Welcome to our weekly round-up of forthcoming releases.
“Modern Ruin” is the latest chapter in COVENANT’s epic adventure – their seventh studio album. As you travel through the ever-changing soundscape of “Modern Ruin” you get pummeled by frantic beats, lured astray by soothing melodies, drowned in the static noise of furious machines, gently carried along the streams of unknown waveforms and confused by contradictions. The limited edition digipak includes an exclusive bonus CD featuring an additional track from the massively successful German movie “Wir Sind die Nacht” (‘We Are the Night’).

EDGE OF DAWN return with the biggest hit, “Stage Fright”, from the latest album, which spent the entire summer in the DAC charts. The EP features two remixes of the title song along with several brand new unreleased tracks. Daniel Myer (HAUJOBB/DESTROID) contributes a remix of “In Your Sleep”, alongside mixes from STERIL, ROTERSAND, CRYO and ACRETONGUE.

KLAUS SCHULZE performed in Tokyo in March of 2010 and “Big in Japan” is a live 2CD & DVD set of these concerts. The DVD gives you the perfect vision of these intense and atmospheric performances. Already released in Japan as a limited box set, the European version is slightly different. “La Vie Electronique 8” has also been released recently, covering a selection of material that was archived alongside his official albums from 1977-83. A large part of this 3CD set is made up of concert recordings from Klaus’ 1979 tour with singer ARTHUR BROWN.

“The Dissolving Satellite of Egoism Overturned (The Nude Acoustic Verandah Sessions)” is a long overdue collection of ‘acoustic’ tracks by SNOG. Remastered with love and care from the original tapes, assembled after hours spent delving into the vaults, here is a SNOG you might never have thought existed – ragged yet sincere, angry yet tender and heartfelt.

Originally released in March, and quickly sold out, here now is the new “Dorotabo Edition” of FAITH & THE MUSE’s latest album in a CD-sized digibook. “:Ankoku Butoh:” contains a brand new thirteen-song studio album, a concert film, unreleased album videos, interviews and extras.

UNTOTEN, the masters of melancholic dark chansons, now return with TWO different albums – both strictly limited to 999 copies only. “Haus der Lüge” is a sort of ‘return to the roots’, in a desctinct electro/rock style, whilst “Liebe Oder Tod” offers more dreamy, romantic tracks full of deepest melancholy and sad feelings.

INERTIA are back with the brand new album “Deworlded” – the result of three years working in the studio developing the band’s songwriting and production techniques, bringing together a unique mix of electronic sequences, harsh rhythms, crunching guitars and dark song structures to present the band’s best work to date.

ANGELS ON ACID’s second full length album “Blood, Sweat and Tears” shows the maturity of their signature sound, painting an introspective and grim picture of humanity’s future. The album has something for every electronica fan, fusing elements of dark electro, harsh ebm, synthpop and metal.

BLACK LUNG adds a bloody new chapter to his towering discography with “The Soul Consumer”. Darkly playful, twistedly uplifting, noisily organic, this album is a ride as wild as the sessions that saw its inception. Also released at the same time is “The First Tender Cut”, which features all-exclusive material not included on the new album

Although this is the first cooperation between Armin Kuester and Daniel Galda, both musicians have already successfully participated in numerous other projects such as DAS ICH, CARLOS PERÓN, KALTE FARBEN and SKORBUT. After publishing a first limited club EP, DE:AD:CIBEL now presents “Klondike” – thirteen ruthless electro EBM tracks, which balance perfectly between a hard club sound, industrial and floating electro/futurepop.

Once again, BLACK RAIN invite you to take part in their strange Christmas world with “Black Snow Vol. 2”. Join artists like TYSKE LUDDER, FEINDFLUG, LEAETHER STRIP, ATOMIC NEON and PSYBORG CORP on a Christmas journey you will never forget. This great mixture of cover versions and individual compositions will show you a different kind of Christmas (the first one was very good).

The excellent UNSCENE magazine is back with issue 9, and there’s a new UK magazine, covering the north – SOUNDSPHERE.

Gig!

Just the one added again, but a very strong line-up with DAF, LEAETHER STRIP, INERTIA & MECHANICAL CABARET playing London in March

Covenant Modern Ruin £12.25
Review
“Modern Ruin” is the latest chapter in COVENANT’s epic adventure in time and space. A band that has consistently made references to being in motion, physical and mental travel, exploration of the hidden and the unknown. And again they have wondrous tales to tell us.

Imagine a broken escalator coming up through the underbrush of a forest, stretching towards the treetops, no second floor left to receive its long-gone passengers. In the background, among the trees, you can make out the steel skeleton of what was once a great building, perhaps the transit hall of an airport. Once this was a busy hub filled with people going places. Now Mother Nature is recycling the remains, in her infinitely slow but irresistible way. What happened here? How did it happen? Or, perhaps, could it be that nothing ever did happen the way it was intended to?

These are among the questions asked by COVENANT on their seventh studio album “Modern Ruin”. A title that implies a whole range of possible scenarios: a romantic lament over an epoch of optimism; a sense of imminent doom; futuristic archaeology; a cheeky comment on the state of the modern world…

What do the band think? They won’t tell. So we’re left to explore for ourselves and there is a lot to discover among the ruins. As you travel through the ever-changing soundscape of “Modern Ruin” you get pummeled by frantic beats, lured astray by soothing melodies, drowned in the static noise of furious machines, gently carried along the streams of unknown waveforms, confused by contradictions. But you’re never completely lost. There are familiar landmarks as well. They may not look exactly like they used to, but they are enough to guarantee safe navigation.

Edge Of Dawn Stage Fright £8.75
Review
“Anything That Gets You Through the Night” was the unusual title of the second EDGE OF DAWN album, a collaboration between the creative force of Mario Schumacher and SEABOUND vocalist/psychology professor Frank M. Spinath. Released at the end of May, the album won much praise from fans and press alike and quickly found its way to the top of the DAC. Darkly hypnotic, this technically and stylistically mature album delivered a surprising number of melodic hits for electro-industrial clubs, chief among them “Stage Fright” which spent the entire summer in the charts.

