Ian (Andy) Hall / ihall

(1/1)

ihall:
Greetings, folks!

Ian (Andy) Hall reporting from Silver Spring, Maryland...a small urban enclave just a tad north of Washington, D.C.  I'm writing this introduction in the wake of a minor snowstorm that blanketed our area with tons of white stuff, a symbolic harbinger for the snow-job coronation...er, inauguration, of Resident Shrub scheduled to shut down the lion's share of our "free" city tomorrow morning...but I digress... ;-)

I'm brand new here...lured in by a kindly e-solicitation for new reviewers by Marc U-S...though a bit of an oldster where a lot of the tunes that bring us all together are concerned.  My tastes run the gamut from Autechre to Alien Sex Fiend...from the Boards of Canada to the Bollock Brothers...from Clock DVA to Leonard Cohen...from Debussey to Deedrah...from Elvis Hitler to Esplendor Geometrico...from Farmers Manual to First Law (wink to Diedre & Marco)...from Gangstarr to Godflesh...from Higher Intelligence Agency to Herbst9...from Inade to Infected Mushroom...from Jet Chamber to Jardin D'Usure...from Kraftwerk to Kyuss...from Lassigue Bendthaus to Lanterna....from Meat Beat Manifesto to Megaptera...from Novy Svet to Nitzer Ebb...from Orphx to O Yuki Conjugate...from PWEI to Pink Floyd...from Quant to Quicksand...from Rapoon to Robert Rich...from Slowdive to Speedy J...from Taint to This Mortal Coil...from U96 to Urawa...from Vromb to the Virgin Prunes...from the Who to Whitehouse...from Xingu Hill to Xper. Xr....from Yen Pox to the Young Gods...from Zoviet France to John Zorn...and just about everything in between...I can dig it!

When not shamelessly name-dropping on music websites I've just joined, I entertain myself by writing reviews for various music publications, plying my DJ skills at various houses of musical-ill-repute in and around the DC area and wherever else will take me...I'm a resident at chiarOscuro and I spin there once or twice a month -- I recently hosted a Jhonn Balance retrospective there that was very well received, and we're fortunate to have a terrific manager who gives us plenty of leeway to play artists/labels/styles that are all too often ignored within the club atmosphere.  I also play pick-up ice hockey and I'll run with the occasional rugby club, though I haven't had time to devote to actually joining one of them.

Glad to see some familiar names/faces from some of the other communities to which I belong, and anxious to meet some others and make new friends...I've been dormant for way too long, so I'm really excited to have been invited to start writing reviews here at Chain D.L.K.  I hope that you'll find my opinions helpful and my presence entertaining.  :)
