “Extreme Störfrequenz Volume 5” covers the best of industrial, rave, cyber-electro and future pop frequencies, with acts including SUICIDE COMMANDO, KIEW, 13TH MONKEY and SYNAPSCAPE. And the Frankfurt electronic clubnight “Tanzlabor” celebrates it’s 5th birthday with a tremendous and unique CD compilation of the same name. Presenting club hit after club hit the tracklist encompasses rare and exclusive songs and mixes by FEINDFLUG, HOCICO, SOMAN and NOISUF-X.

And finally, some major label re-issues as THE CURE’s seminal eighth album from 1989 has come of age and with it the release of the 21st anniversary edition of “Disintegration”. Available as a 3CD Deluxe Edition and 2LP version. NINE INCH NAILS and SOFT CELL both have ‘2 for 1’ packages with “The Downward Spiral + With Teeth” and “Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret + The Art of Falling Apart” respectively.

Leaether Strip Mental Slavery £14.75
Review
“Mental Slavery” is without a doubt the most open and club-oriented album from LEÆTHER STRIP since Claus Larsen’s return to the forefront of the electronic scene. This masterfully delivered, angry and upbeat release deals with the mental distortions triggered by our world made of fear, pain and anger. A concept perfectly captured in the album art by the talented American artist Evi Numen.

This emotional violence is translated into a roller-coaster collection of EBM songs constructed around powerful electronic sequences, punishing beats and brutal harsh vocals (as evidenced in tracks like “Turmoil”, “Your God Has Left You Tonight”, “No Entry No Exit”, “Battle Mind”, etc.) And to avoid making this dark album sound too claustrophobic and intricate, Larsen has added a little touch of experimentation through a couple of more intimate songs (“Invade My Body” or “The Bears Aren’t Sleeping Tonight”) and other slower, more moody tracks (“We Built the Walls”, the poignant “Slow”, the carrying “Dead Soil” and the grandiose yet dreamy “Abscido”) which all together reinforce the richness of this chef d’oeuvre.

Also noticeable is the evident inspiration of the classics in the likes of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”, Chopin’s “Funeral March” or songs like the pearl “My Shadow Is Your Home” and even “My Funeral”. There is also the splendid collaboration with ANDI SEX GANG who offers the perfect vocal duet to “What Have I done”, plus an acoustic version of “Songs for Pia” by I:SCINTILLA’s Jim Cookas…

“Mental Slavery” is bound to become a milestone in LEÆTHER STRIP’s prolific career, gathering in a way the best elements that have made the band’s career a success to date, but also opening new directions and exploring new grounds, reminding us of how unpredictable our favorite Danish multi-talented artist can be.

Memmaker How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising [Deluxe Edition] £15.75
Review
MEMMAKER is the alter-ego of Montreal-based ISZOLOSCOPE, the brain-child of Yann Faussurier and Guillaume Nadon whose interest in EBM, noise, and industrial led to the inception of this project in 2004. After several live gigs and festival appearances and a couple demos, the band caught the attention of the now-defunct Hive Records and released “How to Enlist in a Robot Uprising” to much popular acclaim. The album quickly went out of print, and in 2010 Artoffact Records signed MEMMAKER to release an updated Deluxe Edition of the band’s debut release. This Deluxe Edition comes with extra tracks that never made it on to the first edition, as well as a full-length bonus CD featuring remixes by ROTERSAND, XOTOX, FRACTURED, CERVELLO ELETTRONICO, STENDECK, LIAR’S ROSEBUSCH and other fine electronic artists.

The album has totally remastered and sports new cover art. MEMMAKER are with out a doubt one of the new breed of electronic aritsts making harsh electronic dance music, and this album is the perfect expression of that dark, driving energy.

Kant Kino We Are Kant Kino – You Are Not £12.75
Review
It is with their strong live shows, a bunch of ear-catching compilation appearances and some astounding remix work that KANT KINO have managed to create a shockwave on the EBM scene! The wait is now over and Alfa Matrix’s new Norwegian signing are ready to deliver their debut album, “We Are Kant Kino – You Are Not” straight to your sound system…

Named after a SIMPLE MINDS tune and a Berlin theatre, KANT KINO paint soundscapes based on interpretations of observed themes in everyday life, from philosophy to reality, from happiness to disaster. The Norwegian duo find their inspiration in old-school EBM and acknowledge influences from FRONT 242, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, LEÆTHER STRIP, SKINNY PUPPY and even BORGHESIA and à;GRUMH… KANT KINO also inject the distorted force of the 90s dark elektro genre and the club appeal of the 21st century Techno Body Music movement into their strong 80s EBM roots to render dark body music with distorted vocals and a strong sense for melody.

Expect hard-hitting beats, an orgy of sample manipulations, aggressive vocals and lush melodic sounds. A fresh combination of modern electronics with classic EBM and the matchless Norwegian seal of quality!

Rummelsnuff Sender Karlshorst £13.75
Review
Berlin-based muscle man Roger Baptist is RUMMELSNUFF, a combination of testosterone-laden body building aesthetics, brute maritime romanticism and comic-book hero; a strange, yet fascinating icon who spawns a steadily-growing fan base and has generated quite some buzz in the press.

Two years after releasing his debut album, the captain is on the air again with fifteen songs of even greater stylistic and instrumental variety than on his first outing. Be it the sad but beautiful shanty “Salzig Schmeckt der Wind”, the synthetic rockabilly sound of “Donnerbolzen” or the rough electronic culture of songs like “Eindruck schinden”, “Pumper” and “Winterlied”, Baptist is happily ignoring all standard genre boundaries while sporting a thoroughly identifiable and unique sound.

Basing his music on a minimal electro foundation that he effectively garnishes with all sorts of sonic experiments, a healthy dose of weirdness and his trademark hoarse voice, RUMMELSNUFF is one of the most unique acts in German-language popular music. The pre-album release digital single “Freier Fall”, for instance, sounds as if MAX SCHMELING, TOM WAITS, DER PLAN and RAMMSTEIN have come together to record a collaborative song. “Sender Karlshorst” will be broadcasting its raw “Strom-Musik” on all frequencies from May 14!

Bloody Dead & Sexy An Eye on You £13.25
Review
Becoming older is an inevitable fact of life – one that has some good aspects, mostly appreciated only beyond a certain age though… If everything goes right, you become wiser. You know what you want. Your inner peace and balance is no longer easily disturbed. And somehow you realize, that looking behind the curtain is an effort worth making. But what has this to do with BLOODY DEAD AND SEXY? Quite simple; five years ago, the German band released a State of the Art dark rock album named “Narcotic Room”, which incorporated the deathrock-elements of the early phase of the band. Combined with the finest songwriting and a very solid production, the very original sound boosted the band into the next millennium.

And now? Now it is 2010. The second decade of the 21st century has just begun and BDAS are all but tired. “An Eye on You” is the greatest longplayer of the band of four. Only the finest ingredients are stirred in, in a smooth and relaxed way, and with an extravagance that could be perceived to be the excessive coolness of the four gentlemen concerned!

Starting with the smart-riffed opener “Solemn Times”, coming across the cold-rocking “City Ghosts” and the well-known, but incomparably excellent sounding “Reaping Day”, via the dark-floor smasher of “Candy Box” to the three-part epic work “Three Corners of an Eye”, it all makes perfect sense! Never before has music sounded so free and at the same time so dashing, full of neglect for all stylistic borders. Hardcore fans of the early days will be delighted that a German song named has “Der Kuss” made its way onto the record of this eight-legged band. It dovetails perfectly with the band’s other German anthems “Frau im See” and “Traurig”.

“An Eye on You” is already the one and only full-length album for all fans of distinct dark and natural rock, no matter whether you call the final product gothic, wave, deathrock or alternative rock. And BLOODY DEAD AND SEXY will perform this album for the first time live at the world’s biggest dark music festival – the 19th WGTreffen in Leipzig, Germany. Welcome back, boys! You were missed.