Following up on the track’s success, the synth-pop duo now bring us not just a single but an entire “Stage Fright” EP complete with two remixes of the title song along with several brand new unreleased tracks. Daniel Myer (HAUJOBB/DESTROID) contributes the “Renegade of Noise” remix of “In Your Sleep” alongside mixes from both established names like STERIL and ROTERSAND as well as newcomers like CRYO and ACRETONGUE. The new tracks “Up” and “Enchanted” are reminiscent of the high points of the album and if you look at the total running time, this EP is practically a new album itself.

Klaus Schulze Big in Japan £18.25
Review
After having recorded one studio album and two live DVDs and albums with LISA GERRARD, KLAUS SCHULZE thought it was time to give the world back the ‘pure’ Schulze again. He and his crew flew to Tokyo to play his very first solo concert since 2003. The concerts here performed in Tokyo in March of 2010 were remarkable for many reasons. First of all, the Japanese crew re-built Klaus’ legendary equipment in exactly the same way as you can see it at his European concerts. Considering the fact that this equipment includes a lot of rare instruments and devices, the Japanese crew did a great job. Secondly, the concert itself contained some surprises: it was the first time that Schulze had rebuilt and remodeled his classic “Crystal Lake” (originally released in 1977 on “Mirage”), renamed here as “The Crystal Returns”. Also astonishing was the fact that Klaus played electric guitar on the track “Sequencers Are Beautiful” – of course in his own, totally unconventional way. In all, these were breathtaking concerts that combined tradition and vision. You will love the sequencer-sounds as well as the new components. And of course, the DVD gives you the perfect vision of these intense and atmospheric performances. “Big in Japan” has already been released in Japan as a limited box set. This European version is slightly different… the track “Sequencers Are Beautiful” (on the Japanese edition only available on the DVD) can be found here as the second track on the first CD. Along with a stylish new package, these historic moments are now available for every KLAUS SCHULZE fan!

01. The Crystal Returns
02. Sequencers Are Beautiful

Klaus Schulze La Vie Electronique 8 £18.25
Review
During the years 1977-1983, Schulze recorded some of his most introspective works, such as “Mirage”, “Dune” and “Dig It”. On this, the eighth part of this series, we find a selection of stuff that was archived alongside his official albums from those years. A large part of this 3CD set is made up of of concert recordings (made on a cheap, but stereo, radio cassette recorder) from Klaus’ 1979 tour with singer ARTHUR BROWN, although disc one, for instance, features more than forty minutes of studio material. Also included (on discs two and three) are two rare fragments of highly interesting radio interviews from that period.

Just how far Schulze went during his concerts can be heard on “The Martial Law”, where he gives his all on the Minimoog. What a contrast, compared with the elegant “L’Affaire Tournesol” on disc two. Just listen and be careful: this is angry but melodic stuff in the typical Schulze 80s way! The late 70s/early 80s work of Schulze is often overlooked and underrated. Hearing the material featured on this 3CD set, one can discover the ‘other side’ of that particular period when analogue was still there, but digital was about to become the power to be.

Snog The Dissolving Satellite of Egoism Overturned (The Nude Acoustic Verandah Sessions) £12.75
Review
A long overdue collection of ‘acoustic’ tracks by SNOG.

Celebrated on the dancefloor or in the private booth, SNOGreveal the organic heart that beats deep beneath their world-weary exterior. Remastered with love and care from the original tapes, assembled after hours spent delving into the vaults, here is a SNOG you might never have thought existed – ragged yet sincere, angry yet tender and heartfelt. Apocalyptic hillbillies who somehow got lost in an industrial rave – SNOG have now come home – and it’s a revelation. These rare archival recordings document the touching, warm and rather unknown aspects of a group most often noted for their dark, anarchic electronic music. Not that their love for acoustic tunes had not yet been revealed, as it has been an integral part of all releases, with acoustic tracks and remixes appearing as bonuses, B-sides and compilation tracks throughout their career. Now for the first time they are all conveniently repackaged on one album and of course enriched with previously unreleased material to equally please the snogheads.

Untoten Liebe oder Tod £16.50
Review
“Liebe or Tod” (‘Love or Death’), the companion album to “Haus der Luge” offers more dreamy, romantic tracks full of deepest melancholy and sad feelings. Greta’s multifacetted vocals with its unique timbre tells stories of lost centuries, fantastic fairies and heroic knights – the softer and sadder companion to the ‘House of Lies’ is a charming masterpiece of cliché goth. This CD is also strictly limited to 999 copies and comes with a 16-page booklet that includes all lyrics in an outstanding fantasy artwork.

De:Ad:Cibel Klondike £15.00
Review
Although this is the first cooperation between Armin Kuester (music) and Daniel Galda (vocals, lyrics), both musicians have already successfully participated in numerous other projects such as DAS ICH, CARLOS PERÓN, KALTE FARBEN or SKORBUT. After publishing a first limited club EP, the band now presents thirteen ruthless electro EBM tracks which balance perfectly between a hard club sound, industrial and floating electro/futurepop. At the same time, they stick to their idea of creating electronic music that is powerful and danceable but possesses the right dose of verve and enough space for elaborate arrangement and composition without just wanting to be LOUD. “Klondike” is an electro EBM album fit for clubs that invites you to dance but also to listen closely.

Machinefabriek Vloed £13.50
Review
A collection of (slightly edited) live performances, recorded between 2006 and 2008 in Amsterdam and Den Haag. All performances find MACHINEFABRIEK in fine form, offering up thick billows of warm guitar shimmer, fluttery staticky ambience, and at one point some uncharacteristically heavy super-distorted metallic guitar, but here, it’s not so much metal as simply a mighty drone, thick and throbbing and super-intense. There are long stretches of near silence and minimal high-end drone, glimmering slow-building crescendos, squalls of distorted choral buzz, warm whirring metallic reverberations, shimmery and dense black dronemusik, all the stuff we love about MACHINEFABRIEK. Beautifully remastered with a 20-minute bonus track, “Vloed” captures the immersive live experience of a MF concert. In a stunning matt digipak with modified artwork.

