THE DREAM EXTORTIONISTS

AND WE SHALL NEVER KNOW

video

Equal parts dramatic and dreamy, with a suitably ethereal and cosmic video to accompany it,
’And We Shall Never Know’ is taken from ‘The Dream Extortionists’, the debut solo album by
East London based musician Ian Williams, which will be released in late March 2019.

Recorded between 2005 and 2017 on a 1904 Steinway baby grand in the French village of Cogny,
an 1899 Blüthner at Studio Slaughterback in London and an unknown, earthquake-tuned piano at
the Ice Cream Studio in Tokyo, the album is a dark and disturbing trip through the decaying and
decadent last days of human civilisation, in an overpopulated world where nothing works, nobody
is content, and the masses are controlled by a handful of billionaires intent solely on not sharing their
dubiously acquired wealth, along with a smaller handful of high-tech megacorps intent solely on
owning, tracking, watching and manipulating everything we do – The Dream Extortionists.

Some tracks feature the piano as a simple solo instrument, but often it is heavily processed and
accompanied by electronic and orchestral textures, voices, and, at one point, a spaghetti-western
guitar to alter the musical landscape. Melody is key, however, albeit as the melancholic soundtrack the
Ballard-esque titles would suggest. In any case, it's about time that 'gothic chill-out' became a genre…

Ian Williams started out in the 1980’s as a founder of Beautiful Pea Green Boat, whose ethereal,
atmospheric sound pre-dated the current vogue for dream pop. More recently, he has worked with
singer Claudia Barton as Gamine, releasing two albums of dark, piano-led torch songs and lullabies.
He has also collaborated with Lebanese choreographer Joumana Mourad's dance company,
Ijad, during which time he produced music for several productions, developing a hybrid
Arabic / classical / techno / ambient style.

Industrial/Rock band 51 PEG are
pleased to announce the release of their new album AVOID. This is
their first release after a 14 year hiatus.

Check out the
video for "NOCTRL"
HERE:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7DX_2zY8mo

After
garnering a following in the Mid-Atlantic region in the mid-2000's and
sharing the stage with acts such as 30 Seconds to Mars, Orgy, and The
Birthday Massacre, the band is back with a 16-track offering that
builds on their unique blend of the alt rock, goth, prog, and
industrial genres.

51 Peg formed in 1998, with the release of
their first album "Strange Appointments" coming in 2000 which drew
comparisons to a varied group of artists like Peter Murphy, Depeche
Mode, and Orgy. The follow-up album "Esc Ctrl" featured a more
focused and polished sound, and pushed the band forward in popularity.
The group went on an indefinite hiatus in 2007 but was offered a
reunion show in 2016 which proved to be successful.

Building on
that momentum and with the combined experience gathered over the years
in other projects, the band decided to write their most ambitious
material yet. Listen to the latest evolution of the band’s sound at
51peg.com.

 THE NENT
“Vulner” CD/LP (136th Cycle)
We welcome Berlin based Italian Vince Gagliardi and his audiovisual project The Nent, who’s dream-like aesthetic is rooted in a passion for broken ambient textures, eerie field recordings and poignant percussive elements. His debut album “Vulner“ (mastered at Dadub Studio) offers 3 long progressions with explosive culminations. Mostly composed with field recordings and samples collected over the last sixteen years, all with a deep personal meaning. All tracks are interconnected and draw a path from innocence, to greed up to the inevitable extinguishment over time. The title “Vulner“ defines a feeling of compassion to this cycle humans are vulnerably exposed to. His praised live performances infuse dark ritual rhythms and surreal visual imagery, constantly challenging abstract connections in the perceiver’s mind. CD Edition of 500 copies in 4 panel in matt laminated digisleeve. 3 Tracks.

<table class=TOR LUNDVALL ANNOUNCES
A STRANGENESS IN MOTION: EARLY POP RECORDINGS 1989-1999
OUT APRIL 26 ON DAIS RECORDS
LISTEN TO “THE MELTING HOUR” HERE
As a visual artist and ambient composer, Tor Lundvall’s work often re-contextualizes the familiarity of everyday life through abstraction and space. Starting with the snapshot of a moment, Lundvall extracts its underlying complexity of the seemingly mundane and gives sleeping suggestion a presence and purpose. Mainly working sans vocals, Lundvall returned to voice exploration for 2018’s A Dark Place, a somber, dark synth album that merged his mastery of textural ambience with traditional pop structures.

Rescued from old DAT tapes A Strangeness In Motion: Early Pop Recordings 1989-1999 are some of Lundvall’s earliest completed synth pop works which have remained unreleased until now.

“For years I dismissed these songs as naive and youthful relics, but I’ve grown much fonder of them in recent years along with the memories they evoke,” he says of the decade spanning collection of tracks, many of which were sketched out in his duo with Drew Sullivan, After The Outing. “Original One”, “Procession Day”, “The Clearing”, and “The Melting Hour” are present here as solo reworkings, originally culled from his sessions with Sullivan.

The remaining songs were ideas originally considered for Passing Through Alone (1997) and its proposed follow up, provisionally and playfully titled Femalamania. “The title was summing up my girl problems at the time and also a silly word spin on Robyn Hitchcock’s Fegmania!” he says. “Sadly, the project was abandoned—a rare decision for me and perhaps the only time I’ve scrapped an album entirely.”

Though Lundvall’s work throughout the collection has the recognizable ambient bones and sensibilities he has refined throughout his career, many of the tracks call back to the synth-driven pop of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, The Human League and New Order, with the common thread being the sparse density and mood created by reservation and the lonely impulse to twist convention, not to rip it up and repurpose it. Rather than 10 disparate ideas, Lundvall’s curation of A Strangeness In Motion: Early Pop Recordings 1989-1999 feels like excerpts from a broader work, allowing the listener to fill in the holes and ladder up to his larger themes and concepts, perhaps coloring his prior works in new hues and tones.