ESC Eight Thousand Square Feet £13.25
Review
Third album by this electro-industrial band, who have had an overwhelming response to their first two albums!

Formed in 2005, EDEN SYNTHETIC CORPS started getting rave reviews all over the internet for their early songs and signed a record deal with Scanner just a couple of months after their formation. Their debut album “Matte” (2006) was enthusiastically received by the entire alternative community and the word was spread all over that there was finally an electro-industrial band from Portugal worth listening to!

ESC always tried their best to sound unique among hundreds of clones and they achieved a new level of identity when they released “Enhancer”, a conceptual album, narrating the story of a serial killer on a woman-killing spree. The artwork was widely considered as one of its genre and the album followed the path of “Matte” by getting great reviews from the press and great feedback from fans.

“Eight Thousand Square Feet” features yet another concept, portrayed as comic strips on the artwork of the luxurious digipak packaging. Without a doubt, this represents ESC’s most intense album to date, also featuring guest appearances from Carsten Jacek of [:SITD:] and Jan L. from X-FUSION. If you like intense beats, a spine-tingling atmosphere and dark harsh vocals, you mustn’t miss this brilliant re-confirmation of ESC’s excellence!

Tying Tiffany Peoples Temple £13.75
Review
Exceptional musician, prestigious supermodel, revolutionary DJ, actress, venerated muse of countless artists… there is practically no end to the list of achievements of the Italian icon TYING TIFFANY. Right in the middle of provocative catwalk appearances for Diesel and similar designers, riotous live performances and the glamorous world of uncounted magazine covers, the posh artist has created her own unique and dazzling universe which she is about to expand even further with her new album “Peoples Temple”.

Nothing less than the resurrection of traditional goth music from the perspective of today’s decadent lifestyle lurks within TYING TIFFANY, a hot-blooded artist who is ignorant to attributes like ‘half-heartedness’ and lives out her urge of musical fulfillment as convincingly as very few artists before her. When TYING TIFFANY enters the scene with her musical visions, British goth godmother SIOUXSIE SIOUX comes to ones mind as inevitably as THE VELVET UNDERGROUND femme fatale Nico or Andy Warhol’s muse Edie Sedwick. The legendary spirit of early JOY DIVISION, paired with a boundless devotion to the melancholic monotony found in BAUHAUS and a powerful influence of rushing electroclash frame the ring in which the Italian gothic queen runs riot like a possessed sex symbol and in which she unleashes an energy painfully missed in most other contemporary female solo artists.

Be aware, though: there is a monstrously creative beast hiding behind those endless legs and the coquettishly twinkling eyes, a snarling fury which couldn’t be further away from high society’s expressionless girlies and which really has something to say. Tracks like the erupting “One Breath” or the biting opener “3 Circle” show TYING TIFFANY delivering a vocal tour de force that effortlessly competes with EMILIE AUTUMN in terms of intensity and charisma. The Victorian goth violinist and the dark-haired beauty TYING TIFFANY also share a dominant urge to self-fulfilment as well as an inborn sense for perfectionism that turns “Peoples Temple” into a modern goth manifest not to be missed, a release that creates something furiously original out of past day braveries and the possibilities of our modern world.

True to the roots of the genre, the irresistible goth vamp delivers a lesson in punkish attitude, revolutionary gusto and a lot of electronic reinforcement, strengthening her reputation as a truly exceptional artist of our time – as a legitimate SIOUXSIE SIOUX descendant and long-legged muse combined in one person whose interpretation of danceable, gripping goth tunes is among the most aesthetically convincing musical outputs this scene has witnessed for many years.

Freakangel The Faults of Humanity £12.75
Review
Voted ‘best up and coming act’ by over 700 DJs during a contest organized by Alfa Matrix, FREAKANGEL from Tallinn, Estonia, joined the label army and started completing their frontal dancefloor attack debut, mixed and engineered in Germany in the renowned X-FUSION Music Production Studio (NOISUF-X, X-FUSION, SUICIDE COMMANDO, etc).

FREAKANGEL is a mixture of aggrotech, industrial and dark electro, with a touch of alternative rock. Benefiting from the members’ astounding experience (Dmitry I – brain behind SUICIDAL ROMANCE, fr0zen – frontman of CYCLONE B, Art – ex-KAMALOKA guitarist), FREAKANGEL are ready to rock the elektro world with their unique exploding sonic cocktail…

With “The Faults of Humanity”, FREAKANGEL protest against politics and criticize religion and our money-minded society. It’s an album about all of us… how brain-dead we act in this dying world of ours, how we have lost faith in ourselves and how we prefer to believe in television nonsense and pseudo-Gods. Humans sold their fate and traded love for sex on drugs, humans are the mistake of our world, the error to delete and eradicate. With their provocative attitude, FREAKANGEL are closing in, coming your way to disturb you, shock you, shake your senses, trigger hate and get your body moving. Welcome to their world. Don’t be afraid of the monsters hiding under your bed – be afraid of FREAKANGEL!

Chrom Electroscope £13.75
Review
The German band CHROM are not big fans of genre restrictions. Henceforth, “Electroscope”, the title of the group’s debut album can be seen as rather programmatic, as the music is an eclectic amalgam from the broad stylistic bandwidth that electronic popular music has to offer, creating a sound that is as catchy as it is club-compatible. Vocals-wise, CHROM effectively walk the thin line between warm melodies and relentless energy. The bass power, impact and energy of EBM are fused with the airy, technoid elements of futurepop and the lush melodies of synthpop to create a versatile and compact sound that finds its very own niche in between bands like VNV NATION and SOLITARY EXPERIMENTS. The album is topped off by two remixes, one of them by famous Berlin-based dark pop band BLUTENGEL. Dance and let your mind flow!

Cinderella Effect Cinderellicious £14.75
Review
After the rather spherical debut “Pearls” that was comprised entirely of cover versions, BLUTENGEL singer Constance Rudert embarks on a dark romantic adventure full of magical moments on her second album. With Marcus Seiler and Jonny Glück, she has found two partners in crime, making CINDERELLA EFFECT anno 2010 a full-blown band. The influence clearly shows on “Cinderellicious”, which sports a versatile blend of virtuoso piano sounds, strings and alternative rock influences, thus creating a unique sound that falls into place somewhere in the wide open field in between trip hop, new wave and the melancholy rock ballads of the likes of NICK CAVE or MADRUGADA. Aided by the devilish violinist Neil Black (who previously worked with UB40, BAUHAUS and COIL) and guitarist Carsten Klatte (PETER HEPPNER BAND, PROJECT PITCHFORK), CINDERELLA EFFECT have managed to create an impressive second album that is not easy to categorize but that will instantly pull you in with its atmospheric and catchy tunes.

Axodry Feel It Right £8.75
Review
AXODRY is one of the well known names when it comes to electropop made in Germany. Produced in the studio of Axel Henninger (CAMOUFLAGE, MOSKWA TV, DE/VISION and more) AXODRY was the brainchild of Ralf Henrich aka RA/HEN – well known for other musical projects such as TWO OF CHINA, MOSKWA TV, ROBOTIKO REJEKTO, MICRO CHIP LEAGUE, WHIPSPERING COLORS and many more. Definitely one of the main forces on the German scene, based at the legendary Westside label. Hits such as “Feel It Right”, “Surrender” and “You” are still very much coveted, selling for fortunes at worldwide music fairs and through internet auctions.

“Feel It Right” is the first official collection of all AXODRY hits on one CD, part 11 of the Infacted ‘classics’ series. Digitally remastered and once again limited to only 1000 copies, this release is a true time document of electronic music!

