*****THIS WEEK'S FEATURED KILLER RELEASE:
WILT "DARK MEADOWS"
$19 CAD / $17 USD
Wilt's new album is also their first as a band, with the electronic experimentation being combined with acoustic walls of bass and noise. Wide, dusty and dark, Dark Meadows displays Wilt's new psychedelic and atmospheric approach to its deeply textured ambiances. Dark Meadows is one the most rewarding and sombre of works of Wilt, for it marries it organic darkness with an acute sense of melody and an ever-present cavernous bass. A massive, encompassing and profound work of art.
Every Wilt album has to have a concept, and the fourth full length of this project for Ad Noiseam is no exception. If the towering As Giants Watch Over Us and the gritty Radio 1940 were revolving around exogenous ideas, Dark Meadows goes back to 2001's Amidst A Spacious Fabric, in the sense that its core is Wilt as a musical entity.
Founded by James Keeler as a way to replicate into sounds his painting and sculptures into music, Wilt was so far a exercise in textures and atmospheres. With the addition of guitarist Dan Hall, this project takes again the form of a band, with his jams, multiples influences and tastes, something that James Keeler had been looking for since the demise of Children, his nineties jazz / sludge metal group. It is this shift from a complete studio project to a band jamming out dark walls of sound that is documented in Dark Meadows. A break-up from the electronic noise of its past, Wilt embraces a new sound that leaves more space to improvisations, feelings and band dynamics.
Wide and psychedelic and varied, Dark Meadows combines atmospheric droning with an oppressive layer of acoustic noise and intricate guitar sounds. Still the result of painstaking experimentations with tonalities and harmonies, Wilt has added a new dimension and yet more textures to its sound: the contact microphones have learned to let room for the guitar, the distortion has relegated to the background, and the noise has become more acoustic. Dark Meadows ends up being both one the most rewarding and sombre of works of Wilt, for it marries it organic darkness with an acute sense of melody and an ever-present cavernous bass. Released on Ad Noiseam and available September 18th, 2006.

$12 CAD / $10.75 USD
One hard step forward: Thresholds, a prolongation of Detritus's second full length album (the acclaimed Origin), sees David Dando-Moore contract his beats and infusing his tracks with newly found, harder and drier sounds. Crystal-clear, melodic and dynamic, Detritus's sound widens again with Thresholds, mixing ardour and melancholy as never before.
Coming out exactly a year after Detritus's second album, "Origin", the shorter Thresholds is both a perfect companion to its predecessor and a point of rupture. Writing "Origin" had been a very slow process for David Dando-Moore, aiming at offering a balanced and varied showcase of his music, while upping the ante as far as production and recording were concerned. Thresholds, on the other hand, was written over a much shorter time span in the Spring of 2006, and is more of a direct, compact and powerful statement.
Not the nice boy with the strings anymore: a fruit of anger and frustration, Detritus's Thresholds appears as a considerably harder, more direct and more dense approach of Dando-Moore's intricate of drum'n'bass and strings. Terse and straight, the four tracks of Thresholds see Detritus bring more fervor to his sound, and balancing it with some of the most direct melodies he's ever written. Integrating more bass guitar into his music, and fusing it with short samples, Detritus proves here that he can combine his mostly melodic and down-tempo tracks with an acute sense of hard-hitting, dancefloor-friendly rhythms, and this all without renouncing on his renowned talent for crystal-clear production and recording skills.
Thresholds is a CD that Detritus had to write before being able to move on to new grounds. A prolongation of the acclaimed full-length "Origin", it dots the i on this artist's skills, and anticipate Detritus's changes in the future. Released on Ad Noiseam and available September 18th, 2006.

Founded as an electro-wave-project in 1987, the Blind Passengers went through a very impressive development. NIK PAGE "SACRIFIGHT"
$14 CAD / $12.50 USD
Re-issued album from ex-Blind Passenger's front man Nik Page! The quotes say it all:
"On his solo debut the Blind Passengers mastermind has managed to combine Electro, Metal and Gothic to a multi-faceted switchback drive. Respect! (9 of 10 points)."
"The result of long work on the album is equally surprising as impressive;
on this pleasant multilateral album there are multitudes of real hits."
"Insiders might think of the Sisters Of Mercy, Depeche Mode and Billy Idol. Nik Page bears comparison with that big names. He succeeds a row of big goth-hymns with pathos-pregnant choruses, pulsating synthies, fat drums and pumping basses ... "
You can feel that Nik Page took the work on his CD very seriously, and you can hear how much power and how much of his lifeblood are inside this longplayer. But much more important is, that you feel that Sacrifight is authentic and somebody realized his musical ideas together with his friends, without making compromises... (8,5 of 10 points / Orkus)

NIK PAGE "SINMACHINE"
$14 CAD / $12.50 USD
On his new album Sinmachine the Blind Passengers-mastermind Nik Page ingeniously ties together the power of gothic rock, catchy pop-hymns, monumental choral arrangements and intelligent electronix. Though all tracks sound very song orientated, the lavish production opens up a tremendous depth and dynamic force. Sinmachine shows how varied, modern and detailed Gothic Rock can be. So it wasn´t a surprise that this great CD entered place 1 of the soundcheck in Zillo-Magazine Sept. 2004 (record of the month).
Some top-class guests from the German alternative scene supported the studio recordings:
Dirk Scheuber - Project Pitchfork (Sweet Dust)
Tanzwut / Corvus Corax (Road of Damnation)
Joachim Witt (Dein Kuss)
Angelzoom (Road of Damnation)
Eva Pölzing Blutengel (Sweet Dust, Bad Karma)
Nik Page grew up behind the Iron Curtain in the communistic part of Germany. Three years after the fall of the wall he released the first Blind Passengers-album The Glamour Of Darkness. A few years later the Blind Passengers became one of the most important industrial-metal bands in Germany. Their forth longplayer Bastard (released in GSA by EPIC Records/Sony Music) entered the official German Album Charts. Hammer and Break Out known as two of the biggest german rock magazines put Blind Passengers in the record of the month position for may 99. MAURIZIO BIANCHI & TELEPHERIQUE "THE HOUSE OF MORNING"
$22 CAD / $19.75 USD
Prolific Italian Maurizio Bianchi from Milano started working in 1979 using pre-recorded filtered sounds and in 1980 bought his own electronic equipment to "produce technological sounds to work for a full awareness of modern decadence". With over 20 releases including many on EEs’T Records and a release on Manifold, Maurizio Bianchi is an important figure in electronic music.
The project Telepherique began in 1989 with the intention to explore processes and working with people of different cultures. They started with mail-art projects, co-operations, and communication with people all over the world. Basically, Telepherique is Klaus, Danijela and Rene Jochim, from Würzburg, Germany, but there were others that became members of Telepherique, because of the massive collaborations and projects: Ulf Harr, Echart Seilacher, Harry Lüftl, Stefan Au, Stefan Alt and Karin. Their releases have been put out by ant-zen, Noise Museum, Duebel, Old Europa Café, and more.
The House Of Mourning" is that purifier building in which there's deep sorrow and disheartened grief due to the lack of our beloved ones... when someone is paying a condolence visiting that house of affliction, he is reminded of his own inexorable mortality. to consider our existence in the gloomy house of mourning, ultimately and invariably culminating in death, gives us a healthy, balanced view of our fragile life. some time spent with the sadness or grieving, helps us appreciate the simple things in our troubled condition. This is not the easiest lesson to learn, but it is a necessary one because when we give sober thought to serious matters it brings good benefits later, when life seems resolutely distressing and ostinately depressing. In the end, "The House Of Mourning" is the common admonition to our foolish arrogance.