MZ412 Burning the Temple of God [Re-Issue] £13.50
Review
Remastered and extended version of the 1996 album with bonus tracks and alternate takes culled from the original masters. Housed in a matt laminate digipak with spot varnishing. This is the second of five albums in the MZ.412 reissue series, with a new album planned for next year: the ultimate statement in Swedish black industrial, summoning forth the act’s controversial black metal side and recalling the Norwegian church burnings of the early 90s. Nightmare-inducing ritual old-school industrial, alongside raw black metal, this album has been hailed as one of the greatest albums in the genre by noise and black metal fans alike! It could actually be considered the first real crossover album between the genres.

Nude Basic Guerilla Moves £12.50
Review
The NUDE phenomenon began with their pre-album releases “Ruff, Rugged & Raw” and a classic re-recording of HEAVEN 17’s 1982 UK hit “Let Me Go” receiving rave reviews. NUDE’s versatility and their conscious attempts to avoid being labelled have produced their latest groundbreaking album “Basic Guerilla Moves”. The band members are drawn from an international line-up with an extraordinarily creative sound design within the electronic music scene, successfully incorporating the very best elements of breakbeat, drum’n’bass, bigbeat and electropunk. The results are addictive, adrenaline-fuelled pumping beats, hooklines, raucous vocals, wild electronics and a liberal dose of manic Germanics. In the tradition of BASEMENT JAXX, CHEMICAL BROTHERS, NOISIA, UNDERWORLD, FAITHLESS and THE PRODIGY, NUDE engulf their fans with “blow yer mind LIVE” gigs. This album was born out of these experiences for fans and band alike – bootleg copies of videos of live recordings had spread like wildfire across the net, long before the album materialised. And the official release will knock your figure huggin’ boots off. NUDE promise that sounds and songs of “Basic Guerilla Moves” will prove they have little respect for conventional genre-specific rules and restrictions. The album includes fourteen songs, plus bonus tracks and secret studio snippets, the result of a two-year ongoing tour of NUDE DJ GUERILLA, and their experiences during their live sets.

NUDE – the nucleus, NUDE – pure energy, NUDE – innovation, NUDE – the passion. Whether live on stage or on CD, NUDE are the missing link – about to be released upon an unsuspecting, impotent pop world.

Subheim No Land Called Home £16.25
Review
SUBHEIM is the project of composer and visual artist Kostas K., a cinematic, experimental venture fusing electronic elements with rich ambiance and female vocals by Katja. Rich arrangements followed by deep female and male vocals, cello, violin, various percussion and other instruments, as well as a swell of electronic and classical ambiences, mark out SUBHEIM as one of the most promising projects of modern experimental cinematic electronic music. Balancing between emotional outbreaks, fragile moments of utter melancholy, and aggressive, epic symphonic arrangements, while masterfully utilising a combination of liquid drum patterns, world and ethnic soundscapes, SUBHEIM’s music is a constantly evolving journey, in which new and fascinating pathways are being explored.

Haus Arafna You £18.25
Review
The new HAUS ARAFNA album is one of contrasts and leads the listener along carefully selected levels of suspense through the full gamut of the Arafna-esque art of sound creation. The spectrum extends from dark jewels which permeate nerve and brain, to great boulders which avalanche their way through the intestines. A peculiar hybrid of various industrial music styles forming a malicious monster, remarkable for its changeability, for its sense of the unexpected. Difficult to control, cunningly applied analogue electronics meet sawing angst-synthesizer ensembles, ingeniously accompanying screams, speech and distorted vocals to the beat of noise and steel. An approach that has proven itself over the years, but today’s music from HAUS ARAFNA is generally more advanced, more to the point. All probably created just for “You”.

No More 7 Years (1979-1986) [Re-Issue] £15.00
Review
“7 Years”: a re-release of the compilation that covers all songs from the first seven years of NO MORE’s discography. At the end of 2008, NO MORE (condensed down to the duo of Tina Sanudakura and Andy Schwarz) got back on stage 22 years after the band split up in the 1986. In period that followed, NO MORE successfully played all over Europe and released their new album “Midnight People & Lo-Life Stars” in 2010. So this is the perfect time to re-release the NO MORE compilation “7 Years” (originally released in 1990, in Germany only) and take a look at the time before their comeback.

Since these recordings date from the pre-CD era and all the original vinyl releases are long sold out and are hard to get nowadays, “7 Years” represents a fantastic possibility to contemplate NO MORE’s work from the 80s. The focus lies on the final line-up (from 1984 to 1986) and contains, amongst others, songs from various 12″ maxi-singles, the mini-LP “Laughter in the Wings” and their final album “Hysteria”. The band called it a day during the recording of “Hysteria” and Tina Sanudakura and Andy Schwarz recorded the song “7 Years” as a summary of these NO MORE years. They certainly didn’t think of coming back at that time.

Amongst the gems on this compilation is the original version their all-time classic “Suicide Commando”, which still forms a part of many DJ sets and has variously been remixed by DJ HELL, VITALIC, ECHOPARK and others over the years. “A song that refuses to die. A couple of years after these Germans recorded this, it spread like a virus to become a cult classic. The virus is still spreading to this day.” (Optimo, UK) NO MORE refused to play their ‘hit’ during their last two years before splitting up, with only one exception: their farewell concert at the Old Daddy concert hall in Oberhausen, Germany. Luckily this concert was taped and therefore a live version of “Suicide Commando” can be found here.

Undermathic 10.10pm £12.00
Review
After the sleeper debut “Return To Childhood” in 2009, UNDERMATHIC returns with his powerful new album release “10:10pm”.

With the previous album lending itself to a grittier, darker approach to electronica with an slight industrial tint, “10:10pm” reveals a more cultivated and polished sound demonstrating this Polish artist’s talent for accessibility and sharp song construction. Still present are the massive washes of ambiance and infectious beatwork mixed with brooding melodies and heavy synthlines that have become signatures of UNDERMATHIC’s unique sound, yet an air of beauty and hopefulness is always present in contrast to the gripping tautness of each song, creating a distinct mood that is both epic and wondrous.