Solemn Novena Kiss the Girls £12.50
Review
Stop it! Enough is enough! The never-ending wimps of ‘yesterday’s sound’, ‘dusty sound’ and ‘music from the tomb’ – all bullshit. In a time when narrow-minded krautrock is sold as gothic, techno-rave claims to be ‘the next big thing’ and one is still desperately searches for the connection between bagpipes and dark-wave, along come Northern Irish trio SOLEMN NOVENA, releasing a debut album that captures the essence of Goth.

Guitars sounding like they’re from outer space – sometimes atmospherically floating, sometimes aggressively cutting, but without the old metal-riff cliché. A drum computer that sets a cool yet stoical beat, bass pounding deep inside your stomach, so that music can literally be felt again. This is what they stand for. SOLEMN NOVENA are frontwoman LOUISE CRANE (by far the sexiest goth-singer ever…), guitarist, singer and mastermind MARC McCOURT (already known as Dominic LaVey of the UK Vampire Goths NOSFERATU and member of 90s underground heroes RETURN TO KHAF’JI) and bass player Stuart Harland. For years, demos of this Belfast trio have been circulating on the underground. Songs like the heavenly “Siren” easily conquered dance floors from London to Berlin, from L.A. to Athens. Unsurprisingly, it was time for an official debut release, frequently asked for after the exclusive German live debut in 2008 at the “Sex & Drugs & Drum Machines” festival in Berlin.

“Kiss the Girls” does everything right. SOLEMN NOVENA extract the finest ingredients of style legends like ROSETTA STONE, ALL ABOUT EVE and the aforementioned NOSFERATU to develop an individual sound that fits harmonically into the second decade of the 21st century. Tracks like “Ruined”, as well as the (digitally released) single “Silver”, “Trick or Treat”, the title song and “Siren (2009)” are ready to show the world out there that Goth can be cool and far more than the ‘usual stuff’ being released under that moniker these days! It still breathes the spirit of dark rock music and is still able to simply touch your soul.

SOLEMN NOVENA will present “Kiss the Girls” live for the first time at this year’s WGT in Leipzig! 2010 UK Goth, thy name is SOLEMN NOVENA.

Eisbrecher Eiszeit £13.75
Review
“Eiszeit” (‘Ice Age’), the highly anticipated new studio album from German electronic rock masters EISBRECHER, is undoubtedly their absolute masterpiece. Preceeded by a single of the same name which is already getting MASSIVE airplay and heavy rotation in the goth/EBM clubs, the album is eagerly anticipated.

EISBRECHER (the successor to the very popular German EBM/gothic act MEGAHERZ) have gained an amazing reputation within the scene and are today one of the most successful electronic rock/gothic bands around. They achieved massive success with their album “Sünde” in 2008: the album and its preceeding single “Kann denn Liebe Sünde Sein” both very quickly became huge and secured a sensational #18 for “Sünde” in Germany’s official album charts! With “Eiszeit” they have without a doubt moved on to the next level – another classic album that will bring the clubs to the boil. Centred around TV celebrity Alexx Wesselsky (who is the host of a very popular car-pimp show), this is a band that knows exactly what the audience wants.

The next goal in EISBRECHER’s mission is clear: “Eiszeit” is dawning. Expect a groovy, electronic/industrial album that will amaze fans of bands such as RAMMSTEIN and OOMPH!, but on the other hand that will fascinate with the typical trademarks and the unique identity of EISBRECHER. Prepare for another Ice Age…

Founded in 1999 by the artist Steven Archer and the author Donna Lynch, the name originates from the novel “Dune” from Frank Herbert’s series of the same name. “Breedless” is the fourth album from this American duo, as well as their first release on Dependent. EGO LIKENESS have ascended from their technoid, organic, trip-hop origins and evolved into a darker electronic dimension with each ensuing album. The earlier comparisons with bands like CURVE and COLLIDE can no longer be applied to “Breedless”, as the duo’s work has taken on a much broader and darker spectrum, switching between soft female chants and a much louder vocal style filled with tormented energy. Despite its variable speeds and volumes, the album is always emotionally charged, whilst the lyrics consider the darkness of our human psyche. In retrospect, it is obvious that EGO LIKENESS have consistently increased their standard of productivity. An amazing fourth album!

Welle Erdball Operation: Zeitsturm £16.75
Review
2010: Kicking off the new decade, WELLE: ERDBALL strike again, giving a new meaning to the infamous term ‘concept album’. After their latest album “Chaos Total” which entered the German official charts effortlessly, plus the single release “Ich Bin aus Plastik!” (which went to #1 in the German Alternative Charts), WELLE: ERDBALL broadcast their looooong announced epic movie “Operation: Zeitsturm” together with the accompanying soundtrack.

“Operation: Zeitsturm” is the first true movie of and for a whole musical genre. Over three years, the band has realized their self-written screenplay, featuring renowned actors – with a result somewhere between “Indiana Jones” and “Back to the Future”. The movie soundtrack alone is a whole new studio album featuring fifteen tracks!

Starting in March 2010, WELLE: ERDBALL will present their new concept in cinemas and on stage: time travel, 50s nostalgia, analogue sounds, Commodore C64, German lyrics, “Neue Deutsche Welle” rhythms and a true new wave style – this is WELLE: ERDBALL in sound and vision!

Yendri Destination Oblivion £12.50
Review
YENDRI is a dark electro project based in Hamburg, Germany, made up of sole member Nina, who has released eight albums so far – four on Trisol and four on Mental Ulcer Forges, the label found and run by Rudy Ratzinger of WUMPSCUT. Also known as the Dark Princess of Unconventional Sounds, YENDRI offers a wide range of styles in the genre of dark electronic music, so you will love her music if you don’t want to listen to the same old stuff all over again. One of the styles is something that could be called ‘goth house’, keeping it cold and dark without loosing the funk and soul, if you need a genre for that.
Most songs are produced without any target genre in mind so be warned, there will always be some surprises. Or as YENDRI herself smartly writes on her MySpace page: “Not like NIN, not like DEPECHE MODE, not like VNV NATION, not like WUMPSCUT, not like COMBICHRIST, not even like BJÖRK… hm, maybe just a little bit, not really like COVENANT, not like APHEX TWIN… Just a very futile attempt to be creative here!”

The album features fifteen new songs and comes in a nice superjewel box with a twelve-page booklet.

Menschdefekt The Human Parasite £13.25
Review
MENSCHDEFEKT was established in Germany as a solo project of Dominik R. in 2004. In February of 2009, Fredrik became a permanent member of the lineup, as lyricist and vocalist. Stylistically the sound mainly moves between electro, industrial and gothic. However, MENSCHDEFEKT are also influenced by different genres such as trance, futurepop and others. The lyrics are deliberately constructed to be socially critical and provocative in order to reflect the name ‘Menschdefekt’. Fredrik’s vocals are aggressive, and usually significantly distorted. The lyrics deal with such topics as war, nationalism/ fascism, murder, consumer consumption and our wasteful society. The human psyche plays a major role in the development of the lyrics. Movie quotes placed in the songs add to their bizarre quality, conveying a sense of insanity and absurdity.

MENSCHDEFEKT’s first album, “Realitaetsverlust” was produced and distributed in 2006, as the result of request from a friend’s request for the album to be made. The second album “Degeneration” followed in the middle of 2007, showcasing even clearer song structures and a more sophisticated sound. MENSCHDEFEKT went on to win the AESTHETIC PERFECTION Remix Contest in March of 2008 with their version of “Schadenfreude” should have appeared on the album “A Violent Emotion”, but the bonus CD which was expected to contain the remix was never published by Bractune/Out of Line (although the remix does appear on the Japanese Limited Edition of the album from Death Watch Asia).

Since gaining first place in this remix competition, MENSCHDEFEKT’s popularity has risen astronomically. The song “Stalingrad” was created in late summer of 2008, from the mutual cooperation between MENSCHDEFEKT, STAHLNEBEL and BLACK SELKET, and proved to be MENSCHDEFEKT’s much-needed breakthrough. The track was soon playing across the dancefloors, and in a flash national as well as international clubs had jumped on the bandwagonIt is also played on different webradio programs. In August 2009 MENSCHDEFEKT finally got signed to Infacted Recordings for the release of their first official album, “The Human Parasite”.

