Dec 202010

(Lisbon, December, 2010) Pray Silence Records is pleased to announce the signing of its newest band, UBERBYTE (Sheffield, UK).

Sheffields very own industrial heroes signed with Pray Silence Records for a deal for Europe, complimenting their successful relationship with their North American label.

“We are extremely happy to have added Uberbyte to our roster of bands”, said Bruno Patatas, of Pray Silence Records. “There is something new and fantastic developing in the electro industrial music scene, and Uberbyte is a perfect example of this great new music – they have a unique sound and approach and they have been building quite a buzz in Europe. They have an exciting potential and we are going to help them spread their music on a larger scale”.

Uberbyte singer/frontman Richard Pyne stated: “We’re delighted to be working with Pray Silence Records. It’s my belief they can help us make inroads into Europe and achieve the same sort of profile we enjoy in the UK and USA and above all they share our vision of developing the sound and production of Uberbyte to a new level. We want to give the people who enjoy our music something new and exciting in every release and this was the right time to seek a European Partner. We also want to thank Crunch Pod, who we will continue to work with in the USA and who’ve been the most supportive and honest label we could have hoped for and we’re proud to continue to work with them”.

1919.

The aftermath of the “Great War” with Germany.

The short lived Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire declared independence from imperialist Great Britain. After only six months of bitter fighting, largely involving broken glass bottles and random women screaming “kick him while he’s down”, the republic was crushed and expunged from the history books. Records were burnt, media censored, and a government policy of plausible deniability saw to it that all memory of this great experiment in British Socialism was deleted.

In the period of it’s existence however. The ruling council of the SRSY addressed numerous issues of state. Not least was the concept of raising public awareness through patriotic music. Radical developments , 60 years ahead of their time, saw the creation of a music reflecting the industrial and working class heritage of the region while rejecting Bourgeois stringed instruments and embracing new technologies.

Uberbyte were intended to be the artistic hub of the regime. Their music a pounding, relentless innovation intended to stir the working mans heart a loyalty to the new order and to the writings of the great thinkers who had inspired revolution to sweep the black hearted capitalists and warmongers from the streets of Sheffield. At nights of “righteous class anger” the Proletariat masses would engage in strange ritualistic dances known as “stomping” and demonstrations of socialist fervour largely involving yelling “Stand up for Uberbyte”.

In the fighting that foreshadowed the reabsorbing of the SRSY into the Union of Great Britain, particularly after the disastrous battle of Chapeltown where an entire division of the Purple Army* fell over drunk and caught Herpes off a “Reet Dodgy Old Prossie”, the decision was taken to cryogenic ally freeze the members of Uberbyte until the council could regroup. This never happened. And Uberman, Ubergirl, Alpha, Deadboy and ,erm, Ben slept in a secret chamber under the car park of TGI Friday’s opposite Meadowhall for nearly 90 years until an accident involving TGI’s special Jack Daniel’s Marinade, a used condom and a woman by the unfortunate name of Martha Inger saw them emerge, blinking, into the harsh sunlight of “Cool Britannia”.

2007 and without state backing the band continue life the only way they ever knew. Making loud poundy music and yelling “Stand up for Uberbyte” like nutcases. Taking their message of Socialism, Chips and Curry Sauce to an international audience with appearances across continental Europe and the united states and releasing three albums “SIC”, “DOS” and “EXS” via maverick US label Crunch Pod.

*years of working down coal mines had left the people of South Yorkshire color blind

ALGA MARGHEN (ITALY)
ALGA 076-1CD MARCHETTI, WALTER: La Caccia CD (ALGA 076-1CD) 19.00
“alga marghen very proudly presents the only authorized reissue of all Walter Marchetti original recordings previously released by Cramps Records. The recording of La Caccia, one of the most radical in the neo-avantgarde panorama for 35 years, is divided in two tracks: ‘Versione All’aria Aperta’ and ‘Versione Per Uno Spazio Chiuso’. The sound is generated by hunting calls for birds and other animals. According to Steven Stapleton, this is one of the best records ever published. The CD includes ‘La Caccia’ (1965) as well as two extreme electronic ZAJ pieces, ‘Adversus’ (Home-made electric music) (1966) and ‘Osmanthus Fragrans’ (Home-made electric music) (1973). The 16-page booklet presents the orginal scores, photos of both the 1965 ZAJ performances and of Marchetti recording La Caccia in the 1970s, photos of the concert at Galleria Multhipla in 1974, and the reproduction of the original La Caccia LP layout. All texts are published both in English and Italian. First included in an LP sized 4CD box set together with 3 other CDs titled In Terram Utopicam, Natura Morta and Vandalia, plus the new book by Walter Marchetti titled De Musica Inversa, an instruction manual of both theory and practice for the proper and improper use of music, this CD is also available now, separately from the complete box set, in a very limited number of copies.”

ALGA WM MARCHETTI, WALTER: De Musica Inversa Book (ALGA WM) 34.00
“alga marghen very proudly presents the new book by Walter Marchetti titled De Musica Inversa, an instruction manual of both theory and practice for the proper and improper use of music. A method for perfecting oneself in composition annotated and commented upon by Gabriele Bonomo.’The most amazing thing about music is its exterior aspect. High, vertical, translucent, almost turgid, maybe a bit too monolithic. One should, in any case, give a lot of attention to the large number of interstices which lead to the centre of the ear, wherefrom sounds spread out through a dense network leading to more circuits which direct these same and their relationships directly to the brain, in a logic of musical articulation which is nothing less than frightening. Even if, to attentive listening, dominating all is the eye of silence.’The 180-page De Musica Inversa book is published in both English and Italian. First included in an LP sized 4CD box set together with other 4 CDs titled La Caccia, In Terram Utopicam, Natura Morta and Vandalia, this book is also available now, separately from the complete box set, in a very limited number of copies.’Too true: in all music there are, in effect, a lot of sounds henceforth?more than that, too many; everything that we listen to has become heavy beyond measure, completely unbearable. Rather than chasing it we should look for how to escape from music. Everything in it is monolithic, frozen, and the notes of music which slowly, more or less, are thickening around the listeners wrap them all in dripping blankets of death.'”
MARGHEN 034CD PATTERSON, BEN: Born In The State Of FLUX/us 2CD (MARGHEN 034CD) 48.00
“Published for the opening of Ben Patterson first large retrospective exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum in Houston, this double CD anthology includes both historical recordings taken from the Early Works (issued some years ago by alga marghen), from 370 Flies CDs (an art multiple also issued by alga marghen and long sold out) as well as the first digital version of the no longer available LP titled A Fluxus Elegy and a previously unpublished track. The first CD starts with the first ever recording of ‘Ants’ (1960), one of Ben Patterson first graphic scores, pre-dating the Fluxus group. Also included in this CD are two essential 1961 documents: ‘Duo For Voice And A String Instrument’ and ‘Variations for Double-bass’, both recorded in concert at the Galerie Parnass in 1962; this event has special historic significance in that it included the first public presentation by George Maciunas of his Fluxus manifesto and plans for the Wiesbaden Fluxus Festival. Two more tracks titled ‘Paper Piece'(1960), the work that cut the umbilical cord to all of the author’s previous classical and contemporary musical training and experience, and ‘Pond’ (1962), a piece that reminds of Richard Maxfield’s electronic music with voice collage, see the collaboration of Philip Corner, Walter Marchetti and Davide Mosconi. The second CD includes more recent works as ‘A Simple Opera’ (1995), a repetitive hommage to Emmett Willons on his 70th birthday, also recorded in collaboration with Philip Corner, Walter Marchetti and Davide Mosconi; ‘370 Flies’ (2003) for electronic loops and voice; as well as ‘A Fluxus Elegy’ (2006), previously issued on Alga Marghen’s VocSon LP series and based on the basic principles of the polyphonic music of the Bantu tribes of West and Central Africa, applied to the initials of artists listed in Fluxus: The Most Radical and Experimental Art Movement of the Sixties, through encoding them in basic International Morse Code. Starting as a virtuoso double-bass performer of classical music, Ben Patterson was one of the very first founders of the Fluxus Group in Wiesban. This digipak CD will introduce you to some American neo-avantgarde music classics, a crossover between John Cage exploding influences and the experimental art atmosphere of the early 1960s in Europe. Edition limited to 200 copies in silkscreened digipack sleeve, including a 4 page folded insert with liner notes, original score as well as performance photos and program from the 1962 concert at Galerie Parnass, Wuppertal.”
ANALOG AFRICA (GERMANY)
AALP 069LP VA: Angola Soundtrack 2LP (AALP 069LP) 25.00
Double vinyl version, in deluxe gatefold sleeve and printed inner sleeves which replicate all of the liner notes from the CD version booklet. Subtitled: The Unique Sound Of Luanda 1968-1976. The nascent Angolan music scene was set on fire by a small group of intrepid singers, backed by an array of super-tight bands and led by extraordinary guitarists who revolutionized the musical and the political panorama of the ’60s and ’70s. A powerful confluence of traditional rhythms from Luanda’s islands, psychedelic guitar sounds imported from neighboring Congo, Latin grooves, old school Caribbean merengue and the hard beat of the Angolan carnival bands conspired to create the modern music of Angola. These sounds were immortalized by two excellent recording companies — Fadiang (Fábrica De Discos Angolano) and Valentim de Carvalho. The great electric bands of Angola were a well-kept secret until the late ’90s when France-based music label Buda Musique released a short-lived series of Angolan music compiled by Ariel de Bigault. Inspired and taken aback, the releases proved to be a pivotal juncture for Analog Africa’s founder Samy Ben Redjeb. From the nine Analog Africa releases thus far, Angola Soundtrack has been the most difficult to create. The travel visa was in itself a struggle and logistically and financially, Luanda is a nightmare. After two unsuccessful years, Samy eventually found shelter at a home in Prenda, a musseque (township) outside of the capital. With the support of Zé Keno, the legendary guitarist of Jovens Do Prenda, he managed to meet most of the composers of the tunes presented here. The anecdotes they provided are numerous. Boto Trindade, guitarist of Os Bongos, abandoned his dream of becoming a football player to support his brother’s family by earning money as a musician. A very young Zé Keno went to see his favorite guitarist Marito performing with Os Kiezos and consequently built a three-stringed guitar only to become one of the most sought-after guitarists in the country a mere few years later. Angolan music is truly unique and stands on its own as a sound that can only be found in that part of the world. Rhythms such rebita, kazucuta, semba and merengue, all of which are presented in this latest compilation, might be unfamiliar, but they are superbly melodic, highly danceable, hypnotic, raw and quintessentially beautiful and totally addictive.