“10:10pm” flows smoothly and effortlessly, never too abrasive or serene, but a perfect balance between beats and ambiance. Tracks like “Big City Nights”, “Searcher”, and “10:10pm” display a sense of urgency and fullness, yet always allowing the listener time to breathe with marvelous breakdowns and lovely atmospheres, whereas songs like “I Remember”, “7 Years”, and “Sea” summon a relaxing and dreamy state that embraces the listener with warm aural visualizations.

Slip on your headphones and take a trip with UNDERMATHIC’s stunning new album “10:10pm”.

The Rorschach Garden 42 Times Around the Sun £13.50
Review
The sixth full-length album in as many years from THE RORSCHACH GARDEN, and it really is a musical stroll through the styles and contents TRG have explored so far, with a strong emphasis on progress and refinement. What once started with a very ‘retro’ sound has acquired a lot of modern aspects sonically. Additionally, Philipp Münch invited some well-known friends to join him on vocals.

“42 Times…” starts with the uptempo “Automatic”, something TRG haven’t done in a while. Back in the classic TRG vein with the more familiar melodies are “Broken” and “Unusual Romance”, the latter being a heart-felt declaration of love by the charging cable to its connected mobile (!), and yes, it does remind somehow of the B52’s.

“Some Reasons to Call This Time the Hate-ies” is not only a clever reference to the MORRISSEY quote, not only a punch in the face of the narrow-minded nostalgist, but also a wonderful party track. DIRK IVENS delivers unmistakable backing vocals on “Living in a Cage” while GENEVIÈVE PASQUIER does so on the anti-paparazzi track “How to Become Invisible”. “(In Search) of the Amber Room” is a Detroit-tinged electro smash.

Other standout tracks are the Devo-style “Micro Machines”, a duet with SYNAPSCAPE partner, Tim, and the wonderful “Red Light”, a track in the timeless pop tradition, and maybe the ultimate earworm TRG have created so far, featuring background lyrics by Scott Milton of American newcomer act THE PRESENT MOMENT. The latter also performs the entire vocals of “Rejection”, a spine-tingling trance-infused ballad that makes way for the closing title, a very upbeat remix by MEMMAKER.

“42 Times…” is nothing less than a classic pop album, tightly produced and with a coherent mood, yet enough diversity in sound and content, and it displays the enormous musical talent of Philipp at new heights!

Downstairs Left Waiting for the Golden Age £15.00
Review
After their highly acclaimed EP “Nothing but Memories”, DOWNSTAIRS LEFT continued to perfect their style, giving us ten album tracks plus three bonus tracks, on which they deliver a melancholic gothic-wave without bombast and inflated gestures: a comforting melancholy mood, which seems like a pleasant haze encompassing all the songs. Beautiful melodies are supported by the memorable voice of singer Haye, and the songs demonstrate that acoustically produced music still can be timeless and defy current trends. DOWNSTAIRS LEFT succeed in creating a modern, haunting and soulful acoustic-wave-goth album, which leaves an impression on the listener that develops with each subsequent listening.

The Dark Unspoken Diode in Your Head? £15.00
Review
Originally a solo project, THE DARK UNSPOKEN have now grown into a fully-fledged band. Their debut release “Die by Echoes” (2005), was followed by “Rotten Memories” (2008). They are also highly experienced as an excellent live act. Since their first energetic gig at the legendary Ballhaus Felsenkeller in Höxter, they have played countless shows throughout Germany. In general, their main focus is to sweep the audience along with songs that deal with biased ways of thinking, ignorance and selfishness – with people who close their eyes to any kind of reasoning.

Leaether Strip Dark Passages + Seasons Change – I Don’t £24.75
Review
LEAETHER STRIP return with a 2CD box set including the “Dark Passages” motion soundtrack disc plus the new special studio album “Seasons Change – I Don’t”.

After having paid homage to one of his mentors (John Carpenter) on his “Haelloween” EP, Claus Larsen now goes one level further by creating the complete soundtrack for the “Dark Passages” movie directed by Cesar Cruz. The alchemy of their creative union shows how much both men have been inspiring each other and how they have made each other’s dreams come true: “I was really inspired by the script, so one song turned into three and then in a few weeks there was a full album. I just dropped everything I had going on at the time. This was what I had been waiting for since I had hair on my head” says Claus Larsen. “I have been a fan of AE for as long as I started Outworld Entertainment. I guess you can call it ‘fate’ or something. I first heard “Strap Me Down” on a compilation and I was instantly hooked! I have been listening to AE ever since. Working with Claus has been a dream come true. Claus has become a dedicated and talented friend/team member during this project. It was amazing to work with him. The man is a machine!” adds Cesar Cruz who recently won a new award for the video clip he made for LEAETHER STRIP’s previous album song “Love Me or Die”.

The “Dark Passages” CD features the complete versions of the songs to be used in the movie (including a bunch of vocal songs) and transports you straight into the film’s sombre and dense atmosphere. It is a wonderful first glimpse into a film that you will all hopefully soon discover at one of the festivals where it’s already lined up, or at its scheduled premieres. Hopefully this poignant soundtrack is the first in a series of future collaborations between both artists, challenging and taking them into other sides of their strong respective personalities.

This 2CD box also includes a new fourteen-track album, aptly titled “Seasons Change – I Don’t”, presenting new songs recorded just after the soundtrack. From the big beat of “Black Magic Man” through the dramatic feel of the depressive “Dead Swan”, from the sexy and clubby groove of “Bondage Is Not a Crime” to the tearful intimacy of the dark electro title song, there are many hit moments on this new LEAETHER STRIP tour de force. Fans will also be thrilled by the extended versions of the soundtrack songs “Dark Passages” and “Everything Dies” which both have club-hit potential, as well as by new versions of the unavoidable “My Shadow Is Your Home” and “Voluntary Confinement”. Last, but not least, two special collaborations with MORTIIS and EHRON VONALLEN put the cherry on the cake. Seasons change… LEAETHER STRIP does NOT!