Recoil Selected £11.75
Review
“Selected” features a selection of classic RECOIL tracks chosen by Alan Wilder himself, who says: “The collection is made up of my personal favourites, remastered and edited together into what I consider a cohesive and total listening experience.”

RECOIL was born in 1986 as a two-track experimental EP, and four albums have followed since. Over the course of the last ten years Alan has been ably accompanied by Paul Kendall who brings his own idiosyncratic view to the whole procedure. He has also been fortunate enough to cement working relationships with many writers, vocalists and musicians, most of whom appear on this new release.

Asche The Easter Island Phenomenon £13.00
Review
“The Easter Island Phenomenon” can be compared to the symptom of a disease that has existed since the beginning of mankind. As an artist that is not isolated from contemporary world history, ASCHE has devoted the title of his third full length album on the Ant-Zen label to this phenomenon. Anger, fear and anxiety are brilliantly converted into eleven powerful compositions that range from pounding rhythmic industrial anthems to menacing dark ambient soundscapes – a threatening journey between distorted disco and noise brutality. Besides the album tracks, seven like minded artists have been drafted in to reconstruct ASCHE’s message via exciting remixes (which have been added onto the cd in mp3 format) for a total of 18 tracks. All of the remix artists, except for DJ Intoner, have already been released on ASCHE’s own label (Fich-Art). This is a fantastic and long-awaited album for open minded listeners.

Shiv-r Hold My Hand £13.75
Review
SHIV-R from Australia are a breath of fresh air in the field of dark electronic music. The heavy and unsettling atmosphere generated by the band is at times intended for the clubs, and at times drawn to a slow, grinding pace for full dramatic impact. The key characteristics of the SHIV-R sound are haunting, neoclassical melodies, harsh percussive club sounds, clean male vocals delivered in shouts and whispers, sparse rhythm guitars and an overwhelming dark atmosphere. The duo consists of Lee Bulig and Pete Crane, both collaborating on the music whilst Pete takes up main vocal duties.

The two members have already built up an impressive discography prior to starting this project: Lee Bulig is the solo mastermind of projects STARK, through which he has released two albums and one MCD on GUP, and NEON WOMB, releasing one album on Cranial Fracture Recordings. Pete Crane is responsible for creating all music for THE CRYSTALLINE EFFECT, releasing two albums and one MCD on different labels, and PLAGUE SEQUENCE, with one MCD and one album released on digital labels.

SHIV-R are soon to become THE new force in electronic club music!

Arcana The First Era 1996-2002 £47.50
Review
Very few bands evoke such awe and inspiration as this Swedish act driven by the now legendary talent of Peter Bjärgö. ARCANA have been pillars of the so called neo-classical/heavenly voices movement with their poignant, ethereal and medieval-inspired music since their very first album, “Dark Age of Reason” was released in 1996 on Sweden’s Cold Meat Industry label. The subsequent of three further albums, “Cantar de Procella” (1997), “…The Last Embrace” (2000) and “Inner Pale Sun” (2002) cemented ARCANA’s position as one of the most highly-regarded and praised acts on the label.

Sorrowful strings, doomsday horns and trumpets, massive percussion and snares, bells and dulcimer – all interlaced with exquisite male and female voices create a quite singular atmosphere of grandeur and of melancholy for times long gone… ARCANA’s music leaves hardly anyone indifferent. It is able to touch and move in ways very few acts have been able to achieve, it is unique in its timelessness, and rediscovering these albums years later certainly proves this.

Now sold out for some years, these first four classic albums are being re-issued together in a special format. This 4CD box set includes all four albums in their entirety, also featuring bonus tracks taken from various compilations and mini albums covering the early days of this unique act. The first three albums have also been carefully re-mastered: “Dark Age of Reason” by Peter Bjärgö and “Cantar De Procella” and “…The Last Embrace” by Frederic Arbour. This box set is a limited edition of 2000 copies.

Release date to be confirmed – anticipated to be in early April.

Review
With over 50 million records sold worldwide, more than 100 platinum and gold awards and over 50 #1 chart positions to date, 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of producer Michael Cretu’s ENIGMA. “The Platinum Collection” comes in a 3CD format: disc one, “The Greatest Hits” features 17 of ENIGMA’s most popular and successful songs, the second CD “The Remix Collection” showcases 12 of ENIGMA’s tracks, remixed for club play, whilst disc three, “The Lost Ones” – of particular interest to Enigma fans – offers a 36-minute voyage through 11 previously unreleased drafts from Michael Cretu’s personal vault, who describes the consecutively numbered curiosities, “Lost One” to “Lost Eleven”, as: “Everything starts with trial and error. Sometimes it’s a sound, then a melody, a harmony or a mood. The ‘Lost Ones’ are my way of instrumental drafts developed from a boiling cauldron full of unordered, naive and carefree musical ideas.”

Re:\Legion State of Mind £15.25
Review
Two and half years after their successful debut album “13 seconds”, which has enriched the dark electro scene with hits like “Nachthexen”, “Legion” and “Line B”, the two legionnaires Olli and Martin have now returned from intensive studio work. The long wait for the new album has been well worth it! The sounds are clear, the vocals catchy and the songwriting is more mature. They experiment with new elements such as guitar and piano on selected tracks. However, RE:\LEGION remain loyal to their original style: a combination of hard beats with melodic and trancy synths and many facets of the broad spectrum of electronic music.

These twelve new songs spark a firework of danceable club tracks and catchy melodies which will move your body. Songs such as “Persona Non Grata” and “Sick and Destroyed” are potential dark electro hits and will once again fill the dancefloors of the scene, while poppy songs such as “Golden Years” and “8′ 21″ from the Sun” impress with their harmonious atmosphere. Yet again, by providing “Trance: Formation”, the only instrumental track on the CD, RE:\LEGION deliver their mandatory trance piece as well.

Various Artists Some Kind of Goth II £14.75
Review
This CD continues the story of the first (deleted) volume and presents some exclusive highlights of the dark independent scene. The purpose of ‘Goth’ in this context is to be taken as its original meaning, offering fifteen guitar-based songs full of passion that reflect the wide variety of the genre itself.

The first track from FAITH AND THE MUSE shows the entire potential to create an atmospheric miracle. The CD carries on with bands like THE HOUSE OF USHER, BREATH OF LIFE, IKON, THE LAST DANCE or POTENTIA ANIMI who proceed with a very powerful compositions. Amongst those who have made their way up already, the CD also offers rare diamonds from some newcomers – for example DEVILISH PRESLEY and GRYN AAP who present their very own interpretation of goth with guitar and harp sounds.

Whether rock with SEPULCRUM MENTIS, classic post-punk with JOY DISASTER or soft and passionate with LUCAS LANTHIER/CINEMA STRNGE, either way “Some Kind of Goth II” offers a wide variety, which is perfection right up unto the last detail. The CD is dedicated “In Memoriam” to DJ Pandora, a girl who worked as gig promoter and DJ in the German city of Greifswald and who died after a short sickness.

Whispers In The Shadow The Eternal Arcane £15.25
Review
WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW return with their sixth regular studio album – the second part of a mystical-occult four-album series which is based on a common theme of this genre and which has been successfully performed by bands like THE SISTERS OF MERCY (“Floodland”), FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM (“Elizium”) and the well-known genre icons GARDEN OF DELIGHT. With the eleven new songs WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW demonstrate that they are still capable of adding new elements to the gothic rock genre, even after thirteen years of band history. The musical spectrum of the new album follows the path of its predecessor “Into the Arms of Chaos” but extends it to a new level of sound and songwriting. As well as a sprinkling of their well-known ten-minute epics such as “The Lost Souls” and “From Aeon to Aeon”, the album also presents even darker and heavier tunes like “Blood, Sweat and Tears” for which the Whispers made their first official video.