Deetron, Octave One and Jori Hulkkonen put their hands on some Aril Brikha classics. In 1998, Brikha reacquainted the world with deep techno soul, as his recording of “Groove La Chord” crossed generic boundaries. Is it techno? Is it house? Is it deep house? It’s everything and nothing. Aril’s own label, Art Of Vengeance presents its first release with versions of “Groove La Chord” and “Read Only Memory” from the Deeparture In Time 12″ released in 2000.
ART UNION (JAPAN)
ARTUP 006CD VA: Cosmopolyphonic CD (ARTUP 006CD) 20.00
“This compilation is focused on up-and-coming beat-makers worldwide, with, of course, a special emphasis on the Japanese scene, but through the lens of the Low End Theory/Brainfeeder noise emanating from L.A. Non-Japanese customers will no doubt focus on the non-Japanese names like TOKiMONSTA, Onra, and Devonwho, but those names are not necessarily attached to the best tracks.”
ATLANTIC
ATL 1364LP COLEMAN, ORNETTE: Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation LP (ATL 1364LP) 11.50
Originally released in 1960, Free Jazz was recorded in one uninterrupted take: Coleman, Scott LaFaro, Don Cherry, & Billy Higgins are on the left stereo channel; Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell are on the right. “We were expressing our minds and emotions as much as could be captured by electronics.” Gatefold exact repro reissue, manufactured by Rhino.
ATL 1378LP COLEMAN, ORNETTE: Ornette! LP (ATL 1378LP) 11.50
Originally released in 1962, recorded a month after Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation. With Don Cherry, Scott LaFaro and Ed Blackwell. “Ornette Coleman’s proposition is a very simple one: release me from the bondage of long out-dated harmonic and formal conventions, and I will take you away from the wallpaper-like cliches of my contemporaries and let you hear a world of sound which you have never heard before, which is free, and which is beholden only to its own innermost logic and discipline.” Exact repro reissue, manufactured by Rhino.
SC 1502LP KIRK, ROLAND: The Inflated Tear LP (SC 1502LP) 11.50
1968 album featuring Ron Burton (piano), Steve Novosel (bass) and Jimmy Hopps (drums). Between opener “The Black And Crazy Blues” and closing track “Lovellevelliloqui,” Rahsaan Roland Kirk tenderly surrenders himself to pure sound, although there’s some “middle of the road blowing” in-between to keep your head in place. Exact repro reissue, manufactured by Rhino.
SD 1525LP LATEEF, YUSEF: Yusef Lateef’s Detroit: Latitude 42º30′-Longitude 83º LP (SD 1525LP) 11.50
Originally released in 1969. Exact repro, manufactured by Rhino. “The string section, as heard on the opener ‘Bishop School,’ is far from the pastoral or classically seeking group of recordings past, but another rhythmic and melodic construct that delves deep into the beat and the almighty riff that this recording is so full of. For all of the soul-jazz pouring forth from the Blue Note and Prestige labels at the time, this album stood apart for its Eastern-tinged melodies on ‘Eastern Market’; the ‘Black Bottom,’ gutbucket, moaning bluesiness on ‘Russell and Elliot,’ with Gale and Lateef on tenor trading fours in a slowhanded, low-end groove; and the solid, Motown-glazed, rocking Latin soul of ‘Belle Isle.'” — All Music Guide
BOYSNOIZE RECORDS (GERMANY)
BNR 053EP DRIVER, JAN: Gain Reaction 12″ (BNR 053EP) 12.00
Techno mainstay Jan Driver presents a selection of 4 tracks for Boysnoize Records — “Gain Reaction,” a good, fun, heavy bass bleep champ, “CS40M,” a slower, powerful jam that creates an energetic build-up of pink noise and 303 sounds for a very special atmosphere, “Hornetbeef,” tech-house at its best, and “MecaFunk” — darker techno and big sounds, the right track to close this magnificent production. What more do you need?
CASABLANCA
NBLP 7034LP PARLIAMENT: The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LP (NBLP 7034LP) 11.50
Exact repro of this 1976 episode of the Parliament saga, opening with backwards-masked weirdo vocals declaring “funk is its own reward.” Bernie Worrell and Fred Wesley split the horn arrangements, while Bootsy Collins and George Clinton address the scientific community at large. Of course, this is a concept album… or something.
CICADELIC RECORDS
CIC 976CD VA: Psychedelic Moods- Part Two CD (CIC 976CD) 15.00
Subtitled: Journey Thru Inner Space With Sunset Love & Inner Sanctum. “After releasing the Psychedelic Moods album, in October of 1966, Mark Barkan envisioned another psychedelic album for his next release. It was to be performed by a Greenwich Village band called Inner Sanctum. The theme of the album was to be a psychedelic journey into the various psyches of the mind. The trip started with a journey into the past (‘The House Of Yesterday’) then covered the inner workings of the mind (‘ID’) then the descent into madness (‘Hydro Pyro’) hallucination (‘Purple Floating’) and finally culminating in nirvana (‘Snow Petals’). Unfortunately, Barkan was unable to find a record company willing to lease the masters and so they languished for decades unreleased. Now, at long last the masters for this aborted album are mixed from the original four track tapes and forty plus years later the psychedelic sounds of Inner Sanctum are now ready, willing, and able to blow your mind. Sunset Love was comprised of band members from New Mexico and Texas. In the fall of 1968, thirteen original songs and two covers were recorded for a potential album, but nothing was ever released. Sunset Love’s lush harmonies, soaring vocals, superior song writing, and flower power consciousness pervaded their songs with a depth and quality unheard of from most 60s’ bands. While their sound can be compared to such bands as The Mamas and The Papas, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Spanky and Our Gang, and The Love Exchange, Sunset Love had their own inimitable style that transcended a generic stereo-type. Had Sunset Love released their album in the 60’s, there is no doubt it would have been an instant rarity of excellence. The Sunset Love tapes are sourced from the original stereo versions and reveal the great harmonies and surrealistic lyrics of an undeservedly overlooked and forgotten band from the late ’60s.”
CIRCUS COMPANY (FRANCE)
CCS 052EP POLIAKOV, OLEG: Comet EP 12″ (CCS 052EP) 12.00
Oleg Poliakov’s Comet EP introduces another view to his musical approach. With “Stellar,” Oleg tightens his grooves to a maximum. Creating an irresistible energy, the beats create an ideal stage for a reverent fanfare and a sexy voice. “Comet” features a deep, trance-inducing bass line while the whirl of a snare drum and the saxophone hold the dancers firmly on the dancefloor. “Exoplanet” defies all stylistic boundaries. The frenzy of the grooves is absorbed by the grace of detached Detroit sounds.
DE STIJL
DESTIJL 085EP CIRCUIT DES YEUX: Ode To Fidelity 7″ (DESTIJL 085EP) 5.50
“3 new songs from Haley Fohr. Seemingly inspired by something or someone that has pierced her young, little heart, Ms Fohr has established herself as one of the most ambitious songwriters (for anyone who’s taken the time to actually listen to her previous efforts). These sounds form a part of the arc that I doubt has apexed. This single will echo between yr ears till the new full length is complete, surely a monster in full.”
DESTIJL 088LP HYPE WILLIAMS: Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite… LP (DESTIJL 088LP) 16.00
…And Start Gettin Reel. “Hype Williams may or may not consist of two people named D. Blunt and Inga Copeland, it may or may not still be part of an 18 year relay project thought up by a lady named Denna Frances Glass. Lately there has also been rumor that it is the side project of singer Joss Stone (she evidently financed the making of it). Either way, when asked for a statement concerning Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite, And Start Gettin Reel, we’ve been informed via email from Inga Copeland only these words: ritolin (sic) and rama lama 555 (sic).”
DIGITALIS
DIGI 016LP TWELLS & CHRISTENSEN: Coasts LP (DIGI 016LP) 18.00
Coasts has been a long time in the making. John Twells (aka Xela) and Matt Christensen (of Zelienople) have been collaborating in various forms for years, but this is their first fully-realized work. The entire album was made with vintage gear and recorded to 8-track during a weekend in Chicago in 2008 and finally mixed at Twells’ Seventh Door Studio outside Boston. The resulting record is a spectral odyssey in two parts. Darkened passages shift and fall apart while keeping the piercing sun at bay. Faint song structures lurk beneath the rolling black waves, but only get an arm above the surface during those rare moments of light. Opening with “The Crate,” immediately you are immersed inside the belly of the whale as Twells’ siren call gets trapped beneath Christensen’s bleak guitar notes. It all feels held together by the thinnest of threads. Rattling tones crawl out from underneath swirls of electronics, like barely-there points of reference in a white-out. Lines are crossed but blur together and everything ends up sounding like a desperate, beautiful collage of sound. It’s all a ruse, anyway, as you are tricked into a sense of calm as the dying orchestral zones gently flame out. “Burning Bridges Together” is your reward for buying in. Crunching guitar chords bowl into you at full-force, moving slow but piling on the pressure. Christensen belts out the vocals this go-round, getting buried underneath endless washes of fuzz-soaked cacaphony. Tension rises to the point of no return as they desperately search for a breaking point. Things finally settle down and gently fade into oblivion, Christensen’s guitar providing the final epitaph. In the end, the seamless nature of the collaboration is what really leaves its mark.
DISKO B (GERMANY)
DB 156CD CONSOLE: Herself CD (DB 156CD) 17.00
Four years after the last Console release Mono (DB 140CD/LP), it’s time for some new vivid life signs of the famous Weilheim-based collective. This time, the new album titled Herself is a bit more of a solo attempt. Due to mastermind Martin Gretschmann’s always-packed calendar, it’s no surprise that first drafts of this album came to life on his laptop while on tour with The Notwist. The final recordings then took place in his studio together with singer Miriam Osterrieder and a bunch of electronic toys. Martin Gretschmann can be called — in the best sense — a creative factotum: The Notwist’s electronic wizard since 1997, as well as member of the all-star combo 13&God (a collaboration by The Notwist and the Anticon hip-hoppers Themselves). Under his alter ego Acid Pauli, he not only performs extraordinary club sets but also brings some humor onto the minimal dancefloor. Herself is not a born-and-bred ambient album, but bristles with bright pop appeal. Gretschmann, the alchemist, synthesizes beats, sounds and samples, creating unpretentious melodies and atmospheres. Miriam Osterrieder’s voice is much more present and smelts the sentiment between pop and ambient into simple, wonderful songs. Console has already caused quite a stir with their releases for different labels like the major Virgin as well as for seminal indies like Payola and Matador. They have made a live album, several radio plays, and have collaborated with Björk, Tocotronic and Depeche Mode. After Mono and the re-release of the debut Pan Or Ama (DB 144CD), this album is another step in Console’s esteemed band history.