The Young Gods Everybody Knows £15.25
Review
There is the intro, “Sirius Business”. The aim is clear, highly cosmic but never presumptuous. Aerial samples gobbled up by waves of saturated riffs, a few moving seconds to, yet again, glide into the doors of perfection. Welcome to the heart of “Everybody Knows”, the new album from THE YOUNG GODS. This is a band that has never ceased to conceive soundtracks for the great unknown, ballads for outer worlds. There is that voice that rises endlessly like a summer sun over the jungle, vibrating to the sound of some newly discovered ancient music, drinking straight from the fountains of psychedelic rock and the rivers of ambient electronics… The song is called “Blooming”. It is as direct and inspiring as the tracks that have marked the history of rock and pop in the last five decades. And this is only a warm-up. The monumental “No Land’s Man” comes in right on its tail, dancing like a panther lost under the lights of San Francisco’s Matrix club. As 1968 makes way for 2010, a new era is upon us. “No Land’s Man”, future live behemoth, dynamites the brain with its hendrixian solos, splashing into infinity like a group of mad gipsies straight out of a Philip K. Dick dream. Even after a song like that, the manic tension doesn’t falter as the band follows up with “Mister Sunshine”, a shamanic meditation cum colossal anthem, sublime soaring vocals joining a celestial choir only to finish the flight by crashing down on our hearts and souls.

The album flows on with “Miles Away”, a long four o’clock tea shared between a hard rock band and an ambient minimalist master. The record also has its share of softer moments (“Two to Tango”, “Aux Anges”), bringing the listener back to the olden days of THE YOUNG GODS without them ever sounding nostalgic, before climaxing with “Once Again”, an eight minute sonic free-fall after which returning to normal existence seems almost painful.

Should one even need to point out that THE YOUNG GODS are breathtaking and tight as ever? Franz Treichler, Al Comet, Bernard Trontin and Vincent Hänni have come out with a world-shaped album, undefinable, acoustic, electric, electronic, vintage and avant garde, that subtly compiles recent experiences (“Knock on Wood”, “Woodstock”) and a majestic past (“TV Sky”, “Second Nature”). “Everybody Knows” is a record that will haunt you for a lifetime!

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows A Strange Thing to Say £37.50
Review
“A Strange Thing to Say” is Part 1 of the trilogy – or more specifically – the opening chapter of “A Triptychon of Ghosts (or: El Sexorcismo de Anna-Varney Cantodea)”. It’s a completely rotten (but otherwise fabulous) audio/visual documentary, staring the young and breath-takingly beautiful, trans-gendered goddess ANNA-VARNEY CANTODEA in her most daring spiritual endeavour: a ghoulish struggle to purify her fragile mortal body, as well as the divinity of her ancient soul, of any and all dormant s*xual desire (and otherwise-related, inherently addictive or zombifying behaviour and/or thought-patterns) by boldly unearthing, externalising and eventually expelling its lurking demons.

An EP without compromise and with a dirty new sound. Recorded and co-produced by Patrick Damiani (ROME) “A Strange Thing to Say” now features 5+1 horrible pieces of freakish gothic music(k) by SOPOR AETERNUS & THE ENSEMBLE OF SHADOWS … – and a video on DVD, which is included in this digibook edition. That’s disgusting too.

ANNA-VARNEY CANTODEA is reinventing herself with each release, without ever losing track of her roots. But this time going much further than ever before: back to the roots and beyond…

This strictly limited CD+DVD edition contains:

* CD and DVD in digibook format
* Hardcover-paperback-cover with elaborate ‘singer’ thread stitching
* 96-page additional booklet, precious artprint on high-quality paper, including all lyrics and exclusive photos and artwork
* one brooch/pin (“Lady AVC”)
* one brooch/magnet (“Mutant Scum”)
* one set of nine postcards

all packaged in a black organza bag, autographed and hand-numbered by ANNA-VARNEY CANTODEA. Strictly limited to 1999 copies.

Be My Enemy This Is the New Wave £11.75
Review
BE MY ENEMY is a new project from guitarist and producer Phil Barry – one half of legendary British industrial duo CUBANATE.

Between 1992-1998 with CUBANATE, Barry released four albums, and toured with bands such as FEAR FACTORY, SHEEP ON DRUGS and RAMMSTEIN. CUBANATE’s 1995 album “Cyberia” included the hit song “Oxyacetylene” which was ‘Single of the Week’ in legendary UK rock magazine KERRANG!, and was later used as the theme music to the Playstation game “Gran Turismo” (1998). CUBANATE have been cited as a musical influence by none other than THE PRODIGY as well as various acclaimed nu-metal acts.

For BE MY ENEMY’s debut album, “This Is the New Wave”, Barry has returned to the kind of sound that made CUBANATE so successful: heavy guitar riffs, hard breakbeats and rave synth basslines. The resulting album is ten tracks of techno-metal, every bit as brutal as the finest moments of CUBANATE’s “Cyberia”, with dancefloor-destroying tracks like “Disintegration” clearly in the tradition of “Oxyacetylene”.

BE MY ENEMY’s sound also evokes the finest moments of other punk-influenced British dance/rock crossover acts like PITCHSHIFTER and THE PRODIGY, given a distinctive British feel by the sneering John Lydon- esque vocals of Barry himself. BE MY ENEMY is part-punk, part-rave, part-metal: but all-original.

“This Is the New Wave” has been mastered by Jan L (NOISUF-X) at Germany’s X-M-P studios, and artwork comes from Vlad McNeally at Kallisti Design in the U.S.

Razorfade This Clear Shining £12.50
Review
Here comes a dark and melodic album that finally brings hope and light to the stagnating world of goth music: “This Clear Shining” by RAZORFADE!

An aptly titled debut album of such high maturity that this new band could only be hiding experienced musicians! Featuring ex-members of SUSPIRIA and IKON, RAZORFADE reveals a dark electronic sound approach whilst still incorporating atmospheric guitar and vocals reminiscent of the pair’s previous projects. Sombre, catchy, danceable anthems share similarities with bands like VNV NATION, CLAN OF XYMOX or even ASSEMBLAGE 23. “This Clear Shining” is an album that encompasses different styles, ranging from those aimed at squarely at the dancefloor, such as “Chemical Distraction”, “Shout Down” and “Breathe”, to slower, more introspective songs like “Fear Is Rising”, “The Razor Fades” and “A Push Away from Falling”. But whatever the style of the song it is always underpinned by melody. Whether driven by the music or the by the vocals, there is a genuine melodic feel to the album.