Lost Area Memoria £15.25
Review
“Memoria” is LOST AREA’s third album and features rhythmic and futuristic electronic soundscapes in the best tradition of VNV NATION or early FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY, combined with touching vocals and lyrics. With the unique and variable voice of frontman Markus Bär, Andi Grundler’s raw dark voice, and concisely guitar tunes, LOST AREA define their own style of electro/EBM. With this release, the band has shown a noticeable development in composition and production sound quality, resulting in a highly ambitious, catchy and danceable album. Gerrit Thomas (FUNKER VOGT), a well known producer, is responsible for the crystal clear and powerful sound. Gerrit’s influence on the album, with his ideas and sound concepts, has improved the overall quality and extracted the full potential of the three-piece band. One result of this collaboration is the club-hit potential of songs like “Lies” – and many others.

Front 242 Moments in Budapest £24.50
Review
FRONT 242’s “Vintage Tour” concept was so well-received across the globe that it is actually still running today… During the last couple of years, Belgium’s very own pioneers of electronic music, FRONT 242, have performed live in front of many thousands of fans, all impressed by the early electronic music atmosphere they bring to the stage through the good old analogue sequences the band has reloaded to match the spirit of their time… FRONT 242 indeed come from a different time, when working with electronic music was difficult, the machines were hostile and humans needed to interact strongly with synthesizers to master their art – music required discipline.

Here Patrick Codenys, Daniel B., Jean-Luc De Meyer and Richard Jonkheere offer us yet another treasure: the very first live moments in the band’s history, filmed in Budapest, Hungary on December 6th 2008 by the amazing team of Steve’s Black Head Agency. We invite you to discover this exceptional second official live DVD, immortalizing once more the legend and genius of FRONT 242. 81 minutes of live material plus some extras including interviews and a photo gallery.

This limited first edition of just 4000 copies worldwide includes an exclusive FRONT 242 metal pin, an embroidered “Helicopter 242” military patch, a printed card and an Alfa Matrix “Sounds from the Matrix” label compilation.

Templebeat The Grey Space £14.75
Review
Here at last, recovered from early 90s tape releases, we find eleven unmissable tracks signed by the cult band TEMPLEBEAT (from defunct Machinery/Dynamica label), now collected and remastered on CD. Eleven gems, among which emerge timeless fascinating tracks like “Human”, “Drugs” and “Refuse It”. Only few of these tracks (“Interzone”, “Human”…) appeared later on TEMPLEBEAT’s smash album “Black Suburbia” on Dynamica. A much overdue rescue for this band that almost 20 years ago conceived their own unique and inimitable brand of electro-industrial/EBM, pioneering a style contaminated with incredible post-modern suggestions, sci-fi, horror and pornographic visions. This CD contains eight tracks originally published on the “Interzone” tape, two tracks taken from an Italian compilation and a cover of DAF’s “Der Mussolini” released on the “V.I.T.R.I.O.L. #3” split-tape. Essential!

System Syn Strangers £12.50
Review
Since the project’s inception in 1997 by musician and painter Clint Carney, SYSTEM SYN’s repertoire has grown to five albums, three EPs and more than a dozen remixes for leading Electro acts, as well as a myriad of compilation contributions.

The intensity and variety of this album is bound to turn heads, and should do wonders for the artist’s somewhat meagre European presence. Its spectrum covers slow, dark melancholic tracks, well-arranged electro-pop songs, and a fair sprinkling electro-industrial club floor-fillers such as “Here’s to Go”, “Chemical”, “The Inconvenient” and “Curtain Call”.

The cover and booklet art were painted by Carney himself are also sure to please art aficionados. But anyone looking at the cover and expecting dark or even aggressive sounds will be mistaken. Although all the songs carry a definite dark romantic and melancholic flair, one will find closer parallels to the works of FADERHEAD, DEPECHE MODE, PROJECT PITCHFORK, SEABOUND and DE/VISION.

The clear line on “Strangers” is built around Clint Carney’s great vocal style. Lyrically, he deals with dark impressions and relationship issues, which SYSTEM SYN superbly sets to music.

Lowness Undertow £13.00
Review
LOWNESS is the one-man project of Seattle’s Scott Sturgis, a musician active since the mid-90s with projects like CONVERTER, DBS and PAIN STATION. Although LOWNESS has existed since the end of 2005, Sturgis took the time needed to make the first LOWNESS release. Inspired by artists as disparate as CHROME, NEU!, PINK FLOYD, HARMONIA, BLACK WIDOW and AMON DÜÜL II, the album can be described as an ambient industrial psychedelic hybrid. Driving r-box beats, swirling synth dots, mighty, pulsing sub-basses and slicing guitar drones result in dark, hypnotic rhythmic soundscapes with a nightmarish, and in places, exotic feel. Detailed post-rock instrumentation, subtle electronic textures and often tribalistic grooves melt into one-of-a-kind compositions created with strings and keys. LOWNESS’ direction reflects an original take on familiar genre themes, but pushes way beyond specific genre trappings by tossing aside the clichés and commonality to focus on the raw emotion involved in creating music. Devastating and chilling at the same time, “Undertow” is an album recommended for intense listening in the night time, just before dawn…

Ginormous The Sound of Love Impermanent £13.00
Review
“A few years ago, I was introduced to the choreography of Maria Gillespie and her company “Oni Dance”. I immediately connected with Maria’s work, and was especially drawn to her music selections. I gave Maria my first two albums and some months later (summer 2006), she incorporated my track ‘To Reveal Interiors’ into her beautiful, haunting piece ‘La Hora de Salir’. It was the first time that I had seen dance choreographed to my music. Some years later, Maria mentioned she was working on a new piece and asked if I would write the entire score. She was accustomed to creating choreography first and adding music late in the process, but with this new work she wanted to start with the music and use that as inspiration for the choreography. I said yes on the spot and started working the next day, even before I had the benefit of Maria’s direction. The dance, titled ‘The Splendor of Gretel’, premiered to a sold-out audience at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood. Seeing Maria’s stunning work set to the music I created for her that night was a deeply moving experience.” – Bryan Konietzko, December 2009

Even if you will never have the opportunity to watch the dance score, this album works perfectly as a mindscape soundtrack. Electronic sounds, classical strings, guitars and gentle vocals are the components for this fascinating work of art. Stylistically, “The Sound of Love Impermanent” can be described as an amalgam of ambient and contemporary orchestral music enriched with the addition of post-rock structures. A remarkable release by a well-respected artist – give it a try!

Bitcrush Of Embers £16.75
Review
Mike Cadoo’s (ex-GRIDLOCK) BITCRUSH project returns with his sixth album. “Of Embers” is his most intimate album and continues with the very personal cathartic nature we have come to expect. Cadoo has always transitioned between and fused together diverse styles seamlessly and with each album has moved the BITCRUSH meme towards his personal needs of expression. “Of Embers” begins where the “Epilogue in Waves” song “Pearl” left us. Presented here are longer movements, each progressing and telling their story patiently using the sound that has become the BITCRUSH norm. Here we find Cadoo looking even further back into his experiences and inner struggles to create what may be the most hopeful album of his musical career – an hour in length, yet boasting only six tracks; three tracks over ten minutes and two that approach fifteen minutes.

Blood Axis Born Again £16.25
Review
There will be at least one resurrection on Easter Sunday, 2010, when BLOOD AXIS unveil their latest work, “Born Again”. The second full-length studio album in the group’s twenty-year history signals startling developments and a radical maturation. Old vines have been cut back and carefully tended in order to bear strange new fruit. Over the course of the twelve tracks that comprise “Born Again”, BLOOD AXIS explore an epic yet human universe in which gods are summoned, kingdoms rise, riddles are unlocked, love is lost, and worlds crumble. This is psychedelia in the literal sense: a ‘mind-manifesting’ journey through the collective psyche of its creators.