“After rising to fame as the bright new star of West Coast cool jazz, and winning a slew of polls, Chet Baker took his show on the road, touring all over the U.S., including a stopover in the college town of Ann Arbor, MI for their spring music festival in 1954. Recorded live, this quartet performance, featuring Russ Freeman on piano, Carson Smith on bass, and Bob Neel on drums was one of the first recordings of Baker fronting his own group, but already Baker was arguably at the top of his game. His smooth and seemingly effortless lines hang in the air like threads of perfectly spun silk, as the rhythm section, led by a flawless Russ Freeman, works overtime. Thanks to impeccable live dates such as this one, Baker’s devotees became increasingly numerous, and for a fleeting moment it seemed as if nothing could stop this rising star of jazz.”
DOX 844LP MONK, THELONIOUS: 5 By Monk By 5 LP (DOX 844LP) 21.00
“Recorded in 1959 for Riverside, Thelonious Monk’s 5 By Monk By 5 is exactly that: 5 Monk originals played in a quintet setting. Monk, who was famous for trying to showcase many of the lesser-known talents out there, uses this album as an opportunity to highlight the cornet playing of Thad Jones, and the two new pieces on this album–‘Jackie-ing’ (named for Monk’s niece) and ‘Played Twice’–were written with Jones’ cornet playing in mind. The quintet is filled out by Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), Sam Jones (bass), and Art Taylor (drums). Rouse would go on to become one of Monk’s main sidemen over the next decade.” 180 gram vinyl.
DOX 845LP MONK, THELONIOUS: Thelonious Alone In San Francisco LP (DOX 845LP) 21.00
“When jazz music is so often a delicate balance of sounds all coming together to form a complete whole, it is interesting to hear how a jazz legend of this caliber handles himself when all alone under the bright lights. Monk’s style of piano playing was nothing short of revolutionary when he first came onto the jazz scene in the 1940s, and there is no way to hear this more clearly than on an album of unaccompanied piano solos such as this one. Recorded in 1959 in San Francisco, Monk plays his own classic compositions like ‘Ruby, My Dear’ and ‘Blue Monk,’ along with some pieces composed particularly for this album, including ‘Round Lights’ and ‘Bluehawk’.” 180 gram vinyl.
DOX 846LP HOLIDAY, BILLIE: The ‘Commodore’ Days LP (DOX 846LP) 21.00
“In 1939 when Billie Holiday’s label refused to record the highly controversial ‘Strange Fruit’, she did not give up, but searched desperately for a label that was not afraid to take a risk. Thankfully Milt Gabler at Commodore Records, a fledgling independent jazz label, understood the importance of this song being recorded and released to the public and soon arranged for Holiday to record a session with him. The ‘Strange Fruit session’ for Commodore, was one of those historic moments and part of Billie Holiday’s legend hinges on the tremendous courage it took for her go ahead and record this song, knowing that it might well mean the end of her career. Three other songs, found here, were also recorded at that session: ‘Yesterdays’, ‘Fine And Mellow’ and ‘I Gotta Right To Sing the Blues’, while due to contractual issues, the remaining Commodore sides were not recorded until five years later in 1944.” 180 gram vinyl.
DOX 847LP BAKER, CHET: Chet LP (DOX 847LP) 21.00
“Every musician has his area of expertise and for Chet Baker that area was the ballad. Therefore, this album dedicated entirely to ballads, gives listeners a chance to hear Baker doing what he does best — and when Chet Baker does what he does best, he does it better than any other trumpet player in the history of jazz. For this session, recorded on December 30, 1958 at NYC’s Reeves Sound Studios, the poster child of West Coast cool jazz (who had just turned twenty-nine) assembled a superlative East Coast sextet that featured the unusual front-line combination of flute (Herbie Mann), trumpet (Baker) and baritone (Pepper Adams), departing occasionally from this format, however, to showcase the guitar playing of Kenny Burrell. Pianist Bill Evans, Philly Joe Jones (drums), Paul Chambers (bass), all well-known for their association with Miles Davis, and all some of the top names in jazz are also featured here, along with drummer Connie Kay of the Modern Jazz Quartet. This album represents some of the last studio work Baker did before emigrating permanently to Europe. It also includes one of Baker’s own compositions, ‘Early Morning Mood,’ recorded at the same studio and with the same line-up on January 19, 1959 as a bonus track.” 180 gram vinyl.
DOX 848LP BAKER, CHET: Live In Florence 1956 LP (DOX 848LP) 21.00
“In 1955, a 26-year-old Chet Baker made his first trip to Europe. Over a period of about six months, Baker toured Italy, Germany, France and Denmark. On January 24, 1956 Baker gave this quintet performance in Florence, Italy at the prominent music conservatory ‘Conservatorio Cherubini,’ using all European players, some of whom (Francy Boland and Eddie De Haas) Baker liked so much that he invited them back to the States to continue playing with him.” 180 gram vinyl.
DOY 005LP WILLIAMS, HANK: Six More Miles To The Graveyard 6LP BOX (DOY 005LP) 135.00
“Once in a great while a truly superlative musical talent comes along, it only happens a handful of times per century, and one of those times ‘it’ was Hank Williams. Despite his swift and total rise to superstardom by the age of 25, by 29 he was dead in the back of his own Cadillac…but it is what happened in the interim that made all the difference. While America, returning victorious from the War in 1945, attempted to create an image of a invincibility, wealth and power, there was a guy with a guitar from a place called ‘Wrong Side of the Tracks’ who had another story to tell, a story that, amid all the propaganda and ticker tape parades, Americans could relate to and — judging from the record sales — obviously wanted to hear. From 1947 to 1953 Hank Williams recorded 66 songs under his own name, of which 37 were hits, enough to last country music stations for the next half a century and beyond. Songs like ‘Cold Cold Heart’, ‘Hey Good Lookin”, ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’, ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’, and many more, have become standards in American music. These 6 LPs: I Saw The Light, Honky Tonkin’, Sing Me A Blue Song, Ramblin’ Man, Sings, and Montgomery, were originally mostly released in the 10″ format between 1954 and 1959 (and were themselves a collection of various studio sessions and previous ’78s), except for Sings, originally released in 1951, and Montgomery, a collection of rare early private recordings, radio airchecks and demos, with the earliest recording being ‘Happy Rovin’ Cowboy’, from 1939, when Hank was just 16 years old. Now collected together in a luxury edition box set!”
DOY 645LP JAMES, ELMORE: The Broomdusters Box 3LP BOX/2CD (DOY 645LP) 60.00
“King of the electric slide guitar and one of the most influential blues guitarists / vocalists of all time, Elmore James had his first hit in 1951, with ‘Dust My Broom’, the opening riff of which is perhaps the single most recognizable in the history of blues. During the early fifties his band was one of the most popular on the Chicago blues scene and throughout the decade James recorded a flurry of sides for many different labels. However, James, like many Chicago bluesmen was originally from Mississippi (b. 1918) and during his early years he played the southern circuit, where he had the chance to meet and play with Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin’ Wolf. Unfortunately James died in 1963 at the age of 45, but not before influencing a new generation of rock & roll guitarists (i.e. Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones to name just a few). Featuring some early sides with Ike Turner on piano, as well as his ‘classic’ Broomdusters line-up with Johnny Jones on piano and JT Brown on sax for a grand total of 54 tracks recorded from 1952-1960! A definitive retrospective of one of the giants of the blues now on both vinyl and CD versions in one shot!” Includes 2 CDs featuring all the material on the 3 LPs.

EXPLP 016LP BLACK SWAN: In 8 Movements LP (EXPLP 016LP) 16.00
“Marking a clandestine arrival out of, seemingly, nowhere, Black Swan emerges from the shadowy billows of smoke to immerse listeners in a lucid, cavernous dream, tracing silhouettes in the darkness with drowning ambience and orchestrated drones that screech and howl intermittently amongst the disorienting magnetic tape disturbances. Black Swan operates under a guise of far-away sounds traveling through murky waters, drowning the listener in its heavy-handed layers of ghostly resonance.”

GET ON DOWN
GET 52707CD KLEEER: Intimate Connection CD (GET 52707CD) 15.00
“Listen to 80s classic funk soul like never before on Get On Down’s reissue of Intimate Connection, the 1984 release by New York-based disco/funk group Kleeer. Abounding with smooth, sliding grooves, seductive lyrics, and classic 80s electro-funk synth, Intimate Connection is a classic piece that should hold a place in any music lover’s collection. The album’s title track not only climbed the R&B charts in 1984 but served years later as the baseline for Tupac’s giant hit, ‘California Love’ in 1995. Woody Cunningham, the group’s drummer, writer, vocalist and co-producer, sadly passed away in January of 2010, but left behind him a music repertoire that continues to hit the airwaves today. Kleeer’s unforgettable funk style has been sampled further by artists such as Ice Cube and Jay Z, and Woody’s lyrical talents can be found in collaborations with current hip hop songstress Alicia Keys. Intimate Connection, the group’s sixth album on Atlantic Records, provides a classic and timeless snapshot of 80s funk groove. Appreciate the music of Kleeer like never before on this digitally remastered exclusive CD release.” Packaged in a heavy mini-LP style cover in a dust sleeve with obi strip.
GET 52708CD FAZE-O: Riding High CD (GET 52708CD) 15.00
“Get On Down proudly presents, for the first time on CD, the re-release of the spacey soul classic Riding High by Chicago funk quintet Faze-O. Having made an impact on the Billboard charts in 1978 with their most successful single ‘Riding High’, Faze-O stake their claim as masters of soulful, groovy funk music. Produced by Clarence Satchell of the Ohio Players, the whole album percolates with heavy guitar and a medley of fresh, funky keyboards. Despite producing only two albums during their career, Faze-O, as sampled by popular groups such as EPMD, remains ever present with cuts that capture an unforgettable snapshot of the era. Offered now on this exclusive, digitally remastered CD edition, the music of Faze-O comes alive like never before.” Packaged in a heavy mini-LP style cover in a dust sleeve with obi strip.
GUERILLA REISSUES
SBR 202LP VA: Sitar Beat!: Indian Style Heavy Funk Vol. II 2LP (SBR 202LP) 15.00
2007 release. “Sixteen tracks of rare and funky Indian flavor, blending heavy beats with the sounds of the sitar and the inimitable vocal sounds of beloved Indian singers such as the ubiquitous Asha Bhosle and producers/songwriters like Kalyanji Ananji and R. D. Burman. Most of the tracks are culled from Bollywood sound tracks from the 70s and early 80s. Enormously popular, often wild and packed with action and romance, these films put the intense music of star composers like Burman and Kalyanji & Anandji at the forefront. The strange, psychedelic sounds possess their own cultural mish-mash of flavors — combining traditional Indian instrumentation and melodies with film music’s intensity, and incorporating styles from American/Western music from about 5 years or so behind the trend. All this to say — expect funk, psychedelic rock, disco and proto-electro to jump out from the grooves of Sitar Beat Volume 2 and hit you harder than a mouth full of spicy masala. This is soul from the Sub-continent at its best!”
GUERSSEN RECORDS (SPAIN)
GUESS 073LP BLACKBURN & MARY LAUREN, JOHNNY: Echoes Of Love’s Reality LP (GUESS 073LP) 27.50
“Most would probably agree that this is one of the very best psych-style LPs from the 1980s. Not retro at all but (like Bobb Trimble) a piece of the late 1960s preserved from time’s rust. Male/female vocals lament and serenade the quest for knowledge of love and beauty in an appealing soundscape, with lyrical guitar leads throughout, good use of mellotron, occasional tablas, flute and bells. The recording has a definite 1981 sound but (again, like Bobb Trimble) this somehow becomes an advantage. There’s not a questionable song on this album, recommended to anyone open for a soft, dreamy trip inside the melancholy and bliss of an acid-tinted romance.” –Patrick Lundborg, The Acid Archives; High-quality reissue in 180 gram vinyl, housed in a nice package with original artwork, unbeatable remastered sound quality and also including a huge 16-page booklet with lyrics and drawings. Limited edition of 500 copies only.