Mark Tansley, who was a pioneer of UK alternative music in the 1990s and was at the forefront of integrating electronic sounds into the goth scene with his cult band SUSPIRIA, is not one to dwell on the past, and the music he has written for RAZORFADE is another giant leap forward! Add to this the pensive lyrics and deep vocal styling of Clifford Ennis and you’ll quickly understand why this band should appeal to fans of dark alternative, goth and electronic music alike. RAZORFADE are effectively reinterpreting alternative electronic music for those with a darker side by blending influences from the alternative 1980s new wave and gothic rock movements with current electro sounds.

On “This Clear Shining” RAZORFADE write about distorted truths, wasted lives, and unwinnable wars. They translate their huge emotional outpouring into sinister melodic tunes, by successfully blending electronic music with dark alternative/goth, the outcome being music which sits perfectly in the middle of both genres, promisingly described by journalists as a ‘brilliant melodic melange of the SISTERS OF MERCY and DEPECHE MODE’!

Unit 187 Out for Blood £12.50
Review
Founded in 1994 by John Morgan and Tod Law, UNIT:187 spent less than a year in their Vancouver studio while playing live at local clubs before landing their first record deal with San Francisco’s seminal 21st Circuitry Records. A solid debut album followed up by several US tours earned the band a respectable fan-base throughout Canada and the US. Their sophomore album, 1998’s “Loaded”, featured new band members Jed Simon (guitar) and Byron Stroud (bass) of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, and drummer Jay Hagen, and was produced by Devin Townsend. The album yielded some instant industrial classics, such as the title track “Loaded” and “Stillborn” which was remixed for the album by FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY’s Rhys Fulber. 2003 saw the band release their third studio album “Capital Punishment”. Staying with the same line- up, but adding the additional talents of FLA’s Chris Peterson on several tracks, this album doesn’t disappoint, full of Unit’s trademark synth riffs, movie samples, and driving guitars blazing full-tilt.

Versus Different Twilight Places £15.25
Review
VERSUS are a musically most diverse band from Monestirea (close to Dresden in Germany) although unmistakeably rooted in electro/EBM. Nevertheless, VERSUS ignore any kind of pigeonholes and thus produce their very own and at the same time quite varied sound – a sound that was already very convincing back in 2004, when the band reached position three in Sonic Seducer’s ‘Battle of the Bands’. Since then, the band have done remixes for the likes of DAYS OF FATE, HEAVY CURRENT and UNIVERSAL POPLAB, and have contributed to various compilations, but there has been no album… until now. “Different Twilight Places” has finally arrived, and is a well-balanced, conceptual fifteen-track electropop EBM album that smoothly combines many different facets of electronic music and takes the listener on a very special journey.

Haushetaere Syndicate £13.00
Review
HAUSHETAERE came about through Nadine Cooraz’s collaborations with the harsh elektro act ACYLUM, where she brought melody and femininity to Pedro Engel’s devastating orchestral electronic arrangements. Since then both German artists have rapidly felt the magic growing between them and they let that unique creative flow unite their tormented minds… they let the machines speak. The German couple now presents to us HAUSHETAERE’s debut CD, “Syndicate”, a very eclectic album with no conceptual limits, including influences ranging from electro and industrial to pop and hip-hop. A surprising mélange of genres and influences, all united by the angry and revolted personality of frontwoman Nadine Cooraz Engel.

On this rich cocktail of opposites, HAUSHETAERE manage to jump from extreme harsh noisy elektro (“Rotes Sofa”, the intoxicating “Rauschgift” and the bombastic “Sunshine Is My destroyer”) to dark melodic moody pop (“The Game”, “Hetaere”) with a disturbing facility and a deviant touch. The German duo have also broken all scene boundaries by collaborating in studio with the famous Berlin aggro rapper Joe Rilla whose performance on “Believe” creates a bridge between hip-hop and elektro!

HAUSHETAERE go way beyond taboo, throwing rap elements into industrial, synthpop into dark elektro, noise into hip-hop, making “Syndicate” much more than just a feminine extension of ACYLUM. “Syndicate” is a multi-colored release full of melodic angst and fragile darkness that can be seen as the extreme sonic mixture of BLUTENGEL versus PZYCHOBITCH, or MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO versus COMBICHRIST. No matter how you interpret their sound, HAUSHETAERE are here to provoke and shock your ears! React!

Celluloide Hexagonal + c8b EP £20.25
Review
Just in case you ever had a doubt: machines DO have a heart… an eight-bit heart!

For their fifth album, CELLULOIDE locked themselves in their Synthélabo and tried to nail the formula of electronic pop ‘à la Française’. “Hexagonal” is a further exploration of the group’s pop and EBM influences with an analogue flavour for a very personal and unique combination of electronic music.

ATTRITION founder Martin Bowes is a pioneer of darker electronica. He started making waves on the UK industrial scene in the early 80s alongside contemporaries such as COIL, TEST DEPARTMENT, LEGENDARY PINK DOTS, IN THE NURSERY, PORTION CONTROL et al, and has successfully steered the band through a 25 year career, fuelled by a succession of critically acclaimed albums, selling over 70,000 to date. Now, Metropolis Records presents “Dreamtime Collectors”, a career-spanning compilation of ATTRITION’s most important songs. This CD is a must-have for fans of electronic, industrial and darkwave alike and also includes a number of remixes of the best songs.

Tapage & Meander Etched in Salt £12.00
Review
Out of a sea of zeroes and ones come twelve surreal musical explorations from TAPAGE & MEANDER. While a gentle current often lets the fragile melodies flow through the tracks with genuine ease, the corroded snaredrums and overgrown kicks lie scattered on the ocean floor, long forgotten by man. Intertwined and accepted by nature, these percussive elements now only enhance the richness of what is found here. There is yet more to discover though as these producers not only take you deeper, but also closer. The fiftieth CD release from Tympanik Audio brings you musical detail on a molecular level, where beauty meets maths and imprints are “Etched in Salt”.