“Born Again” weaves a web of potent pleasures. Whereas the earliest BLOOD AXIS music was marked by keyboards and samples, in 2010 the sound is stripped down to an essential core of natural instrumentation, but with force and bombast fully intact. The sonic ingredients on this release include electric and acoustic strings (guitar, violin, bass, bouzouki, banjo), melodeon, piano, highland bagpipes and Galician gaita, marching percussion, the mysterious Annabel-a-tron, and Bobby BeauSoleil’s growling, prison-vintage guitar eruptions circa 1976. Underpinning the album and propelling much of the music is the traditional Irish drum the bodhrán, recorded here with unprecedented power. Moynihan’s ominous voice is well matched by Annabel Lee’s elfin intonations, just as her violin finds a perfect counterpoint in Robert Ferbrache’s protean guitar parts. A selective cabal of guest musicians from Europe and the USA add tasteful embellishments to these deceptively simple arrangements. Shot through by myth and romance, the expressive lyrics on “Born Again” have their roots in ancient and modern poetry, archaic invocations, and tragic laments. Alongside modern English and German, songs are sung in medieval 10th century Old English and 13th century Middle High German. The end result is both unclassifiable and unforgettable: neither folk nor rock, traditional nor avant-garde, modern nor archaic. It is simply BLOOD AXIS.

“Born Again” was recorded over a span of many years in remote locations ranging from rural Vermont to the catacombs of Absinthe Studios in Denver, Colorado. Engineered and produced by founding BLOOD AXIS member Ferbrache, the dense sonic tapestry of the album is simultaneously raw and refined, synergistically more than the sum of its primal parts. Packaged in a beautiful foil-blocked gatefold cover, “Born Again” includes a 24-page booklet with complete lyrics and translations, striking portraits of the band members, and solemn photographic images from France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, and the USA.

To everything there is season. For those who are cursed, a time to die and to be forgotten. And for the blessed, a time to be born again: to live on, beyond death, in the minds of men.

Now is the time for BLOOD AXIS to be Born Again.

Schwarzer Engel Apokalypse £13.75
Review
Above the ravaged battlefields of human civilisation, ‘the lord of the crows’ arises: a black angel (Schwarzer Engel in German) – menacing yet beautiful; alarming and full of fury; fascinating and disturbing. Driving drums, dark guitar riffs, bombastic orchestral percussion and charismatic vocals condense into a mixture the likes of which there has never been before, guaranteed to stir the blood of every fan of dark, aggressive and melodic music. Established somewhere between the wild energy of acts such as CRADLE OF FILTH, the menacing metal bombast of DIMMU BORGIR, the melodic rocking fascination of ASP and the dazzling concept of SAMSAS TRAUM, the ‘black angel’ pursues completely new paths. A new dimension opens up, consisting of catchy, aggressive melodies, emotive full stereo-spectrum sounds, driving rhythms and varied arrangements enriched by intelligent German lyrics. The soundtrack to the apocalypse. An album like a film. The music for the last days. The destruction of all that which has gone before, the beauty of the world’s end, the re-creation of a world after the fallout. Sometimes things must be destroyed in order that the new may emerge. Follow ‘the lord of the crows’ along the dark path into the bewildering world beyond.

With “The Ride” British band RESIST present their label debut, which was produced in Manchester by “Ding” (who has worked with the likes of PJ HARVEY and FRANK BLACK amongst others). Spark! Genom Stormen £6.50
Review
Swedish duo SPARK! (Mattias Ziessow – music and Stefan Brorsson – vocals) have taken the EBM scene by storm over the last couple of years. Their intense music combined with energetic live performances have quickly brought them to the top of scene. With this new release the band take a huge step forward in their evolution to perfect their sound and vision. Mixing the old, hard Electronic Body Music with a more modern pop approach they have created their own personal style of music. Mattias’ fantastic feel for melodies and Stefan’s strong vocals performed in Swedish blend together in perfect harmony. The alterntive dancefloors around the globe will reach the boiling point when the hard driving beats starts to punch away.

Indeed, SPARK! are the perfect illustration of the label Progress Productions’ slogan… “Born/Evolve/Progress” SPARK! have evolved for sure… and there is no place to hide. The term ‘old school EBM’ just took a huge step forward. A step towards something new.

Besides the original versions of “Genom Stormen” and “Tankens Mirakel” this EP also presents two remixes, by well-known acts LEÆTHER STRIP and Jouni Ollila from PROJECT-X.

Emilie Autumn Opheliac [Deluxe Second Edition] £16.86
Review
COURTNEY LOVE’s ‘anarchy violinist’ EMILIE AUTUMN returns to the digital and physical shelves with her European smash “Opheliac”. Updated and expanded for North American release, this new second ‘deluxe’ edition (and fourth version of “Opheliac” altogether!) features six additional songs and lots of never-before-available video footage – over 2 hours of goth-tastic pleasure. And this time around Emilie is keeping the spotlight all to herself. With appearances on Leno and Letterman already under her corset, glossy magazine covers, and guest spots on albums by artists as varied as OTEP, BILLY CORGAN, COURTNEY LOVE, as well as TV’s Metalocalypse, Autumn’s devilishly dark lyrics, metal-shredding violin solos, and industrial-strength voice reinvent ‘gothic’ for the masses… and goths have never had so much fun.

Visually and sonicly compelling, Autumn was recently chosen by Interview Magazine as one of their “14 Artists to Watch”. The Los Angeles-born starlet’s theatrical stage show is a sexy circus of glam-rock burlesque, backed by her evocatively-clad girl entourage “The Bloody Crumpets”. Written in the style she calls “Victoriandustrial”, “Opheliac” is a magnificent musical miasma reflecting Autumn’s life: a child-prodigy’s classical training and performances in the concert halls of the world, a passion for industrial and metal, and of course all things Vaudeville! Bravely and humorously addressing subject matter ranging from depression (with the harpsichord-driven “Opheliac”) to self-mutilation (“Liar”), sexual abuse (“Gothic Lolita”), suicide (“The Art of Suicide”) and Autumn’s real-life experience as a psych ward inmate (“Thank God I’m Pretty”), “Opheliac” is truly a reflection of all of us!

The results are in; with Vaudevillian appeal, Autumn’s signature electric violin, heartbreakingly lush orchestrations, hard-core beats, and intense lyricicsm, “Opheliac” is the musical calling card for the blue-black set! The finest harpsichord-heavy romp through soundscapes at midnight!

Lacrimosa Sehnsucht (Limited Edition) £17.11
Review
Lacrimosa in their own words about “Sehnsucht”:

“Four years ago we released ‘Lichtgestalt’ our latest studio album, followed by our 18 month tour across the globe, where we had so many engraving and unforgettable moments with our audience from Berlin to Moscow and from Peking to Buenos Aires. A lot of these impressions were featured in the concert movie ‘Lichtjahre’. After all, these people, their emotions and fascination for our music left their marks which led to a strong relation with them and became an exciting source of inspiration for us. Therefore we are delighted that on 8th of May 2009 we will release our new studio album, whose musical and emotional content is centered in one word, which, in the diversity of the individual perception, always stays unequivocal in its basis and therefore represents the perfect title for this album: ‘Sehnsucht’!” (meaning yearning/longing).

This Special Edition has the same track listing as the Regular Edition but will contain ALTERNATIVE versions of certain songs. Exactly which songs will be different is not known yet, but Tilo of LACRIMOSA will be revealing this information in a few weeks.