HOPSCOTCH
HOP 022CD KRETZMER TRIO, YONI: Nevertheless CD (HOP 022CD) 14.00
“Yoni Kretzmer, newly arrived in NYC, has just produced his second CD, Nevertheless. In it he progresses still further on his unique journey, an emotional and quizzical investigation of naïve melodies with a twist: simple truths skeptically reexamined, which while uncompromisingly intelligent, nonetheless — nevertheless — do not alienate, but rather engage the listener on what is almost an invasively emotional plane. Yoni is a true master of his craft: his music is challenging, never boring, and incredibly personal, almost to the point of voyeurism. A young Israeli avant-garde jazz saxophonist, he has been described as a passionate and accurate player, with the maturity and depth of a veteran jazz musician. After his first CD, in which Kretzmer used an almost unlikely arrangement of saxophone, bass, drums, cello and viola, in this CD Kretzmer goes back to basics — giving his own take on the traditional sax-bass-drums trio. Mike and Jason are the ideal sides to this triangle: Mike Pride, despite his sophisticated innovativeness, approaches the drums with a primal intensity, and Jason Ajermian’s extravagant bass provides an essential depth to this trio’s sound. The CD consists of ten of Kretzmer’s minimally planned ideas — whims almost — which provide a conceptual framework for free exploration. The piece entitled ‘four notes’ is in fact an exploration of exactly that: of four notes. That is all Kretzmer wrote down.”

KLA 006EP JULES & MOSS: Noke EP 12″ (KLA 006EP) 12.00
Klangfarbe Schallplatten presents the first full EP by Jules & Moss, containing three new tracks and one remix. “Kapoun” is a cool & sophisticated accordion track in a typical French tradition, but with a modern groove. “Noke” is a relaxed minimal groover with organic percussion, nice melodies and some freaky sounds. Channel X have remixed this track into a more uplifting version. “Soep Van De Dag” (Dutch for “Soup Of The Day”) starts fairly neo-trance-y but ends with nice organs.
LE SMOKE DISQUE
LSD 003LP VA: El Mexico ’70: El Funk Pesado Y Rock LP (LSD 003LP) 8.50
2007 release. “Heavyweight funk and psychedelic rock from South of the Border pressed loud on wax! The formula behind El Mexico 70 is simple — good Mexican funk is rare as hell, obscenely expensive, and often pressed low on poor quality vinyl. This new series — which has aspirations to stretch further into South America — takes raw, funky source material, and remasters, edits and chops it together into dance-floor filling smashes! The psychedelic funkers Rabbits and Carrots get three songs on Side A. Their ‘Cuatro Culturas,’ a Mexican stand off, if you will, with James Brown’s ‘Give It Up Turn It Loose’, is probably one of the only examples of the Godfather losing to those whose music he spawned. Well, at least, tying for first place! Their version of Rufus Thomas’s ‘Funky Chicken,’ however, squarely knocks the Crown Prince of Dance on his ass! Lastly, the drums that start their cover of Jorge Ben’s ‘Pais Tropical’ make the song worth inclusion — but the swinging boogaloo funk that follows is nothing to sniff at. Side B starts off with one of the heaviest psychedelic rock jams to originate in Mexico. Las Moskas ‘Buscando La Felicidad’ switches tempo effortlessly, and never loses the groove. Jae’s Soul gets a worthwhile edit, and bonus beats to extend those funky drums, and the EP closes with yet another band besting Rufus Thomas — this time with a superb rendition of his ‘Push And Pull.'”
LODUBS
LODUBS SR004EP CLUBROOT: Remixes I 12″ + CD (LODUBS SR004EP) 8.50
“As for looking at the source material in another way (i.e. the remix), it, for us, is a bit like a skilled actor who is known for comedy who suddenly demonstrates a command of drama. Each of the tracks and their elements are so strong, that once we handed them to other artists known for different shades of music, we knew genius would emerge. SPL — a pillar of drum and bass, known the world over for the massive tours he embarks upon as part of the Therapy Sessions — has for a few years been exploring dubstep, with quite a few major successes in this sound under his belt (‘Storm in my Heart,’ ‘Masters of Rave,’ to name a couple). Here SPL Remixes ‘Sempiternal’ and in doing so transforms it into a fearsome beast never before imagined. Bryan Zentz is a singular name in techno, with releases on just about any important label one can name in that genre. He started experimenting with techno-based dub in the year 2002, but to a large degree kept his prototypes unknown. Here he alloys those discoveries to ‘Dulcet’ with a tinge of dark synth melody akin to ’80s minimal wave, with outstanding results. Kuma is one of the original elevators of the sound in Vancouver BC, who had a featured shout out in the original Breezeblock Dubstep Wars, and has releases on Immerse/ Konspiracy/etc. We hear the hidden ghosts within ‘Dulcet’ with his spooky treatment. This, as a remix record, is the fourth in our Special Series releases, and will come packaged in a black dubplate jacket, hand stamped in silver.”

MAGIC DISC
TEG 9910CD DOVE & THE DEVILS, NAT: Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil’s Son-In-Law Original Soundtrack CD (TEG 9910CD) 13.00
2007 release. “Official reissue of this lost funky soundtrack from 1977 that features the one and only Rudy Ray Moore, otherwise known as Dolemite, and his band Nat Dove and the Devils, available for the first time ever on CD! Nat Dove has been playing blues, boogie-woogie and barrelhouse music for over four decades. And, as one of the last of a breed of blues pianist, Dove is the most sought after and respected blues pianist in the western United States. Dove has been featured on the recordings of Robert Cray, George ‘Harmonica’ Smith, Freddie King, Big Mama Thornton, T-Bone Walker, Pee Wee Crayton, Louis Meyers and Big Joe Turner… just to name a few. Nat Dove and his funky combo The Devils lay down a monster set of grooves that virtually define the Blaxploitation sound. Most of the tracks on here are instrumentals, and a few of the cuts have vocals by Mary Love. The original is so rare it is impossible to find, and this reissue has excellent sound quality taken from the original master tapes. Includes the highly sought after funk classics ‘Junkie Chase’, ‘Zombie March’, ‘Ghetto Street U.S.A’, and ‘Petey Wheatstraw’ along with the original track listing and cover artwork.”

MINUS 094EP GAISER: Unstable Static 12″ (MINUS 094EP) 11.00
Following Gaiser’s recent digital-only productions, M_nus decided to create a special vinyl release featuring the two stand-out tracks from both EPs. “Static Level” is a trip into the insanity of late-night repetition. From as early as the first full listen, it’s obvious that Gaiser is the master of the subtle build; patiently modulating sounds and grooves so fluidly, it’s difficult to truly know when one phase has began, and another has ended.

“John Bassman Group was a late 60s Dutch group, that recorded their only album in Germany on the A.S.P. label in 1970. Chimera was originally released on the South African Vertigo label in early 1974. Original copies are very sought after by collectors and are among the rarest and most expensive ones of the Vertigo Swirl/Spaceship label worldwide. After this album, Duncan MacKay moved to the UK and became famous for his participation in Baker Gurvitz Army, Colosseum ll, Cockney Rebel, Camel, Budgie, Alan Parsons Project and even the first 3 Kate Bush albums.” Gatefold, 180 gram vinyl.
MV 021LP SANDSTONE: Can You Mend A Silver Thread? LP (MV 021LP) 32.00
“Sandstone’s sole 1971 privately pressed album is one of the best and rarest early 70s US psychedelic folk rock records. Although only recently rediscovered, it is very sought after from worldwide collectors both for its rarity and musical quality. Great male female vocals in an early 70s UK psychedelic acid folk rock sound similar to Tudor Lodge, Jade etc. It contains 2 previously unreleased bonus tracks, not included in the original album. Highly recommended! Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, from the original analogue master tapes, exact reproduction of the original first pressing.”
MV 022LP DEUTER: D LP (MV 022LP) 32.00

D, his first album, was released on the legendary Kuckuck label in 1971 and is considered to be a classic. With guitars, sitar, organ, harmonium, Asian and Oriental percussion, etc., it is a mixture of psychedelic underground rock, cosmic music and ethnic fusion, at places similar to Amon Düül 2, Between and Popol Vuh. Limited edition, deluxe 180g vinyl, exact reproduction of the original first pressing.”

MOBILEE 072EP SCHNEIDER, ANJA: Pushin 12″ (MOBILEE 072EP) 12.00
For the Pushin EP, Anja Schneider partnered up with Paul Brtschitsch, with whom she co-produced her debut LP Beyond The Valley in 2008. Famed for playing DJ sets that always come with a powerful bass and sexy groove, “Pushin” is the perfect production equivalent of Anja Schneider’s club performances. The title track comes with a soulful vocal, while “Strong Way” is a female interpretation of the same track. “Don’t Feel Anything” takes you on an eerie ride with whispered utterances.
NERO’S NEPTUNE
NN 010LP EIH, A.L.K. AND BROTHER CLARK, DAMIN: Never Mind LP (NN 010LP) 32.50
Now available on vinyl in a limited edition of 475 copies. On many hard-core psych collectors’ Top 10 lists, this insanely rare and impossible-to-describe 1973 brain-fryer from Minneapolis is utterly soaked with mystic, thoroughly-dosed higher key psychedelia. It is a truly unhinged gem of out-there, acid-dipped geniusness, with quavering vocals, flanged-out guitars & effects, acoustic ramble, and fuzz confusion. Damin Eih wandered off to India to clear his head after leaving behind this lone, legendary offering, never to be heard from again. Painstakingly and spectacularly remastered from two virgin copies of the original vinyl with the full participation of Brother Clark (the others are lost and presumed dead), this treasure is now rescued from the deepest catacombs of psychedelic fatso obscurity for all to hear. 180 gram vinyl, original insert reproduction, and 28 pt. craft stock with old school paste-on sleeves.

