TARCAR ANNOUNCES MINCE GLACE 12″ EP
FOR BLACKEST EVER BLACK
LISTEN TO ‘FIREBALL’ HERE
OUT 12/15, PRE-ORDER NOW

“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.”

A modern-day revenge tragedy in six parts. Symmetrical, finespun, almost courtly; but quick-tempered with it, and far from blood-shy.

A picture emerges: domestic disturbances, pissing on the compost heap, noise complaints from hateful neighbours. Sulking, pouting, goading – a hierarchy of needs. Cold leaves and Christmas. Body-clocks betrayed. Staying up late to collect bottles to smash in the carpark across the road. Marijuana and make-believe. Cracking this thin ice with deft stomping aplomb.

Due out December 15, 2014, in an edition of 300. Recommended if you carry a torch for AC Marias, Brenda Ray, General Strike, The Poems, Robert Storey or other such angels of shut-in dub dysfunction.

HIDDEN PLACE Retrospettiva: Vol.2

Catalogue number: PM9
Format: CD + Download
Edition: 200

Now available for pre-order! Release date: November 30th

Following on from, ‘Retrospettiva: 2004 -2014’, Italian act Hidden Place re-imagine and rework 9 tracks from their previous four albums, and includes an unreleased track from 2008 and a brand new recording entitled, ‘Alla Mostra Dei Costruttivisti’, highlighting a change in direction, one that encompasses a more angular post-punk sound, whilst still retaining their trademark icy synth refrains.

Hidden Place remain steadfastly anti-genre, refusing to give in to trends, which makes them stand-out in a crowd of an oft diluted ‘scene’. Although their influences can be heard, ranging from early O.M.D. to clan of xymox, through to other Italian darkwave acts such as Die Form and The Frozen Autumn.

Released on CD in an edition of 200. Artwork by Oleg Galay

Veil of Light roundup

Two weeks in and the Veil of Light LP is moving fast, which comes as no surprise to us.

We’re working hard at getting this out to distributors all over the world and it’s already available or soon to be available from Aufnahme+Weidergabe, Wool-e Shop, Kollaps, Rundgång, Boomkat, Norman Records, Aquarius, and (T)reue um (T)reue, to name but a few. And be sure to check out the interview with Veil of Light in the new issue of Obsküre magazine.

A few reviews have come to our attention thus far:

We’re also trying to put together a Scandinavian tour for Veil of Light and Blitzkrieg Baby in March next year. Get in touch if you’re able to help out.

Brighter Death Now — With Promises of Death

CD, Familjegraven/Tesco
For the past 25+ years Brighter Death Now have obsessively attempted to recreate the sensation of being buried alive. And With Promises of Death, Roger Karmanik continues this monomaniacal quest with ferverant single-mindedness. From the opening salvo of the psychotic ramblings of Jens Garnfeldt to the closing with a hallucinatory moonlight Serenade, With Promise of Death showcase all the classic BDN calling cards; from unrelenting jackhammer rhythms and tortured pleads for the sweet release of death, to feverish dödsambient mantras. While it’s perhaps not up to the impossibly-high standards of say Great Death, this record should certainly be counted among the better albums of BDN, and it’s doubtlessly among the top ten releases of 2014.

Grand Mal x — Stealth Minds

Cassette, Black Horizons
According to Secret Decoder, Grand Mal x are “sort of a Suicide that never yells ‘Frankie,’ but we’d liken it more to ambient-techno-era of Psychic TV. There are hints of kraut motorik in there as well, and a healthy dose of lo-fi Acid House. Topped with the cryptic lyrics and the surreally complex red-and-black package design courtesy of Black Horizons, Stealth Minds comes across as alchemical magnum opus, lingering somewhere in-between nigredo and rubedo.

Thomas Stetson

Art zines
In our efforts to expand our selection of art zines, we’re proud to present the works of Thomas Stetson. The hallucinatory and nightmarish world of Stetson is inhabited by dysmorphic humans and terrifying demons; permeated by sickness, disease and madness. Macabre as they are, these insanely detailed drawings possess a certain sense of surreal humor and true warmth, giving Stetson a really unique voice. All these zines are hand-bound and -colored adding to the obsessive quality of the work.

2LP vinyl and CD versions of this synthpop gem. New stuff from Marsheaux next year!

CD bonus tracks: http://www.stormingthebase.com/marsheaux-inhale-bonus-tracks-cd/

“I do have a soft spot for Marsheaux,” Andy McCluskey of OMD has been quoted as saying, and no doubt the Greek synthpop duo have garnered many accolades in their 10 year career. Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou have indeed taken Europe’s synthpop scene by storm over four albums and high-profile remixes. The Human League played their track “What a Lovely Surprise” in the pre-show music for the Steel City tour; the duo were commissioned to do an official remix for OMD; and Tom Robinson and Stuart Maconie (BBC Radio 6 hosts) have praised their work.

2013 saw the release of Inhale, Marsheaux’s most accomplished and successful record to date, and the duo’s fourth full-length. With top marks from the likes of Vancouver’s V-Rag Magazine and Collapse Board’s Everett True, Inhale is a glorious synthpop record.

Artoffact Records re-issues Inhale on double-vinyl with all-new cover art and three previously unreleased bonus tracks. The vinyl comes in two editions, audiophile black and a limited (100 copies worldwide) translucent blue for collectors. A CD version is also available.