Perfidious Words Feel Like Me £13.03
Review
A cult band who almost slipped into oblivion return with a magnificent new album. PERFIDIOUS WORDS present what is only their third studio album in ten years, but some things need time in order to become fully realised. “Feel Like Me” is not only fully realised: it’s perfect! An accomplished electro-pop album which will satisfy the longing of many fans. Whereas some bands have spent years indulging in wild experiments or creating generic chart-friendly mush, PERFIDIOUS WORDS create music which is a perfect mixture of the danceable, the sensitive and the catchy, without spillingn over into the realms of triviality. Warm, dark vocals combine with insanely catchy synth sounds to form a fervent album of electronic music. Full of spirit, full of sounds; exactly that which every electro-pop fan has waited in vain for years for…

Here it is! The ultimate work, which shows that after over 20 years, this genre is a long way from coming to an end. Those who liked the early works of YAZOO and ERASURE can’t afford to pass this electro-pop pearl by. These aren’t the ‘sounds of the universe’, simply single stars in the dark sky of electronic music, which shine all the brighter for it!

In addition to the CD, the album comes with an 80 minute DVD, which proves beyond doubt that PERFIDIOUS WORDS are exceptional musicians who understand their craft. With this concert recording, some studio sessions and a video clip, people will be asking themselves in astonishment where this band have been during these last few years in which we mourned the old gods, who with their most recent releases only disappointed.

Calle Della Morte Gente di Malaffare (Re-release) £18.14
Review
Finally available again, the debut full-length CD by CALLE DELLA MORTE, originally released in April 2005 and since long-deleted. This second print is a completely new edition and includes a bonus CD-R called “Come Te Go Fato Te Desfo”, featuring 40 minutes of previously unreleased music, tracks from compilations, live tracks and remixes.

After numerous Vinyl-only releases on HauRuck, Old Europa Café and other cult labels, “Gente di Malaffare” was the first full-length album for this gifted neo-folk act from Venice, Italy. The songs are based on ancient Venetian legends, mixed with other influences as a result of the consumption of a lot of red wine! A very unique Folk style with a rock touch: nude & crude!

Noisuf-X Excessive Exposure £19.75
Review
NOISUF-X’s mastermind Jan L has been active on the electronic borderline between techno and EBM/electro since 1988. So far he has released four highly-acclaimed albums under the moniker of NOISUF-X which rightly gave him a place among the top acts of these genres. After several live performances (among others at the Summer Darkness, the Gothic Festival and the Powerstrip Festival with LEÆTHER STRIP) the new work by NOISUF-X now appears. The release is entitled “Excessive Exposure” and comes out on the first of April though it is no April fool’s joke to be sure! The album will excite the masses and shaking, crowded dance floors are inevitable. This uncompromising catchy and danceable club material is far ahead of its rivals.

The limited edition box set comes with a four-tracks bonus CD entitled “Excessive Extension” which includes guest vocals by two highly respected musicians – Peter Spilles (PROJECT PITCHFORK) and Johan van Roy (SUICIDE COMMANDO). A must-have for all industrial-electro fans!

Alter Der Ruine This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things £14.50
Review
ProNoize as a label is known for the aggressive sound and ALTER DER RUINE are not a band to compromise that foundation. Mixing elements of industrial, techno, hardcore, IDM and house, ALTER DER RUINE have become known for their viscous blending of genres and intense energy. After three albums, three EPs, numerous remix appearances and over 100 live shows to date, ALTER DER RUINE and ProNoize are ready to show Europe what they can do.

Yes, America’s flagship in terms of Industrial has finally made it across the Atlantic. “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” contains their best songs which have so far only been released in the USA. Merciless, loud, quirky, a bit gaga and refreshingly different.

This limited edition includes a bonus CD with exclusive mixes from AESTHETIC PERFECTION, HAUJOBB, NOISUF-X and ASSEMBLAGE 23.

Les Jumeaux Discordants Sang pour Sang £13.75
Review
An amazing new signing on Athanor – the first in 2 years on the label that has been active since 1995 and has become famous and highly respected for countless legendary releases (MYSTERIA MITHRAE, LUCIFER RISING, GOLGATHA, LES JOYEUX DE LA PRINCESSE/BLOOD AXIS, TRIBE OF CIRCLE… to name just a few).

“Sang pour Sang” is the scond opus from LES JUMEAUX DISCORDANTS after their sold out and highly-acclaimed EP on HauRuck!SPQR/Misty Circles. The recording is based on the ancient concepts of Katàbasis and Anàbasis and is divided into two sections: the first is dominated by obscure and sinister atmospheres; the second is more lyrical.

Musically, “Sang pour Sang” is the perfect balance between the best neoclassical ambiances and martial industrial with an Art Nouveau touch. LES JUMEAUX DISCORDANTS follow, both musically and spiritually, in the tradition of Italian ritualistic and electronic formations like T.A.C., or KIRLIAN CAMERA’s “Schmerz” period, the kind of mixture that made famous the likes of LES JOYAUX DE LA PRINCESSE, CAMERATA MEDIOLANENSE, LES SENTIERS CONFLICTUELS, BLOOD AXIS, IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES and DEAD CAN DANCE. This band might be the one we have been waiting for since the split of THE MOON LAY BENEATH A CLOUD.

The Beauty Of Gemina At the End of the Sea £12.75
Review
On “At the End of the Sea”, their third long player, THE BEAUTY OF GEMINA have chosen an itinerary which is loaded with far more rock elements, placing an emphasis on powerful guitar sounds stirred with a shot of gloomy electro, thus displaying an almost inexhaustible spectrum of expressive melodies and compositional refinement. The thirteen dense, hypnotic tracks are highly addictive. THE BEAUTY OF GEMINA possess a range of unique elements: the dark, intense and unmistakable voice of Michael Sele hovers impressively over the music conferring the songs an anthem-like complexion, gloomy aggressivenesss and emotional depth, according to the relative arrangement. The dark and poetic lyrics composed by Michael tell touching stories and are of cardinal importance to the album.

Arian 1 Immersion £12.50
Review
ARIAN 1, one of the longest living and most successful electro bands in Latin America, are back with a new album entitled “Immersion”, bringing with them raw EBM sounds along with the best of new electro and making this album one of ground-shaking proportions.

Named after the French space program and rocket – a reference to ever-changing and evolving technology – ARIAN 1 took shape in 1992 in the city of Lima. They began as most musicians of the time, in garage bands, trying out the different trends and sounds of the underground scene. Their experiments with different styles of electronic music led them to converge on a style that would later be defined as “EBM”. The “Immersion” album summarizes a musical activity that comes from years of production, observation and participation, along with many rehearsals and live concerts.

Cervello Elettronico Process of Elimination £14.75
Review
“Process of Elimination” is the title and inspiration behind CERVELLO ELETTRONICO’s new release. Each song on the album demonstrates alienation and chaos in a way which reveals the obvious end of a musical journey. From hard rhythmic experimental beats to pulsating electro EBM bass lines, this latest effort displays a new polished sound for the project while keeping its unique raw, harsh sound. Clever sampling and sound design showcase CERVELLO ELETTRONICO’s particular type of intelligent dance music, establishing a different sound in its own genre by pushing boundaries. At the same time “Process of Elimination” pays tribute to old-school techno and the industrial pioneers through careful execution and sometimes a hint of satire.

These fourteen tracks include guest vocals from Karloz M of MANUFACTURA, UBERBYTE’s Richard Pyne, and Ben Arp from American industrial dance act C/A/T. It also features remixes exclusive to the European release from French breakbeat artist ZELLER and EBM/industrial act AESTHETIC PERFECTION.