NON 029EP FRIEDMAN & JAKI LIEBEZEIT, BURNT: 5 7 EP 12″ (NON 029EP) 12.00
Restocked. Friedman & Liebezeit present two pieces in their “Secret Rhythms” project. Both tracks, one mixed and co-produced by Mark Ernestus (Rhythm & Sound) and one by Burnt Friedman, testify less to post-processing and editing techniques than to the physicality of the instruments played. The post-Can Liebezeit created his own cycle-based drum system and developed an innovative drumset. Friedman’s percussive, synthetic or acoustic sound sequences adhere to the same understanding of rhythm, allowing the two sound generators to perfectly intermesh. Cover artwork by Theo Altenberg.

NOSMOKE 008LP VA: Java-Java: Indonesia Screaming Fuzz Vol. 1 LP (NOSMOKE 008LP) 29.00
“After the real savage compilations of Cazumbi and Zulu Stomp, Nosmoke Records attacks again. Now looking back to the Indonesian legacy of garage and rock’n’roll. Those bands wrote some history by themselves during the ’60s and confronted the Indonesian regime with music. Some of these bands migrated to Europe, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong and helped out creating a new musical movement called Indo-Rock. Bands like The Peels, Swallows, Tielmann Brothers or Rolling Beats have been part of that movement. Lots of fuzz and rock’n’roll, making their own revolution trough the fuzz pedal. Among these, other bands confronted the regime inside Indonesia, like Dara Puspita or Koes, among others. Don’t look for protest ballads or even traditional songs here, there’s only room for garage, raw beat and Indo-rock at its best. Remastered sound, with many photos and liners in the back.” Artists: Dara Puspita, Koes Bersaudara, Pattie Bersaudara, The Peels, Los Indonesios, Panber’s, Females, Steps, Koes Plus, Tielman Brothers, Rolling Beats, The Swallows, Black Magic, The Peels, S.Mona Rita &The Kingstons and Benjamin S.

TEG 3312CD CARMICHAEL, GREGORY: Red Greg: The Sounds Of Gregory Carmichael 2CD (TEG 3312CD) 12.00
2007 release. “Producer, arranger, instrumentalist, and label owner Greg Carmichael ran with the prominent members of the underground disco/boogie brigade like Patrick Adams and LeRoy Burgess, but he remains one of the lesser recognized figures from the scene. Despite this, he was every bit a key behind-the-scenes member of the dance music world and deserves the recognition accorded to those he worked with. Carmichael, along with Adams, was behind Universal Robot Band, Inner Life, Phreek, and Bumblebee Unlimited. Each of these outfits delivered a handful of club classics that endure as house-DJ favorites decades after their original release (‘Dance and Shake Your Tamborine,’ ‘Barely Breaking Even,’ ‘Weekend,’ ‘Love Bug,’ ‘Moment of My Life,’ and ‘I’m Caught Up’ being amongst the most popular). A number of Bumblebee Unlimited singles were released through Carmichael’s Red Greg label, and Inner Life’s ‘I’m Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair)’ was originally issued on his TCT label before Prelude purchased the rights and catapulted it to the top of many club playlists. Carmichael also worked closely with Burgess for the Convertion (‘Let’s Do It’) and Logg (‘I Know You Will,’ ‘Dancing Into the Stars’) projects, which also yielded some cream-of-the-crop disco/boogie. The only time Carmichael truly tasted the mainstream was when Cathy Dennis’ ‘Touch Me (All Night Long),’ a cover of a Fonda Rae tune written with Adams, blitzed the pop charts in 1991. By then, he was all but completely removed from the music industry. Peter Brown and Traffic Entertainment are proud to present this rare collective of the work of Greg Carmichael and his label, Red Gregg Records.”
PAMPA (GERMANY)
PAMPA 005EP FAKE/DJ KOZE, NATHAN: Xmas Rush/Mi Cyaan Believe 12″ (PAMPA 005EP) 14.00
PAMPA 005EP features two completely different artists. Having reportedly recorded his track “Xmas Rush” in his London studio during a jam session, Nathan Fake has turned in a total brain-fuck. It’s mercilessly exaggerated, psychedelic, inexorable, and at the same time, sweet and heart-warming. Unique in its consistency, we haven’t heard anything like it since the ’90s. DJ Koze pays tribute to Michael Smith on “Mi Cyaan Believe It,” recalling the ruthlessness, rawness and revolutionary energy of Public Enemy.

PKM 001DVD KALKBRENNER, PAUL: 2010 – A Live Documentary DVD (PKM 001DVD) 19.50
Following the fictional account of the life of DJ Ikarus in the movie Berlin Calling (BPitch Control), here is an exhilarating, live glimpse into Paul Kalkbrenner’s real life as a musician. With far more than 100,000 concert-goers, the 2010 live tour by Paul Kalkbrenner was a milestone for electronic music. No other German musician within the electronic music genre had access to the big concert halls as Kalkbrenner did, playing himself into the hearts of fans everywhere. To capture the vibes of this unforgettable tour, Paul Kalkbrenner and his team decided to film more than 20 shows in high quality. The finished product is a fascinating 10-track trip through Paul Kalkbrenner’s shows all over Europe, which shows his unique status as a live electronic music artist. On the second part of the DVD, the viewer gets a glimpse into backstage and on the road scenes from this tour with lots of additional interview footage by Paul Kalkbrenner himself, his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner and various other people involved in the tour. After 140,000 sold copies (over-the-counter) of the Berlin Calling Soundtrack (BPC 185CD) and a sold-out tour with ticket sales of 65,000 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland alone, this DVD is the next big chapter within the success story of Paul Kalkbrenner, which started in the early ’90s in youth clubs in East Berlin. NTSC format, running time: 120 minutes. Aspect: 16:9 (DVD), Sound Format: Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1, DTS, English subtitles.

PERMVAC 061EP HOWARD, TEVO: What Is Noise? 12″ (PERMVAC 061EP) 12.00
Tevo Howard is currently one of the hottest names in the house circuit. Following up releases on labels like Rush Hour or his own Beautiful Granville imprint, he now delivers his Chicago house twist on Permanent Vacation. The What Is Noise? EP is his first release for the label. What initially started as a remix request led to the beauty of four originals which show the whole variety of Tevo Howard’s insight on today’s house music.
PERMVAC 071EP BLACK VAN: Moments Of Excellence 12″ (PERMVAC 071EP) 12.00
Black Van is the project of KoweSix (Moonbootica) and Kris Menace (Compuphonic). “Moments Of Excellence” boasts great disco that works like a tense thriller: it grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. Before you know it, you’re hopelessly lost. Open to dirty secrets. Hooked for a night. For a few weeks. Your whole life. There’s always a secret hidden deep in the maelstrom. The deeper the true substance is concealed, the more powerful the effect, the thicker the shackles.

Exact repro of this 1976 album from one of the great jazz-funk heroes of the 20th century. Ayers is mellowing out at this point — and that’s a good thing. The title track is a revered classic of mid-’70s optimism.

QUEEN CONSTANCE RECORDS
TEG 9914CD QUEEN CONSTANCE BAND: University Dances Of 1978 CD (TEG 9914CD) 13.00
2007 release. “Long before anybody even coined the term disco, P&P Records was filling speakers nationwide with grimy jams that kept people on the dance floors. As most know, the legendary label P&P is notorious for their disco classics, and this reissue is no exception. Queen Constance, one of many labels that reside under the P&P umbrella, released an album called University Dances of 1978 by their very own resident house band called none other the Queen Constance Band. Executive produced by music legends Peter Brown and Patrick Adams, this treasure trove of disco funk guarantee a head-nod and booty-shake on even the stiffest of folk. Comprised of twelve tracks, six vocal and six matching instrumentals, this great and rare studio group album is filled to the brim with brilliant underground dance tracks.”

RB 010EP PELON: No Stunts 12″ (RB 010EP) 12.00
Originally released on Chain Reaction in 1996, Pelon’s “No Stunts” harks back to a time when “dub techno” was still waiting to be found. With addictive, echoed synth sounds connected to a strong bass line, it is exactly that type of no-frills techno you just cannot stop listening to. Now restored and remastered, the A-side contains an edit taken from the 1998 Chain Reaction CD Various: Compiled… while the flipside holds 30 locked grooves extracted from the original recording session.
SLEEPING BAG
TEG 76530LP DINOSAUR L: 24->24 Music 2LP (TEG 76530LP) 15.00
2007 release. “Dinosaur L is an alias donned by Arthur Russell, a man whose contribution to dance music from the late seventies and through the eighties was formidable but only quietly acknowledged. His innovative and left field dance records were way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time. He was a cellist who studied classical and Indian music. As well as his great strides in dance music he was also involved in the New York downtown avant-garde music scene and produced some albums in a more avant-garde/experimental vein as well as trying his own unique approach to pop. He scored several hits on the underground New York dance scene at clubs like The Paradise Garage (Larry Levan was a huge supporter). His biggest tunes, ‘Go Bang!’ and ‘Is It All Over My Face?’ were worldwide club hits and are still played today as classics. His records have influenced the scene from his first dance record in 1979 to the present day and his work has been much sampled. Sadly Arthur died in 1992, but his music lives on and his influence is still felt on the dance music scene, his tunes still sound great and are still moving many dancers around the world, so his spirit lives on. Sleeping Bag Records and Traffic Entertainment Group is proud to present Dinosaur L’s 24->24 Music for the first time ever on double LP. Includes the original album tracklisting plus rare 12″ remixes and edits.”
SOFRITO SUPER SINGLES (UK)
SOFRSS 002EP VA: Benin City Grooves 12″ (SOFRSS 002EP) 15.00
“Two raw slabs of Afro rhythms re-edited by Frankie Francis (Sofrito) and Simbad (Raw Fusion/Brownswood). The second in the Sofrito Super Singles series uncovers dancefloor sounds from two of the musical legends of Benin City in western Nigeria. Victor Uwaifo’s early ’80s psychedelic masterpiece ‘Ohue’ is brought down to the bare bones to produce a seriously heavy dancefloor beast — loping synths, deep bass and a heavy beat combine to produce a track that takes in dubby disco and pure Nigerian sounds for an Afro club winner. Sonny Okosun’s Afrobeat classic ‘Odenigbo’ is smartened up for the dancefloor into a take-no-prisoners club workout for the Tropical DJs.”

STORY (GERMANY)
STORY 005EP UNKNOWN: Story #5 12″ (STORY 005EP) 12.00
Another anonymous high priest of the Secret New House World Order presents three deep tracks in the best Chicago tradition. “Feel About” exposes a basic jacking beat somewhere around the magical 120bpm range, an almost sedative walking bass line, swinging organ chords and vocal snippets that command your butt to shake. “Gruteaussichten” packs a harder punching groove and a slightly eerie atmosphere before a warm shower of synth chords hits the euphoria switch in your subconscious. Resistance is futile.