Die Krupps Stahlwerksinfonie £15.75
Review
“DIE KRUPPS began with “Steelworks Symphony” in 1981, a foundry full of steel-on-steel impacts and carbonised guitars put through a waste-disposal unit, work-to-rule, fatigued assembly-line rhythms, developed with help from CAN’s Holger Czukay. That, they say, was their ‘farewell to guitars’.” Paul Oldfield – Melody Maker 7/89

“To challenge both the old punks and the new ‘scene’ they conceived the idea of a long piece in defiance of pogo that would at the same time avoid equally restricting disco conventions. Thus “The Steelworks Symphony” – a brutal 30 minute noise extravaganza that is as compelling as it is monotonous.” Chris Bohn – NME, 11/81

It was a bold move – to step so far away from the music of the past and present, in an attempt to create the music of the future. Juergen Engler and Bernward Malaka decided to tread a different path and break with their own pasts, and thus they founded DIE KRUPPS. Just before the due decided to do a proper recording – which was to take place at the famous CAN Innerspace Studio – Ralf Dörper joined the new unit. The recorded material was taken to the legendary studio of Conny Plank, where the mix – as well as the dub version – was conducted with Holger Czukay (CAN) in attendance. Both versions of “Stahlwerksinfonie” were originally released on Hamburg’s ZickZack Records in 1981 as a 45rpm MLP.

The concert featured on disc two of this release took place in Krefeld 1981 and was recorded by a Japanese journalist, Agi Yuzuru, who happened to be in Europe to report on the new music emerging everywhere – but foremost in Germany. A tour with DAF, promoting their ‘Alles Ist Gut’ album at the time, was to follow in June of 81, which cemented DIE KRUPPS’ reputation as being a fine live act, and which established them as a force to be reckoned with. Now, 30 years later, DIE KRUPPS are still in existence, touring and playing to fanatical audiences across the globe and with a new album out in 2011. There is no end to infinity. The complete concert is made available here for the first time.

Various Artists Electropop.5 £10.75
Review
When the first “Electropop” compilation saw the light of day in October 2008, no one considered that its creators would continue releasing compilations every six months, and still be able to maintain the high standard that was set by the first release, but Conzoom Records have done exactly that! And now, two years later, we can celebrate the anniversary of this series with the imminent release of “Electropop.5”.

Once again, we have here a release full of innovative bands and tracks. In addition to DAYBEHAVIOUR, who have returned from a long break and can therefore can almost be considered newcomers, there are many other amazing contributors. The American project HABERDASHERY, Germany’s LYLE, the Swedes of MONOSTRIP and the freaky Americans HYPER BUBBLE who bring a really cool and fresh sound to the ears. And visually, “Electropop.5” also takes its place in the series. This time the shining symbol of the compilation – the spots – are presented in the colour orange. The high quality CD booklet contains information about all the participating bands, in addition to numerous photographs and the lyrics for all tracks.

Conzoom Records impressively demonstrate in this compilation series that sometimes it is the unknown bands that makes the fan’s heart beat faster. We can always find the joy in the unexpected. This of course allows groups such as UNIVERSAL POPLAB, LOWE, PARRALOX, VISION TALK, and now DUAL DENSITY, to pursue ever greater heights of popularity and fame.

NEW SOUNDCLIPS
Mono-Amine Like a Machine £12.00
Review
“Like a Machine” is a distorted, hard-driving, layered, uplifting, intense and adventurous mind-fucking set of tracks with the original MONO-AMINE sound. The tracks were on the one hand born out of the discontent that average human behavior has grown to the level of a bunch of fucking sheep, and that our systems goals are just about retaining power and forcing the people to think like preprogrammed machines. On the other hand, “Like a Machine” is intended to make you dance, lose your mind and bring some joy to the minds of the few who appreciate this kind of electronic warfare. If you want your music to be hard-driving, adventurous, uplifting and intense, you will need to get this new MONO-AMINE album!

Includes the underground hit songs “Economics Maintain This Situation” and “If I Started…” previously released on vinyl through DarkforceNL Records.

Dead Hand Projekt Dead Hand Projekt £12.75
Review
Back again with a new project, Taury Goforth, original singer-songwriter for HEX RX’s album “X”, is proving to be forever in our faces with violent aggression and an enraged, ‘fuck you’ attitude. Having been classified as ‘progressive old-school’, this face-lift to industrial music will make you stop bickering about how bad the food is and make you want to get up and punch the cook in the face. This self-titled album should please most audiences due to the diversity in style throughout. This is not the same song over and over again, folks, it is a triumph of industrial glory! With songs like “Horror” and “Concrete” you’ll be forced to your feet by stompy dance beats. With tracks like “Desultory” and “Dejected” you’ll be possessed by violent rage and angst. And “Taste” is becoming the new fuck song for all clubs with its raunchy and overly imaginative/suggestive lyrics and tones.

The Peoples Republic of Europe Babylon £12.00
Review
So you saw “Zeitgeist”. Maybe you have even read the statement of the Unabomber. Are we being manipulated? Is there a grand scheme behind everything? Perhaps not, but when big groups of people, coupled with technology, create a society, this is what we get. Fair? Most certainly not! Dangerous? Perhaps. But consider the alternative. Do we really want to return to the Stone Age because we are ‘not living in natural time?’ Do we really want to endure hardship, poverty, starvation, disease and the likes because some people believe this is not the way we are supposed to live? Of course not. Therefore: “Babylon”. We support the system. We are the system. We live the system. This is what we want. No matter the cost, Zion must fall. BABYLON WILL RISE.

“Babylon” strays from the normal industrial path. While maintaining the harshness of previous releases, TPROE mix dubstep, EBM, dancehall, rhythmic industrial, urban, drum’n’bass, techno, and even more funk into an explosive cocktail of dark rhythmic funk-industrial. Straight up four-to-the-floor technoid industrial, harsh dancehall, industrial breakbeat, dub-noise-step, violent drum’n’bass; it is all there! Eleven songs, 50 minutes, of pure concentrated progressive industrial. The bomb.