The Lovecrave Soul Saliva £13.25
Review
The story of THE LOVECRAVE was born amongst the metropolitan ashes of the big city, Milan, united with the ancient and silent atmosphere of Venice. What THE LOVECRAVE were looking for during the recordings was a rough, elegant and new sound, but at the same time taking inspiration from a wide range of artists from IRON MAIDEN to the eighties sound of DEPECHE MODE, curing every detail but trying to leave that instinctive and rough edge untouched. They created in their minds a sort of Blade Runner-like world and tried to put music into it. All this can be found on their 2006 debut “The Angel and the Rain”, which was an instant success with fans and media alike and for which the band was awarded “Best Italian Band” on International Ground at the MEI (Independent labels meeting in Italy). Since the release of that alubm, THE LOVECRAVE have toured in Germany with Canadian labelmates THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE, played as headliners at the famous Camden Underworld in London, recorded four acoustic tracks for Total Rock Radio in London, played as headliners at the Alcatraz, the biggest club in Milan, building up a very solid fan base.

Now, four years later, THE LOVECRAVE are ready for the burst with their new songs and more tours and festivals planned for 2010 and 2011. Yes, THE LOVECRAVE are back, with a brand new album, “Soul Saliva”, a masterpiece of original modern rock with great personality and awesome songwriting. After three years of hard work on the production the band is ready to take a higher flight with their original bursting sound, which has become much more compact, powerful and
mature through the years, thanks to the tours, the festivals and the friendship that binds the musicians together in a very solid way.

With “Soul Saliva”, THE LOVECRAVE will show that no other band sounds like them and will bring you into their world like a hurricane! Get ready to bleed with rough hard rock riffs and get ready to cry with magical sounds hanging from the sky – all of this is “Soul Saliva”…! Deep, modern, angry… and rock! A real must-have for your CD collection and for your heart.

Noblesse Oblige Malady £13.25
Review
Two years after the release of “In Exile”, NOBLESSE OBLIGE release their third album “Malady”, an occult concept album that cites the visual mysticism of Kenneth Anger, Aleister Crowley’s storytelling, and the morbid melancholy of Christina Rossetti’s poetry. The album’s title, inspired by Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s film “Tropical Malady”, a modern day ghost story set in the jungle of Thailand, symbolises mental afflictions and dark temptations of the heart expressed in eerie tales of Voodoo gods, soul electrification, and tropical fevers.

Further inspiration was the Voodoo literature by Haitian writer Rene Depestre and readings of field research work by anthropologist E.E. Evans-Pritchard and his studies of witchcraft and magic among African tribes. The aura of these texts and stories have been incorporated in many of the new songs while Valerie, who during her teenage years lived on the French Carribean island of Martinique – one of the heartlands of Voodoo pratice – worked up her own memories of myths and stories told by the locals, including her Voodoo priestess neighbour. Fittingly, the production of the album also features several exotic ingredients such as timbales and ukulele in continuation of the band’s use of world music sounds, mixed with their tradional blend of kitsch and new wave theatricality – for as dark its subject matter is, “Malady” contains some NOBLESSE OBLIGE’s most melodic and poppy moments yet.

Just like its predecessor, “Malady” was recorded at the band’s own studio in Berlin. Using voices, acoustic guitar, drum machine, live percussion and only sparse electronics, it features N.O.’s most stripped down and acoustic production to date, based on a series of live-take recordings and minimal post-production. The album artwork features photography made in collaboration with Bulgarian artist Kiril Bikov, who has accurately captured “Malady”‘s romantic gloom, incorporating all the elements referred to on the album.

Orange Sector Krieg & Frieden £13.75
Review
“Krieg & Frieden” is ORANGE SECTOR’s eighth studio release to date. The Hannover-based EBM force return with an album that is true to their EBM roots, in the vein of previous opuses “Faith” (1993) and “Flashback” (1993).

“Krieg & Frieden” (‘War & Peace’) is pure EBM with hard-hitting sequencer lines and energetic drum programming. EBM at its best, compareable to early NITZER EBB and straight DAF. The band will tour Germany in April as special guest on the FRONT 242 “Vintage Tour” 2010. Don’t miss this great opportunity to see two EBM legends live!

FLORENCE FOSTER FAN CLUB, or FFFC for short, released their first album “Everyday Theatre” on the Brazilian label Wave records. It is composed of tracks produced between 2006 and present.

Songs range from straightforward old-school EBM to crisp electro-pop with a dark twist. They present a deeply personal, confessional world that intertwines with cold, analytical observations and sarcastic remarks. It is a world where technology interacts with unknown voices from the ether. The voices whisper to the ears of two band members, both composers, singers and lyricists. Nostalgia for the world that never happened is maybe the best description of the feeling that the album is based on.

However most of the tracks are energetic and rhythmically tight and authors wanted them to function well on multiple levels. Some are more dancefloor-inclined, some atmospheric and slower, keeping the balance of the album as a whole. Influences range from the Belgian bands of the 80s to a more darkwave touch in some tracks – beautiful melodies and clear voices with great lyrics. Pay particular attention to “Market”, “Nightshift”, “Weapon of Choice” and “Message”.

Nahtaivel Killer Speaks [Brazilian Import] £11.00
Review
New sensation of the Brazilian dark/industrial scene, for lovers of bands like DAS ICH, HOCICO, SUICIDE COMMANDO, WUMPSCUT and PSYCLON NINE. We also see here influences from the black metal scene, resulting in an original sound like no other.

This CD contains fourteen songs of dark electro, industrial and EBM, making impressive use of melody and sound layers, and presented with great weight and technique. Lyrics deal with violent, obscure and controversial topics, sung in a very aggressive form, through a distorted voice. Each song has a very specific personality, varying greatly in speed, melody and tone over the course of the album. Yet tying everything together are the marked synthesizer lines and the profane atmosphere that pervades the whole.

“Killer Speaks” is highly recommended to all who appreciate dark and aggressive electronic music.

Pecadores Rogai Por Nós, Pecadores! [Brazilian Import] £13.75
Review
Two years after their debut album “10% for Jesus”, the Brazilian band PECADORES are back with a new CD.

To understand the band’s concept one must learn about its general context: PECADORES isn’t only music, it’s theatre, behaviour, and social criticism. It’s impossible to fit PECADORES’ sonority into any style previously known. PECADORES go far beyond pigeonholes, and the band themselves don’t classify their music as either EBM or industrial. Although it has an electronic basis, the style is very diverse; it goes from goth to industrial to electro and back again. The lyrics tell a lot about the reality of Brazilian religions which very often exploits the poorest and most desperate people, those looking for miracles to sort out their problems. Opportunism feeding on ignorance.

However, the band also possess a great sense of humour, usually a dark one, as demonstrated the tone of the lyrics, and the nature of their live concerts, which are attended by a legion of fans in PECADORES’ homeland. These live concerts are the band’s highlight. In a musical environment where lack of creativity very often prevails, PECADORES create a unique musicality from different elements, bringing something new to the underground scene, including lots of samples taken from local cults and Brazilian percussion together with electronic drums. Listeners will find Brazilian mysticism in PECADORES’ peculiar songs, never seen before in the goth/industrial scene.

Autumn falls, confusing the senses, casting nature’s elements in tenuous traces and carving deeply into the soul. “Outlining States of Mind” mixes four distinguished personalities, delineating sensations and guiding fate. Darkwave, ethereal, gothic rock, neo-classical? No, just SCARLET LEAVES…

Beata Beatrix In the Garden of Ecstasy [Brazilian Import] £11.00
Review
Debut album from this great Italian band mixing gothic rock/darkwave and synth soundscapes.

BEATA BEATRIX sprang into existence in the year 2000, the brainchild of the current bassist, Crowley. The band’s name refers to the famous picture painted by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

After recording three self-produced demos, “Elisheba” (2003), “Delirium & Love” (2006), and “Malinconica Autunno” (2008), which have all received critical acclaim, the band will now release their first official album through the Brazilian label Wave Records.

Musically, “In the Garden of Ecstasy” is a mix of English gothic rock from the 80s and 90s, German darkwave and EBM. The album comprises sixteen tracks (including some demo versions) with lyrics encompassing traditional gothic themes, and a beautiful vocal score, at once theatrical and desperate, full of moments of classical virtuosity.