2010 repress, originally released 2007. Previously reissued on CD & LP by Sunbeam, now issued yet again on deluxe double-LP format as well! Vinyl mastering at Abbey Road Studios, pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl. Long established as a cult classic and collector’s grail, Fresh Maggots makes its vinyl reappearance with the duo’s full cooperation. Recorded in 1971 when they were just 19 years old, and fresh to the studio, the album is one of the best distillations of folk and psychedelia ever recorded. Issued as a double LP, with a lavish gatefold sleeve, its second disc boasts seven tracks previously unavailable on LP, including their rare non-album single and a live radio session from 1971. The package is rounded off with comprehensive sleevenotes and rare photographs, making this the most comprehensive collection of their music ever assembled on LP.
TAMLA
T 326LP WONDER, STEVIE: Innervisions LP (T 326LP) 12.00
1973’s Innervisions is Stevie Wonder’s all-time masterpiece. Tracks include “Too High,” “Golden Lady,” “Higher Ground” and “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing.” There’s nothing to say about this record except that it deserves a place in every American household and, before our society fails, we need to figure out what happened to that guy on “Living For The City.” Gatefold exact repro reissue.
TECTONIC (UK)
TEC 010CD SCIENTIST: Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space 2CD (TEC 010CD) 19.50
Tectonic’s most ambitious project to date, in which the influence of dub comes full circle, Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space sees legendary dub engineer Scientist version 12 exclusive and unreleased dubstep rhythms from the scene’s top producers, including Kode9, Shackleton, Pinch and Mala. It’s a vital and unprecedented move for dubstep; one year in the making, uniting roots and futurism in visionary style. In archetypal fashion, Scientist puts decades of tactile, hands-on experience to work, deftly transforming the killer originals — many composed specifically for this project — into living, breathing dub music with his most sacred of black arts. The effect is most radical when he reviews the ultra-modern surfaces of Guido’s “Korg Back” or Pinch and Emika’s prescient stepper “2012,” realigning the dance’s depth perception with the skill of an electro-acoustic mastermind. No less, when working with vocalists on King Midas Sound’s “U” or the dread vibes of Spaceape on Kode9’s “Abeng,” he enhances their duppy potential tenfold. Perhaps most spooky of all is his version of Shackleton’s “Hackney Marshes,” morphing the original’s nyabinghi-like percussion into a subtly spiritual and psychoactive slab of riddim minimalism. However, for many the highlights will be the dreadnaught overhauls of Mala DMZ’s bass bin punishing “City Cycle,” and Loefah & Sgt. Pokes’ “Dog Money” respectively, realizing many dub-fiend’s most feverish dreams in ultra-heavyweight fashion. Add to these the energetic Afro-house roll of Jack Sparrow, RSD’s cultured roots, ominous cone-testing from Armour (aka Roly Vex’d), Distance’s swelling atmospheres, and Cyrus (Random Trio)’s modernist update of broken-beats, and the result is a session that does as much to survey the contemporary map of bass ordinance as it does to provide a fertile source text for Scientist’s first new studio project in the thick end of ten years. Hopeton Brown aka Scientist is one of Jamaica’s most revered dub engineers. His career behind the mixing desk began in the mid ’70s at King Tubby’s Dromilly Road studios in Kingston, earning him the “Scientist” tag in a legendary conversation between Bunny Lee and King Tubby. By the early ’80s, he was working at Tuff Gong studios and it was during this period that he created his seminal series of albums for Greensleeves including Scientist Rids The World Of The Curse Of The Evil Vampires and Scientist Wins The World Cup. In the tradition of Lee “Scratch” Perry, King Tubby, and Prince Jammy, Scientist developed a distinct style, manipulating reverb, delay and filters to create transient sonic dimensions which place him as one of the most distinguished dub engineers alive today. Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space is a 24-track 2CD, containing separate discs of original cuts and Scientist versions.

TRUNK (UK)
JBH 038LP KIRCHIN, BASIL: Primitive London LP (JBH 038LP) 17.00
LP version. This is the first-ever release of not ONE but TWO classic Basil Kirchin soundtracks, one from 1965, the other 1971. It’s music for strippers, wife-swapping, death, birth, crime and chicken factories. Basil Kirchin is a legendary jazz drummer and grandfather of ambient music. He started his jazz career drumming in his father’s jazz band. In the war years, he took over the band and post-war travelled to the East, hung out with the Maharishi, found himself, moved to Australia and finally returned home to the UK in the early 1960s with jazz ideas the likes of which no one else had ever dreamt. He moved into film music composition, library music and special commissions. By the late 1960s, he was experimenting with free jazz, tape manipulations and animal recordings. His series of works entitled Worlds Within Worlds are the first examples of ambient music. Regarded as a musical genius by many of the world’s current music geniuses, Basil Kirchin’s influence and following grows and grows each day. No one knows how and why drummer and jazzman Basil Kirchin came to write his first-ever soundtrack, but the sounds he created for Primitive London and its images of abattoirs, strip joints, alcoholism, beatniks and peculiar supermarkets are second-to-none. The music is film music but with touches of jazz, drones and oddness, impressive for such an early recording. There’s even a tune surprisingly similar to Herrmann’s Taxi Driver, a score written over a decade later. Primitive London is notorious as the UK’s first and most important “Mondo” movie. The images filmed were strange, sensational, shocking and sleazy, the music harrowing, groovy and hip. This short, and until now unreleased score is accompanied on this release by a soundtrack Kirchin wrote six years later, for a very different kind of London film. Called The Freelance, this rough, tough crime flick is rarely seen, but features lively performances by classic British character actors and a young, impressive Ian McShane. Set in the criminal underworld, Kirchin brought to the screen the sounds of progressive drumming, free jazz and a touch of new decade optimism. The cues are long, develop well and are like no other. Both scores represent important times in Kirchin’s musical life; the first score pre-dates his library work, the second comes at a time when this master of modern jazz music and industrial sounds had reached a creative peak. Both scores are unmistakably Kirchin, with his instant, insistent rhythms, memorable melodies and distinctive, strange jazz sounds permeating this entire release. His ever-growing band of fans will love it all. Superb full-color sleeve taken from the original 1965 Primitive London press book.
UGLY THINGS
UT Q65 SCHEELINGS, PIM: Q65 Book (UT Q65) 17.00
“The five original members of Q65 first banded together in The Hague in the Netherlands in 1965. Joop Roelofs, Frank Nuyens, Willem Bieler, Peter Vink and Jay Baar were an unlikely, often volatile gang of outcasts and misfits, but with their raw, unconventional music and rowdy, unkempt image they quickly built up a large and fiercely loyal following. Their first record, You’re the Victor, kicked off a string of hit singles for the group including ‘The Life I Live,’ ‘From Above’ and ‘World of Birds.’ Their 1966 debut LP, Revolution, sold over 50,000 copies, topping the Dutch album charts ahead of new releases by the Rolling Stones, the Troggs and the Animals. By 1969 it had all fallen apart, but in the few short years they were together Q65 recorded some truly extraordinary music. They continue to be regarded, quite rightly, as one of the great, unsung bands of the era. Pim Scheelings has captured their story in all its strange, stoned, comical, complicated, tragic glory — the drink, the drugs, the fights and, of course, the music — all discussed and dissected in frank, often brutally honest words by the surviving band members and their collaborators. This is the story of Q65: no punches pulled — the whole truth and nothing but the truth. 208 pages with tons of rare photos, interviews and discography.”
VAKANT R (GERMANY)
VR 008EP KADEN, MATHIAS: Studio 10 Remixes #3 12″ (VR 008EP) 12.00
The third and final remix package for Mathias Kaden’s highly-acclaimed album Studio 10 (VA 004CD/VA 030LP), featuring two reworks by Onur Özer and DeWalta. Özer’s “Hâre Remix” is a massive, bass-driven rework for Kaden’s “Chazz,” taking the track to a deeper, more jazzy level. David Koch aka DeWalta takes on “Ikenga,” maintaining the acidic vibe of the original and adding his very own dancefloor funk.
WARNER BROTHERS
WB 79963LP ZZ TOP: Fandango! LP (WB 79963LP) 13.00
This 1975 release is ZZ Top’s fourth best album. One side’s recorded in the studio; one side’s live. The deeply entrancing yet violently offensive effect of their songs carry an imputed unlocking of social constraint directly into the earlobes and subconscious netherworld of its listeners, and it’s no wonder that listeners often lose themselves completely during songs like “Tush,” “Heard It On The X,” “Backdoor Love Affair No.2” and “Nasty Dogs And Funky Kings.” Perhaps the resistance that generations of our current times put up reveals their inability to even grasp, at the base level, music whose appeal should be as obvious as the basic pull of sexual or violent urges; and let there be no doubt that the unlocking of these desires are one of the last weapons the youth can wield against the increasingly boring and unsurprising social script written by the demigods of quasi-celebrity and stale culture, dispersed through every available outlet of mass & minute media, and acted out over countless dinner dates, rock concerts and club nights to the detriment of what we might call, simply, real lived experience, the present. Fucking ZZ Top. 180 gram vinyl with poster.
WATERGATE RECORDS (GERMANY)
WG 004EP VA: Peahen EP 12″ (WG 004EP) 12.00
Watergate Records presents their fourth vinyl edition, focusing on exclusive tracks from the seventh edition of the Watergate mix CD series. Brandt Brauer Frick’s exclusive track, “Melancholie II” gets the remix treatment from Lee Jones, which results in a crafty club number. MyMy’s “Mymorial” has depth provided by analog synth pads that harmonize seamlessly with a warm and luscious bass line. Acid Pauli’s “December” features a deep, low-slung kick, sparse melodies, and what sounds like field recordings. A collector’s 12″, indeed.

WH 200CD FREDDI/HENCH AND THE SOULSETTERS: Crown Princes Of Funk: The Last Set CD (WH 200CD) 17.00
“To underground DJs and other discriminating urban hipsters, Freddi/Henchi and The Soulsetters are well-known as ‘The Prophets of Funk’ responsible for their all-time classic Dance album full of infectious early 1970s monsters. In Colorado, frontmen “Freddi Love” Gowdy and ‘Henchi’ Graves earned over three decades a reputation as an indefatigable, Boulder-based musical party act popular on the state’s college circuit. But the roots of Freddi and Henchi actually stretch back to the desert city of Phoenix, Arizona, in the mid 1960s. It was there that group members first established their exciting stage presence through live shows at long-gone local night clubs. And under the guidance of producer Hadley Murrell, they created their fun-loving recording identity as the good humored Crown Princes of Funk. This historic package hopes to help make sense of the sometimes confusing Freddi/Henchi/Soulsetters back catalogue, which between 1964 and 1975 included records on multiple labels under varying names and with assorted spellings.” Gatefold mini-LP style packaging with 6-page insert. CD includes bonus video content.

sound mixtures, worked side by side for some weeks to create their first collaborative effort. SATOR
is a granitic and majestic work, a musical journey through time and history that throws the listeners
into the most remote abysses of Earth. Massive magmatic sounds mixed with the technologic and
synthetic vibrations of oscillating sinewaves & with frosty isolationist timbres programmed through
fluxes of information written in binary code… In digisleeve

BAND OF PAIN Sacred Flesh CD   12,00 eur
The soundtrack was written by Steve Pittis’ Band Of Pain, creating a very dark, brooding atmosphere to
compliment Nigel Wingrove’s film. Originally with a 16-page booklet depicting explicit scenes from the
film, pressure from the distributors forced the artwork into a revised 4-page version. Sacred Flesh is
dark journey into realms of mental anguish and repression; a very Black Ambient soundtrack. This is
Band Of Pain working in the medium to which its most suited. An incredible album with massive
demand from both film and music distributors alike. 10 year anniversary edition of 666 copies! Cold Spring

OATVARGR Black Snow Epoch CD 12,00 eur
The second unholy union of Lord Nordvargr (MZ.412, Folkstorm, Toroidh etc) and Goat (USA).
Time, pilgrimages and bloodlines have been bourn since the first testament of Goatvargr was
witnessed in this era of false knowledge. The first covenant of Goatvargr was baleful, lycanthropic
and lethiferous. A rejection of the techgnostic kingdom and circuitry idols which seduce our era.
The downfall of light has brought a world of coldness. This Black Snow Epoch is a time to honour
our forbearers such as MZ.412 and the elements of flesh, wood and alchemical steel. Industrial
loops and analogue keyboards merge with sheet metal and chains to create a solemn winter
hymn where the cold steel stings your flesh. The wolf instinctively hunts through the frost, and
the goat is blamed for human transgressions, yet during the Black Snow Epoch, the true hunters will pursue.