Absolute Body Control Tapes 81-89 £44.75
Review
Influenced by bands from the German and UK electronic scenes, Dirk Ivens (synths and vocals) formed ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL in early 1980, and was joined by Mark de Jonghe (synths) and Veerle de Schepper (backing vocals). After a first track on a compilation and their first 7″ single (“Is There an Exit?”), Mark left the band and Eric van Wonterghem (who was in fact in the audience for the first ABC concert), filled in the gap, becoming Dirk’s new musical partner for years to come. ABC quickly became one of the first successful Belgian electronic acts.

In 1984 Dirk became a member of THE KLINIK, followed by Eric who left after the second album to form INSEKT. In 1989 they released their last tape “Tracks” which contained all ABC compilation contributions so far, but the band had already been put on hold long before that. Nonetheless, the public interest was still there and this resulted in the release of a first ABC CD “Eat this” in 1993 on the German label VUZ (the same label that ‘discovered’ :WUMPSCUT:).

As more people began to rediscover the band, ABC releases became much sought after collectors items. Even so, it took them over 22 years to reform, playing at festivals all over Europe from 2006 onwards. After releasing new versions of classic tracks like “Figures” and “Give Me Your Hands” on the now deleted “Wind[Re]Wind” album in 2008, and the extremely successful (also deleted) “Lost/Found” double CD, here now is a FULL collection of all their ‘lost’ works from 1981 to 1989 – previously released on vinyl only and now for the first time ever available in digital format in this sumptuous 5CD box set.

Hocico Crónicas Letales I £13.75
Review
Few other bands have left their imprint on the hard side of electronic dance music as heavily as the Mexican duo HOCICO has done in the past two decades. Often copied but never bettered, Erk Aicrag and Racso Agroyam stand for innovative sound design, uncompromising club anthems, whipping beats and aggro-attacks that hit it where it hurts. And now, just in time for their new long playing album “Tiempos de Furia”, the Mexican group are unleashing a comprehensive anthology on four double-CD releases: “Crónicas Letales: A Music Collection”, parts I-IV!

Included are all of the band’s albums up until “Wrack And Ruin”, as well as all accompanying singles, EPs and exclusive compilation tracks, some of them previously unreleased on CD, all in newly remastered glory. As such, “Crónicas Letales” is not only the ideal introduction for newcomers to Hocico’s sonic hellfire, but also the long-awaited opportunity for fans to complete their collection with all those rare tracks they could previously only obtain with a lot of luck and for a lot of money at record fairs. Hocico: music as a weapon… a lethal weapon!

Part I of the collection is a double CD (at the price of a single CD) featuring the complete debut album “Odio Bajo El Alma” (1997) plus a track from the early demo “Triste Desprecio” (1995/6) on CD1, with the EP “The Cursed Land” (1998) and the mini-album “El Dia de la Ira” (1998) on CD2. 26 tracks in total.

Hocico Crónicas Letales III £13.75

The third part of the “Crónicas Letales” series features the “Signos de Aberracion” album plus three very rare tracks from the super-limited Vinyl version of “Born to Be (Hated)” on CD1, plus the 3 EPs/singles “Disidencia Inquebrantable” (2003), “Untold Blasphemies” (2001) and “Born to Be (Hated)” (2004) on CD2.

Formalin Bodyminding £12.75
Review
How do you set a city to music? Two lads from Berlin, going by the name of FORMALIN, have dared to tackle the gargantuan task of creating a sonic monument for their hometown, aptly naming the resulting sound “Berlin City Industrial”. Their brainchild is raw, aggressive, unpolished, dirty, repulsive, beautiful, glamorous and stylish all at once – just like the world’s most exciting city. Singer and mastermind Tominous, and drummer and producer Gabor, merge daring and creative sound-design with relentlessly harsh sonic works branded with a highly addictive potential: a rough and fascinating club sound that shamelessly provokes where other bands prefer to follow long-faded trends. “Bodyminding” is a purging sonic storm for a shop-worn genre, created in the spirit of the early works of SKINNY PUPPY or MENTALLO & THE FIXER, but with a sound that has its sights set on the future and that is heavily infused with the spirit of Germany’s capital. The hard electro pioneers HOCICO were so impressed by the band’s music that they invited FORMALIN to support them on their European tour without further ado. Berlin – the steel work symphony of a metropolis!

Alien Vampires Harshlizer + Evil Bloody Music £25.25
Review
If there is one band who know no single compromise in their work and attitude, it is the rebellious Italian/British combo ALIEN VAMPIRES!

BEWARE: Nysrok Infernalien (Voice, Guitars, Keys) and Nightstalker (Drums, Keys, Production) are alive and ready to strike back as if it were their last day on Earth. With more explicit and perverted lyrics, provocative bloody and sexual images, and extreme live shows, the band have never cared about who they might offend! An attitude that definitely carries over into their music, an outrageous blend of harsh electro, goth metal and obscene industrial dance.

This new studio album once again offers an exploding palette of sound ranging from the devastating beats of their new club hits “Harshlizer”, “Control the Universe” or even the hypnotic “She’s on Drugs (More Than Me)” to the noisy-guitar dark industrial pieces like “Death March” and “Her Blood into My Veins”! Their trademark sound is very apparent, “evil bloody” tunes breathe disillusion, deceit, pessimism and ultimate darkness.

Our heavily drugged cyberspace vampires didn’t hestitate, either, to make a blasphemous cover version of “See You in Hell” by their good old friend from SUICIDE COMMANDO (featuring JOHAN VAN ROY himself on vocals!)

With this album, ALIEN VAMPIRES offer us a full-frontal attack on all senses for the ultimate descent to hell… and back? A powerful opus that will certainly reinforce their eclectic fanbase (electro, industrial, goth, metal…). The one and only ALIEN VAMPIRES gang are back in town for your ultimate sonic pleasure: please make sure the kids are not around – loud and explicit music is coming your way!

This deluxe carton box edition contains the exclusive fifteen-track bonus album featuring two exclusive tracks plus the remix work of artists like AMGOD, FREAKANGEL, ACYLUM, DIE SEKTOR, CHAINREACTOR, NEIKKA RPM, PHOSGORE, etc.