GOLDENROD (Streicher/Macronympha) Fuck You All CD  10,00 eur
INDUSTRIAL RECOLLECTIONS. Goldenrod, obscure collaboration campaign of Streicher, where
each release was contributed with source sounds of some international noise artists. In 1996 3
different C-60 tapes was released, but when Zero Cabal label quit their activities, material barely
reached listeners. Now Industrial Recollections is proud to present these utmost crude and nasty
assaults of analogue destruction, filthy rumbles, broken electronics, physical wreckage… Black &
White covers faithful to original design and sound that has not been cut/edited, only transferred
from tape to digital medium with best possible means.

ILLUION OF SAFETY In Session CD  12,00 eur
These days, since many years actually, Illusion Of Safety is reduced one person, following a
free floating membership that included Thyme Jones and Jim O’Rourke to mention just two, which is Dan
Burke. He plays ‘sound generating devices and random objects that deliberately provoke, mesmerize
and even affront listeners’. I deliberately use the term ‘post industrial’ and not say ‘electro-acoustic’ or
‘musique concrete’, which could also easily be applied to the music of Illusion Of Safety. When they started
they were firmly rooted in the world of industrial music, and later on elements of musique concrete came
along, but if you listen to ‘In Session’ the elements of industrial music are still there. Heavy, steel walls
of drone music pierce your ears and are as easily replaced by soft drones, crackling sounds of hand
held objects and contact microphones. Ranging from sheer noise to near silence and there is always
an element of surprise lurking around the corner. An abrupt, full stop or start and it
bring the piece in a new territory. Very fine concentrated bursts of sound. (FdW)  CD packaged in stamped,
triple-folded, cardboard cover. Limited to 500 copies.

K11 The Sacred Wood CD  12,00 eur
K11 (aka Pietro Riparbelli) can be compared and in our opinion is the new Bad Sector.
Sound sources and intents are different but the end results are ending in a very similar sound layer.
The sound soursces for this album was recorded at the enchanting park of Monsters of Bomarzo.
The park of Monsters of Bomarzo was devised by the architect Pirro Ligorio (he completed the
Cathedral of Saint Peter in Rome after the death of Michelangelo and built Villa d’Este in Tivoli) on
commission of Prince Pier Francesco Orsini, called Vicino, only to vent the heart broken at the death
of is wife Giulia Farnese. The park was born in 1552 as “Villa of Wonders” to be the only one of it’s
kind in the world. Incredible but true, the Park of Monsters remained in complete oblivion till 1954
and only few people was aware about all the fantastic treasures contained within the park for over
400 years !K11 was recording the soul of this park of Monsters and Wonders and after re-working
the sounds he delivers us a trip between reality and dream.Psychadelic, ritual ambient music from
an other space, from an other era, from an other land…

M.B. [Maurizio Bianchi] / PETER ANDERSSON – HENRIK NORDVARGR BJÖRKK – ERIK JARL
S.F.A.G. / S.F.A.G. De-Composed 2xCD     17,00 EUR
ANTE-FACTS : after the disintegrative period of my production (from “Symphony for a Genocide” to “Das Testament”),
the purchase of a misanthropic echo-machine and the consequent decay of the electric-analogue machinery,
my efforts was redirected to a pre-recording sound sublimation, so I started to re-compose the electronic
metastasis of early times, filtering through dehumanizing effects of the echo-machine, keeping attention
particularly to the explanatory process of my ancestral subjectivism. FACTS :
the modulatory shaking of S.F.A.G is the
oxygenating prelude to the irradiating bionic music later developed through levigating works such as “Endometrio”
and “Carcinosi” and represents a milestone in my pre-apocalyptic production which later will culminate into
the horrid of “Armaghedon”. The exegesis of this work reflects a strong attachment to smooth and round
effects of the roughness of the frantic early days, but with a constant preference for the symbiosis between
well preordered sound masses and not well defined radio broadcasts, like nebulae drifting in a space in trembling
condensation.POST-FACTS: The interest of Gary Mundy of the British “Broken Flag” label (who later would have
released the esoteric “The Plain Truth”) gave me the incentive to make him listen to the demo tape which
was of his liking sothat in January 1983 he decided to publish the album as a tape with the title “SFAG 1981”
(the year relates to the link with the date of the beginning of my vinyl production). In the early 90’s
Tegal Records was releasing a non-authorised “truncated” version on CD, but this new version of OEC
maintains the integrity of the entire work and was completely digitally remastered by Peter Andersson (Raison D’être)
[Maurizio Bianchi] The Original album is accompanied by a second CD with 3 de-compositions using extracts of the
original S.F.A.G. recordings done by 3 well knows Nordic industrial artists : Peter Andersson (Raison D’Être)
Henrik Nordvargr Björkk (MZ.412) Erik Jarl (IRM) The whole is coming in a nice vintage packaging reminding
to the first Industrial/Vinyl era : Gatefold cover as the old vinyl covers but CD sized and vinyl-look CD’s.

MACHINEFABRIEK Vloed CD  13,00 eur
‘Vloed’ is a collection of (slightly edited) live performances, recorded between 2006 and 2008 in Amsterdam
and Den Haag. “All performances find Machinefabriek in fine form, offering up thick billows of warm guitar
shimmer, fluttery staticky ambience, and at one point some uncharacteristically heavy super distorted
metallic guitar, but here, it’s not so much metal as simply a mighty drone, thick and throbbing and super
intense. There are long stretches of near silence and super minimal high end drone, glimmering slow
building crescendos, squalls of distorted choral buzz, warm whirring metallic reverberations, shimmery
and dense black dronemusik, all the stuff we love about Machinefabriek” (Aquarius). Beautifully
remastered with a 20-minute bonus track, ‘Vloed’ captures the immersive live experience of a
Machinefabriek concert. Presented in a stunning matt digipak with modified artwork. Cold Spring

MERZBOW/Z´EV Spiral Right Spiral Left CD 13,00 eur
In the planning (and many faxes, emails and discussions in person) for 20 years, finally this stunning
collaborative release for Cold Spring from Japanese Noise king Merzbow and legendary elemental sound
artist Z’EV is here. The tracks were created in London and Tokyo, with each artist remixing the other’s
original sounds. Two tracks weighing in at 22 minutes apiece! Dark Ambient Noise in a special textured
card digisleeve. Cold Spring

MERZBOW Marmo CD 12,00 eur
After two vinyl releases finally a digital album by the master of Japan-Noise on OEC.
This album is entitled “Marmo” (Marble for Italian) and is devoted to the Italian and particularly the Venetian marble.
Masami was visiting and playing in this magic Italian city several times and was impressed by all the marbles used
in the Venetian buildings and paintings … The 3 tracks composing this album are entitled “Merzbotanica-parallela”,
“Botanica parallela” is a book written by the Italian author Leo Lionni who is also the inventor of such botanic science,
a parallel iper-real botanic where imagination is more reliable than reality …. A real psychadelic tribute by the
Japanese master of noise to Venice and Italy ….Enter this new “Merzcolored-Merzbotanic-Merzpsychomuzak” full of
scratching rythms and psychoactive noises and let your brain explode. Special folding cover with Venetian marbled
paper effect and golden letterings.

MZ 412 In Nomine Dei Satanas… CD  13,00 eur
First of 5 albums in the MZ. 412 reissue series, with a new album planned for next year. 1995 bore witness
to the resurrection of nefarious Swedish horde MZ. 412 (previously manifest as Maschinenzimmer 412) –
Nordvargr, Drakh, Ulvtharm and Shaitan. This ground-breaking, genre-defining album saw the inventors of
“Black Industrial” blur the boundaries between Black Metal, Ritual Industrial, Dark Ambient and Power Noise.
“In Nomine…” captures the darkest sides of Satanism, death and ritual sacrifice. An enduring, blasphemous
statement of True Swedish Black Industrial. This remastered version features two previously unreleased
tracks, alternate versions and all new artwork. Housed in a matt digipak with spot varnishing. Cold Spring

MZ 412 Burning The Temple Of God CD 13,00 eur
This is the ultimate statement in Swedish Black Industrial, summoning forth the act’s controversial
black metal side and recalling the Norwegian church burnings of the early 90s. Nightmare inducing
ritual old school industrial, alongside raw black metal, this album has been hailed as one of the
greatest albums in the genre by noise and black metal fans alike! It could actually be considered the
first real crossover album between the genres. Remastered and extended version of the 1996 album
with bonus tracks and alternate takes culled from the original masters. Housed in a matt laminate
digipak with spot varnishing. Cold Spring

OLHON Underwater Passage CD  12,00 eur
Field-recordings maestros OLHON are back with a new stunning album. “Underwater passage” is
based upon underwater recordings taken in 2006 by Zairo (WHERE), then treated by Massimo
Magrini (of BAD SECTOR fame). These recordings were taken using special sensing microphones
attached to an abandoned telephone cable running on the sea bottom at -40 m.; they were then
processed with particular demodulating treatments, resulting in a complex and rich ambiental
monument. Strange clicks, impulses, a load of movements. Definitely far from the usual concept
of dark ambient = low-rumbling drones only, “Underwater passage” shimmers with cutting mid/high
frequencies bursts. A very challenging listening. Uv-vernished digipack.

OLHO Sinkhole CD  12,00 eur
Acooperative effort of Massimo Magrini (mastermind of the genious BAD SECTOR) and Zairo
(of the ultra-obscure dark ambient travellers WHERE). “Sinkhole” was composed using original
field recordings taken (mainly underwater) in the “Pozzo del Merro”, the world’s deepest
sinkhole. The result is an extremely organic, almost “breathing” dark ambient journey.
Very challenging, that’s for sure….. Nobody knows what lies in the abyss. Just sit down and
listen to the sound of the earth’s depths.

PINK INDUSTRY Low Technology CD 12,00 eur
Pink Industrys “Low Technology” is just out as second release at the german label
Isegrimm Records, which brought you the industrial legend Gerechtigkeits Liga back, exactly 3 years
ago.Isegrimm is very proud to bring this classic electropop band from Liverpol which its first album
“Low Technology” back in the minds and markets in a very nice slightly redisgned six sided digipack.
The first 12″ and some unreleased tracks are included on the almost 63 min running cd.Pink Industry
was formed in Liverpool from Jayne Casey(former Big in Japan and Pink Military) and Ambrose
Reynolds(from Franky goes to Hollywood also worked with Royal Family &The Poor )and released
the first 12″ 45 and the first album Low Technology back in 1982.All in all 20 tracks with the lovely,
hypnotic voice of Jayne and some totally unreleased tracks will bring you back that good old feeling,
where vinyl was god. Isegrim

RAPOON Dream Circle CD  13,00 eur
Re-release of classic first album from 1992.Originally released by Toronto´s Death of Vinyl, a label
which ironically expired shortly thereafter, it resurfaced in 2003 on CDR by another short-lived Canadian
enterprise, but is now far more accessible in the usual immaculate Ewers Tonkunst packaging, a slightly
oversize, quality stock slipcover featuring gold print embossed on a black background. To celebrate the event, there
is even a limited, wooden boxed edition of fifty. (In order to further complicate matters, none of
these editions should be confused with “Recurring [Dream Circle]”, issued in 1996 by Soleilmoon,
which boasts an almost identical cover and three tracks remixed from the original.) With its
postmodern tribalism, its incessant chanting and dampened percussion and air of dense,
subcontinental humidity, Dream Circle not only helped establish Robin Storey´s post-Zoviet
France solo reputation, but inspired an entire generation of electronic artists fascinated by
ritualistic and hypnotic repetition. Many are the fellow musicians who marvel at the looping skills
of Storey. For many listeners, it was a kind of audio “Mondo Cane”, a glimpse of the unheard and
somewhat sinister.

STEVEN SEVERIN Blood Of A Poet CD  12,00 eur
Acclaimed solo artist and founding member of the legendary Siouxsie and the Banshees, Steven
Severin’s debut album for Cold Spring Records is titled “Blood Of A Poet (Le Sang d’un Poete).
This album is his entire soundtrack to Jean Cocteau’s 1930 black & white surrealist classic and is
the second in his ongoing series of “Music For Silents”.During their reign, Siouxsie & the Banshees
established themselves as one of the foremost alternative artists and the only survivors of the
London punk scene to evolve, innovate and succeed until their final demise in 2002. Severin has
since committed himself almost exclusively to scoring for film & TV.Since May 2008 Severin has
been performing live accompaniment to silent films, startling audiences across the globe who have
now come to expect the unexpected from the man who has crossed paths with such diverse
luminaries as John Cale, Alan Moore, Jarboe, Lydia Lunch, Marc Almond, Merc Cunningham,
Robert Smith and the Tiger Lillies. “Blood Of A Poet” received it’s premiere at the Silent Movie
Theater in Hollywood in January this year and this October sees Severin embark on his first ever
solo tour of the UK hosted by the Picturehouse chain of cinemas. Digisleeve.

SLEEP CHAMBER Satanic Sanction CD  13,00 eur
The only early album in this American cult group’s discography that hasn’t been made
available on CD yet. “Satanic Sanction” is one of the darkest, most ritualistic works ever
to be recorded by the band, and has for this edition been enlarged by John Zewizz including
tracks from the same recording session that didn’t make it onto the original vinyl. Featuring
the grand voice of Jonathan Briley this is *the* classic SC line-up that recorded landmark
albums like “Sexmagick Ritual” or “Spellbondage”. No techno beats, no guitar riffs, this is SC
at its most occult and ritualistic.

THE HUMAN VOICE Exit Lines CD 12,00 eur
NORTHAUNT mastermind Harleif Langas gives voice to a less dark and oppressive journey

with “Exit lines”, and explores the thin boundary between ambient (not necessarily dark….)
music and spacious post-rock. Deep drones and sparse melodic guitar lines, “skeletal”
structures and subtle noises. Appealing to both the Constellation-freaks and the courageous
(and open minded) dark ambient travellers. Digisleeve.

TROUM Mare Idiophonika CD 13,00 eur
The first part of the ‘Power Romantic’ series, this is the studio-version of Troum’s
live-programme from 2007, performed in several European cities, together with with NADJA,
ASIA NOVA and VOICE OF EYE. A new ending has been added later. Limited to 500 copies.

UMPIO Muelas CD 10,00 eur

Finnish harsh noise at finest! Umpio has slowly but steadily reached the top level of
harsh noise. Scrap metal, self build metal junk instruments, feedback, intense cut-ups.
Think of Knurl, Sickness, K2 etc with addtional P.Dassum physical craftmanship and you may
get close to Umpio. 40 minutes.

— ANNA LOGUE RECORDS –Three new releases —

2010 was another successful year for Anna Logue Records, but also a very very busy one, so that we could not even manage to send out a newsletter when ANNA 032 was released early September …, sorry for that! Anyway, we had planned to offer three more releases in 2010, but time was against us, so this newsletter can only give you a short preview of what is to come early 2011:

ANNA 028/MNQ 010 CHROMAGAIN Any Colour We Liked (1982-1985) LP+7”/CD

The first one is the highly anticipated release in co-operation with the wonderful Mannequin label from Rome, Italy. Top-notch Minimal Electro Wave from CHROMAGAIN, hailing from Torino, Italy. Includes their ultra rare and sought-after MLP “Any Colour You Like” from 1985, the song “Ethnicbox” from the “Tracce” LP compilation plus four additional unreleased earlier tracks on the LP+7” vinyl version, and a total of nine additional tracks on the CD version!!! And all those tracks are nothing but amazing, with a more raw edge (wonderful Roland TR-808 drum machine action!) and also showing their (post-)electro-punk roots on their earliest tracks! Surely a true classic and not be missed!

ANNA 029/MNQ011 INTELLIGENCE DEPT. Sleeping City (1984/85) CD

The second release is another co-operation with the Mannequin label from Rome, Italy. Again, top-notch Minimal Electro Wave from INTELLIGENCE DEPT., hailing from Ferrara, Italy. Includes both their complete and impossible-to-get demo cassettes “Sleeping City” (1984) and “The Big Trouble” (1985), thus also including their well-known beautiful tracks “Sleeping City”, “Anger Inside”, “Too Late To Love” which were also featured on the 1984 LP compilation “A White Chance”, and “Loneliness” from Mannequin’s “Danza Meccanica – Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987” LP/CD compilation, as well as a cover version of “Sister Europe”, originally by The Psychedelic Furs. Additionally, the CD includes four live tracks, “Sleeping City” and “Too Late To Love”, as well as the two previously totally unknown tracks “Nice Faces” and “Black Wi dow”, recorded live at the Arena Nuovo in Ferrara in 1985, so a total of 13 amazing tracks, beautifully presented in a six-panel digipak.

ANNA 030 PAUL CHAMBERS Stations/Absorptions (1978-1983) LP+CD set

The third release will be a comprehensive LP+CD set by PAUL CHAMBERS hailing from the UK and being known for his contribution of the two stunning tracks “Steering Solo” and “Take A Ticket” to the “The Apprentices Dance” LP compilation from 1981. PAUL CHAMBERS was quite a pioneer of dark minimal electronic music, starting to record already in 1978! He used a Boss DR-55, Roland SH-1, Korg MS-20 and EDP Wasp, just to name a few and nothing but pure analogue synthesizer bliss! The LP “Stations” comprises 12 tracks including the majority of his rare vocal tracks (thus also including “Steering Solo” and “Take A Ticket”), recorded between 1979 and 1983, which mark milestones of the Minimal Electro Wave genre. The CD “Absorptions” comprises instrumental tracks recorded between 1978 and 1981, which can easily be lined up with the recordings by Chris Carter/Throbbing Gristle from around that time! Fi nding Paul and unleashing his archives was truly a revelation, so that a total of 27 raw minimal electronic wave tracks from the very early days are now finally seeing the light of day after 30 years time!

— TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN (and shouldn’t it be every human being?!) —

Some of you may already know that my partner and I have been getting involved with the protection of animals since many years and that all the (little) money that has been, is and will be earned from my work with Anna Logue Records is used for paying veterinary bills and dog food. I would like to take the opportunity to underline the strong bond between Anna Logue Records and the Hundegnadenhof Zemitz e.V. (Pet Sanctuary for Senior Dogs) which was officially founded in July 2009. There we take care of a total of 15 dogs (which are either stray dogs, old, unwanted or disabled) and four small rabbits at present time. Please take a look and read at:

http://www.hundegnadenhof-zemitz.de

(You may find an English language button there, but be warned that the translation is sometimes rather funny than correct, yet transporting the message, I hope.)

The work is very time-consuming and cost-intensive, of course. Please forgive me to take this opportunity to here and now ask you for your support. Some may not be interested in this, but others may be and we are sure that there are people out there who want to support animal protection projects but cannot take care of a poor dog or other pets themselves due to life or work situations, so surely some people may support associations who can in one way or another. We, the Hundegnadenhof Zemitz e.V. and many others are in need of your support, may it be physical donations (dog food, leashes, collars, bowls, kennels, veterinary medicine, blankets, mattresses, etc.), or monetary donations, of course. If you feel like wanting to support us, please direct a payment to:

Thank you for reading this and considering supporting us and all those abused, mistreated, exploited, tortured fellow creatures.

— OUTLOOK —

As always, we are already working energetically on many more releases, amongst them new releases by contemporary acts DELAYSCAPE, EPIC DREAMS, SLEEP MUSEUM and THE SILICON SCIENTIST, and, of course, a lot of amazing original stuff from the early 80’s. As a small hint, after such difficult findings like Poeme Electronique and especially Transparent Illusion, the Anna Logue Records team did crack not only one of the last very-hard-to-crack nuts! In other words, 2011 will be so amazing!

Last but not least, and as always, I wouldn’t want to let the year pass by without expressing my sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported Anna Logue Records in 2010! There is a load of loyal customers (you know who you are) and always some new fellas joining Anna’s world. A huge thank you is due to all participating bands and artists, and the people working on the releases. Again, there was so much enthusiasm, understanding and patience, thus, as always a pleasure knowing you and working with you!

Hope you’ll enjoy some lovely days around the Christmas holidays with the people, music and pets you love.

Best wishes,

Marc
